“The confusion is solved after 8 months”   sonicthehedgeho..
As you stood there confused, wondering why your game has ended so quickly. It seemed as if Robotnik went down way too easily this time, and we just assumed that he was finally taken down, but something just kept nagging at us in our head saying “NO there’s no way this can be the end!” In October 1994 we finally had our questioning finished when Sega released Sonic & Knuckles for the Sega Genesis, which was a direct sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 which If you’ve read my review of that before starting this one (Don’t know why you’d read this one first?) you’ll remember I said that they actually wanted Sonic 3 to be a bigger game but in the end due to limitations they had to split their idea into two separate games Sonic 3 and its sequel released 8 months later known as Sonic & Knuckles. Anyway now that you’ve made Robotnik’s Death Egg ignite into fire and explosions as it falls along with its ashes into hopefully for Sonic...the sea, but the destruction of the Death Egg has also thrown you down deep into a mysterious spot on Floating Island known as the Mushroom Hills. Our blue-blur knew he didn’t have any time to waste as he knew Robotnik would eventually come along to look for the Master Emerald located on Floating Island which is the most powerful emerald known to the Sonic World as it has the power to stop the chaos emeralds (and most likely the Super Emeralds as well). However; one problematic scenario appears before us, while we try and stop Robotnik how are we supposed to fend off against that stubborn echidna Knuckles who always seems to try and prevent us from moving forwards. It’s time for another adventure so as Sonic would say “This is gonna be way past cool” so let’s begin the review!
Graphics: 9 out of 10
The only reason I have rated this a 9 out of 10 is because compared to other levels in Sonic 3 this game had better visual backgrounds and stages in my opinion my personal favorite being either Mushroom Hill Zone or Sky Sanctuary, if you were to just ask about the basic graphics I would only give it a 8 out of 10 because all the characters look the same as in Sonic 3...Also since like I said this was supposed to be a single game but had to be divided because of limitations I guess we can’t really blame Sega for this. Anyway I feel the levels in Sonic & Knuckles put more emphasis on their levels such as the rotating conveyor belts in Flying Battery Zone, to the ancient and home to the Super Emeralds known as Hidden Palace Zone, and even the toadstool field land of Mushroom Hill Zone (I bet Mario would love it here). Although the graphics may have been the same (especially since it has a good reason) I don’t think it’s a reason to not give this game a chance to impress you at all as I’m certainly sure that at least one point in this game will make you smile so I’d give this game a 9 out of 10 for its graphics.
Sound: 10 out of 10
This is definitely my favorite out of all the Sonic genesis games especially for the music as there is only 1 song in general that I dislike but not so much as I did with Sonic 3’s version which is the Super Sonic theme since this one has a nicer sounding tone and it doesn’t sound as repetitive because of it. What are my most favorite tracks you say? To be honest I don’t have one song in particular I like but if I had to choose then my favorite tracks would be from 4 different levels: Flying Battery Zone, Sky Sanctuary Zone, Death Egg Zone, and finally The Doomsday Zone and I shall explain in detail why I like these songs in their own individual sections. For Flying Battery Zone I enjoy how it starts off sounding soft but yet it has a feeling of speed at the same time, then it goes into a more hardcore beat giving you an even greater feeling of adventure as you traverse the flying aircraft. In Sky Sanctuary Zone I love how even though you know that it’s dangerous you have an ambient and calm tone playing in the background almost making it seem as if you’re just enjoying the scenery as you speed through the level. At Death Egg Zone it’s exactly what you would expect of a villain’s main hideout/fortress to sound like, very dark and mysterious with that hint of danger lying ahead of you along with the fact that you’re almost at the Evil Doctor Robotnik’s location. Lastly The Doomsday Zone gives you a strong feeling of empowerment as well as ecstasy since you know you’re at the end of the line as you take down the doctor’s last ace in the hole and save Floating Island. Finally we should talk about the sound effects for Sonic & Knuckles which as I stated in Sonic 3 I found them to be superb especially the shield power-up sound effects (Static like for Electric, Torch like for Flame, and I guess you could say Spring like for Water). I’d say if you want a Sonic game that’ll have great music while you play along then Sonic & Knuckles is definitely for you so I’d give this a 9 out of 10
Addictiveness: 10 out of 10
As you know I really enjoyed the previous game (Sonic 3) because of how the story of the game started off exactly at the end of Sonic 2. This game was no exception as this one I enjoyed how it left off from the 3rd entry in the series because I didn’t enjoy how the last game ending with Sonic jumping in front of the screen after destroying Robotnik’s newest machine which made me scratch my head since I knew that couldn't’t have been the end of the game so when this game started off in Mushroom Hill Zone I was relieved to see that this was in actuality where Sonic 3 would have continued had it been as long as intended. Not only that but you can play as Knuckles the Echidna in this game, where he does not only have his own path to traverse through in certain levels but also a new story for him as well because in the game Knuckles has a new foe known as Egg Robo who threw a bomb into the lands of Mushroom Hill Zone where Knuckles just happened to be relaxing