legend of zelda   dts25
sometimes you play a game and you just feel like you can't put it down. The overall sound, feel, challenge and sheer awesomeness will give you sleepless nights. Just thinking about how you are going to get past a level boss or maybe a puzzle can keep you wondering while at the dinner table. The frustration of a hard part will make you want to smash in the screen. The legend of Zelda: a link to the past will be one of those games, trust me.
first of all let me just state that this will be my first review. It just felt the right time and game to start off with and maybe get you guys to play this game too. After all we are talking about a Zelda game here!
starting the legend
booting up the game will give you a nice screen, with the familiar music we've come to know and love from previous Zelda games (yes I am assuming you have played Zelda games before because if you haven't. You should slap yourself in the face). I selected A link to the past, named my character and began the story. Starting the game will give you an introductory cutscene telling about whats going on now in the world of Hyrule. I don't want to give too many spoilers since story has always been a great deal in Zelda games and this one is no different. However, I'll lift the curtain a little bit. The king has been killed by an evil wizard, who has also been letting maidens mysteriously disappear. It is up to you as brave young link to save the day and stop the evil wizard from completing his plans to let the world fall in dark times. Come to think of it, A Link To The Past and Ocarina of Time have quite some similarities in the storyline. But that's for some other time.overall the twists and turns in the story will still have you surprised at some points.
traveling through hyrule
the graphics look nice and crisp, they really gave it an overhaul for the gameboy advanced. The way the enemies are portrayed are top notch and every time you swing your weapon at them. You can nearly feel the impact of the sword on said enemy. Maybe that's one of the reasons I've really grown fond of this game. Also, how the world looks on your map is just perfect, you can see where you need faster than you can say Zelda and that's quite an achievement for a world that big. Because big is one of the many words I'd use for this game's version of hyrule, big and beautiful.
getting killed, over and over again.
game over, the screen we all fear in any game will almost become one of your best acquaintances in this game. And I don't mean the type you drink a pint with or swap story's with while the hours pass. It's the kind of acquaintance who always annoys the crap out of you and overstays its welcome but somehow you have sympathy for.
This game is hard, unforgivingly hard at some points, the bosses start of easy and slowly graduate in frustrating monsters who will haunt you in your nightmares. The puzzles are cool and well thought through and will sometimes leave you feeling slightly retarded when you can not believe you hadn't seen the solution earlier.
However, that feeling of accomplishment, victory and euphoria (one of the main reasons we've become gamers, right?) when you kill an impossible boss, solve a ridiculously long puzzle or just get through a sequence of enemies without getting killed again, will keep you hooked for nights on end.
conclusion
The legend of Zelda: a link to the past is a great game for everyone who loves the series. It might be a little to deep for people who are new to the Zelda series and a little to hard for people who are looking for a casual experience. However I have had a ton of fun in this game and would love to come back to this story sometime. Given, it's not The Ocarina Of Time but it's the closest a top down 2D version of a Zelda game has ever been!

