The game that changed my life   gamerforlifefor..
If someone would come up and ask me, "what made you become a gamer for life?" I would say the Pokemon series made me the gamer that I am today. Like just about every other kid in the world at the time, I couldn't get enough of pokemon. I liked the anime and I thought the trading card game was okay, but I absolutely loved the games. Because of Pokemon, I not only love playing video games, but I also can't get enough of JRPGs. If it hadn't been for Pokemon, I know I wouldn't be the same person I am today. Thank You Gamefreak!!!
Anyway, back then there were only 2 games to choose from: Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. They were pretty much the same game except there were certain pokemon that would only appear in 1 of the versions, and if you wanted the pokemon that didn't appear in your game, you'd have to trade with someone else. I decided that I wanted Pokemon Red because I much preferred the cover of red than blue. (CHARIZARD FTW!) Back then, that game was by far my favorite, and I had plenty of other games such as Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, for the N64 and Crash Bandicoot for the PS1. Now that I'm older though, I see that those 3 games I just mentioned are better games than Pokemon Red. I still love Pokemon Red though, and now I'm going to review it, enjoy!
Graphics: 8/10 Visually, Pokemon Red is one of the better looking games for the game boy. The character sprites look great, the pokemon themselves looked nice for the time, though there were a few pokemon that I feel didn't look appealing at all compared to the trading cards such as geodude. Also the towns, cities, and caves look very good as well. For these reasons I'm giving the graphics an 8.
Sound: 10/10 Out of all the gameboy games I've played, Pokemon Red has by far the best soundtrack I've ever heard on the system. Everything from the gym leader theme to the creepy lavender town theme is stunning for a gameboy game. All JRPGs need a great soundtrack, and Pokemon Red has that. Since this soundtrack is the best that the original gameboy had to offer, I'm definitely giving the sound a 10.
Addictiveness: 10/10 Back in 1998, few games could even come close to being as addictive as Pokemon, which is a huge reason why it was so successful. At that time, there was no other game out there that had quite as much customization as Pokemon Red. There are a total of 151 pokemon for you to catch, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, which can make choosing your team of 6 a tough, yet exciting decision, and also it gives you a big reason to play the game multiple times. The game also has a great story, a fantastic soundtrack, and plenty of entertaining battles to keep you entertained for a long time. Also the ability to trade and with friends gave Pokemon Red and Blue even more addictiveness than it already had. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness a 10!
Story: 8/10 This game has you play as Red, a 10 year old boy who wants to go on a pokemon journey and become a pokemon master. To help him accomplish this, you must catch and train pokemon, defeat gym leaders, and take on the pokemon league before your rival. Along the way, you'll take on a fiendish group called Team Rocket, an evil organization that steal and exploit pokemon just so they can make money. They view pokemon as tools to help them achieve their goals. So while you're trying to earn badges and catch pokemon, you're also trying to stop Team Rocket, and then finally challenge the pokemon league and try to become the champion. The story is very good, especially for a gameboy game. I'm giving the story an 8 because there are better storylines out there.
Depth: 8/10 When it comes to gameboy games, Pokemon Red has the most to do. There's 8 gym leaders to battle, the pokemon league to conquer, a pokedex to complete, and lots of trainers to battle. The only thing I wish Game Freak could've done was possibly add a little bit more post game content. I know that this was the 1st game in the series and it was on the original gameboy, but it still would've been nice to have a little bit more to do than go to cerulean cave. But since there aren't very many gameboy games with as much depth as Pokemon Red, I'm giving the depth an 8.
Difficulty: 5/10 As a little kid, I thought that pokemon was a very tough game. Now that I'm much older and more experienced at gaming, I see that it isn't super difficult. There are some battles that could give experienced gamers some trouble, but as long as you know what you're doing, this game shouldn't give you a lot of trouble. Each gym leader has 1 specific type they specialize in, and as long as you have at least 1 type that can take down that type, you should be fine as long as your pokemon is at a high enough level. Even trainers who have multiple types shouldn't be too hard as long as you have a diverse party. Because the game isn't super difficult, I'm giving this category a 5.
Overall Score: 9/10 There's a big reason why Pokemon Red (and Blue) was such a cultural phenomenon. It's easily one of the most addicting games of the 90s. It has an amazing soundtrack, a great storyline, and lots of pokemon to catch. Whether you want to have a Pikachu or something with more power such as a Charizard, you'll still have a great experience with the game either way. Whether or not you're new to the series, or if you love JRPGs, Pokemon Red is a must play. My final Score for this game is a 9.

Pokemon Red: The Beginning of the Pokemon Era   pacman1755
Pokemon Red. A game that really started the Pokemon business in its variety in games such as Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, and White! Above all of them, Pokemon Red was probably the beginning of the era of Pokemon. Let's get to reviewing, shall we? Oh, I'll bold the important points in the rating I give. Other stuff is more detail or me rambling about it. Fair warning :P
DIFFICULTY: 7
The game is pretty tough. I had quite some trouble beating a few people in the game, but this game is basically trial and error. It has that RPG feel to it, you need to go around and level your Pokemon up and do whatever it takes to get them to the very best and even evolve to even more Powerful Pokemon! Basically, the Difficulty all depends on how you level your Pokemon up. The less you level up Pokemon, the more of a challenge it is.
DEPTH: 8
The depth of the game is very long, if you ask me. It doesn't seem that long at a first glance, but you haven't seen anything yet. Oh no no no, you are in for a surprise on what you got to do to COMPLETELY beat the game. To beat the game 100%, you need to beat the elite Four, Team Rocket, and your rival. While you are at it, you need to explore the world collecting ALL the pokemon!. That takes FOREVER, I tell you that much. I swear it took me weeks to beat the game just catching the Pokemon alone! It pays off afterwards though. Becoming the ultimate Pokemon master is a great achievement.
STORY: 4
There isn't any real story to the game. The main point is you are a 10 year old kid that has decided to become a Pokemon Trainer! So your next door neighbor, Prof. Oak, decides to help you along the way to start your adventure off with 3 starter choices. While his Grandson wants to be a Trainer too. And challenges you to become the best ever. After you beat your rival, Oak says you are on your own for now. His dream is to catch every Pokemon in existance, all 151 of them. He's too old to do that now, so he's depending on you to do the rest.
ADDICTIVENESS: 10!
The game is flawless about the gameplay, the game is so addicting, it will keep you determined to play the game for a very long time until you catch them all. I swear the game is that addicting. I remember the first time I played this, I wasn't that big of a Pokemon fanatic back then, but looking back to then and the first time I played it, I realized what a dramatic change of opinion about the game series I made about Pokemon is amazing. I love it when I realized it, and I still do today. :)
SOUND: 9
The sound is nearly flawless, the game's effects to hits, scratches, even the Pokemon noises are amazing! Even the music is legendary. For an 8 bit genre, it really is impressive. All of the other series on Gameboy had okay sound, and FX, but this game has impressed the hell out of me.
GRAPHICS: 7
The graphics for the game are mediocre at best really. Kind of disappointing really. The game in graphics are okay. The effects after a hit are what you expect from an 8 bit game, some flashing, maybe an effect there, but overall, nothing special. Just like the map outside of battle, mediocre 8 bit design. Not the worst, but its up to potential in the 8 bit era. So its alright.
OVERALL: 9.6
Its pretty good, I enjoy the heck out of it, there is a lot to do, and a lot of impressive things inside the game. The game had everything, Sound, Addictiveness, Depth, and Difficulty. Its what a real gamer really liked. Not much story to talk about, but it can be brushed aside since its not THAT important. Graphics were okay for an 8 bit game. Nothing I'm disappointed about.
Overall, 9.6 is my final Rating.
Do I recommend playing it: Yeah!
This game doesn't disappoint at all. So I recommend you going to the RGR and play it now if you haven't.
Thanks for reading.