at. I’m guessing that’s it for everything you can do on Sonic & Knuckles right?! So sorry to inform you but that is incorrect as this game cartridge was designed with something known as Lock-on technology where you could lock on the previous Sonic Games to play extra modes that couldn't’t normally be accessed such as putting a Sonic 2 cartridge on a Sonic and Knuckles cartridge enabling you to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2, and including Sonic 1 with Sonic and Knuckles makes it so you can play a game known as Blue Sphere which is basically playing Sonic 3’s special stages until you reach the last level, as well as locking onto Sonic 3 with Sonic and Knuckles which basically lets you play Sonic 3 if it had been made as long as originally intended. However; I shouldn't’t dwell too deep into those facts since this is a Sonic & Knuckles review and nothing else, so in terms of addictiveness I’d definitely suggest picking up Sonic & Knuckles since it deserves a 10 out of 10 in my books.
Story: 9 out of 10
You’ve now finished the showdown between you and the despicable Dr. Ivo Robotnik upon the Death Egg, and as Sonic as well as his partner Tails watched his fortress fall into oblivion they’d assumed that this was the end of the Death Egg as well as Robotnik’s plan for Floating Island. But then in the blink of an eye they found out that the mechanical fortress had just fallen onto a part of the Floating Island having been severely damaged in their confrontation though, Robotnik has decided to find the Master Emerald in order to power his creation to have the Death Egg be born anew. Sonic knows he must race against time while crushing through the badnicks and areas in order to stop Robotnik from stealing the emerald and return peace to the Floating Island which in turn means he’ll have to help that pesky echidna even if it means having to deal with him in a fight, will this rivalry end up with the destruction of the Island? Guess that’s something only you the player can find out by playing this game so the story gets a 9 out of 10.
Depth: 9 out of 10
Compared to Sonic 3 This game is in all actually longer containing 15 acts or in simpler terms 7 worlds with 2 acts and the final world with only one act (Doomsday Zone). However; there are only 6 worlds with 2 acts if you play as Knuckles although you can access the Death Egg Zone with Knuckles by using the level select menu, Still having this many levels and worlds each with their own traits by which player you choose to play as...is one of the main reasons why this is my favorite Sonic Genesis game of all time. I already mentioned above that you can choose between Sonic or Knuckles where each one’s levels can vary in what path you take which I find very intriguing and a fun addition to this game since they could’ve just made you play as Sonic and leave Knuckles as an enemy, finally there is one character that I haven’t mentioned yet and he plays differently depending on who you fight against him with. This character is known as Mecha Sonic, now you’re probably thinking “So...is this just an upgraded version of Metal Sonic?” In a sense yes but that’s not 100% true and an easy way to tell you about Mecha Sonic is to imagine having Silver Sonic and Metal Sonic combined into one creation. Basically having the electrical powers and energy blast of Metal Sonic and the speed and spinning blades of Silver Sonic, now let’s say if you were to play as Sonic you could consider him a normal boss and once you defeat him he’s done on the other hand if you play as Knuckles during this boss he won’t go down so easily and will use the power of the Master Emerald to transform into Super Mecha Sonic which you can think of as the Final Boss for Knuckles. With all of this in consideration it’s certainly fair to give the game a depth rating of 9 out of 10.
Difficulty: 7.5 out of 10
In my opinion Sonic & Knuckles difficulty has been both spiked up a notch and toned down a bit as if you want a harder game it’s best to choose Sonic since he can’t climb walls like how Knuckles can, even with this ability this game will still give you a few stabs here and there so don’t take this game too lightly because of this. Just like before in Sonic 3 you have the 3 shields that were introduced to help you out in various situations the electric, fire, and water shield which if you’ve read my previous review they should be self-explanatory but just in case you haven’t read it let me just put it like this (Electric + against anything electrical, - against water, and – against water. Fire + against lave and fire attacking enemies, - against water and electricity. Water + being underwater without the worry of drowning, - against fire and electric) I guess we could also include the insta-shield which Sonic can use by pressing the jump button twice but since this isn’t a shield that you pick up so I didn’t add it in the above scenario. One thing I will say is the final boss can be tough if you’re not good a ring collecting and dodging obstacles since you’ll be losing rings due to your Super Sonic form and if you run out you lose a life so keep an eye out for rings and be quick on your feet, all in all I’d give the difficulty a 7.5 out of 10.
It’s finally time to face against the foul doctor once more by going into space and chasing after him as Super Sonic in order to stop him by retrieving the Master Emerald and returning it to the Floating Island so the hot-headed echidna can watch over it again to hopefully protect it from being stolen once again. We’re now prepared to leave this Island and head back home having done our deed by bringing justice to the lands of Mobius, as we fly away our rival as well as newly acquired friend Knuckles watches us depart and most likely thinks to himself “I’m willing to bet this isn’t the last I’ll see of that hedgehog” This tale has finally reached its conclusion so I guess just like Tails and Sonic I’d better be off as well.

