Quake 64 is one of those games that inflict fear in the heart of humanity.
The story is that a being called Quake has invaded earth,and everyone at your base has been wiped out,except you. You are earth's last hope. You need to fight hordes of horrific creatures,bypass deadly traps,and finally make your way into Quake's lair.
This game has a dark atmosphere,and it has hi-tech weapons,but it actually doesn't feels like a modern shooter. It has innovative features,like,for example,2 weapons can share the same ammunition. The shotgun deals damage,but the Super Shotgun deals double damage,at the cost of firing two shells at once. There are other weapons that work like this too.
The game is divided into episodes,and each episode is composed of various levels and challenges you have to face. Once you finish those,you can then proceed to choose your next episode. The game starts rather easy,but then becomes really dangereous. You will have to use all of your weapons and skills in order to survive. A Slipgate indicates the end of a level,so you better make sure that you've explored all secrets and killed all enemies.
There is also Multiplayer.The Multiplayer is addicting and full of features,and allows you to expand your Quake experience. Unlike most games,this is a fast-paced shooter with fixed amounts of health. It's not like Call of Duty,where you move slowly. You won't need any kind of strategy with Quake,you only need two hands and fast reflexes.Once you get shot,you better pick up some Health,because most things here will kill you very quickly. Episode 1 is a test to see whether or not you are capable of playing Quake.Here are two secrets for you guys to use :
1-After you acquire the Rocket Launcher,you can use a nifty trick in order to climb up high places.First,aim at the ground.Jump,then shoot.You will take some damage,but the explosion will propulse you into the air,much higher than usual.
2-When you're in the lobby,if you wanna play somenthing harder than "hard" difficulty,you'll have to find a secret path.There is a place in the Lobby that is full of water.It's just like the water is suspended in the air.Look down and you will see a place where you can land after you fall through the water.If you can manage to land on top of said place,you will be able to follow a path that will lead you to the "Nightmare" difficulty.
Quake 64 is an amazing game,but it is also quite hard,even on the easiest difficulties. Give it a try if you're feeling brave.
