Retro City Rampage Review by: Mason97 - 7.5/10
Classic Grand Theft Auto ActionIntroduction:
This game is basically a classic arcade styled grand theft auto which is u
updated frequently, the game offers hours of fun, missions to do, guns to shoot, and a range of?vehicles?to explore the city in.
Graphics:
Not a lot can be said about the graphics but they are pretty amazing for a Arcade game, as it has a new look to the retro kind of style, Yes the graphics do still fit into a retro/arcade genre but are really u
updated from when the game was first ever released to make it fit the era of the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and even the PC. The graphics defiantly don't ruin the game as they look rather nice and if your looking for a bit of?nostalgia for these retro graphics this game may be for you.
Sound:
The sound of the game is also fantastic, with classic sounding retro music and the sound effects of the guns and cars, again the sound has defiantly improved from when the game was first released but the sound of this game can defiantly make it more enjoyable for you If you like the sound of 80's/90's Retro music.
Addictiveness:?
Though this game offers hours of fun and a open world area the game can become bland after awhile, when playing through the story mode the game can be extremely fun but once it's finished there really isn't that much to do, Yes you may be able to free roam but there isn't really much to do when free roaming, it's pretty similar to Grand Theft Auto III once you finish the main storyline the only thing left to offer is finding collectibles or going on a extremely big crime spree which of course will also get boring. So this may be one of the downsides from purchasing this game, nothing to do when you have fought through the story mode area.
Story: *May Contain Spoilers*
You take the role of "player" a hired thug in the city of Theftropolis who decides to work for a huge crime syndicate, led by jester, as the player you must travel back in time with "Doc Choc" (Back to the future reference) after a failed back heist, you must work with "Doc Choc" to get all the pieces to repair the time booth whilst avoiding Jester and the Local Law enforcement. The story however is a quite enjoyable one as you'll see the game parody of many old retro classic games, and even films such as 'Back to the future' as Doc Choc is completely based of him and you'll character seems to be a "criminal version" of Marty McFly from 'Back to the Future' However, it only receives an '8' as the story introduction of your criminal life is very short like if the creators just wanted to throw you out of the syndicate straight away instead of getting to know the characters more before the game advances into it's next parody section. *The Introduction Missions is widely compared to the first level of Grand Theft Auto III as they both have failed bank heists at the start of the game*
Depth:
Story wise, the game has quite a lot to offer, free roam mode, not so much as the game will only offer you to go on a crime spree, finding collectibles or well, just walking round doing nothing. So if your looking to buy this game to explore the open world city of Theftropolis then buy it for that reason but you may get abit bored sooner or later, But if you only intend to buy this game for a story this game is a must have, but what is the downside of the story? Well I'll cover that up next.
Difficulty:
Despite it being a fun story the game seems to be pretty easy to beat which may be a big reason the game lacked substance on some areas, so if you really don't mind playing the game despite it being so easy you could finish it pretty fast then purchase this game.
Conclusion:
Overall I'd only give this game '7.5' it may offer quite a lot by the sound and graphics and it's pretty fun and enjoyable story the game can get boring fast and is easy. I may of said the game offers hours of fun because it does, but those hours will soon get boring you'll switch the game of after playing it. If you can actually sit and play this game for a whole day then you'll a true Retro fan, but someone like me, No thanks, I'll play it for awhile then that'll be all thanks.
*As always, if you have anything to add or have a honest opinion on my review such as if you disagree with anything, then please feel free to share*
*Edited*
I forgot to add, that the story offers over 80 levels, it may seem like quite a lot but the easiness of the game the levels will defiantly seem like less, also the game uses a high score system which can be filled by doing crime and completing missions.