2 stories, 2 guys, 2 attachable sequels and lots more to come in this quest!   RedHotToddy
If you guys haven't noticed, Each next installment in a video game franchise is supposed to bring so much more cool and brand new things to the table the time being. Sonic the hedgehog is no exception! Each sonic game after the last brings us so much more characters, levels, bosses, bad guys, and well, you guys get the point here! The thing is though Sonic and knuckles has always been in my opinion the most ambitious game of the whole genesis trilogy, And well, you guys are about to find out why in just a second! This is Sonic and knuckles for the Sega genesis.
Story-7/10
Alright, once again, the plot is continuing from the last game in the trilogy, The thing here is, Well I will tell you guys! Sonic and knuckles picks up rom where the last game has previously ended, You have stopped Dr robotnik at the launch base, and thus his death egg has now crashed into the floating island and into the lava reef, Now don't get annoyed here, But Dr robotnik is still coming up with plans to bring back the death egg! How will he do it this time? Well guys, He is going to do the most daring thing of all! Capture the precious Master emerald from the Island! This precious has been guarded by knuckles for the whole time being, and he will do anything to make sure It stays there! Sonic and knuckles find out about this, Now their quest officially begins!
Gameplay-8/10
Sonic and knuckles still plays like all the three previous sonic games I have reviewed lately, Except there are once again more brand new things to come here! And here It Is, The game can now be played in certain "Stories" Which means, Sonic has his own side to the story, and Knuckles has his own side to the story, It is similar to that of Shadow the hedgehog in that aspect, Except Shadow the hedgehog lets you play levels in certain orders in order to get new and different endings, But anyways, As sonic and knuckles, It is your job to guide sonic and knuckles through 6-8 huge dangerous and vast levels! Defeating enemies, collecting goodies, and well, Running really fast! Controls are the same in all, D-pad is move, A B and C are jump, And that is all. Sonic and knuckles control very differently from each other, and here is why so, Sonic controls like he did in the previous three games, and well, Knuckles is a brand new addition to the pack! Knuckles can glide, punch, climb, and sore his way to victory! I will say, Knuckles is a very likable character, He has everything that Sonic has, and that is a plus. Now for the special stages, they are pretty much the same as they were in Sonic three, you run around giant 3D stage and run through the blue spheres! The level design is pretty nifty to say the least, The first level of a world now has a special mini boss to go with it! The third game didn't have any of that from what I remember! Now for the actual bosses, They are as always really challenging and really offer tons of challenge for the player! Returning once again are the sub stages from the last game, And these levels include Super sonic levels where you roar through the stars as Super sonic! Avoiding meteors and such in your way. Oh yeah, This game most remarkably uses a new nifty "Lock on" Feature! With this feature, you can play as Knuckles in sonic 2 and 3! Just plug on any of those two games on top of Sonic and knuckles, and viola! You can now play as knuckles in Sonic two and three! DLC before It was cool guys.... Anyways, that is It for the gameplay!
Graphics-9/10
This is the fourth installment in the sonic franchise, and for what It is worth, This is without a doubt the best looking sonic on the genesis in a while! Sonic and the gang are back, and they are looking as better ever! Except the cast of characters has shrunk now! Instead of Sonic tails knuckles and eggman, It is now Sonic knuckles and eggman! It is no real big though, But anyways, each level in this game is bright, vast, big, colorful, and just a blast to explore from start to finish! The levels here arrange from glaciers, volcanoes, jungles, airships, and so on! Now for the actual characters and sprites and such, They are once again very recognizable and really good as well! These sprites though have been the main source used for sprite movies, scene creators, and so on! Now please note that Only sonic one and two use the classic sonic sprite from there, Every game after uses the taller sonic that we have here!
Sound-8/10
Ah, by now, you should just already know how amazing awesome the music and sound is in each sonic game after the last! And this game uses the best soundtrack out of all of them! The music in this game is not only catchy, bright, upbeat and happy, But It also sounds like they put tons of effort into It as well! As you dash through the mushroom hills, you get zany sounding 16-bit music at It's absolute finest! Good they put this one in generations! Or! The suspenseful and dangerous music as you blast through the skies as Super sonic! That is my personal favorite one! Now for the sound effects, they are exactly the same as what you have been hearing in exactly last two games, But they are still pretty good! No problem, you got your jump sound, your ring sound, your hurt sound, your exactly and bounces, and so on! Anyways, that is pretty much It for the soundtrack!
Addictiveness-8/10
As a kid, I had so much fun latching on Sonic two and three just so I could play as knuckles in those two games, and I really really miss doing It today! I mean think of It, All you needed was just a genesis, and three games! You didn't need all of this internet and online stuff to do it! Oh yeah, please note that if you put any game on top of Sonic and knuckles besides sonic two and sonic three, then you will be taken to a home version of the Special stages from sonic 3! Yeah, I wasn't aware of this, But now i know. The actual game is still pretty darn fun and speedy as usual! The new two story feature also works alot as well!
Depth-8/10
In my honest opinion, this game offers without a doubt the most amount of content then any other sonic game before It! I mean, just look at this! The game most importantly features the all new and innovative lock on feature where you can lock on Sonic two and three and play through the two games with knuckles AND unlock new stuff and secrets you couldn't find before! The main adventure is also 6-7 worlds long, So prepare for a long and healthy 1-3 hour quest! And there are those crafty chaos emeralds, which let you turn into Super Sonic, You know you want to!
Difficulty-8/10
Man, this game was all fun and such,But the game also suffers from a pretty high difficulty level as well! When I was little, I had trouble playing through the flying battery zone, I hated It with all my might! I got to the boss fight and just completly gave up all hope from there! But as the years passed, I have gotten better at this game and complete It all in a sitting! No save states and nothing! Oh well, Sonic games ar known from their difficulty level, so don't blame Sega!
Overall-9.3/10
This is without a doubt the most ambitious sonic game I have played in a while! Not because It offers tons of new stuff, But It is because the game's lock on feature! I personally thought this was an excellent Idea from the start! And It is still today! Now anyways, I gave this game a 9.3 because how much It has for you to do, and the challenge level! Anyways, this has been RedHotToddy's 117 review, and well, See you guys later!