Pokemon Red   Redrunelord
Typically in a generation of Pokémon games, three main titles are released. One would have the initial two titles released alongside each other as a pair with a third game following. The third game is usually the same game as the other two with various revisions, such as different Pokémon placement, some moved bosses, changed dialogue etc. This formula does not ring true with the first generation, however. Instead, while the two games released alongside each other (Red and Green in Japan, Red and Blue outside of Japan) are the same but for minor Pokémon placements, Pokémon Yellow offered a different story-line and game play style as it followed the anime. As a result, if someone was to desire a conventional Pokémon game from the first generation for their collection, then Pokémon Yellow would not likely fit the requirements as the refinements made were game changing. Is blue or red worth revisiting beyond nostalgic musings, and if so which game?
To answer the latter question, it doesn't completely matter which one beyond what little Pokémon differences there are and that they got a different overall lens tone. In Pokémon Red, red is the dominant colouration depending on the handheld it's played on or in some versions (like the emulators on Vizzed) black and white. A translated version of Green would later be found online but the translations, unlike for Red and the remade Blue, were extremely poor and the sprites can range in quality so that version is not generally recommended. Now, what of Red? Was Red a good game, or was it over-hyped and overrated in subsequent years of it's release? For the purposes of this documentation it will almost be perfectly applicable to Pokémon Blue so should one find Pokémon Blue available for sale and wondering whether or not to purchase, then read onwards.
To those unfamiliar with the series, Pokémon is about catching these wild creatures known as Pokémon and raising them in teams for battle and (later) contests. Teams of up to 6 will be constructed of Pokémon caught from the wild, or traded/given to the player. They would have to be raised by battling wild Pokémon or other trainers, with he player eventually hoping to become the champion. Yet are the hours and trudging along to raise the team worthwhile?
The soundtrack is considered a memorable one and one that would be rather recognizable in subsequent years, but is this a good thing? This game's soundtrack is relatively diverse encompassing different tunes, but the majority tend to take on a more upbeat feel. For the system that this game was released on, the actual music is fairly high quality. It may not necessarily hold up as well over 15 years later, but those with nostalgic memories flooding from the deepest cores of their brain won't mind: it isn't a mish-mash of random 8 bit audio. The biggest issue with the music itself is the bicycle music: it never stops. Whenever one should decide to speed their journey up, the music starts to play...and NEVER stops! If one should enter an area that has a music theme they like, they instead get the bicycle theme. Admittedly, this is not a problem if someone should enjoy the bicycle theme, as music is subjective, but the approach in later games where entering a new area changes the music is a much desired fix (whether a bug fix or simply a change in direction). The sound effects varies from effective to just meh...the effects used for the poke ball is excellent as is the healing at Pokémon centers. Like with most games with cartridges instead of CDs or beyond, the effects can grow annoying to gamers accustomed to CD quality audio but for the game boy, it is sufficient.
Visually, a simplistic but functional game bearing a resemblance to Final Fantasy. Since it isn't possible to mention the visuals without talking about the game play, as each visual style has their own game play aspects associated with them, this segment will also talk about the basic game play mechanics. The three big styles are the character adventure mode, the battles and Pokedex views, and the various systems like the inventory and PCs.
The adventure mode is basically where the player controls their trainer and travels across the region, Kanto. This style is most reminiscent of the original Final Fantasy in that it is a birds eye view, which makes sense seeing that Nintendo published this title. The big difference is that instead of icons on a map for towns, the player actually enters the town as they would in real life (unless using a map or flying). The scale isn't perfect by any means but it don't need to be, especially on a game boy cartridge. This is where the player would travel from town to town, cave to cave, building to build etc. In caves, tall grass, or on water is where Pokémon will naturally "spawn" and can be battled and caught. Considering the limits of the handheld and what needed to be done, this aspect works well enough for the most part. A lot of strategy is done this way, as teams would be customized and items bought outside of battle. The actual customization, however, actually is done through the text.
The majority of the applications where teams and items would be tended to are purely text based. The text and, technically the interface can be described as...exceptionally cluttered and clunky to say the least. While some of the criticisms is due to it being among the first games in the series can theoretically be void, it still deserves criticism. The TM and HM (both are items that can be used to teach Pokémon moves) names in particular is annoying as instead of clearly being labelled, they are simply called "TM 14" or similar. Admittedly, since there are only five HM (repeating items, the moves taught are permanent) items, they can be memorized easily enough but there are 50 TM moves...to add further insult to injury of having to sort through them all, they are almost guaranteed to take up a lot of inventory space and must be deposited in the PC. The PC itself is also cluttered and time consuming to sort through, as there is no means to organize items properly unless done manually with the select button. The Pokémon storage admittedly is better, as there are boxes of Twenty but as it is also purely text based with minimal organizational capacities it also grows cluttered as the capacity increases. Furthermore, there is little indication of when a box starts to fill up making it more frustrating.
What of the battles and the visuals associated with them? When a battle starts, sprites of each Pokémon will appear and they would use a basic battle command menu: attack (with one of up to four moves), use an item, look or switch to another Pokémon, or try to run away (in trainer battles this isn't possible). This formula would largely stay unchanged except for enhanced visuals and animation. The images aren't fantastic but again considering the limited hardware capabilities, they are still quite nice. The animation is very basic but it doesn't need to be that elaborate for what the game is trying to accomplish.
The two big game play goals are battling to build a strong team to beat all opposing trainers, and to collect all 150 Pokémon (152 if one counts Mew and Missingno). In battling, there is a fair variety of Pokémon and the actual system itself works quite well. The actual mechanics are good and when in an actual challenge or an important battle, this burn based system could easily be a lot of fun. However...it has two key flaws. The first of which is simply that the training in this game simply to grow stronger can easily grow rather dull, repetitive and simply boring. The other flaw is that it is impossible to re challenge defeated trainers or gym leaders severely reducing the replay value of the game (it is simply rubbing salt into the wound when one person wishes to build a new team but have to delete their level 90 team simply because the other trainers refuses to play against one again). This would be alleviated in the second and third generations with re challenging players and gym leaders being added respectively, but here...it is non-existent.
Gathering all 150 Pokémon has always been a huge challenge for the time and to this day remains a personal goal of many Pokémon collectors, especially people only just beginning to enjoy the series. It is not supposed to be easy, which is perfectly fine (who would want such a goal to be a cakewalk anyways?) but one aspect brings the whole experience down...
The trading system.
If it has been said once, it has been said many times: This is a royal pain to the quotidian gamer. The immense annoyances of trying to accumulate all 150 Pokémon without a friend is evident like in all other games. Fortunately, since it is the first generation the numbers of necessary Pokémon are limited (only around 15 of the 150 are necessary to have another game for) but it still does not alleviate the irritations caused to players without a friend who would trade with or another handheld readily available with another game.
The storyline is kept rather vague in many regards, but some aspects are recurring. For instance, the concept of a rival continuously beating the player is a recurring plot point and the fact that a gang is trying to take over, while the means is cliché and potentially moronic, is also present. For the most part, however, the story is kept rather vague...and this is a good choice in this type of rpg adventure game. The reason is that these are the types of games players will pick up because they want to put themselves in another person's shoes and craft their own story around the world created: Pokémon allows that to be done.
The game itself is one of those games that the first play-through can very easily be challenging but once the player knows exactly what is coming and/or how to handle every single situation (knowing the elemental tables to perfection for instance)...the challenge is largely lost. The only way then to maintain a true sense of challenge is set those self-imposed challenges like the nuzlocke game-play mode. The real challenge in the vanilla game in the long run is actually in multiplayer against other humans and deciding how to handle their diverse and potentially sentient adversaries but without access to multiplayer, this is completely useless.
After all the Pokémon waged their battles and they rest inside their Pokeballs, the trainer sits and wonders "was that battle really worth it?" just like how a person may think when seeing this game on a pawn store's shelf. Despite flaws associated with being a first generation release within the series, and some flaws that were never fixed for anti-social gamers, it is still an excellent game in it's own right. It is definitely worth checking out, if not for actual game play reasons then for nostalgia of what many consider a groundbreaking game.

Pokemon Red   MordecooLol23
Oh my gosh, I am finally getting the chance to review my first game! What is really ironic is that this is the first Pokemon game I have played! I have has so many good experiences with this game. I have caught them all, got all the Pokemon to level 50 or higher, and I have beaten the Elite 4 seven times! This game is very addicting and will keep you on the Gameboy for hours on end!
Graphics: 9
I gave the graphics on this game a nine because they were just starting out and they are fantastic. For the time, they really bring out the potential in the later graphics of the later games and really replicate the image of the anime Pokemon. Even though this game is in black and white, you will still be amazed by how the graphics card is utilized in this game. My only gripe with the graphics is that when your Pokémon's sprite comes out, it looks like a mess of pixels. Other than that, it looks great!
Sound: 9
I would have to give the sound on this game a 9 because most of the Pokémon's sounds are very similar, but they all have their own distinct call. The in game music is very good. Each place on the map has a distinct tone that will get your head bopping with the music. The gym battles, Team Rocket battles, and the Elite 4 battles are the best because they, in my opinion, the best sound in the game. The sound is quite very good and I would recommend anyone to put the songs from the game to your IPod.
Addictiveness: 10
Oh man. This game has so much to offer. Catch all the Pokemon, play the slot machines for hours on end, beat the Elite 4, level up all your pokemon, catch all the legendary Pokemon, trade with your friends, you have at least 40+ hours of game play ahead of you! When I first played this, I couldn't keep my hands off my Gameboy until one of my parents had to pry me off of it. This game is very addictive if you stay with it until the end and become the champion!
Story: 9
I gave the story portion of my review a 9 because it is a very broad story-line. You are destined to be the hero, so you set off on your adventure. You catch pokemon along the way and, eventually, become the champion. Not much more to be said. Team Rocket has made me laugh so much, so that is why the story is so high. If Team Rocket was non existent, then this game would get an 8 on story.
Depth: 7
This game doesn't go into much depth other than striving to be the champion of the Pokemon League. Sure, it does go in depth in terms of species of Pokemon, but other than that, it doesn't go much further than that.
Difficulty: 6
This game isn't very hard. You just have to level up your Pokemon in moderation and you will beat everyone very easily. I have only lost 2 battles in the entire game. The last 2 Elite 4 members. Other than that, it isn't very hard at all. Except, the Pokemon Mansion was sort of confusing at times, but I got through it.
Overall: 10
Overall, I give this game a 10/10, despite the minor flaws, which is acceptable to a first generation game. This game is one of the best games on the original Gameboy. I will never forget the time when I first got the game and turned it on and saw Ash and Charizard standing there and Ash flipping the Poke ball up and down. Ahh, the memories. Anyways, great game and I recommend this game to anyone who plays pokemon!

Pokemon Red Review   nighteagle88
This is my opinion. I tried not to be hard on the game but I kinda have to simply because this isn't the best Pokemon game out there. Pokemon Red was a awesome game when it came out. But it was the worst Pokemon game out those The game was revolutionary for its time but it doesn't hold up well.
Lets talk graphics. The graphics where great for there time and sense its the first Pokemon game on the Game boy Color Along with Pokemon Gold and Silver it still looks great today. But sense the graphics are okay there where a lot of graphical glitches in the game cause half the time you would surf on land trees would become water and you can use the fishing rod in statues. They don't break the game there just sometimes annoying. there's a girl in pallet town that can break the game by pushing her into the tall grass. Sometimes cut trees would come back and be invisible.
But the sound is there and its great but that's really much it the music is awesome but sometimes forgettable. I mostly remember the theme of pallet town the most. I really only played the game three times. But when i did play the game the strategy to beat the game was to catch to catch a physic type because the special stat was broken. and Pokemon like bug weren't the greatest like they should of been but where getting of topic.
But The depth in the game of saves this game of a 5.5 rating there's a lot to do in this game like capture all 151 Pokemon, (yes mew counts) Level them all to level 100, Fight all the trainers and gym leaders. But sadly that's it kinda not a lot if you think about it but it takes a while to do sadly. Oh and there's trading and Casinos i think. But sadly there's not much to do when you finish all the stuff if you did once you did it three times. But there's is a good amount of stuff to do those.
the only time you will be Addictive to the game is when you play it once. Its boring if you Hundred percent complete the game for the first time. Its just Addictive if you play it one time. I'm sorry if you played this game 20 time and never got bored once but when i played it for the 3rd time i got bored of it quickly.
The story is that you got on a adventure to capture all 151 Pokemon and then Team Rocket stuff happens Elite four rival battle and that its. Okay more Depth you go on a adventure to capture all the 151 Pokemon and then on your adventure you find a house that got robbed by Team Rocket and then you fight the Team Rocket member and then you fight some gym leaders cause you also have to be the very best. But then Team Rockets at lavender town and Team Rocket has a leader called Giovanni and more stuff happens you find a ghost and then more stuff happens. But then you beat all the gym leaders and now you have to go on victory road to fight the elite four because you have to be the very best. then you beat the elite four and now you have to fight your rival and then you win. I just explained the whole story in one paragraph. The story was not interesting to me sorry.
There is no Difficulty whats so ever the only times its hard is when your fighting a physic type because there broken. The elite four wasn't hard i only died by the rival once and that's it the only other times its difficult is when you a have to capture all 151 Pokemon and to do that you have to glitch the game Mew-two was harder in Pokemon Fire-red and Leaf-Green.
Overall this game isn't the greatest game out there the reason people see it as the best is for nostalgia reason oh and Pokemon red was my 3rd Pokemon game by the way so yeah i kinda of grew up with Pokemon red but at last it's not bad but it isn't the best one so Overall 6.8 Oh and i wasn't being as harsh as i could of been this game could of got a 5.2 but i wasn't harsh on it. Thank you for reading my review you can respond in anyway you please but this was my opinion based

