Super Pinball: Behind the Mask CrimsonTHRAK
This is a very obscure game for SNES. It's yet another game I happened to own while growing up. This is also one of the overlooked games on the SNES game library. I actually have a lot to say about this one. If you are looking for a strange and weird looking game, Super Pinball: Behind the Mask is one of them.
STORY: 5
Pinball machines and games don't really have a story. The ones you probaly see are based off of popular TV shows, movies, and video games. It's mostly score the most points before you loose your 3 balls. This particular pinball game just so happens to have a story. The 3 tables on the game are all supposed to be part of it. The story is about you are on a conquest to become a pinball wizard. In order to become the pinball wizard, you must escape the 3 forbidden doors that are guarded by the Jolly Joker (Table 1), Blackbeard and Ironmen (table 2) and the Pinball Wizard himself (Table 3). You must defeat them in order to complete your conquest (Reach the required score).
DIFFICULTY: 2
I like how this has an almost perfect ball simulation to this game. This game is pretty easy. The controls on this game are quick and easy to learn. I don't have much to say on this one.
GRAPHICS: 9
this game has some really impressive graphics. I know that it is just a bunch of pictures on the tables and game menu screen. The atmosphere of this game has a quite creepy feel to it. It seems to me that a lot of people who played this game happened to be disturbed by this. I can see the reason why. When I played this at a young age, I never got creeped out. I thought it was cool. The Theme of the tables are a jester theme, a pirate theme, and of course a wizard theme. I Love the artwork on the characters and tables. The characters are really realistic.
SOUND: 10
the sound of this game are phenomenal. There are tons of sound effects on the game. They are the same sound effects on each table. The music on this is incredible. This yet another reason why people were so creeped out by this game. This game also includes a creepy voice. It would say "wanna try again?", "get ready", and "oh my goodness" (Yes it does say that.) The voice also has a creepy but funny laugh. I have to admit, the soundtrack on this game is a little freaky. Blackbeard and ironmen's music on the table happeneds to be my favorite. The sounds and music on this is what makes the game amazing.
DEPTH: 8
Like I said, this game includes 3 tables. There is a free mode where you can play the 3 tables. Up to 4 players (take turns) can play to see who can get the high score. There is really not much to say on this category. 3 tables, conquest, and a multiplayer mode is what the game offers.
ADDICTIVENESS: 9
This pinball simulator can get really fun. This is a great way to waste time that you don't probably need. I could play this any day. Next to Real Time Strategy, Pinball simulation is my favorite genre.
OVERALL: 9
This is my favorite SNES game (Next to Super Mario All-Stars). I don't know why. There is something about it that makes it very unique. Pinball fans should really try this out if they have the chance.
This has been a review of Super Pinball: Behind the Mask. I hope you all enjoy reading this.