Quite a good and addicting game   pacman1755
This game is super addicting, I love this game, even though it does have a few flaws, like the story, kinda off on that, basically Sonic 3 Part 2 kinda story. Difficulty is hard at some times, some of the levels I did get stuck in a few levels, overall it is a great game and go to the RGR and play this game now!

Best...Expansion Pack...EVER!   Itachi9695
Before I begin, Happy Thanksgiving Vizzed Board! Welcome back to Sonic 2 Month, today I'll be reviewing Sonic & Knuckles. Now, Sonic 3 was fun, but it was missing...something. Actually, as it turns out, it was missing quite a bit. Sonic 3 was released early on in 1994 and Sonic & Knuckles was released November of the same year. This game was an expansion to Sonic 3 (Well, technically, it was the missing half of the game) and featured Lock-On Technology. It had a cartridge reader on top of the cartridge so that you could insert Sonic 3 and complete the game and play as Knuckles in Sonic 3, you could attach Sonic 2 to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2, and you could put pretty any other Genesis cartridge and get more Blue Sphere stages (Yay?). Now this "Expansion Pack" could actually be played as its own game, it's the only expansion I know of that can do that (Eat that, World of Warcraft!). So how good of a game was this "expansion"? Let's find out!
Graphics
The graphics here are pretty much the same as Sonic 3. One thing different though, is that the Super Sonic ending art looks a million times better in this game. That being said though, there is one thing I forgot to mention during my Sonic 3 review. The Special Stages look amazing. Now remember, the Genesis didn't have Mode 7 capabilities, but these Special Stages would probably make you say otherwise. They're rendered in a semi-3D terrain and just look very good, especially on the Genesis. The cutscenes are back and the animations are still pretty good as well. They keep the story moving quite nicely even if they don't have voice acting. While the game's graphics are pretty much the same as Sonic 3's, I would believe that's mainly due to the fact that this is part of that game anyway.
Sound
If I had to summarize the soundtrack in one word, it would be AWESOME! But, let's not just keep it there, let's elaborate on why I think it's awesome. Everything from Mushroom Hill Zone to Doomsday Zone just fits so perfectly with its setting. I especially like the Flying Battery Zone music. There were some rather unfortunate, in my opinion, changes to some of the tracks from Sonic 3. The mini-boss theme is different, Knuckles' theme is different, the invincibility theme is different, there are a couple more, but that would be getting nit-picky. I certainly don't absolutely hate these changes, but I kind of wish they'd kept those themes from Sonic 3 (But hey, that's what Sonic 3 Complete is here for right?). As a whole, the soundtrack is just as good, if not better than Sonic 3's.
Addictiveness
This game is really addicting. Sure, they dropped the save feature from Sonic 3, but it's actually a little more addicting. Maybe it's the fact that we can finally play as Knuckles. The game offers many paths to use to get to certain locations, but then again, what good Sonic game doesn't? This really keeps you coming back, especially since Knuckles has his own paths that only he can take. There is also a level exclusive to Super Sonic, but I'll talk more about that a little later. Overall, this game is very addicting, it's just something that'll keep you coming back every so often to see just what paths you haven't taken.
Story
Once again, this game's story is integrated within the game itself through small cutscenes, but I'll give you a basic rundown of what happens at the beginning. After the events of Sonic 3, it appears that Sonic has defeated Eggman and his Death Egg once again. Well, he'd better think again, because Eggman's back and ready to finish what he started on Angel Island. It's up to Sonic to stop Eggman once and for all. However, just like in Sonic 3, (Yeah, I forgot to mention this too.) Knuckles is always trying to get in your way and stop your progress. He's always one step ahead of you and will try anything to stop you, he even throws a boulder at you! The rest of the story is pretty self-explanatory, so I'll stop here, but not before saying that the story is better than Sonic 3 and definitely gives you a nice conclusion to everything.
Depth
Since it's a lock-on game, there is a lot you can do just by having this cartridge, but let's talk about what's actually in-game. There are a total of 7 Zones (8 including the Super Sonic exclusive level). They are: Mushroom Hill (Sounds more like a Mario level doesn't it?), Flying Battery, Sandopolis (I hate this level, it's too long and repetitive), Lava Reef, Hidden Palace, Sky Sanctuary, Death Egg (Sonic only, now actually a level), and Doomsday (Super Sonic only, final boss of the whole game). The first four zones have 2 Acts each and the next two Zones have 1 Act, Death Egg technically has 2 Acts, and Doomsday is only one Act. Once again, the Special Stages are Blue Spheres and there are 7 of them. Collect all 7, you can become Super Sonic or Super Knuckles. I think it's neat that there's a level/boss that is exclusive to Super Sonic, it's also the first time in the series there's been one, but this becomes a trend in the 3D games. To summarize, this game offers a lot, even just by itself and is a joy to explore (except Sandopolis Zone).
Difficulty
Just like every other Sonic game I've reviewed, it gets easier the more you play it. Sure, it's a bit difficult at first, but the more times you play it, it just gets easier. Again, the Special Stages are pretty much the most difficult aspect of this game. That is, unless it's your first time in Doomsday Zone. I can't even count the number of times I died in my first attempt. After that first time though, it's really not difficult at all. That's pretty much all I've got to say here, so let's move on.
Gameplay/Controls
Since Sonic's gameplay is exactly the same as it is in Sonic 3, I'll simply talk about Knuckles' gameplay, since it's slightly different. As Knuckles, you can do everything Sonic can do, D-pad moves left or right and let's you look up and down. You perform the spin dash by holding down and mashing any or all buttons to death (not literally) and releasing down. The difference? Knuckles cannot use the Insta-Shield or the elemental shields' double jump abilities. He can instead glide and climb walls. To glide, simply hit a button after jumping, then control Knuckles in the direction you want him to go. Also, Knuckles can't jump as high as Sonic can, but he can bust rocks simply by running into them. The game controls great and you feel like you're in complete control the entire time.
Overall, this game is simply amazing. It can be an expansion pack, it's own game, or access other games. It's basically DLC, but playable without the original content, it was ahead of its time and I think that's something Sega set out to do here. I think it plays quite nicely as a game of its own, but I think the full experience lies in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but I'll save that for the future. I give this game a 9.5 out of 10. Join me Saturday for the conclusion to Sonic 2 Month, when I review...Sonic 2! (Shocking, isn't it?) Until then, Happy Thanksgiving!