The GameBoy's Shining Star.   hidood5th
Another IGN-like review lets start:  PS: since the only difference with red and blue is Pokémon you find, this is actually for both games.
Graphics: Beautiful, simply, Beautiful.
Sound: A Legendary Soundtrack, Pallet Town, Gym Leader Battle, and Lavender Town even.  They all are just awesome.
Addictiveness: This is the definition of Addictive. Gotta catch em' all, Nuff said.
Story: repetitive, but still great.
Depth: 150 Pokémon, 8 badges, and Trading + Battling, the perfect RPG.
Difficulty: Starts of easy, but that Elite 4 is so difficult, but rewarding.
Overall: if there's one game that can stand up to Super Mario Bros in importance in gaming,  it this. Pokémon was all the rage in the 90's, and it only took them 2 games to do so. If SMB is the best game ever, Pokémon is the best RPG, Handheld, and MultiPlayer game ever, plus probably 2nd best game ever.

The Original Pokemon Game   tyranit
Hello everyone, Tyranit here with another Retro Game Review! Today, I have a double review of Pokémon Red/Blue and Fire Red and Leaf Green!
(Red and Blue) Graphics - 7 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's graphics a 7 out of 10 because it has no color, and if you put it into the Game Boy Color, it is either Red or Blue. I do enjoy the Pokémon's sprites in this game though. It is the updated graphics from the Japanese Pokémon Blue. I looked at the sprites for the Japanese Pokémon Red and Green, and I saw the sprites, mainly Mew's, and I was happy we only got the renewed sprites, except for Koffing, because the Japanese Red and Green sprite of him was correct.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Graphics - 8 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's graphics an 8 out of 10 because it does not look as good as Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald. It does not look as good as even some of the lesser known games like Mega Man and Bass. The Pokémon's sprites do look very good for the Game Boy Advance's hardware. I also like the shiny Pokémon in this game, as they look well made as well.
(Red and Blue) Sound - 9 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's music a 9 out of 10 because it is very good for the Game Boy. I specifically like the Legendary Battle theme, Gym Leader/ Elite Four Member theme, and the Champion's Theme. I also consider this music better than what the NES or even some of what the SNES could do because it was very good.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Sound - 10 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's sound a 10 out of 10 because it is just all remixes for Pokémon Red and Blue's music, and boy does it sound really good for the Game Boy Advance's sound quality. I enjoy every song in this game, not just the ones that I listed for Red and Blue.
(Red and Blue) Addictiveness and Replay Value - 8 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's Addictiveness and Replay Value an 8 out of 10 because just like any other Pokémon game, you can go back and beat the game with other teams, do self-imposed challenges, and do Link Cable Battles, which are very fun when you have a group of friends that are very good at Pokémon.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Addictiveness and Replay Value - 8 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's Addictiveness and Replay Value an 8 out of 10 because it is the same thing with Red and Blue, except you can also do Double Battles and Mini Games on Two Island with friends. You also get to use Generation 2 and 3 Pokémon.
(Red and Blue) Story - 5 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's Story a 5 out of 10 because it is as simple as get starter from Professor Oak, beat gym leaders, go beat Elite Four and Champion. You do have some Team Rocket mixed in there, but that is a small side plot compare to Heart Gold and Soul Silver.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Story - 6 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's Story a 6 out of 10 because it is the same as Red and Blue, but adds the Sevii Islands to it, which were originally going to be placed in between the 7th and 8th gyms in Red and Blue, but due to limited space, they were left out, but were included in Fire Red and Leaf Green, which was pretty cool. I never did like them though.
(Red and Blue) Depth - 6 - I give Pokémon Red and Blue's Depth a 6 out of 10 because it is not that long, only averaging a total 3 hours of play if you don't go after optional stuff like the Legendary Birds, Mewtwo, and completing the Pokedex, which will take another 2 hours if you already have a completed file of whichever version you were not playing.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Depth - 7 - I give Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green's Depth a 7 out of 10 because it only adds the Sevii Islands and the Legendary Beasts to catch. That adds another 1 hour to the game play.
(Red and Blue) Difficulty - Varies - Yet again, a Pokémon game's difficulty depends how high you want it, if you want it very hard, you do a wedlocke, hard is nuzlocke, normal is a normal play through, and easy is with hours of grinding to have a way over leveled team.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Difficulty - Varies - Same thing as Pokémon Red and Blue.
(Red and Blue) Overall - 8.5 - I think this game deserves an 8.5 out of 10 because this game was a great game, but it does lack in story and depth, but this makes sense for this game as the games in the 80s and 90s, even though Final Fantasy had a good story line every time.
(Fire Red and Leaf Green) Overall - 9 - These games are the same games essentially as Red and Blue, but they are better because of updated graphics, music, more Pokémon, and some more places to go.
This has been another one of Tyranit's Retro Game Reviews! Next time I will be reviewing Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald! Thanks for reading and have a good day!

The Beginning And The Easiest   dumlink23
Alright Pokemon Red the first game in the Pokemon Series,I mostly play LeafGreen witch i the GBA Remake of Green but whenever i go all
the way back to Pokemon Generation 1 i play this.
Story
You are a 12 year old boy named Red(no its not Ash,you play as Ash in Pokemon Yellow).
Red has finally grown old enough to become a pokemon trainer and so has his rival Blue(not gary either...yea sorry for crushing those dreams). So the 2 boys go to Professor Oak's Lab, Oak is Blue's Grandfather(Oak seems to like you a bit more though..cool!) and he lets you choose from 3 Pokemon on his desk to take on your adventure through Kanto. The three Pokemon are Charmander, the fire pokemon Bulbasaur, the Grass Pokemon, and Squirtle the Water Pokemon and through out your adventure through Kanto you will fight your Rival until you reach the Elite four and have gotten all the Town Gym Badges and fight your rival in the final battle!
Gameplay
Pokemon is a very simple RPG you only have 6 Pokemon at once and only have one out at a time in this generation the battles are pretty easy
And the main focus of the game has "Type Advantages" Here's the Circle Grass beats Water,Water Beats Fire,Fire Beats Grass,Electric Beats Water,Ghost beats normal,Flying beats Fighting,Fighting beats Normal,Ghost Beats Fighting,And Bug Beats Phsycic, everything beats Rock except Normal and Physcic beats everything except Bug. Every Pokemon can only learn 4 moves witch is Wear you need some pokemon called "HM Slaves" witch are pretty much worthless Pokemon you catch to use your HM's on. HM's are pretty much moves you need to use outside of battle there are 5 ,CUT,FLY,SURF,FLASH,STRENGTH.Cut is used to cut down trees,Fly is used to fly to Pokemon Center's,Surf is used to go across bodies of water,Flash lights up dark caves and Strength is used to move boulders. You will encounter small building's called "Pokemon Center's" witch are Free Inn's that completly heal all your Pokemon in your party, In the PKMNCenters you will find a PC where you will store Pokemon when your party is full.Poke Mart's are where you buy your Potions,Antidotes all those normal RPG item's.Pokeball's are what you find in every poke mart(except the first one) and you will use these to catch pokemon, there are 4 pokeball's in this generation;Pokeball,Greatball,UltraBall and the MASTER ball! Pokeball is your normal ball you buy,Great and ultra balls have an easier tchance to catch a pokemon and the masterball is a GURANTEE CATCH...BUT there is only ONE in every game..use it
wisely kids.
heres how to catch a pokemon in a faster,Better way.Lower its health WITHOUT KILLING IT and just start chucking balls! it makes the catch rate easier so you dont waste 40 balls on a simple pikachu..
Graphic's
Pokemon has always pushed the hardware to its limits and remember we're going by how it was back then so this game looked AMAZING then 10/10 for gameboy standards.
Music
There is a song for every town,Route, opponent EVERYTHING and they're all real catchy..ill give it an 8.
Difficulty
For First time Pokemon player's its pretty average for any Pokemon expert? really easy game ill give it a 7 because most likely if you're reading this you're a first timer
Length
The game is the most Linear in the entire series simple A to B to C stuff not easy to get as lost as in later games
Overall i give it a 8.9
any one who has played Pokemon will know its a great game
Even if this game has Aged a bit especially the Pokemon sprites(i still like this version's sprites more than yellow's)
And the fact that every version has a different set of Pokemon make's trading a better idea
the game is overall a must play to any RPG and Nintendo gamer play it here and i hope you like it!
If you cant stand the graphics go play Leafgreen or FireRed for GBA.
Hope you enjoy the experience!