"The hero that is forced between two worlds"   sonicthehedgeho..
The legendary word known as past......Something that all of us are linked to in some way, shape, or form. As such we’re always told tales about ancestors from our own past that changed the world whether it was for better or for worse, and as you’ve probably heard already that every story has it’s conclusion but what we’ve never figured out is when does the conclusion truly appear. This story follows the same path, leaving you with the memories of the past when a dark evil force was sealed away however; it was never gone for good since it was only waiting to be awakened once again. During that one night though you felt the awakening of a power and from deep within you hear a voice calling out for your help, although you are told to go to sleep by your elderly family member you just know that this power is not your own but the power of the hero spoken throughout the legends of this land. So it’s now time for you to start your adventure and for us to start the review!
Graphics: 8 out of 10
Now while the graphics for this game have vastly improved over the NES games, having more detailed backgrounds and enemies. There aren’t any changes in the graphics from its SNES to GBA port but for this version I guess you could say it stacks up pretty fine compared to other game released for the handheld. If you want some ideas on how the graphics really fit the game, when you first enter the lost
woods it appears all foggy causing many enemies to blend with the background and hard to see at times. Other things that showcase how well the graphics look in this game are the medallions that you collect during your quest through the light and dark world with the three being named “Ether, Bombos, and Quake” Ether having the power to freeze enemies is the surrounding area near you, Bombos as you would guess from the name makes your sword shoot out fire in a spiral motion then it causes the screen to have explosions that cover almost all of the screen, finally Quake having the power where you stab the ground with your sword causing it to violently shake causing enemies to either change into a strange looking enemy or be defeated. A decent job on the graphics so I’d be willing to give the graphics an 8 out of 10 rating.
Sound: 9 out of 10
You’d think that since it’s just a port of the SNES version that the sound wouldn't’t change just like with the graphics but that is where the first mistake that people would normally make. Unlike the graphics section this port did gain additional sound effects compared to the original, as before when Link would attack he wouldn't’t make any sound and you’d only hear the sword swinging but; now he sounds just like how he does in his Young Link self from another Zelda game known as Ocarina of Time. Now in the terms of actual music this game may not have as much compared to other games that came later in the series however; it will leave quite an impression on you from the moment you turn on your GBA, to the time that you’ve finished the quest in Hyrule and have finished the game. Some of my favorite songs in this game have to be Princess Zelda’s theme, Agahnim’s theme, File select theme, and the prologue theme. When you hear the prologue theme and listen to how dark it sounds you know that this game shall draw you into both the story and gameplay immediately, so all in all I’m giving the sound a 9 out of 10
Addictiveness: 7 out of 10
Even though this game isn’t my favorite installment in the series it is definitely still a game that holds my interest, due to how large the world is and having to switch between the Light and Dark World to enter or escape a certain area. One mechanic I like about that factor is only being able to use the Magic Mirror item once and having to find another teleporter if you’re in the Light World and have already used the Mirror which causes you to carefully plan out each move before you can progress forward. This game is also quite long spanning 13
Dungeons (If you include Hyrule Castle with Agahnim) so I’m sure this game will last you at least a few days or weeks depending on how much you’ll spend on this game each day. While this may not be as great as other GBA games it certainly is a great SNES game, which to me earns this a rating of 7 out of 10.
Story: 10+ out of 10
In a dark stormy night you awaken from hearing the pleas of a girl known as Zelda princess of Hyrule, and she is telling you that she needs help from inside the castle as she’s been locked away. Your grandfather notices that you’re awake and cautiously tells you to go back to sleep while he has his sword and shield equipped, he then leaves the house without any other words. Link however; knowing that something is amiss decides to disregard the words of his grandfather, hopping out of bed he heads for Hyrule Castle in the violent sounds of the night. Link quickly reaches his destination wet tunic and all, but; the castle guards do not permit his entry into the castle telling him to buzz off and go back home. Link doesn’t give up yet just because of that and decides to search for another means of entry soon after finding an underground entrance to the basement, once inside he finds his grandfather barely alive as he hears his final words and takes his grandfather’s sword and shield. You’d think that after you defeat the main villain Agahnim that you’ll have finished the game right, well nope because just as you deliver the finishing blow you get transported to an alternate world of Hyrule known as the Dark World now
you’re sent with the task of rescuing the 7 maidens from the Dungeons spread out across the land so you can take down the evil that has been reawakened in this world and become a known hero. An excellent job on the story with this game by making it have an incredibly interesting as well as a detailed prologue and main story so I’m giving the story section a 10+ out of 10 meaning I would rate this higher than 10 but I can’t.
Depth: 9 out of 10
Out of all the games I’ve played through-out the series this game seems to have the most dungeons, 11 actual dungeons and 13 if you count Hyrule Castle and the Palace of the Four Swords. Meaning that this game will most likely take the longest amount of time to beat compared to let’s say for instance Link’s Awakening or Oracle of Seasons/Ages, now in the ways of how much this game offers there isn’t much besides the dungeons. There is one interesting secret that you can unlock in this game that wasn’t possible in the SNES version and that is a room known as “Palace of the Four Swords” which is found by completing the 4 swords game included with this cartridge as well as defeating Ganon on A Link to The Past, then by going where the pyramid of power is located (along with having 20 ruppies) go into the hole and there should be a creature inside asking you to pay him 20 ruppies. When you do this he’ll disappear leaving you to enter the room ahead where you will have to find each one of the 4 swords by defeating the 4 bosses included in this dungeon and after all of that you’ll enter a room where the swords will float over to the corners of the room creating 4 doppelgangers of yourself each with a different color (Green, Blue, Red, Purple) and abilities. Green is average and will stay on the defensive and try to attack you; Red will have more attacks such as using the Pegasus boots and spinning around the room with his sword, Blue will have the same moves as Red however; he has another move similar to the quake medallion, and finally Purple who will be heavily defensive dodging almost all your attacks while he can attack using the Pegasus boots as well as the quake attack plus the Spin attack type move that I mentioned and sometimes he will shoot fire out of his sword. Finally if you are able to defeat them you’ll receive a special ending that you wouldn't’t normally get after finishing the game where you’ll see slides of the Dark World temples and bosses and afterwards a slide showing how many times you’ve used certain items along with how many ruppies you’ve collected and enemies you’ve defeated, so for depth I’d give A Link to The Past a 9 out of 10.
Difficulty: 8 out of 10
Like you would expect from a Zelda game, having many challenges and difficulties is part of the experience when playing this series. This game is definitely no exception to this rule especially like how I mentioned in the addictiveness factor of this review, you can only use the magic mirror once to change from the light to dark world or vice versa and in order to use it once again you must enter a portal in the light world or enter the spot where you used the magic mirror before which does add challenge to this game which I like very much in a game. Not only that but you might think that the normal enemies in the dark world would do the same damage as the enemies in the light world right??? Wrong actually they usually do 2 to 3x the amount of damage that they do in the light world which can also cause you to die easier. Although this game isn’t as difficult as for instance: Zelda II The Adventure of Link on NES or the original Legend of Zelda, it is still a challenging game but it’s that certain level of challenge where it keeps you entertained and makes you enjoy the game so I’m giving the difficulty for this game a 8 out of 10.
Now that you know what task lies ahead of you brave hero chosen by the gods, will you accept the dangers of this quest in order to save this land? As you travel between these 2 worlds granting the wishes of the maidens that have been kidnapped and bringing peace back to the world of Hyrule, you stand there at the entrance where the last of the evil that was brought here is hiding. Will you become a legend? Or will the land of Hyrule be swept away into a land of darkness? Only one way to find out and that is to enter through the path ahead of you so LET’S GO!