Sonic & Knuckles Review   SonicFan4Life
First of all, this game is awesome! The graphics at that time were amazing and it was very detailed. In my opinion i think Lava Reef is the best zone on here. Sure, it's difficult trying to get past those crazy toximisters and lava waterfalls, but it's worth it when you go to Act 2. Things start cooling off and the soothing music makes going through the level a breeze.
Worst zone? Personally i think sandopolis cause of the length of the zone and those badniks called Skorps. VERY annoying, i can't get past them without swinging that spike tail on me LOL. Other than that, Sonic & Knuckles is a "way past cool" game and those who never played it...GO PLAY IT NOW!!! Seriously, go click on the PLAY GAME link up there!

The Death Egg Returns!   yoshirulez!

Yes... That Old innovation... The classic sonic games everyone loves... But on a higher difficulty! What more could you ask for? Sonic & Knuckles is a sight to behold. Such Vibrant colors exploding off of the screen in a Flurry of Beautiful.... The Sweet sound of the music, That crisp, Seemingly seamless gameplay... Outstanding! Wether you're just starting out, or you're a Sonic The Hedgehog Veteran. You will have a great time playing this. also great frustration, Pain, And sadness.. This is what comes with sonic games. Also the Unique Lock on! feature is Great! You can open the top of Sonic and Knuckles and Put sonic 2 in there and you can play Knuckles The Echidna in Sonic 2! How cool is that?! I think I've rambled on long enough. so without further ado, I shall now begin the Review.

Dr.Ivo Robotnik Strikes back! The death egg has returned and its up to Sonic & Knuckles To stop it once and for all. As sonic, You must Race to get the Chaos emeralds before Robotnik! You will experience Speedy levels Tight passages and a whole heck of a lot of enemies. but just remember this and you will do just fine:Just Roll with it.

As Knuckles you must Fight to defend Knuckles's Homeworld. (Little known fact: Knuckles The Echidna's Favorite fruit is grapes!) As evil robot...dudes uh. try to blow it up or something. i never got that far with Knuckles because the difficulty is a bit too high. So i'm a bit lacking in the story

This quite fun Spinoff game is Superbly Stunning. And its really long too. or at least i think. I only got to level 3 as sonic...And couldn't Get past level 1 as Knuckles..

GRAPHICS:10. I have always enjoy sega genesis graphics. Mostly because it was my first system. I feel that we are spoiled on Really awesome graphics like CoD And Stuff. So its quite refreshing to see some old graphics for a change. Each level has great backgrounds And sprites. I mean just look at those sprites! I dont think they could do any better. Absolutely Astounding.

STORY:8. I dont know much about the story, but so far its great! And the fact that The screen doesnt just go black and youre in another level. It actually shows how you got to the level! Like when you grab on to the side of the flying battery. Absolutely no Augmentation Could improve on this. EVAH!

DIFFICULTY:9. Quite a hard game! I've played thousands of games that i can fly through. and i've been struggling with this for a while. Unlike Pokemon, As you advance through the games The difficulty gradually gets harder. I doubt anyone will get bored with this! It's too much fun! Too much too toss into a corner forever.

SOUND:3. Alot of generic Boings and crumbling sounds. Nothing really to see here. They could have done so much better. They could have been Unique. Do I use that word too much? I think its a disease or something.

MUSIC: OOOH YEAHH! 10 DIG IT WHOO!. Killer. The music on this is like no other sonic game. To be honest, I cant stand the other sonic games music. It's just awful. But this one really was good. I'm happy to say that. because i have played alot of games i was dissapointed with the music. Flying battery with that speedyness and that Ancient place with that weird creepyness. I say -ness too much. It's starting to sound like an earthbound review. lol But i gotta say i was impressed with the music on this one.

DIFFICULTY:9 It's gotta be on the top 5 Really hard games list for me. I cant even get past level 1 with knuckles! I hope people can get further than me. But theirs so many levels and the bosses are so hard.. It's great! Which is why i gave it a 9.

ADICTIVENESS:10. Oh yeah. you can bet that you wont put this down for a while. So much fun! And even if you beat it you'll wanna play it again soon. It's one of those games you cant ignore. It's there, and you know it. you won't rest till ya play it. and then you will play it some more. Trapped in an endless cycle of replays your life will be. But its an awesome replay cycle!

DEPTH:6. Hours of enjoyment. Hours of trying to get the chaos emeralds. Hours of pain and misfortune as you lose your last life at a boss and start over again. But even losing is fun! It's that awesome. And if It's that awesome you'll wanna play it forever. Trapped in an endless- nevermind. you get the idea.