Pokemon Red   marcus047
The Pokémon game that  already had a huge success/ fan base in Japan, then brought  Pokémon franchise to America, here it is the first ever Pokémon game to ever be released in America, Pokémon Red Version! This is the game that started the huge multimillion dollar Pokémon franchise and kicked off/started many great epic years of the Pokémon franchise/series games in America( as well as Japan). This is truly a classic Pokémon game/adventure that no fan of the series can resist to play, between the games latest and greatest graphics and sound for it's time it made the Game Boy gaming system/handheld fly off the shelf's, with everybody anticipated to buy/pay this game!
Graphics: There are no glitches/ screen errors, the trainers, and landscape are in nearly perfect in design for this old school game. The graphics were the highest of quality for it's time, one would even go as far to say they set the standards for future games that would come out for the Game Boy system/handheld. The graphics aren't what you'd expect from a Game Boy system, they are much better, thus earning the graphics rating a solid 10 out of 10.
Sound: Well the sound is amazing, everything sounds smooth as far as the music go's. There are no what I would call "scratchy"  tones/music, Pokémon cries are excellent and can be heard clearly. And quite frankly every Pokémon has it's own unique cry, where you can tell the differences in the cries. So for sound I gave it a perfect 10 out of 10.
Addictiveness: this game is highly favorable as you can tell by it's later and highly popular remake Pokémon FireRed for the Game Boy Advanced, I literally played it straight until I beat it thoroughly, so I would reply this again any-day just for a good trip down memory lane  for the remembrance of the game that started the whole franchise for/in America. So for addictiveness I gave it a 8 out of 10.
Story: The story is basically this, your a young boy around the age of 10-12 who's just got his first Pokémon today and his taking his first steps of becoming a Pokémon trainer/master. On your journey you will face many tough challenges like the crippling strong gym leaders, and the nearly invincible group of elite trainers called the Elite 4, and not to mention, you take down a huge international major crime syndicate along the way in your journey. You will face many hardships and great challenges ahead put push on through them and train hard with your Pokémon partners! So for the story I gave it a staggering 9 out of 10.
Depth: Well the game itself isn't very lengthy, but with the extra events like finding and capturing the legendary birds and capturing the legendary mewtwo, which by the way unlike its later remake FireRed, you don't have to wait en-till after you get the national pokedex to open mewtwo's cave, in this, the original it's open right after you conquer/beat  the Pokémon Elite 4. And also you can do the mew glitch in this game! I estimate play time for this game at about 8-9 hours if you use the speed button. So for depth I gave this game a 8 out of 10.
Difficulty: To be honest the game isn't that difficult if you raise a well balanced team of Pokémon with a lot of diversity. The trainers you face should be pretty fairly easy to beat if you have the Pokémon type advantage over there's . So for difficulty I gave the game a 6 out of 10.
Overall: The game is a good investment time and viz wise,it offers a good quality story with some good interesting plot/story events. It has a fair amount of things to do in it between raising your Pokémon, battling gyms and the elite four and as well as normal trainers, catching legendary Pokémon and obtaining the national pokedex , and playing slots in the game corner for cool prizes you will be occupied for a while. So overall I gave this game a 9.8 out of 10.

Pokemon Red Review   catfight09
This is the review for Pokemon Red for the Game Boy Color (in case you didn't read it up there). I wanted something classical to play, and I've actually never played this game before. I just jumped straight into the Yellow game. I've heard that this one was better, and it was because I've never played it I wanted to try something new.
For the  graphics, I give them an 8 because it's pretty much the beginning of all pokemon games and a natural classic. I've seen a LOT worse graphics for this system, and overall, I'd say that the graphics are some of the best that I've seen (on this system).
In terms of the game's music, I like it a lot. It's pretty much all of the old school pokemon music. You may have heard bits and pieces of it from other pokemon games (like Pokemon Stadium 1 + 2). Sound quality does pretty good, as the music has a crisp and clean feeling to it. In other words, it isn't short and choppy like some other games that I know of.
The addictiveness is an absolute 10. Isn't too difficult and the gameplay and storyline flows together really well.
The storyline is similar to that of most games; all you do is pretty much beat gyms and take down the elite four. I'm playing this game as Red from the Adventures to make it more fun and challenging. So far, everything has been pretty easy and I'm about to take on my 3rd gym leader. All I've got with me is an Ivysaur and a Pikauchu- both are lvl. 30.
I gave the depth an 8 because it isn't a game in which you can just blow through and be done within the first one or two days (although it may be possible). You have to actually apply yourself a bit in a couple of parts in the story- mainly with the gym leaders. It may also take some time to do extra training before taking on the Elite Four. You definitely want to make sure that you've got a well balanced team, but you don't need to pull out anything too serious :P
As far as difficulty is concerned, I gave it a 3. The reason why the rating was so low is because so far in the game, I've had no real problems. As long as you've got a basic understanding of the game and setup a somewhat decent team, then you should be fine.  I took out Misty with my Ivysaur alone and it was under leveled (the game DEFINITELY gets harder in Fire Red).
Overall, I give this game a 9.7. Definitely satisfies the expectations of those newcomers that are new to the world of pokemon, or just the ones that feel like replaying the story. I would say that it's better than Pokemon Yellow because..... well it just is, I can't really explain why :P
You should definitely get this game if you haven't played it though.

Pokemon Red Review :)   claudevandog
Pokémon Red. My favorite video game ever. In this game your finally 10 years old and get to have your very own Pokémon and become a Pokémon master! But your not the only one. Professor Oak's grandson, your rival (Gary) wants to be the master too. He is the first person you battle. He will always get the advantage (Example: If you choose Charmander he will choose Squirtle.) You also must face other trainers and Pokémon Gyms.
There are 8 gyms and each one you beat gives you a badge. Once you get all 8 badges you get to face The Elite Four and be the master! But to be the master, you must catch the Pokémon!
At the Poke Mart you can buy PokeBalls to catch Pokémon and Potions to heal them. The PokeCenter can heal your party for FREE! But Pokémon Red is not all happy. It has a dark side. This dark side is Lavender Town. Lavender Town, to start off with, has REALLY creepy music. The beta Pokémon's Lavender Town's music had high pitched tones that gave kids headaches, that was removed from the real version. Next is the Pokémon Tower. Where dead Pokémon lie to rest. Don't go there without a Silth Scope, or you may encounter a GHOST. GHOST can not be attacked, due to the fact your Pokémon are too scared. And its impossible to catch. Anyway, on with the score!
GRAPHICS: 10 - Really good for Game boy graphics. And that's just the map. Look at the battles!
SOUND: 10 - When I play I always sing to the music. For some reason I love Lavender Town's music. There might be something wrong with me (JK.)
ADDICTIVENESS: 9 - It can take around 10 - 30 hours just to get from Pallet town to The Elite Four. Then you have to catch them all.
STORY: 9 - They don't explain it much in the game, but everyone knows the story of a 10 year old leaving home to collect Pokémon.
DEPTH: 10 - Getting 150 takes a LONG time. And getting Mew is really almost impossible.
DIFFICULTY: 6 - Sometimes you can find yourself lost in a cave. And catching Pokémon is really hard if its a legendary. If you run out of Ultra Balls, your done. That legendary is gone.
Now here is a little glitch in Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and even Yellow. Go to Viriden (sorry for misspells) city. Talk to the old man who teaches you how to catch Pokémon. He will ask if your in a hurry. Click No. Then watch him catch the Pokémon. Then right after fly to Cinnabar Island. Go to the right and surf on the coast so your in half land half water. Don't go out to the right or it wont work. Keep surfing up and down until a battle starts. If the glitch works, The wild battle will take an extra second to start, then you will be greeted by a backwards L made of fuzz named MISSINGNO. Catching him or running will make it so the 6th item in your pack will be X129. Cool huh? Thanks for reading the review! ~ claudevandog.

Pokemon is 20!? - Pokemon Red Review   Lexatom
A long, long time ago, back in the year known as 1996, two games were released in Japan. These two games were called Pokemon Red, and Pokemon Green. 2 years later, the Pokemon franchise began in North America, with Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue. It has been 20 years since the franchise has began. Here is a review of Pokemon Red to celebrate.
Graphics - 6
Here is an area where I feel Generation 1, mainly Red and Blue, struggles on. The graphics. The overworld graphics are alright, but whenever you get to the Pokemon sprites.....ugh. A prime example is Golbat. Just why. Why must Pokemon give me nightmares. And look at Pidgey and Squirtle. They look...odd. There are multiple other examples, but I was just pointing out the big ones. Also, the Mew sprite. What is that? E.T.? I would rather not have E.T. in another video game ever again, if that's alright.
Sound - 8
Now that we have gotten past the graphics, let's look at the positives this game offers. The music in this game is awesome, except for Lavender Town. I mean, the music in Lavender Town is cool too, but why did they feel the need to include very, very high pitched noises in the background. This game is going to give me brain damage. A cool feature I like about this game is that each Pokemon has its own unique cry to it whenever it appears in battle. Fun fact, some Pokemon cries are actually reused but slightly edited.
Addictiveness - 9
You will find yourself coming back to this game even after you beat the champion. So many things to do, and so many things to see. This will be covered more in the depth section. Battles are very entertaining, and you can even battle and trade with your friends with the Game Boy Link Cable. It works very well for what it is, and I enjoy it.
Story - 8
The story in Pokemon Red is fairly simple once you start. You have a Pokemon. Go on an adventure and do something with it. Once you get further into the game, you eventually find out about an organization similar to a mafia of some sorts. Team Rocket. Team Rocket are basically Pokemon thieves, which is kind of disappointing compared to the organizations in the games today, but these were the first games so I can let that slide. It is also later revealed that they have been trying to create a new Pokemon from the DNA of a mythical Pokemon named Mew. It is a very interesting topic, and you can actually find the Pokemon they created in Cerulean Cave after you beat the champion.
Depth - 10
Every single Pokemon game in the series has TONS of things to do. From making your own team, finding all the items, exploring, and even catching them all and filling your Pokedex. There's just one thing that kind of angers me. Whenever you fill your Pokedex, you know what your prize is? A diploma that you can put in your room. Yep. Great, right? All of that hard work. Oh well. You will need to trade with friends if you want to fill your Pokedex, and it's awesome.
Difficulty - 8
Difficulty depends on if you train your team well enough or not. If you skip a lot of trainers and run from a lot of wild battles, and you decide to challenge the next gym, you're going to have a bad time. However, if you fight every trainer and fight every wild encounter, you should be good. If you still think you aren't ready for the next gym, then you can always go back and level grind, and although it may take a bit, it should always be worth it once you finally defeat the opponent you have been trying to defeat for a while.
Overall - 9.1
Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue started the Pokemon series in North America, and the Pokemon series as a whole is now 20 years old. That's crazy once you think about it. And since it's the 20th anniversary, you can be sure that I will be making more reviews of the core Pokemon games, and I may even type up some reviews of some spin-offs in the series. I hope you enjoyed this review.

