Street Fighter II Turbo - Hyper Fighting Review by: SacredShadow - 9.2/10

Street fighter II Turbo hyper fighting
Hey guys, Razor-987 with another game review here! Today I will be reviewing Street fighter II turbo hyper fighting! Sounds like a mouthful right? Well it is! This game was released in 1993 and it was to hit the arcades in the same year. This great 2d fighting game was published by none other than capcom. It is the 3rd game in the street fighter II series coming after street fighter II: Championship edition. This game was released only a year after the last one, but it features a faster fighting speed, hence the turbo hyper fighting. This great game also has new moves for certain characters and further refinement as well. Now on to the review!

Gameplay:
So before I jump right into anything, I am just going to go over the basic modes of this game so there isn't any kind of confusion.

There are 2 basic modes in which you can choose to play. There is the turbo mode which is more fast paced and requires you to act quicker and puts emphasis on speed through the gameplay. Then of course, there is the normal mode which is at normal speed, I would recommend trying this mode out first if you don't want to jump right into turbo or if you aren't very experienced with street fighter games. It's up to you though.

Then there is the champion mode which is exactly the same as in the 2nd street fighter, the world warrior, only now you can play 4 new characters. You basically travel around the world and fight against each character until you make your way to the evil villain, M Bison.

NOTE: The champion mode in this game is already set at turbo mode, so if you aren't ready, I suggest getting in some practice before giving this a shot!
The of course there is multiplayer which is fun because you get to beat up your friends too! I think this is a best way to get a true feel for all this game has to offer, so I would suggest giving this mode a try so you won't miss out on any of the fun!

Graphics: 9

Personally I have always thought that the graphics for street fighter were pretty amazing. They always look clear and sharp and detailed and this game is no exception to that. I will say that the main changes to this game were the playing speed in which you can choose to go at the normal speed or the turbo hyper fighting speed. With that, there are move combinations that correspond with certain characters in the game, like Dhalsim's ability to teleport. The regular street fighter games were too slow to play, so they decided to speed it up a notch, but in order to do that, the attacks and moves are also sped up to match that. This leads to a greater chance for error and it requires more precision and better timing to complete the move chain. Aside from that you can play as the 4 bosses in the game, such as Vega, Balrog, Sagat and M. Bison. Other than a few color and palette changes though, everything is still pretty much the same as it was in the original and I think it is best that way. With that being said, it still looks very nice and all of the iconic stages are all the same as before. I don't think people would really appreciate it if they changed the stages up from the original. Overall the graphics and the character sprites still look pretty sharp and amazing, therefore I scored the graphics a 9. To be honest, I've always thought street fighter had some good clear graphics.

Sound: 8

have to admit, the sound of this game is almost as amazing as the graphics. The music played in the background is intense and it really gets you in the mood for a battle because it speeds up the closer you are to getting a KO which really makes it all the more intense. Besides that, the actions and sounds are pretty accurate, like when you kick another character or throw them onto the crate or on a crate, it sounds realistic and accurate rather than having no sound at all. I think that those are 2 important major factors in this game. The sound is pretty much the same as it was before in the original and I don't really think there was much of a need to change the sound from a game that already had it pretty good. Therefore I give the sound an 8 because it was already well done in the original version, so I don't think they really needed to change it to begin with.

Addictiveness: 9
Overall I think that this game is fairly addicting for a number of reasons. If you loose in a tournament or even just a match against the computer, you are bound to be addicted to keep on trying until you win. Aside from that, there are a tone of little extras that have been added to this game, like 4 new characters, some new move combos and modes as well as new uniforms for each character. So if you aren't hooked or determined to play the game again from loosing in a match, all the little extra stuff will certainly push you to do so! As I mentioned before, there are some new modes, with the addition of multiplayer, you can beat the snot out of each other with your friends, which makes the game all the more fun. Plus you can also play in single player mode with a variety of difficulties to choose from depending on how good you are with street fighter. The difficulty goes all the way up to 10, and let me tell you right now, its not easy, but with a lot of practice you can stand a good chance. So with all of the little things added to make this game better plus the option to play against tough computers or with multiplayer, that just makes the replay value of this game skyrocket...up to a 9 to be exact. This game is totally worth a try and I can guarantee you will get a good few hours out of playing this game which is why I rated it so highly!