So i hope you have a super mega awesome Great time playing this game, dying, replaying in an endless cycle of.. Y'know. Anyways have fun.

Sonic & Knuckles- Review   dazzsheil
I wouldn't exactly call Sonic & Knuckles "Sonic 4" per say but a very solid addition to the series. It has an interesting plot, great cutscenes, superb graphics and amazing sound! Released in late 1994 for the SEGA Mega Drive, Sonic & Knuckles is basically Sonic 3: Episode II. It continues after Sonic 3's ending which asked us many questions like, why is Floating Island still on the ground and why are there some areas of the levels that Sonic or Tails can't get into? Well, Sonic and Knuckles answers those questions (Note, this is a review of SONIC & KNUCKLES, not SONIC 3 & KNUCKLES or KNUCKLES IN SONIC 2, this is a review of the stand alone game with the funky cartridge with "New Lock-On technology!!".)
The control for S&K Is typical Sonic really. Run is D-Pad, Jump is A, Spin Dashing is A+Down but the control is slightly altered when you play as Knuckles the Echidna. Knux (as I Shall call him) can glide by pressing jump in mid-air and can also climb on walls which answers the question why Sonic or Tails couldn't get to some of the areas in the levels.
S&K has the exact same graphics as in Sonic 3, so all there is really is new levels, which look really good and two of these levels are re-used in the Anniversary title, Sonic Generations for PS3/360/PC/3DS. I really like the detail in some of the levels, which is why I think S&K is the best looking old-school Sonic game by far, even better than Knuckles Chaotix on the 32X.
The sound is top-notch. Howard Drossin and Jun Senoue have composed what is probably the best soundtrack on the SEGA Mega Drive. Sky Sanctuary Zone, Mushroom Hill Zone and OF COURSE the Doomsday Zone are all the real standouts here, but it's an overall great soundtrack.
Story-time guys, so tuck in. let's start with Sonic's story, which begins immediately after Sonic 3.
The Death Egg has crashed but Floating Island is still grounded, landing in a volcanic crater. Sonic and Tails rush their way out of the Launch Base and head towards Mushroom Hill to see if Robotnik survived the crash. Sonic whilst seeking Robotnik is looking for the Chaos Emeralds (or Super Emeralds if you already got all 7 Chaos Emeralds) and once again begins conflicting with Knux who believes he is trying to steal them...again. Robotnil amazingly survived the Death Egg's fall, and reveals his true plan: Steal the Master Emerald, the key to Floating Islands.....floatiness. Realizing he was tricked, Knux decides to help Sonic and Tails. After getting through and Destroying the Death Egg, Sonic has one more thing left to do; finish Robotnik off and take back the Master Emerald. After becoming Super, Sonic has a one on one battle in the Doomsday Zone with his nemesis, which he defeats and Floating Island floats again thanks to the power of the Master Emerald.
Now Knuckles story.
Our friend Kucx was sleeping one day when all of a sudden his peaceful life is disrupted by one of Robotnik's last robots (which means this story must take place after Sonic's) called Egg-Robo. After chasing the Egg-Robo, Knux encounters Mecha-Sonic who appears out of nowhere and destroys the Egg-Robo. Mecha-Sonic steals the Master Emerald but before he can leave Floating Island, Knux shows him whos boss and returns the Emerald back to it's pedestal.
Really addicting I must say, can play it over and over again, and with Lock-On, it just makes it even more enjoyable.
Not too hard, but quite challenging near the end.