Pokemon Red Review   Pokegeek
Red! One of my very few games which I have completed 100%. I love this game, but unlike my other reviews, I am just gonna head straight to the review...
Okay, Graphics. Very basic and simple, but pleasing nonetheless. Although the sprites could have been designed nicer, the general graphics were nice all round. The game is mainly in black and white, but if you go in Lavender Town, it turns purple, or in Viridian city, it turns green...apparently. I'm colourblind so I don't have a clue. But anyway, I love the graphics in this game. I'm giving it a 9.
Sounds-I love the sounds in this game! Every piece of music is great, from the happy-go-lucky tune of Route 1 to the creepy, infamous melody of Lavender Town. Indigo Plateau had a great atmosphere to it, it made you feel like you had a champion to beat. S.S Anne had an almost rustic feel to its theme, and the Champion battle theme is so epic-a word I don't use much...I'm giving sounds a 9-I felt like the pokemon sounded a lot like machines, I mean you don't walk through a field and her the DARuuNT a Rattata makes, right?
Addictiveness-When you are truly trying to catch 'em all, you will become addicted to it. I was addicted because I was trying to catch 'em all, and I eventually succeeded. With the help of an old friend called Mr.No. But really, the amount of training you need to do also contributes to this factor. I'll give it a 10.
Story-The story is basically this. You are a 10 year old boy who dreams of becoming the very best Pokemon trainer ever, overcoming challenges and dangerous obstacles, and potentially risking your life. And your mother lets you do it. You also can't talk, apparently. And there is a mad old man in the town who frets over you walking in the grass but is find with you taking down an entire criminal organisation which kills if it needs to. I'll give it a 6.
Depth-If you are aiming to collect as much as possible and train em all up, then yes, this game has depth. But if you are just sticking with one team throughout the whole game, then it doesn't. Simple as that...6.
Difficulty-Pokemon has no difficulty...you only need to keep your pokemon leveled evenly throughout the entire game before you turn insane because of the game. And it isn't hard to train if you have defeated previous pokemon before, isn't it? 4.
Recount of scores: Graphics:9  Sound:9  Addictiveness:10  Story:6  Depth:6  Difficulty:4.
So generally, this game was great in the sounds, addictiveness and graphics sectors, but things start going belly up for the three behind the real reason for the game: Story, Depth, and Difficulty. It doesn't even matter if the game has bad graphics or sound, that's only a lust. But it NEEDS a good story, even difficulty, and depth...sadly, this game didn't.
Overall score is(according to mean)...7.3. What a short review...

Pokemon Red Review   yaoyao9
Oh boy. If anyone ever reads the numerical ratings I gave to this "gem", I'd be booed off the Internet. Anyway, Pokémon Red! What can one say about it that hasn't already been said? The game is the killer app on the original Game Boy, being the one of the best selling games (along with Pokémon Blue, Yellow, Gold, and Silver; Gold and Silver were also compatible on the Game Boy Color), and I would give it a score so much better had I been reviewing it in context. However, since this is 2015 we are talking about, I'm mainly here to talk about how well the game has aged since it came out in around 1998. Is there a point to playing this old dinosaur over the remake Pokémon FireRed? Let's find out.
Graphics
: Oh boy, why do I always talk graphics first. Despite the large and well shaded sprites in the battle screen and the rather decent over world sprites, the graphics of the game are still pretty awful. The Pokémon present barely resemble the creatures they represent, and some sprites (such as Geodude) are cringe-worthy. The rating for this section would've been much higher, again, if I was reviewing this in 1998. However, we now have Pokémon Yellow, a game with some truly beautiful graphics that do justify the Pokémon. Moreover, we also have Pokémon Gold and Silver, more Game Boy games (again, they are meant for the Game Boy, but looked better on the Game Boy Color) that made the Pokémon look beautiful. Red (and Blue), with its long CREATURE development cycle (it took reputedly more than 2 years to design the 151 Pocket Monsters), was still unable to do any of the creatures justice with the sprites present in the game, which is truly sad.
Sound: The tunes of Pokémon Red are well-known, household tunes. While deceptively simple, the tunes are intricately crafted and well worth their amount of remixes on the Internet.  A song doesn't need to be complicated to be good, and like the Super Mario Bros. Main theme, Pokémon Red is amazing with its musical dexterity.
Addictiveness: I can't say anything more than what's already been said over and over again. The game's popularity stemmed from how much there is to do and how much there is to accomplish. Don't forget the cheats and the various game-breaking bugs! This factor never changed with age, and its just as addictive now as it was in 1998. Kudos to you, Red!
Story: The story of Pokémon Red is rather simple. Without giving away too many spoilers, your player (canonically known as "Red") is first seen next to his (that's right, men only. Sorry, ladies) Super Nintendo. He then leaves his house and is greeted by Professor Oak, the town's Pokémon Professor. The professor leads you to his lab, and allows you and your rival (officially, the boy is known as "Blue" in the states and "Green" in Japan. The names represent the duo of games in each of their regions respectively) to pick out one starter Pokémon each. Once the player makes his choice from Bulbasaur, Squirtle, or Charmander, the rival takes his time to pick the Pokémon that is advantageous over the player's (Bulbasaur > Squirtle, Charmander > Bulbasaur, Squirtle > Charmander) and challenges him to a Pokémon battle. The player then continues through the region of Kanto, defeating the various Gym Leaders scattered in 8 cities and curb-stopping the criminal organization of Team Rocket before taking on the Elite Four in a bid to become the Pokémon League Champion. The story is simple, yet effective, and its charm is definitely present. Despite the same story being reused over and over again for the sequels, it is a fine story for children of all ages anyway.
Difficulty: The game overall is rather easy. As long as one keeps a steady team of Pokémon and doesn't bother to train any Pokémon, grinding for levels is unnecessary until right before the Elite Four, when the NPC trainers take a huge jump in their levels. Grind in Victory Road before fighting the Elite Four or cheat for Rare Candies.
Overall: The game didn't age too well. Despite my abundant mentioning of the pros of the game in sections other than graphics, the game is still overflowing in problems. The glitches are abundant, the types of Pokémon are poorly balanced, some Pokémon are outright unusable, etc. While the game was seriously well made by 1998's standards, it doesn't hold up in today's day and age. I can only give the game a 7 at best.

A game I am not quite fond of - Pokemon Red   DittoDude44
DittoDude44 here with review time, 5:20 to 6:30. Today I will be reviewing Pokemon Red for the Game Boy Color. So, withhout further ado, let us get started. (this is not going to be categories, this is going to be 2 big paragraphs)
Well, pokemon red has not caught my attention, it is not a good game, nor a bad game. It is hard to make a decision on this. It is an okay game, I just do not play it as much as others. But this game is a pokemon rpg in which you start out with a starter pokemon, Charmander (recommended for players that like their game hard), Squirtle (recommended for intermediate players), and last but not least, Bulbasaur (recommended for players that like the game super easy) and from there you use the pokemon to battle others and gain EXP. After you get your pokemon well trained, you can get more pokemon with poke balls. And you can train that one, and use it to battle others, catch one, and go from there by repeating that process, and you will have an epic team in no time. I guess I can say I like it some. Not the best, but some. Graphics, they are clear, but some towns are all one color, and it looks boring. Not the best I have seen around. Sound is not good. It was choppy for me, but it may be my PC. Depth is okay too, it is just like any other pokemon game. You build a team, elite four, champion, done. Difficulty, this game was really easy for me, and I used charmander. After you overgrind your pokemon, you will be hip to defeart anyone that blocks your path, if you do not over grind you will have a hard time in the beginning, because misty has a Starmie and Brock has an onix. Bulbasaur would be able to simply razor leaf them, and they are out of the game. Charmander usuall gets murdered by bubblebeam or rock throw. Squirtle, however, would be able to total Onix, but may have a hard time at misty, due to the same type matching problem that gives only a x1 hit. A critical hit with Squirtle's Tackle, may lay some dust on Starmie.
None of the categories were meant to go into detail, this is paragraphs, like a journal entry. Not something like "Graphics - 8 - Rating - Good - I liked the graphics because" and so forth. This is not like that, this one is different.
It is a good game I guess, I like it some. I like how this game has 151 pokemon in it, including legends. 151 is a lot of creations. I am inpressed with some of this game. I like the pokemon some of the gyms and I also like the elite 4. The Elite 4 in this game was pretty tough to beat, but not if you overgrind. Make sure your pokemon are around level 60-80 of you did that, that is overgrinding levels. 40-50 are not really overgrinded. What, I had a pokemon level 100 when I faced the elite four champion. I miss you, Arcanine. But yeah, the elite four are good in this game, challenging, I guess this is about it for this one. Not as long, but it will have to do. I have a lot to say for games I like, this one, is okay.
See ya.

Pokemon Red   Mobouis1
Pokemon Red and Blue is the Pokemon game that start it all. Pokemon Red is one of the first two Pokemon game so it will have some up and downs on the review today. There is a remake of this game that everybody should know which is FireRed.
Graphics: 9 When you are not battling the sprites look amazing. The background like the building look amazing for a gameboy game of it's era. When you battling the sprites of the Pokemon backside look weird, but the graphic is still good.
Sound: 9 The sound is amazing including the music that it have, but I wish Nintendo make the Pokemon cry sound like it from the anime. Nope they have to put some weird nose that don't even fit the Pokemon.
Addictiveness: 10 The game is pretty addicting when I was a little kid I play it nonstop on my GBA until the battery die.
Story: 6 You are a ten you old kid and an old man give you a Pokemon, then your mom let go a huge adventure to collect eight badges around the region, then you save the Pokemon from a evil organization, and you beat the elite four and the champion your rival. Simple enough.
Depth: 10 The game have a lot to offer you. I mean you could collect Pokemon or just make the best Pokemon team out there. The story should take you at least 10 hours or less if you know the what to do.
Difficulty: 4 The game isn't that difficult if you train and have a balance team including type.
Overall the game is a great Pokemon game that people shouldn't miss out on it. The remake is better because you could go to more places and catch more Pokemon and end of review.

The game that started it all...   RioluFan4000
Pok?mon Red and Blue are the first Pok?mon games. Pok?mon is a series where you battle creatures with your own creatures. In Pok?mon Red and Blue, you are an eleven year old boy from Pallet Town named Red and Professor Oak wants to see you. You try to go out without a Pok?mon and the legendary professor appears and gives you a starter. After this you go on a journey to get all the 8 gym badges and beat the Elite Four.
Graphics
These are the standard of Game Boy Graphics. Although.. some back sprites for Pok?mon look horrible like Vaporeon, Venusaur and many others. Although a great game, the graphics are average. Poke Centers and Marts are just square buildings with the word "Poke" for the center or "Mart" for the Mart. It's not that bad though as many other Pok?mon games do this. Great game, average graphics. I give this a 7.
Sound
The music is "music" to my ears, because the music composer did a really good job with the music. There is Route Music and Town Music. My favorite music are Trainer Battle and Champion battle. The field music is happy while the battle music gives you adrenaline and makes you ready for battling. For sound I give a 10.
Addictiveness
Pok?mon Red is a really addicting game with many trainers you can fight. It makes you go like "just one more battle and I'll level up". Since the max level is 100, it takes a while to level up and fans love to grind in the tall grass. There are many towns and places you can go. There are also the legendaries Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres and Mewtwo. The only bad thing is you can't find Mew. I give this a 9.
Story
This is a well done story reused in other Pok?mon games. The story is your a kid from Pallet Town who was chosen to get a Pok?mon by Professor Oak. You go on a long journey to Catch em all! Catch all 150 (151 if you count Mew) Pok?mon. You fight the 8 gym leaders and then go to the Pok?mon League to fight the Elite Four and then beat the champion... I give this a 10.
Depth
Pok?mon Red usually takes from 3 hours (if your doing a world record run) to a few days (if you take your time), on average this is about a 8-10 hour game. This has many towns, trainers, moves, obstacles, legendary Pok?mon and more! There is also Team Rocket which you can take down. There is also Lavender Town, the town of death! This gets an 8.
Difficulty
The game is average in difficulty, but a little bit difficult as you need to train Pok?mon before fighting gyms. There is also the Elite Four. The Champion has level 60s-70s so you need to train a bit more. There are also mazes and caves. I give this a 6.
Overall I think this was a very well done game and after all, It got so popular that It became a series. This is the end of my review and I hope you liked it so leave a reply and tell me what you think. Next review might be of Pok?mon Diamond II.

