Suikoden 2: Second Life   Fireproof
Intro:
Suikoden 2, much like Suikoden 1, is also a role playing game but this time you assume the role of an orphan boy who was adopted by an old man. The old man trained the young boy until he passed away due to his old age. You assume the role of the young boy who is in the Unicorn Youth Brigade. Some things happen and, similar to Suikoden 1, you find your own destiny. The game is very similar to Suikoden 1 but with cleaner graphics, cinema, new music and a whole new story! Interested? You should be! Check out the opening here!
Overall: 10
This game is even better than it's 1st release! This game offers everything the first in it's series had and so much more. These 2 games would be the perfect example at what technology should be doing for a game in 3 years 1996-1999. This game's music is very energizing, the story is perfect, graphics don't give you seizures and very enjoyable. Almost nothing is too repetitive! You will not be disappointed in this game either. Very well constructed, very well thought out, very well organized and very fun.
Graphics: 9
It's safe to say that these graphics were great for Playstation at the time. 1999 was a good year for graphics of all consoles and really brought out the true talents of systems like Playstation and N64. Suikoden 2 brought out some great cinema, as you could see in the link I provided in my intro, and some great detail in the game. The graphics aren't eye-popping but they really work for this game. Being a 1999 release they really brought out the best in the game. Even the runes are cinematic and represent the true power behind their use. Amazingly entertaining to say the least.
Sound: 10
The overall music of the game is pretty epic. There are a few select songs that are perfect for the role they are meant to play for. The music isn't too repetitive and it doesn't give you headaches. This is much better quality than Suikoden 1. Each song represents each situation very well and combined with the gameplay really works.
Addictiveness: 10
Still a very unique game and very addictive one too. There are alot of new features in this game that weren't apart of the first and each enhancing each aspect so much more. If it's not the graphics and music that keep bringing you back, it has to be the war, the story or your pure entertainment from this game. There are many secrets in this game that keep you coming back and playing more!
Story: 10
Very well defined story with many twists, many turns and very entertaining. The story keeps you coming back and playing more and more! Each character brings out their own piece of the grand scheme of things, some of which you can actually get involved with. You'll have to play the game to find out what the side stories are. This game also offers choices, some of which alter the end result of the game. Very well written and it's a really great plot behind this master piece. One of the things I also enjoy about this game is that the creators had added a bit more humor into the mix.
Depth: 8
This expansion of the first Suikoden brings out many more features and plenty more to do. There's also alot more strategy brought into this game compared to it's previous game. Almost every feature triumphs over Suikoden 1 because it just works so well together. One of the things that remain the same is still having up to 108 playable characters. The game does require alot more time to complete than the first. The previous game only took up to 8 hours to rush through where this game can be completed in 12 hours. To fully complete everything, it may take you up to 20 hours or more and with having so much to explore you might just take your time! There's plenty to do in this game and several secrets to discover. It's no surprise to me that Konami would make it so appealing.
Difficulty: 7
Suikoden 2 is not a very difficult game but it does have moments when you can find yourself losing a good battle. All the controls work flawlessly. All in all in boils down to searching for everything and everyone and how you go about doing that which is the most difficult aspect. There is alot to do in this game and finding everything will require a large chunk of time. It's pretty cool having so much to do in such an old game! I rated this at a 7 because I don't like a game that is too hard or difficult or too long. 7 is my way of saying this requires just enough attention to keep you coming back for more and still maintain the enjoyment of such a well thought out game.
Conclusion:
With a whole cast of characters, a brilliant story, great graphics for the game that it is and every component brought to the table in this RPG brought to you by Konami, you'll really get into this game. Don't take my word for it, instead, grab the game, sit down and try it out for yourself. It left me speechless when I first picked up the controller on my console. Even today I still have this game locked away safe! Also, the value of Suikoden 2 is very high and very hard to find. Not a game you want to pass up! Enjoy.