Part two of a trilogy or a tetralogy?   becerra95
Part two of the third installment of the game or the fourth game of this tetralogy. However you look at it this is the end of the sonic series for the genesis, kinda (if you don’t count Sonic 3D Blast but I felt like it’s better suited for Saturn). It’s kind of funny how I owned this game before owning the Sonic 3 and I played it quite a bit. What’s neat about this game is the secrets it has hidden within the lock on technology. This is Sonic & Knuckles (Sonic 3 and Knuckles if a complete game but refer to my previous review for sonic 3)
Story : 8
Immediately after the events of Sonic 3, the death egg falls down once more and crashes back to the floating island. Sonic, fearing about Dr. Robotnik grabbing the emeralds and the Master emerald, the energy source that keeps the island floating, he embarks on a new adventure to find the emeralds and defeat Eggman for the final time. In his way is Knuckles the Echidna who will attack all invaders who trespass this island, targeting the emeralds. Will Sonic be successful or will the scuffles between the him and Knuckles allow Robotnik to succeed?
The story is a great continuation of the first half of the Sonic 3 storyline. Dr. Robotnik still bent on his plans of getting the emeralds, you have a choice between Sonic or Knuckles to see how the story unfolds between the two. This is how you end a series for the Genesis.
And 8 out of 10
Graphics: 8
The graphics aren’t changed at all considering it was meant to be one game at the time with Sonic 3. They’re still beautiful to look at no doubt, and the scenery changing for each zone is still pretty cool to watch as the game progresses. The fluidity of the characters haven’t been changed either and the models are basically the same as the previous title. Special stages and bonus stages are the same and honestly, there’s not much to say that I haven’t said about Sonic 3. I wouldn’t say reused assets… tho at least make it a little more pizzazz to keep it a little fresh
And 8 out of 10.
Sound: 8
The soundtrack of the music is pretty good but not as memorable as the first half of the game (Sonic 3). They represent the stages well and they continue the trend of spicing up or remixing the songs for each act. The issues from the previous title persists here with some minor cut off audio and music when being overlapped by other sound effects or enemies. Spin dash still gets a bit of a cut off at times and the audio still has some scratchy spots here and there. I mean overall it’s still pretty good though not much has change.
An 8 out of 10
Depth: 9
The story continues on with the game, able to choose between Sonic or Knuckles, each with their own paths to go between each zone and finding ways to achieve their goals. It lacks content on its own but there’s something special about this game. It features a lock on technology that when paired with Sonic 3, it creates the full game to its original purpose. Not only you’re able to play the full story with Sonic, but Tails is back and you can now choose Knuckles to play in Sonic 3 zones and find new pathways and secrets within the games. The replay ability is enhanced by a lot and it is remarkable how complete the game feels when the two cartridges combine together.
What makes it better for the story is that it can come with different endings whether or not you collected every emerald in the game. It gives you the final boss if super sonic (tails or knuckles) and it gives you a reason to play the game again if you haven’t collected all the emeralds yet.
That’s not all though, when connected to Sonic the Hedgehog 2, you have the ability to play Knuckles in the game, going through the stages of Sonic 2 as the red echidna. That’s pretty amazing knowing that this is a possibility that I wouldn’t have dreamed of. One trick of this lock on technology is that when you put on a game that isn’t Sonic 2 or 3, you get a “No Way!” On the screen but by pressing A, B, C buttons you get access to the special stages of the blue spheres. There’s an endless combination of the mode and with Sonic 1 you get access to every one. It’s probably impossible to play every level since there’s so many endless possibilities for the game but this is rather the most impressive hidden feature that they had.
A 9 out of 10
Addictive : 8
The game is pretty addicting when continuing the storyline. It has so much to offer, especially the blue spheres mode with the lock on technology feature. Honestly I feel like that’s the main thing that’ll get me playing for hours on end since it’s an endless supply and I do like puzzles (I don’t know if considered a puzzle but yeah). When combined with Sonic 3 it gives you more options, as stated on the “Depth” section of the review. I mean there’s really not much to talk about in terms of addictive that I haven’t said in depth so.
8 out of 10
Difficulty : 6
The game itself isn’t that difficult, able to zip through levels with ease. I mean yeah it brings back obstacles (sandopolis zone turning on lights) that hinders speed and such but I wouldn’t say it is as bad as the first Sonic the Hedgehog game. Getting the chaos emeralds are the challenge, with some needing trial and error to get the blue spheres and obtaining the emeralds. Enemy placements aren’t that bad and like the other titles, it’s more of a trial and error game. It’s very generous giving you extra lives by collecting 100 rings, bonus games and 1 up boxes and getting continues aren’t that bad collecting rings in special stages. Controls are easy to maneuver also, nothing feels stiff or tanky so I would say the game is fairly easy with some few challenges.
It’s a 6 out of 10
Sonic and Knuckles was meant to be as one game with Sonic 3, but due to time constraints they had to break it up as two games and I felt like it was a smart move, knowing now how much content the lock on technology gives when connecting to sonic 2 or 3, or blue spheres when connecting to Sonic 1. This is truly a great ending to a series for the Genesis and it’s a bit sad we don’t see a main line sonic game until the Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure. I mean yeah there’s Sonic 3D blast and Sonic R… both decent games but I felt like were spin-offs to the main series. Again, is this a trilogy with a two part third game or a tetralogy? Either way, it’s a fun experience for me to play this game and honestly the blue spheres kept me going back trying to see how much I can beat but it’ll be nearly impossible to get every single one of them. For this review, here is my rating and the review average rating based on my scores.

Sonic and Knuckles review :)   G@mehe@d
  • Sonic and Knuckles was released in 1994 for the Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive. The game had "lock on technology, enabling you to play as knuckles in Sonic 2. When Sonic 3 is locked on, you can play full 32 meg game, that SEGA was originally going to make. Then they realized the cost of manufacturing the cartridge and split the game in two.
  • The story takes off where the Death Egg failed to launch after the final fight in Sonic 3. So Robotnik is planning on stealing the master emerald without Knuckles knowing. Sonic however is trying to rise Angel Island, because if you didn't notice the island used to float. Knuckles still thinks that Sonic is the villain, so Sonic still has to deal with Knuckles.
  • The graphics are some of the best you'll see on the Genesis. With detailed characters and sprites, creative levels and enemies, plus crisp visuals. Make this game one of the most graphically advanced games on the Genesis.
  • The music isn't as good as the other Sonic games. The music however sounds more advanced than the previous Sonic games. There is also all the original sound effects and such.
Like Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles isn't as addicting as Sonic 1 and 2. The
ability to play as knuckles in Sonic  2 and the ability to play Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles makes the game a little more addicting than Sonic 3.
If you count the lock on feature this game has a lot to offer. Especially if you have Sonic 3 locked on. The game it self has only has 13 levels :(. There are two characters to choose from, Sonic and Knuckles. Each character has it's advantages and disadvantages. For instance if you play as Sonic, you can jump higher, run faster, and play more levels. If you play as Knuckles, you can glide, climb walls, and break through certain barriers that Sonic can't break. You'll have the disadvantage of fewer levels, but there's longer levels.
I found the game just as hard as the previous Sonic titles.
    OVER ALL RATING 9