Pokemon Red Review   Vizzfan23
Hello all of you gamers and arcade loving people in the world. My name is Vizzfan23 and this is my Pokémon Red retro game review. Now on my last review I talked about a long lost relic of the arcade era which was known as Ninja Baseball Batmen. I was a great arcade that many people from that time had never heard of. However I really want to change gears and finally talk about a Pokémon game. What better way to begin then with the game that started it all. So pick your starter and grab a couple of potions because we are going on a terrific Pokémon adventure.
Pokémon, one of the most iconic games of all time.  Everybody around the world have played these games. Whither they where little kids or mature adults, millions of people around the world have fallen in love with the amazing games. But I believe that the original Pokémon games where the best, especially Red. But how did this game get so popular though.

Well first off the graphics used in this game are some of the best of the extensive library of  Gameboy games. Many of the models of the Pokémon look realistic and the environment looks terrific for the system. However some of the Pokémon, especially Mew and Golbat, looked pretty bad. They looked like crude, unfinished sketches of deformed animals.  Even with this, all of the trainer sprites look good while all of the items look good.  So even with the few graphical hiccups that made their way into this game, I still believe that the graphics of this game really deserves a amazing 9 out of 10 with its great character designs and  brilliant environmental features. It was really good compared to other Gameboy titles like Super Mario Land and Harvest Moon GB
Now with great graphics, great sound should follow right? Well with this game it would be a yes. Much of the music that can be heard throughout your adventure really work well with the area that you are in. Even the music played when engaging a trainer are amazing for a Gameboy game. Even the sound that all of the Pokémon make are terrific. Many of these sounds sound like they are coming out of living animals. However, like ever game ever made, there are always flaws. Some of the music played in the game could have been improved or cleared before the game's release.  Even with this, the overall sound was good and was really fun to listen to. So with all of this put into account I would give the sound that this game brings a  good 8 out of 10. Much of the sound used in this game is great based on the system's limitations and really make the game come to life.
Now with a game with amazing graphics and good sound, how fun would this game be without a reason to come back. Well this game really gives the average gamer a lot to do. First off there is the "Story mode" in which you go on an epic quest capturing Pokémon and battling your way through gym after gym to become the champion. This mode requires you to train and level up your Pokémon to keep advancing which will really eat up your time. Just  playing the story mode could take you 14 to 20 hours of game play to defeat the campaign. However this is not the end of this gaming adventure. Even after beating the story mode, there is still a lot of fun things to do. There is a lot of Pokémon out there that still need to caught even after you defeat all of your foes. This, along with completely filling your Pokedex could take even more of your time away from you. All of this along with the ability to fight with your friends will keep gamers of all kinds coming back for more. With all of these options awaiting you I think the addictiveness of this "Capsule Monsters" title deserves a awesome 9 out of 10. This game will keep you coming back constantly to either battle your friends or to capture those oh so amazing legendaries .
Even with all of these elements in place, how did the developer bring a story, depth, and difficulty into play. Well Nintendo really loved the idea of bringing a great story along with a great theme. In this game you adventure all across the world as a young boy which only goal is to become the very best Pokémon trainer ever. This along with all of the many characters and dialogue which is presented throughout your journey will help you really become a Pokémon master.  However the depth of this title really brings out the story in a much better light. With the amount of different gyms and trainers spread around the world, it really brings tons of Pokémon along with them. With these gyms, come a lot of different Pokémon that will help you really feel like a trainer. There are even 15+ town that you will encounter during your journey which will help expand your game experience that much more. So with this in mind I really think that the story and depth of this game deserves a good 8 out of 10. The depth that this game brings really brings out the story in a very deep and entertaining way. Now where there is a good story, there has to be a difficulty to match. When you first begin your Pokémon adventure, most of the Pokémon that you will face will start at about level 4 or 5. However as you gain more badges and the more trainers you face, the stronger your opponents get . This is really well fixed into the story because the closer you get to your goal, the harder it gets to achieve it.  This really makes the RPG style play this game brings a success which is why I am giving the difficulty a decent 5 out of 10.
So after enjoying this amazing adventure through this world filled with amazing creatures and a exciting story, I have finally come up with an overall rating for this masterpiece. I truly believe that this classic Pokémon title deserves a amazing 9 out of 10. This is an amazing rating compared to Wario Land ( It earned a 8.8) and Super Mario Land ( Which also earned a 8.8) which where other terrific games on this portable console. I would recommend that every body should try this game.

So with that, this is the end of another Vizzed.com retro game review. If you know any good games that I should review, please leave a comment below.

Good game, good times.   rustgarde
Making short review about my first Pokémon play I played, I try my best to remember what kind of game it was, because it's been years I last played this game.
GRAPHICS:  7
Well I think the graphics are pretty good for game boy game and I really liked how all those Pokémon's look like. One of my favorites are Pidgeotto because it looks like a fat pigeon : D And there are lot of other cool and pretty funny looking sprite's in this game, and in my opinion it is a good thing that not all of them are so "perfectly" made. And the Cities/towns looks pretty nice and organized so you don't get lost when your in the city..... And about the caves, they look pretty dull to me, there aren't much anything interesting..... Just rocks and stony walls, but I guess that's what the caves are all about dark and dull. Anyways... Mainly I liked the graphics and there wasn't really anything that annoyed me about it, or maybe those caves because they were so boring looking....
SOUND: 8
Alright so about the sounds, I remember one sound that was so annoying I HAD to turn the volume to zero.... And it was when your Pokémon's HP dropped -30%? And it started to do that annoying peeping sound...... But that was If I remember right the only annoying sound in the whole game... The music's were great I loved them, especially the gym battle theme! It gave me some boost and always put the volume to the maximum when I faced one of the leaders. And there was this spooky Lavender town theme that gave me the creeps, but still liked it.  So overall the sounds and music's are pretty good compared to other game boy games, don't really know what else to say about this so I just move on.
ADDICTIVENESS: 9
This game was reaaally addictive when I was a young boy and I think it still can be for some of the newer generation kids, even thou I think most of them like to play much newer Pokémon games like black and white or X and Y, but those who respect or like much older generation games I recommend to play this or blue does not really matter much anyway, different Pokémon's but still the same story... Well about the addictiveness when you start to play something that you really like, example this Pokémon Red it is very hard to stop playing it because you want to know what comes next and what kind of Pokémon's are lurking in the grass or in the next cave you find etc. etc...... Guess that's about all, let's get going.
STORY: 9
The story started at the little town called Pallet Town, there lived two 10? 13? Year old kids who wanted to became a Pokémon trainers and in the same village there lived this old man called Professor Oak who had few extra Pokémon's what were suitable for a beginner trainer, so these kids picked one Pokémon and started the adventure to became the nest Pokémon Master... Well you play obviously as one of the kids called Red (or Ash if you like...) and the other kid (your rival) is called Blue (Or Gary.). Your rival comes sometimes to challenge you to the Pokémon battles to test your and maybe his own skills... Yeah yeah enough about that.... Well anyways the story is quite interesting and there wasn't really a problem to think what the heck I have to do now if you just follow the story... So no need to worry that you get stuck in anywhere, but if you do I bet it wont take long to figure out what you have to do next... I think that's about all.. All most all, but let's keep this train going......
DEPTH: 8
Alrighty then, depth depth.. Ummm. Well there are some side quests you might want to do like catching the 3 legendary birds or this one badass called Mewtwo. And of course if you want to catch all 150 (not sure you can catch Mew in this, I never haven't) it gives you many hours of more gaming time.... If you just like to follow the story and finish the game fast, I believe it will take something about 15-20hours? Not really sure because I don't like speed running the games (if that's even the right term about it..) Almost forgot the Safari Zone. It is good place to catch some rare Pokémon's... So mainly this game has lot of offer like the game corner where you can earn some gold and buy new Pokémon's or TM (technical machines, with those you can teach new moves to your Pokémon's... just saying this if someone has not played these games before).... That's enough I'm done.
DIFFICULT: 8
In my opinion this game was pretty hard when I played it first time, there was not so many fancy moves and TM's like they have in the newer generations, and if I remember correctly each Pokémon learned from 1-10 moves so there was not really so many choices how you wanted to build your Pokémon's moves. You need to train your Pokémon's if you want to beat the gym leaders, they gave me a hard time. Especially the psychic girl from Saffron city? And the Pokémon league is pretty hard too, had to try it several times before I finished it, Maybe I should play this game again and see if it is still so hard as I can remember.... There were some hard trainers too in the wilds and caves too that can be pretty hard to beat, but none of them were really too hard to beat.... And the wild Pokémon's are pretty easy too so there should be no problem if you want to catch them, exception is of course the Safari Zone where you can't hurt them and you have to throw them some food or mud to keep em busy, It wasn't easy to catch dratini in that lousy lake. :D Well enough about that....
OVERALL: 8.1
Ok so the overall seems to be 8.1, that's pretty good. And seems like this review was not so short that I was expecting it to be. So good game, good times and recommend it to every one who likes to play Pokémon games or just these retro games where you catch and beat your enemies like there is no tomorrow. Guess that's it, Good day or good night. Peace and love to you all who bothered to read this nonsense.