The Sequel to a great tale   Lycan212
Ah Suikoden 2, quite a rare genre this game belongs to, this rare gem belongs with such other great games, that may be better than it's original predecessor. Which is truly rare indeed. This game truly brings back some amazing memories, if you want a solid complete game, look no further than this little gem. I am glad to have played this classic since it really made its mark, and contribution to the history of gaming.
Premise: The protagonist (the hero) of Suikoden 2 who is originally nameless, the player decides on the individuals name. (I really don't know sadly if there is an official name for the hero). But the hero of this story goes from a member of the youth brigade in the Highland Kingdom, to eventually being the leader of the rebel group. Which is called the New Alliance Army. The hero later on receives half of the rune of beginning. The hero eventually becomes the leader of the Jowston Army, who eventually comes in conflict with the owner of the other half of his rune, who by chance happens to be his best friend at the beginning of the game, Jowy Atreides. The main villain for most of the game is a person named Luca Blight, who is heir to the throne of Highland.
Graphics:10/10 I gave this game in the area of graphics a ten out of ten, I know in this day and age, the graphics may not look top notch, but given the time period this game was introduced at, these were some of the top of the line graphics. SO I decided to grade this game as it were, not how it should be now. Especially to give this amazing game, anything less than a deserving ten is ludicrous. But if you are around the age of 25, I would seriously suggest this game to you, as you grew up within the Super Nintendo era, and such. But do not get me wrong, young or old would love the vibrant colors, and color scheme of this beautifully crafted game.
Sound:10/10 I gave this game in the area of sound a ten out of ten. This game had some of the most amazing music in the history of gaming. I remember just re going into towns and fields just to hear specific pieces, this sounds track was seriously beautifully orchestrated. If you are a fan of gaming music, I would definitely suggest this game to you. You would instantly fall in love with this games soundtrack. This is in the leagues of Zelda, and for eerie Silent Hill. The music in this game is just one piece of the beautifully crafted game of what is know legendarily known as Suikoden 2.
Addictive:10/10 I gave this game in the area of addictive play, a ten out of ten. this game has brought some of the happiest memories I have while gaming. Some of the bosses are insanely hard, especially if you have not been focusing on strategy and such. There is countless re play ability to this amazing game, also you have to recruit 108 people, so that right there can take some time, you can easily blow weeks on this masterpiece of a game. Between trying for the best gear, and best team, and collecting everything within this game that you can possibly collect, you can play hours, and not even notice it, I know I did. If your a fan of completeness than I would definitely suggest this game to you. I promise you can't go wrong with  this game. This game brings back so many memories, I laughed, I cried, I got insanely mad at some of the ridiculously hard bosses that I the the controller a few times. But all in all if you want a wonderfully crafted game in all areas, that will keep you submerged with things to do, and good game play this game is right for you then if you want my opinion.
Story:10/10 I gave this game in the area of story, a ten out of ten. This game has one of if not the best story I have ever witnessed with in a video game. Each character has an amazing development, you can really feel for every single one of the protagonists, and really feel for the antagonists as well. The story really makes you think about a lot of stuff. And you can very easily submerse yourself with in the story that is called Suikoden 2. So if you are a fan of a game that has an amazing, story, and back story I would seriously suggest this game to you, if you wanted my opinion, I guarantee you will not go wrong if you decide on wanting to play this game, young or old.
Depth:10/10 I gave this game in the area of depth, a ten out of ten, this game is really deep, so I would not suggest it to really young audiences, I mean you could play it with young children, but I would suggest this game to at least age 11 or 12, but young or old the depth in this game is amazing. This is one of the best told stories I have ever witnessed in any game I have ever played. So if you are a fan of a story that can really tell you the depths of characters, and want to be amazed at how much you can feel for a character, I would the suggest this game to you.
Difficulty: 8/10, I gave this game in the area of difficulty an eight out of ten. Now don't get me wrong some of the bosses in this game are some of the hardest I ever went against. But those are only a few bosses, this has more of a shifting difficulty, where in some areas are harder than other areas, but if you want my opinion, the difficulty is at around an 8 for consistent purposes.
Controls: 10/10, I gave this game in the area of controls a ten out of ten, this is not a part of the review, but I thought it would be important to add this, if you want a solid role playing game, this plays well, with normal role playing controls, with a bit of a twist than look no further than this wonderful game.
In Conclusion:  This game is rare indeed one of the few that maybe better than the original game, if you want a good solid, and beautifully crafted game, that you can tell the creators took their time on, then look no further than this game. This game will bring you wonderful memories, that you will cherish for a lifetime, and have you telling your friends to try this amazing game out.

The Beginning for the Love of all RPGs.   Serf
Suikoden 2 was my first RPG game that I played as a team based attack. When I first played this game back in the day, I could not get off of the game. I was absolutely addicted to the point that homework was no longer a responsibility. I was introduced to the world of RPGs and have been hooked since.
The difficulty of the game is not as bad. Completing missions and moving on with the story line is pretty simple. You have to ensure that your answers will give you the results that you wish to have. The only difficult part of the game is recruiting all102 stars to ensure the "Perfect Ending" story.
The depth of the game is a definite 10. As you go through the game, there will be moralistic questions that will test your conscience. Back as a sixth grader, I have always wondered how I would answer these questions as an adult. Currently, as an adult, I am not sure if I can. :)
The story is wonderful! A huge chunk of the story line is yours to command. There are a few trick questions that may shortcut an ending, but not as bad as Suikoden 5. Your answer as the main character will decide the outcome of much of the stories. Your answers will also determine whether you will be able to attain the "Perfect Ending" story. The gut wrenching plot twists and moves needed to be made will put you at the edge of your seat.
As I have mentioned earlier, this game has gotten me in a bevy of trouble. I enjoy story lines so much that I would run straight to my room to pick up where I left off. Sorry middle school teachers! ^_^ Being grounded while having this game was the worst. Of course, I would always play regardless of punishment. How was mom and dad to know?
The original soundtrack of this game is beautiful. Their choice in music and sound effects worked perfectly. They're opening number is phenomenal. I have never seen such beautiful culmination of video game graphics, sound and story line.
The graphics of the game were amazing. Colors and design were vibrant and eye catching. I have never really liked the mixture of red and orange, but every time I see a leader, in this game specifically, the colors red and orange make sense. It is interesting to see the color blue as a negative connotation.
Overall, this game is an amazing time. The sad part is that I never got to finish the game personally. I have seen how it ends, but never was the reason for it. For a long time, I have been searching for a way to play this game and I may have found my method. This would be a game that I would be binge playing for an entire summer, before college starts again. I highly recommend this game to anyone whom is interested in RPG games. I'm not much of a Final Fantasy, because I believe all games should emulate this game style. (At least that what I used to think. Games would be boring if they were all the same. If y'all want to play, play this!

I'm having a hard time with controls. They seem to have a mind of it's own. I can't press the buttons I need to and when I do, its as if holding down the buttons so the character becomes out of my control. Is this only happening to my by chance?
Serf 07-25-16 - 12:55 PM
I have been looking for this forever! My childhood will be complete! Oh my gosh! Let's do this!