Sonic & Knuckles: A Awesome Game   SonicFan2013
Gooooood Afternoon Vizzed! Today's review is on Sonic & Knuckles. It has been created in 1994 To extend the game Sonic The Hedgehog 3. This was a great and awesome game. That is why my overall rating is another 10. Did I get a new world record for rating games a 10? It is 3 in a row. Sonic CD, Super Mario Bros 3, Now Sonic & Knuckles! There are two playable characters. Sonic and Knuckles. I wished they made Sonic And Shadow. Well, That was kinda Sonic Adventure 2, but you know what I mean. Now, I have to stop with this goofiness and get on with the review. The graphics was a 10. The game had the best graphics out of all the genesis sonic games. The game had the same graphics as Sonic 3. The sound was another 10. It has awesome music that I'll always remember. My favorite music is The final boss music and Doomsday Zone Music. Addictiveness was an 6. I might play this again. I'm not 100% sure about it. It is a great game but not as good as Super Mario Bros. 3. The Story is the number you need to guess that Sonic runs like in Sonic CD. Sonic uses the figure eight run in Sonic CD, so you might be guessing an 8. You are wrong! Just playing! It is an 8. Ha! Now time to tell the story. There are two stories. Sonic's & Knuckle's story. I'll tell Sonic's first. Dr.Robotnik is trying to relaunch the Death Egg. How many times has he done this already? 2 times? He should know already. Sonic will always foil Robotnik's plans. Sorry, I'll continue the story. Sonic has to try to stop him. But Knuckles was in his way. Shouldn't Knuckles know not to trust Robotnik. Then, Knuckles Gets tricked again in Sonic Adventure And Sonic X. Sorry again, I'll go back to the true story. At Hidden Palace Zone, Knuckles thinks Sonic wants to steal the Master Emerald, so he wants to fight Sonic and "Stop him" once and for all. Sonic VS Knuckles, who will win? Well, Sonic does of course. Then, Robotnik comes out of nowhere to steal the Master Emerald. Knuckles got Tricked!!! THIS IS SO SURPIRSIIIIING! Aaaand no it's not. He gets tricked 2 times in games, 4 Times on TV, and 1 time in comics. He always gets tricked by Robotnik, even if he knows he is evil. Knuckles might actually be the dumbest in the game. Knuckles tries to stop Robotnik from achieving the Master Emerald. But, Knuckles was too worn out from the last fight with Sonic, so with one electric shock, Robotnik defeats Knuckles. Now, Robotnik has the key to relaunching the Death Egg, The Master Emerald. Robotnik wins! Not! Sonic still has time to destroy the Death Egg for good. Knuckles helps take Sonic to Sky Sanctuary, the level which also is in Sonic Generations. After that, Sonic meets Mecha Sonic. DUN DUUUUN! Well, Sonic destroys him and got on the Death Egg before its launch to space. Later on Sonic fights the final boss after act 1 and 2 of the death egg. On Phase 2 of the battle, Robotnik uses the master emerald to try and destroy Sonic. After awhile, Sonic finally destroys Robotnik's robot. The Death Egg is getting destroyed! But Robotnik still has the Master Emerald. So, Sonic chases him down while the Death Egg is getting destroyed! Crazy, huh. He is really sacrificing himself to get the Master Emerald back from Robotnik. Knuckles has to trust Sonic now. Sonic defeats Robotnik and the Death Egg finally gets destroyed! But, Robotnik still retrieves the Master Emerald. So, with all the Chaos Emeralds Sonic found in the Special Stages throughout the adventure, Sonic transforms to Super Sonic and flies out to Doomsday to finally stop Robotnik and retrieve the Master Emerald once and for all. Super Sonic Battles a Battleship and the true Final Boss and after defeating both, he had finally retrieved the Master Emerald and with the help of Tails had brought the Master Emerald back to Angel Island from Sonic 3. Angel Island went up to the sky again! When Knuckles sees them, he smiles because he is happy. And Sonic's Story ends. Now for Knuckles story! Knuckles is sleeping peacefully at Mushroom Hill Zone. Until, one of Robotnik's robots from sky sanctuary comes and tries to shoot Knuckles. So Knuckles gets mad and starts chasing him down. They had been going til Knuckles had made it to Sky Sanctuary. Does Knuckles ever get tired of chasing him for that long? Then, The robot introduces Knuckles to Mecha Sonic! When Mecha Sonic tried to use a spin dash to get Knuckles, Knuckles dodge the attack and Mecha Sonic destroys the robot instead. Now the never before seen fight! Knuckles VS Mecha Sonic! Who will win? Knuckles does. He defeated Mecha Sonic! But somehow Mecha Sonic Turns back on and goes to the Master Emerald to get its power and becomes Super Mecha Sonic. Now who will win? Knuckles still wins it! But then, the platform gets destroyed. But, because of the Chaos Emeralds Knuckles found throughout the adventure, Knuckles transform to Hyper Knuckles and retrieves the Master Emerald before it got to the wrong hands. Sonic got the X-Tornado and got him. So, Sonic took Knuckles back to Angel Island so Knuckles can get to stay floating. And that's the end of Knuckles Story. The stories took up most of the review! Lets get to the depth of the game before this review is a giant one! The Depth has to be a 7. It did took up alot of space. But, it is a short game. But, I still love it! Difficulty is a 5. It is an easy game but I got stuck on Death Egg for awhile. That is why it is a 5. Now it is time to go wrap this review up! I hope everyone likes it! Thanks for reading and read all of my other reviews and the next ones. Mario and I says, " See you next time."