Pokemon Red A Legend is born   supersayianbroly
Pokémon Red Version one of the two that started the craze is still alive in many fans hearts, and souls, this game had it all, a fantastic story line, epic character's, the chance to travel, more to do then just move from place to place fighting the villain's, and of course a rpg feel to the game.
You are a young man named Ash, (or whatever you name him) leaving your home to become the worlds best Pokémon trainer, to do this you must defeat the elite four, who are the current best of the best. To do this though you must catch and train your own team of Pokémon, who are wild animals or to us monsters I guess.
(I call them monsters because the Japanese name if I am correct is Pocket Monsters.)
Standing in your way of completing this goal are a couple of factors, a group of evil Pokémon trainers and thieves Team Rocket led by their leader Giovanni, also in your way are the eight Pokémon gym leaders who you need to defeat in order to claim the gym badges needed as proof to enter the elite fours Pokémon tower, also in your way is your rival Gary (or whatever you name him) who shows up from time to time just to see how your training is going and to tell you he is better then you, and try to prove it.
Along the way you meet many character's none more important then Professor Oak, who is a you guessed it Pokémon professor, he gives you your first Pokémon, and sends his assistants to give you valuable  equipment at times.
You also will have to find Hm's (Hidden Machines) to progress in the story as well as a slew  of other items such as different poke balls, potions, ect.
There are 150 different Pokémon to catch, some are just evolved forms of others, yet there are catches to getting all 150, some you need to trade via the link cable to get the final evolved form, others you will have 1 chance of getting such as the three legendary birds, one you need to catch with the master ball but you have to beat the game before you are able to do this, also to get all 150 you need a copy of blue version also as some Pokémon only appear in blue and others only appear in red, also with the different forms of Eve you need to get 3 of Eve to do this making it hard as there is only 1 Eve in each version.
Now there is a Pokémon numbered 151 the great and powerful Mew, the only way I have found of getting this secret Pokémon is by a game shark.
Many rumors have been flying around for years about there being another way of getting him but I have found no other way.
Also adding to the difficulty of catching them all is you have to choose between 2 fossils which you can regenerate into a Pokémon, but to get both of them you will need both versions of the game Blue and Red.
You will fight many different kind of trainers along the way on your quest, and face challenges and puzzles.
This is definitely a game you do not want to miss out on.
The only problems I have had with this game are as follows.
1. You can only have one saved game at a time.
2. The music is very repeative in the areas while there is different music, in different areas, it loops the music over and over.
Other then that this is a very good game that will remain forever a classic.

Pokemon Red Version Review   Divine Aurora
Overall:7.5
Graphics:7
Sound:10
Addictiveness:6
Story:7
Depth:7
Difficulty:6
For the younger Pokmon fans who loved Pokmon Firered Version, this is the classic old original version that Pokmon Firered version was based off of which is Pokemon Red version released along side Pokemon Blue in the United states along side Pokmon Red, and is believed to be the first Pokmon game ever(this is debatable, depending on if you count Pocket monsters green version). In addiction Pokemon Red version contains all generation one Pokmon( Kanto region Pokemon). In Pokemon Red Version, Mewtwo's cave is accessible as soon as you beat the Elite four, the mew glitch can be preformed in this version, and Moltres is found in Victory Road instead of on Island 2 on Mt Ember in Pokmon Firered version. On a side note the bag has a limit on how many item's it can hold and it doesn't have categories with in the bag so everything is just one list of item's.
The graphics portrayed in Pokemon Red version are rather basic and only moderately detailed. There is no background scenery during Pokmon battle scene's.Pokemon sprites are very detailed when facing them in a battle but when your the trainer who is battling then the pixels on the Pokemon is a little distorted. The color quality is at the bare minimum standard, the towns in the game are different colors but what ever color the town is, everything in that town is that color, buildings and your character, bodies of water, literally everything.
The Sound heard in Pokemon Red Version is excellent. The Pokemon do have there own specific and made just for them Pokemon cries. When Pokmon faint the sounds"cries" they make can be clearly heard. Each town has it's own soundtrack "song" that can be heard nicely and is clean cut quality. Ironically the sound quality is alot better than the graphics quality.
What is the addictiveness of Pokemon Red version you ask?, well there is a couple of factors the cause a low rating in this category. For starters the graphics and colorization are rather poor, the bag can't hold that many item's and once it gets full you either have to drop item's(basically delete them or use them at that time and place). Also the pixel resolution is very poor also, characters in normal perspective out side battles have no depth to them, the are wide body and generally flat characters. What makes up for the these factors is the fact that it is a Pokemon game, the story is still enjoyable and people who like to go back and play every game in a franchise will for sure love this game especially those who wish to play the first Pokemon game to be released ever.(this is debatable, depending on if you count Pocket monsters green version)
The story of Pokemon Red Version starts off like mostly any game in the Pokmon franchise, you are a young 12 year old male(you can only be male in this version) starting off his journey. You awaken in a little town called Pallet town and you get your starting Pokmon from Professor Oak after you blindly walk into a field of grass without a Pokmon. After you head into the next town and get the parcel for the Professor he gives you your Pokedex and you set of on your journey to become a Pokemon master. You will face many challenges on your journey and meet many legendary Pokemon. Your mission and main purpose is to evolve and raise your Pokemon so that way you can take on gym leaders as well as the incredible group of trainers know as the Elite four, while working towards that goal there is a sinister evil organization in the works of Kanto(the region in the game where you are at) that are hell bent on capturing and enslaving Pokemon and using them for evil purposes and it's up to you to defeat the head of this organization. That evil organization known as Team Rocket, there goal is to steal Pokemon and take over all of Kanto.Along your journey you will find there are a ton of legendary Pokemon, like Mewtwo (which his cave is accessible as soon as you beat the elite 4, unlike in Pokemon Firered), the three legendary birds can also be caught in this, Articuno, and Zaptoes are at the same area's they would be found in Pokemon Firered, but Moltres can be found in Victory Road instead of where it is found in Firered. Also on a side note the game is smaller than Firered, there is no island one, two or three.
How much "depth" is in Pokemon Red Version you ask?, well the game doesn't take very long to beat at all.Pokemon Red Version has a moderate amount of activities to do in game, like playing slots for coins in the game corner, or going to the safari zone and capturing Pokemon you wouldn't find in to many other areas in the game(Pokemon like dratini) or fishing in basically any bodies of water, both large and small. The game is at a standard level map proportion wise, there are 10 towns you can go to with plenty of routes in between towns.
How difficult is Pokemon Red Version?, well Pokemon Red Version isn't very difficult at all if your Pokemon team is diverse in type. The levels of the Pokemon even in the elite four are rather low compared to levels in the newer games, a team of level 45's-55 could beat the elite four. Gym battles are easier as well compared to newer game gym battles.Gym leaders Pokemon levels are lower than what you would expect/seen in newer games in the franchise for you newer game Pokemon fans. The games A.I is predictable and can easily be beat.
Overall Pokemon Red Version is a game with relaxed difficulty, moderately acceptable graphics and excellent sound. Although I imagine it's not very appealing as compared to newer games in the franchise, but it is worth the moderate price of Viz it costs to play because its a chance to play the game that started the Pokemon franchise.

Pokemon Red: What did we do to deserve such beauty?!
Let me teach you a little something you'll never forget. Pokemon games are EPIC! A lot of stuff can happen in them, which you will find out if you play any of them. Oh, why did I choose to review this? Pokemon is full of surprises, and there are many places to explore. Let's get into the review.
Graphics
Come on, the graphics aren't going to be the best, seeing as it was on the Game Boy. But I, personally think the graphics and animations are great! 7 out of 10!
Sound
Even though it's 8-bit, the sound track is truly admirable. Music ringing your ears and making you grin as you trudge on through the game! 10 out of 10!
Addictive Factor
I'd definitely play this again. Every other day! One of the best games i've ever played in my life, I recommend it to everyone! 9 out of 10!
Story
Y'know, all the story is is a boy called Red going out on a journey to challenge the elite four and catch all the Pokemon in the whole of the region! *Gasp!* I just said all that without taking a breath! Anyway, story, 4 out of 10!
Depth
Oh my god, this game's big! So many things to find, see, and do! All the Pokemon look so happy to be at your side! May your quest be a great one friends! 7 out of 10!
Difficulty
Y'know, I'm not too fussed about the difficulty, because at least overall it's a fun game! Difficulty 5 out of 10!
I'm not so sure whether or not this is bigger than the sonic 3d review, and I'm not going to bother checking! I just hope you guys liked it! That's all form me folks! Dopey Donald 362, signing off!

Pokemon Red Version   supercool22
Pokémon Red Version : Game Review !
Pokémon Red is a Great Game , you can't say its not . Overall I believe this Pokémon Game is the first Pokémon ever made with Pokémon Blue , Made in 1998 ( came out in Japan in 1995 ) for the Game Boy .Here are my scores for this game .
Graphics : 6
There is only one or two reasons why I gave the Graphics a six . One is that this game is in Black and White ( some times other colors ) . Two is that the Pokémon look ............. weird !
Sounds :9
I love the music , because it brings back memories or when I first played it which was last year on vizzed , I played Pokémon Yellow before this but I was not on vizzed .
Addictiveness : 7
This game could get pretty Addictive sometimes but unfortunately I stopped playing because it got a little boring ( not saying that I don't like Pokémon ) but one day might play this again .
Story : 9
I don't know much about the story , all you got to do is have fun with your adventure and try to defeat Team Rocket .
Depth : 9
Pokémon Red Version is just like all of the Pokémon games , Defeat Trainers , Catch Pokémon and Beat the Game , that's the reason Pokémon is so great .
Difficulty : 6
This Game is easy , compare it to Pokémon Yellow , Yellow is little bit more hard than Red only Because the Gym Leaders are stronger but there still easy to beat .
So that's all I got say about this game , I really can't think of anything else to say . Hope all of you have a super awesome Day :D

