Shinobi Review by: gamerforlifefor.. - 8.5/10

The G.G. Shinobi
In 1991, Sega decided that they would make a Shinobi game for a handheld console for the 1st time. That game was Shinobi for the Game Gear, also known as The G.G. Shinobi. Not only is it one of the best Shinobi games I've ever played, but it's also one of the best Game Gear games I've ever played as well. Why do I say this? Well, I'll explain by making this review.

Graphics: 9/10 The G.G. Shinobi is one of the more visually appealing games on the game gear. The levels themselves look really good and along with the excellent character designs, this game shows what the Game Gear is capable of graphically. This game along with Sonic Triple Trouble are the 2 best examples of how good Game Gear games can look. For these reasons, I'm giving the graphics for The G.G. Shinobi a 9.

Sound: 9/10 The G.G. Shinobi has one of the best soundtracks you'll hear in a game gear game. This game along with Sonic Triple Trouble are the 2 Game Gear games that truly showcase what the system is capable of in the sound category. Some of the music in this game are 8 bit remixes of music in The Revenge of Shinobi for the Sega Genesis such as the main boss theme. The whole soundtrack in The G.G. Shinobi is really good, though Sonic Triple Trouble is slightly better. For these reasons, I'm giving the sound a 9.

Addictiveness: 10/10 The G.G. Shinobi is one of the most entertaining games on the Game Gear. It also happens to be very unique compared to other games in the Shinobi series. One reason for this is because instead of there just being one ninja to play as, there are a total of 5 different ninjas, each has their own weapon. The Red Ninja uses a sword, the Pink Ninja uses bombs, the Yellow Ninja uses a projectile attack, the Green Ninja throws shurikens, and the Blue Ninja uses a grappling attack. These 5 ninjas offer unique gameplay from other Shinobi games, which makes this game even more fun than it already is. The boss fights are also very entertaining. Since the gameplay is so different from other games in the series, I'm giving the addictiveness for this game a 10.

Story: 5/10 In Shinobi for the Game Gear, you start out as Joe Musashi, aka the Red Ninja, and you must find and save the other ninjas, who have been put under mind control. Once you save all 4 of the other ninjas, you must stop the villain in Neo City. Overall, this game has a very mediocre story, so I'm giving this category a 5.

Depth: 4/10 Shinobi for the game gear doesn't have very many levels, even for a Game Gear game. There are only a total of 5 levels in the game and there aren't a lot of bosses either, so this game doesn't have a whole lot of depth. The only reason this game could take awhile to beat is because of how hard it can be. Since The G.G. Shinobi doesn't have a lot of depth, I'm giving this category a 4.

Difficulty: 8/10 If you're looking for a tough Game Gear game to play, then Shinobi's the game for you. Some of the enemies and bosses can be tough to beat, plus you don't have a whole lot of health, and some of the levels are long so you must be careful not to get hurt. Overall, Shinobi is one of the tougher games you'll find on the Game Gear, so I'm giving the Difficulty an 8.

Overall Score: 8.5/10 The G.G. Shinobi is one of the funnest Game Gear games I've ever played. It has really good graphics for a Game Gear game, it has a great soundtrack, unique gameplay, and it provides a good challenge. Unfortunately though, even for a Game Gear game, there aren't enough levels to keep you entertained for long. I would've given this game a 9 if it weren't for the lack of levels, but instead, I'm giving Shinobi for the Game Gear an 8.5/10. It's a really fun game that all Shinobi fans should try out.

A solidly crafted, yet diffacult platformer. Differwnt to the other lower rated shinboi for the game that uses the same picture >_>