Zelda A Link to the Past for Gameboy Advanced   Zora Marslink
This is the third game in the Zelda series, and a major progression of graphics from it’s predecessors. It follows the format of the first Zelda game, that is adventuring to and through dungeons and beating a boss at the end of each dungeon.
Story 9/10
You start out in the game as a young man in a green tunic on a rainy day. You hear a mysterious cry for help and you go off to save the person. This starts the beginning of a grand adventure in which you must save the whole of Hyrule from a great darkness.
The story line is of this game very interesting, but does not get in the way of the game play. It also isn't draw out, or too brief. As you further progress the game you will find out more to the story, giving the game a nice flow.
Controls (Game boy Advanced) 9/10
In the game you play as only Link. You can name Link another name at the beginning of the game. The controls are simple. The A button cannot be set like it can in future games for the Game boy, but will always set for your sword. The B button can be set to any item in the select menu, the items themselves serve various important tasks . The start button opens the save menu. The left trigger activates the map and the right is the action button for talking, opening chests, etc. . The controls are straightforward and easy to use, but being able to use only one item can be slightly annoying when you need two to complete a puzzle.
Play Ability 10/10
The game involves two aspects. One aspect is combat. Though the combat system is not very complicated, sometimes you need to think before you slash. Some monsters slashing is sufficient, others you must use an item. The boss battles themselves are really great to fight. I find no problems with the fighting system, and it certainly is an enjoyable aspect of the game.
The second aspect of the game is the various puzzles that must be solved to progress the game. Some of the puzzles are easy to get through whereas some take a bit of thinking. Some dungeons are puzzles themselves as mazes, and it can be a puzzle to progress to a new dungeon. What’s great about these puzzles is that they blend well with their surroundings. I also see no problems with this aspect of the game.
Graphics 8/10
This game is a tiled based game. The graphics a very satisfying to the eye and are giant leap from the previous games in the series. I didn't see anything wrong with the graphics in general except for some bits that can be expected on a Game boy device. Now to layout view of the game the select menu was decent and is better then the Game boy releases, but it could of used at least on more side menu for the quest items instead of cramping them on the side. Otherwise the layout of the game is nice. Visual effects are also well thought out.
Sound 7/10
I love the soundtrack of this game. The background songs are pleasing to the ear and fit situations like they should, however, the songs lack variety. All the dungeons have the same background song for example. Most of the sound effects are well placed, however, some are annoying. For example when you are low in health you hear a constant high pitched beeping sound. Though perhaps it served its purpose, since you hurried to grab health just to stop the noise...
Depth 8/10
Zelda Link to the Past is not as in depth as future games would be, for it does not have a trading quest, or as many between dungeon quests. Heart pieces in the game cannot be found in dungeons, so you must find outside of them, but since most of them are very easy to find they do not add a tremendous amount of depth. There are extra items you can find outside the story line, and you can also acquire bottles. So the depth is good in the game.
Difficulty- Good (10)
The game presented a good amount of challenges, and was not too easy.
Addictiveness- mediocre (5)
I would not play this a second time in a row (in a short time period), but would certainly continue to play for a 100% play-through.
Overall-8.5/10
Note: Since Addictiveness and Difficulty are implied and tied in the other sections, I do not give the a number rating. I only rate them bad (1), mediocre (5), or good (10) and they are mainly rated on opinion. I bother to rate them for the convenience of the reader.

