Great Basketball Game
For a while, I had not been a big fan of basketball games. I don't really know why that has been, but I can only assume that it's because of the games control mechanisms. Every time I played a basketball game, I never could get the feel for the controls and because of this, I always ended up losing my games by scores of 50 to 10 and 70 to 20.
There was one game I really liked, one of the Inside games because I really liked it's features, but I ended up quitting after realizing that I could never win a game. Then I played 2K11 and I began to get better each year. Now, 2K14 was the 1st basketball game that I bought on my own and I really enjoy it. I feel that the controls are much more manageable now in my opinion and that the series has improved greatly over the last few years.
We are going to change things up and talk about the sound first because this is an interesting topic when you are talking about a sports game. For Instance, did you know that LeBron James handpicked the soundtrack for the game. Because of this, most of the songs had been recently released, opposed to older songs that previous 2K games went with.
The soundtrack for this game consisted of 20 songs which included quite a few hit songs such as Not Afraid by Eminem, Radioactive by Imagine Dragons, and Elevator by The Black Keys. I do like some of these songs and I think they did a great job with the commentary as well so I will give this aspect an 8 out of 10.
Now we are going to move onto the graphics of the game, and there isn't really much to say since this is a sports game. All I can say is that the graphics look amazing foe a sports game. The players look much more realistic now then they did a few years ago, and the graphics don't really "break"as you move, everything flows nicely. For graphics, I give this game a 9 out of 10.
On to addictiveness. The game is top notch when it comes to features because of all the new modes and such added for this years installment. In addition to what you would normally find from a basketball game, a mode called LeBron: Path to Greatness has been added. This mode allows you to control LeBron during his battle to win Championships. The biggest addition to this game is the addition of Euroleague teams. Just these two factors should keep you glued to your screen for quite some time because both of them are very detailed and innovative ways to make their games more enjoyable. For this aspect of the game, I give them a 10.
Normally, basketball games do not have some sort of a major story, and if they do, it is just found in a certain franchise. For this game, I would say the the new LeBron game mode counts as a story as you attempt to basically guide his career. This is really the only story that the game has but it is worthwhile and deserves an 8 out of 10.
When it comes to depth, you can never argue that sports games are not deep because that is an argument that you will not win. Sports games are deep, and especially this one now that there are Euroleague teams included in the game. Even after you include all new teams, the game will only get deeper once you add in the new LeBron game mode and other minor changes. I feel both additions are big enough to male sure that this factor maintains a perfect score.
Lastly, we need to talk about the difficulty of the game. Like I mentioned earlier, the game was tough for me to get used to, buy it's still an easy game to play overall, especially of you have played other basketball games before. If I never had a chance to get uses to the game, I probably would have rated it as a 9 or a 10 for difficulty, buy I won't, I am giving it a 5.
That about sums everything up about this game. If you are already a huge basketball game fan, I know that you are going to get it because you love it so much. Even if you are not that big a fan of the games, I still suggest getting the game because it will be a new and fun experience for you. My overall grade for this game is 9.