Story: 5
The plot that goes along with street fighter is pretty much the same as it always is, nevertheless though, each one of the 12 characters you can play in the game has their own reason and motivation for entering into the tournament which is revealed at the end when you beat the game with that specific character. So altogether, there are 12 different possible plots you can end up with depending on who you decide to beat the game with. It may not be much to go on as far as a plot is concerned, but it is better than nothing. In all honesty though, you don't really come to this game for the story to begin with, the primary focus of this game is meant to be on the fighting and the action, the story and the reason why all of the characters are here comes later on. To sum it all up, I don't think the story is all that important a factor in this game, I am glad that they throw something in their to show the purpose in which all the fighters entered, but it isn't really needed. So don't be discouraged from playing this game because of the 5 for story, because that isn't what this game is really all about, I would say that the story is about 10% of the importance of the entire game, if that, so don't be fooled, this game is awesome with or without a story, so I left it at a 5, by the time you start playing this game, you will forget there even is a story to begin with.

Depth: 7
Okay, this game offers quite a bit for you to do, from the various modes you can choose to play with, as well as the extra stuff added in from the original, I think there is more than enough in this game to keep you busy. You can choose to play with friends which is fun, or you can choose to either enter a tournament or go 1 on 1 against any computer of your choice on any difficulty. There is a good amount of stuff for you to do in this game to keep you busy, so there isn't really a reason to be bored with this game so quickly. It is really a step up from the depth I would've scored the original game which didn't have all the modes that this one has. When you choose to go against a computer, their is also a difficulty level you can choose for the computer to be along with it, it goes all the way up to 10, so if you really want to be good with this game and master it, I can guarantee it is going to take some time to train and reach that level of perfection, all the more reason to go and brush up on your moves! I spent a considerable amount of time training and trying to improve and get better at taking on more difficult computers, so with all the modes and new stuff added to this game, their should be lots of motivation to play this game because it really does offer quite a bit. Overall I scored it a 7 because there is more than enough to keep you busy in this game.

Difficulty: 8
I am just going to say that the difficulty of this game all depends on you. If you have had prior experience with these games, then it probably won't be as hard for you compared to someone who is new to them. Not to say that this will be a walk through the park for you, but all of the prior experience does help you out in this game. I would say that anywhere above a level 5 computer is going to be difficult, not impossible, but it will be a little challenging, but that is what you can expect from a fighting game right? ?All I can tell you is to be patient and practice, because the more you play this game and get familiar with it, the better you will be in the end. Soon you will be able to tackle more difficult computers with ease! So even though it might be a little challenging, that is no reason to quit, just keep at it and you will get better. With each fight or tournament you take place in, the more you will get the hang of things.

As far as it goes control wise, it is a little bit more challenging than it was in the world warrior. There is more strain on you to respond and react quicker to complete or counter attacks. That would be the only gripe I would have as far as difficulty goes, at first it may be hard to keep up, but as you get in the habit of fighting, the quick reaction will come to you. I suggest that if you think the turbo mode is too difficult and fast paced, that you should try and start at just the regular speed and work your way up to fighting at the turbo hyper fighting level. The most important thing is to stay level headed and not get so bent out of shape if you aren't able to win right away, so what if you didn't win on your first try? Practice makes perfect remember? Overall, the difficulty is kind of variable on your prior skills, but the only reason I rated it an 8 is based on how difficult it was for me. I am pretty good at street fighter games, and even still I found this game to be a challenge for me, so it may or may not be that way for everyone, but this is just based entirely off of my experience of the game. For you it could vary to being harder or not being difficult at all.

Overall: 9.4
Would I recommend playing this game? If you are a fan of fighting types of games, or even a street fighter fan, then yes I would definitely recommend this game to you. You can't say that you are the master of street fighter until you have played this game and experienced all it has to offer! This game is addictive and fun, and not to mention it is full of awesome fast paced action, so this game is perfect if you are into these kinds of fighting and street fighter type games. I enjoyed every second of playing this game, it seemed impossible at times, but through practice and training comes mastery, and it all pays off in the end. I am more than happy to have played this game and experienced all of its glory. So if this sort of thing is up your ally, then by all means play it! I hope you will enjoy it just as much, if not, more than I did.

So, what did you think of my review? Please feel free to comment and provide constructive feedback on it so that I can become a better reviewer. I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading!

Street Fighter II Turbo - Hyper Fighting Game Description

Choose from twelve street fighters from around the world, skilled in a variety of martial arts -- for instance, a character named E.Honda is a sumo wrestler from Japan, while Ken is a master of Tae Kwon Do from the United States. Journey to different countries to defeat other fighters, eventually leading up to a battle with evil man M.Bison. Besides the standard punches and kicks, each character can also execute special moves, such as energy projectiles or lightning-fast kicks, for more damage or to create a chain of hit combos. This home version is a re-release of the original Street Fighter 2 game with several major improvements: the 'boss' characters (Vega, Balrog, Sagat, and M. Bison) are automatically unlocked for you to play, each character receives some new or upgraded moves and costume colors, and you can select a Turbo speed level which lets you play at a faster speed. It is based on the arcade re-release by the same name which also contained the subtitle "Hyper Fighting."