Zelda a link to the past review   Beastmode64
Link to the past was an OK game. It is about this boy that travels to two dimensions in search of all the sages And beat the evil dark lord ganondorf. Lets start this review.
                                                    Graphics: 8/10
the graphics in this game where OK. I wasn't to thrilled about the graphics. They need more detail put into it. It might of been good at its time but I don't know. There for the graphics an 8/10 stars.
                                                   Sound: 9/10
I thought the sound was great. Cap-com made the sound very swell. It is nice perk for this game. I thought it was good so it deserves a 9/10
                                                   Addictiveness 8/10
when I was 7 I used to play this game all the time it was so fun. I thought the game was magnificent. But know that I have more experience with Zelda after I beat the game at the age of 11 I thought it wasn't so great anymore. This game was addictive so that's why I rated it a 8/10.
                                                   Story 8/10
I thought the story was great. But it wasn't perfect. It is about a young boy who is rule's last hope and he goes on this bug adventure. There are three levels and after you beat the three you get the master sword. Know the heir to the master sword is on another journey to save all the sages and defeat ganondorf the evil dark lord.

                                                  Depth 10/10
this game was very long at its time. I actually think this game has the most temples in the Zelda franchise. Any ways there is plenty to do and that is why the depth dissevers a 10/10.
                                                 Difficulty 4/10
honestly this game was very easy for me. It wasn't frustrating and it is smooth sailing in the temples. There is not much to sat about the difficulty other that it dissevers a 4/10.
                                                Overall 8.9/10
This game was pretty good. I liked it and I recommend it to all Zelda fans. It is a really good game and it earns a 8.9.
That is my review and I hope you liked it. Just reply bellow what you think and comment. Thank you.

A Link to The Fun   Arakkas
A Link to The Past is a fun, intuitive, and long game experience. If I could recommend one LoZ game to my friends, this would be it.
Overall: 8.6
The graphics in this game aren't great, but considering I'm fairly new to the gaming era, and didn't start gaming till ~15, I'm guessing the graphics were quite amazing when it first came out. I specifically like the animations of the Medallions and bosses. There's not too much to say about this area of the game, other than it basically defines "Retro" in it's best respects.
Graphics: 8
The sound in this game was amazing, as expected from a LoZ (Legend of Zelda) game. The music was smooth and cleverly written, and the sound effects were brilliant. The sound added to the immersion as the music changed according to the environment. I specifically liked the end-game music. Again, there's not too much to say about the sound.
Sound: 9
The addictiveness was very good, the re-playability, however, is a different story. The addictiveness was great, you just HAD to beat the boss, HAD to get to the next dungeon. It was very enjoyable. Now that I've completed the game, however...I'm not likely to go back and play it again unless I wait a few months at the least. The difficulty played a big part in this, with the frustration occasionally overwhelming you. After beating the game, I had died ~98 times. Reading that number made me laugh, but only after the fact.
Addictiveness: 6
The story was where this game fell short, basically, you have to free seven maidens after collecting three medallions, to finally fight the final boss and complete the game. So basically, you run around completing dungeons, and that's the entire story...I get that there's a BIT more to it than that, but not by much.
Story: 3
The depth is where this game shines. Like I said before, there's eleven dungeons. Eleven. You heard me. That's a whole lot of dungeons, considering each one takes ~30 minutes your first time. There's a ton of pieces of hearts to collect, side quests to do, and people to help. You could start up the game and just walk around, and find stuff you've never seen before. It's really cool to be able to just walk into a house and find a sick person who'll give you an item, or find a lost blacksmith and return him to his shop. You could go to every corner of the world, finding fairies that respond to honesty with items and rewards. You could throw all of your money into a pond, just to find your quiver has grown massively in size.
Depth: 8
The difficulty is very hard, to be honest. The bosses specifically. With old games like this, you're going to have to go out of the dungeon and restock on potions and fairies if you want to be able to beat the boss, there's no easy as pie way to do this. At one point in the game, I went through a lengthy dungeon and realized as I was fighting the boss that I was missing an item that I forgot to collect earlier, and had to leave, and redo the dungeon after grabbing the item.
Difficulty: 9

