Rampart Review
Rampart is a unique and simple strategy game. Basically, you own a kingdom, which you are able to place, and you earn cannons. These cannons you use to fire at incoming ships who fire back. After each round you have the ability to repair, build and create more cannons depending on how quickly you build over other castles in the land. Unfortunately, the game is rather simple and there isn't too much complexity but it is a challenge to play.

Overall: 4
This is rather a weak game. Of course it was a SNES game, but there was much more that could be added to a game like this even at the time of creation. Unfortunately, the game can be addictive but not for long and even if you do play it, you don't play it for long. I grew up with this on my SNES, so I was very familiar with it. There isn't much to say with a game that has so little to offer.

Graphics: 3
The game is played in DOS, as far as I know. There isn't anything exciting about looking at this game or watching it be played. With how the graphics were developed, they completely hindered the already low quality of the game.

Sound: 4
Again, nothing special. It isn't the most annoying set of sounds you'll ever hear. Nothing in particular to point out either.

Addictiveness: 5
Rampart can be sometimes addictive. When you're on a roll it can be fun, otherwise, most of the time it's not. It wouldn't surprise me if you tried this game and never picked it up again because it's really not something you'd expect players to par-take in often. I gave this game a generous 5, let that be known.

Story: 1
There is no story. You go from level to level battling an onslaught of enemy ships to the point where it's just boring anyway. Just assume there is a story and that there are foreign invaders trying to conquer your lands.

Depth: 5
It's really not even that in depth. The game is simple.. blast and build and that's all. Strategy itself is at mercy in this game. As a strategist, you may enjoy the simplicity of a game like this, but overall the strategy brought in this game is embarrassing to say the least. The most in-depth aspect of this game is that you can choose 2 game modes "Normal" and "Super". When playing in "Super" the area which you fire in is huge. That also offers bosses, challenges and greedy rounds.

Difficulty: 10
What makes this game so difficult is having so many ships to sink in such a short time limit. On larger maps, having 1 or 2 ships spawn in 2 opposite corners keeps you at a stalemate. To add to the challenge, you have to build your walls in-between enemy troops, water, castles, fires, rocks and more. The objective is to surround a castle and with each castle you surround, you earn cannons that you can place. The more cannons you have (inside your walls) the more you have to shoot with. To add to the frustration.. enemy troops will swarm from ships that are stationed near land. On top of that, if they reach the castles, you risk losing the castle. I'm also going to add that your castle walls will also be random shapes and sizes. You never know what you have next so making plans is quite difficult and sometimes you don't get the piece you need in time to finish your castle. Lastly, your cannons are directly controlled by you. They do not fire on their own. This game is one of the most challenging games I've ever played, especially if you're trying to play the game without using the passwords to get back up to where you last left off.

Overall, the game is not really worth playing unless you're out for a challenge. It has a few moments that keep you playing, but in the end it's really a waste of time. Even this review is a waste of time because not many play this game. I think 4/10 is very generous even for a game that has so little to offer. It's near impossible to reach the end without using the passwords. If you do play this game, I wish you good luck because you will definitely need it!