Legend of Zelda: Four swords review   minorman4
The Four swords, a brilliant game for young and old gamers. I've only played it for a bit and completed the main story line. It isn't that long that I remember and is a bit like a Mario game; The princess has been kidnapped and you have to go through levels to save her... But there is more to do after the main story line, but I'll tell you that in a sec.
Story:
==Spoilers==So Link and princess Zelda visit the Four Sword chamber because Zelda feels a disturbance there. Soon after Vaati comes out and steals princess Zelda. Link tries to stop Vaati and gets thrown away, then three fairies wake Link up and takes the "four swords" sword becomes into a shattered "four swords" Link. You are then able to control Link and choose where you go. The three great fairies are in the areas. Sea of trees, Death mountain (a recurring theme in the Zelda series) and talus Cave. You go through all these levels and get keys that the fairies give you that unlocks Vaati's palace. You defeat all of the levels and get prepared for the final boss battle. Vaati goes into a statue that looks like a U.F.O and tries to suck you in. You defeat him and land the final blow and defeat him for good. Princess Zelda says thank you Link and the game is over.
==End of Spoilers==(A little note, I play the 25th anniversary Four swords, so it may be different to the first version)
Graphics:
The graphic aspect of the game is top notch! It is one of the best for the game boy advance (is that the right console? I know it is 16-bit) and that is far going! I have to say, I find it more addictive than the Pokémon game at that era. (I really love my Pokémon, so it dose hurt me to say that... but it is true!) I think that it the movement of the sprites are well done too! They move clean and smooth... I don't see any problem with it.
Game play:
The game play aspect of it is easy to pick up and play without thinking how to learn. I went straight into the game without learning anything, I find it more pleasing than doing a tutorial of how to play... those are normally long and frustrating and are not really useful. The items of the game are really useful and are fun to mess around with. The bombs, fun to throw at friends that are playing with you. You can link up and play together and (I think this happens) save onto your own game and thus, each other can help to complete the game if one is behind the other. Unfortunately, there is no 8-axis control, so you can't go diagonally... but there is no need to though... lol...
Difficulty:
I would say it is a medium difficulty only because, I needed to think how to do certain bits of the game. I also found the end boss Vaati, quite hard but I did it with the "Multiplayer" ability and did it more faster than I would of before because there is more than one person attacking Vaati.
Summery:
It is a fun and enjoyable game for anyone who is in the Zelda franchise and love RPG's and love the 16-bit era! I love it and you should too! There is hardly anything to moan about and is just about perfect for a quick play or a massive one go play though. It is one of the best games in Nintendo. If you have a dsi and/or a 3ds and have Internet connection, go get the anniversary version NOW! It is free and won't be regretted!

AMAZING   LegendOfZelda
This game is very fun, I have this for the GBA and have always loved this spectacular fun classic game. This game came out in 1991 for the super famicom system and since has been ported to SNES, GBA, Wii, and the best, here. The reason this game is so fun is because firstly, the difficulty is average, and a little too easy once you get the hang of it, it takes a while to beat because of the many temples and fun filled side quests, this game is very addictive also, it makes you play for hours without stopping. The story is very amazing as well, the graphics for a SNES is very amazing, BUT LASTLY, THE GAME'S MUSIC IS AMAZING! Listen to the soundtrack to find out for yourself...

GUYS YOU CAN'T PLAY FOUR SWORDS EVEN WITH NETPLAY, THE ADMINS NEED TO FIGURE OUT ON HOW TO USE NETPLAY AS A "GBA LINK CABLE". Do I make my point?
supersonicracin.. 06-01-13 - 08:14 AM

@pa05 & Baxter9181: You can't do play with others on here. There's no netplay sessions for the GBA for some reason.
jo25 05-14-13 - 11:12 AM
@newgroundsfan you cant play four swords singleplayer this is the Gameboy Advance version! you need to link with others to play.
jo25 05-14-13 - 11:08 AM