The game that marked our childhood.   Oryxkiller
Hi guys. This is Oryxkiller with another review.Today I will review a game that opened the gate to one of the best games we know.PokeMon Red.I am going to start the review by saying that this is one of the 4 games that allowed us to see the Pokémon Saga.PokeMon Red is a game in which you have to capture and train little creatures that are more known as Pokemon. This game is probably the most game ever played in history. Why is that. Its easy to explain. The game was originated for the Game boy and then some years later was released to the Game boy Color and Nintendo DS.I have played this game ALOT.I really love the fact that you get to fight against multiple characters and get to play with some of the best Pokémon's ever like Reich,Charizard,Blastoise and many other Pokemons. You have many factors that make this game so enjoyable to play. There are things in this series that most of the games do not have.Despite the fact that this game is not colourful its still very good. You can have up to 6 Pokémon's in a team.Dont worry if you catch ed more that 6.They will be tranfered to a pc in which you can get them on any Pokémon Center.Speaking In Pokémon Center the buildings are also very creative. There are many hacks of this game like Pokémon Hypo Lullaby in which I already made a review. Now let us start with the Graphics.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Graphics:The graphics in this game are like 8-bit maybe. Its sad they made the game colourful but it has not very colour. .But despite that the game is very well designed. The Pokémon Sprites are just amazing. The little trees are good as well. You can notice that this game has a lot of good aspects that you will notice during your progression in the game. The Characters are also well designed. The buildings are little houses that look not so special. But when you enter them you will notice a lot of things that make you very happy. In each city the colour of the game changes. For example in Mt.Moon the colour of the city is blue.If you go to fish city on safari zone is yellow.TherEs a lot aspects to mention in this game. For example there is only one city that is not coloured. That city is one of the most creepy in Pokémon Story. If you don't know its Lavender Town. The death city. The Pokémon tower is also noticeable in the graphics because when you fight a normal ghost the color its like grey but if you fight the ghost in the last floor that blocks you it kinda looks like brown or something. The graphics are more than enough for a game like this.So for this reasons I give it a 10.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Sound:The sound is amazing. There is a big variation on the songs. For example:There are some cities in which the soundtrack is just amazing. The gym soundtrack is very good.It makes you feel like your gonna face a very difficult oponnent. When you ride the bicycle or when you use surf. That sounds are very enjoyable but then when you get to Lavender Town the sound makes you cold and scared. There is more reasons. The battle soundtrack is very enjoyable. There is so many things that make the sound so cool.Once you start you journey the music never ends and that is a good thing. The sounds that Pokemon make are also very good. The songs are very memorable. For that reasons i give it a 10.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Adictiveness:The game took me about 3-4 days to complete when it was christmas. The game just makes you very excited. There are alot of things to make you hooked to this game. For example there are the Aides of Professor Oak that give you items when you have a especific number of pokemons. You have alot to do in order to progress in the game.Theres obstacles that you need to pass in order to win the game. The quests are very good. You get items that help you in your journey. Then there are the Pokemons. You do whatever you need to do in order to furfill your dreams. The game makes you very hooked and there is the myths that this game has.I had a very fun time investigating so i give it a 10.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Story:The story is huge. You need to do so many things,so many tasks,so many items,it all makes the story better. The game story is very impressive. You have to fight against Blue or Gary.(Rival).He gets better and better until you finally meet him after beating the elite 4 and win him. There is alot things that made this game so big.The rivals, the caves, the landscapes, the abilities, everything in this game makes a part in this story. There is so many good things that is found during the game.I give it a 10 because the Story is very, very, very big.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Depth:As i said the game took me 3-4 days to complete. That is about 38 hours. The game is just so big and i demonstraded it during my review. The game as several aspects that makes it offer so many things. The game takes alot of you so if you are going to play this game i consider you play it with alot of concetration because you will sure need it.I give it a 10 becuase it took me alot to finish this game.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Difficulty:The game is so big and that allows the game to be hard.In the beginning you think 2-3 hours is enough to beat like 4 leaders but when you face more powerful trainers and more hard taks comes, there is when the game difficulty begins to appear. The game has many things to do so for that reason i give it a 7.
Overall:This game was a very marking game in my childhood. The game is so impressive in everything it does.I dont need to review more Pokemon games because like this one,all of them are great in everything they offer. My overall is 10.I really liked this game and i hope you like it as i do.I promise you that this will be a game that you dont wanna miss.I say goodbye and i will return with another review.See you next time!

The best game in the series! Or naw?   Cradily is love
Ahh, Pokémon red, a classic, the first installment of the amazing series, this game gets a 10/10 just for that. Haha no just bull crapping you, Pokémon red is honestly one of the most outdated, primitive Pokémon games and it’s aged about as well as space jam. This game has more glitches than battle field 4’s release version, the balancing of draven’s old passive, and the graphics of an old nes game (There was no excuse for how poor the graphics were, there were numerous games with better graphics on the game boy). I didn’t grow up with this game, so I have an unbiased opinion free of nostalgia for this game, you may disagree with me, and that’s ok, but I’m reviewing this game as a standalone game, the sequels will not be thrown into the score, as they don’t exist! So without further ado, let’s get on with the review!
GRAPHICS (4/10)
Off to a bad start? No the graphics aren’t ground breaking and yes I understand this is a game boy game, but honestly the graphics are still bad, for one the sprites, oh my god, the sprites, they’re HORRIBLE! Look at charizard; does he look the least bit intimidating? Golbat looks like a 4 year old drew a picture of the monster in his closet. Mankey looks like a pig that went through lab testing. Machop looks like a starving child (Because the first thing I want to see when I think Pokémon is a starving child)! Golem goes from looking like a bad ass rock monster to, chibi eyes? Kingler’s sprite isn’t bad, but what happened to him? Both his claws are huge! Chansey is just… derpy lol. And finally we have omnastar, and apparently disco is as old as he is. So yes these sprites are BAD! The trainer sprites aren’t too bad though, they look the way you’d expect them to look, a lad looks like a little boy, a nerd looks like a stereotypical scientist and so forth. The environments look decent, you can clearly tell that the plant blocking your progress is a tree and that building is a house, they’re not horribly drawn, but not the most architectural. And the coloration (on the super gameboy and gbc) is poor but this is pretty excusable for a gameboy title. Overall the graphics are flawed but aren’t terrible by any stretch of the imagination, if you’re looking for a good game with great graphics, look elsewhere as this game doesn’t deliver in either departments. And remember, while graphics aren’t EVERYTHING, they still play an important role in game’s appeal and it usually tells you if the designer’s put effort into the game.
SOUND (6/10)
The sound thankfully isn’t as bad as the graphics, but it’s not up there with the mega man series or teenage mutant ninja turtles. The music is pretty docile and tame, nothing wrong with it, but the soundtrack itself is pretty dull, honestly there isn’t much to say about it, you have a mixed bag at best, with great tracks like the battle themes and viridian forest, these tracks are upbeat and give you a sense of adventure and excitement. But there’s also boring tracks like route 1, saffron city and the cave themes, these tracks are dull and usually make want to pop in some A$AP Rocky while I find my way through rock tunnel. The cries aren’t worth writing home about either; again it’s a mixed bag of good and bad. There are only about 13 cries due to data limitations, this isn’t an issue really, but it’s worth mentioning nevertheless. The sound effects are probably the strongest part in all honesty, the bike bell and iconic thud noise are the strongest links in this case, they’re nice and all and I appreciate it. In all the sound is fair and all, but I feel they could’ve made the music a bit more adventurous and moody, but as I said, the sound in all isn’t terrible by any stretch of the imagination.
ADDICTIVENESS (3/10)
Whoa, we just went from 0 to 100 in the criticism of this game, the game play is put it simple, broken… First off let’s start with the positives of the battle system, I like it, limiting your skills/spells/magic/attacks/whatever to 4, it leaves a strategic sense, you want your mew to learn ice beam but already have 4 move slots? Looks like you’ll have to say goodbye to hyper beam. And the 6 party member limit was fairly new as most Jrpgs had 4 members at most in your party. The fact that all your monsters have 1 or 2 elements adds a nice strategic touch that keeps you from using 6 of the same monster with no penalty (aside from a certain type that I will mention later) but it kinda ends there to be honest. The over world is probably the tamest and most stable part of the game, and yes there are game breaking glitches such as the glitch city and the reprogramming glitch, but for the most part the glitches are difficult to just “stumble upon” and require a bit of digging deep into the game to get anywhere. The designs for the most part make sense and aren’t bad in any way, there are many oversights that make the game easier than it already is, one of the most well known ones is the pokedoll bug where a certain boss can be bypassed by using a pokedoll to escape the battle and downright ignore the boss, although this is just as easy to avoid as it is to perform, which kind of makes me forgive it. But this game is burdened to no end with bugs and balancing issues, first off the psychic type (element) is BROKEN, the only type that resists psychic is itself and psychic is only weak to bug, and considering pin missile was your best bet for a bug type move at the time, it was a useless weakness to give it. The special stat is the 2nd most broken element, as a Pokémon with good special stat can take and make hits, making Pokémon with high defense and special unstoppable forces, the special stat also triggers many glitches that allow you to catch any Pokémon you want, and where’s the fun in that, Pokémon is supposed to be a social game where you trade monsters, this glitch makes it such a chore to do just that, because why go out and socialize when I can just break the game and get a gengar myself? The lesser oversights and battle errors include, the fact that all moves not named swift have a chance of missing, regardless of what the accuracy says. Also rage is poorly programmed, your attack rises each time you’re damaged, but you never lose pp for the move and you’re locked into the move unable to switch out until your Pokémon faints. While we’re on the subject of poorly programmed moves, the partial trapping moves are put it short, strange… They prevent the opposing Pokémon from moving AT ALL, and ghosts, while not damaged by the move, are still effected by the trapping, this makes for cheap strategies such as an agility dragonite, which out speeds everything in the game and can stall until the opposing monster is in the ko range for a hyper beam. Speaking of hyper beam, if hyper beam ko’s anything, (whether it be a Pokémon or substitute) you don’t need to recharge the attack, and explosion/self destruct, don’t faint the user when you kill a substitute. There are many, many more problems with the game’s battle system, but I don’t feel like writing a 7000 word essay on the bad programming, so I’ll leave you with this info.
STORY (5/10)
The story, is umm, lacking? You’re a boy who just turned 10 and professor oak has called you in, you go to his lab to find he’s not there, so you decide to do what you’ve been taught not to… go into the tall grass, but just as you attempt to leave the comfort of pallete town, prof. oak stops you, you go into his lab and receive your first Pokémon as a birthday gift and you’re off on your way to become the champion of Pokémon! The story is pretty cookie cutter, and for an rpg, that’s problematic, whether it’s made for kids or not. The crime organization is pretty dull, they’re goal is to make money by stealing rare Pokémon and selling them in the rocket game corner and black market. You’re rival is the stereotypical rich kid, he’s always a step ahead you, he always knows your team in advance to make counter strategies to you, and his connections with his grandfather make his adventure much easier than yours. While lacking much of a story, it’s not a terrible story, not by a long shot, but it’s a pretty plain and overused one. When you play an rpg, you expect an expansive story, but this game does not deliver unfortunately.
DEPTH (7/10)
On the contrary of how I’ve been beating this game up, the depth is actually decent! There’s a total of 150/151 monsters to obtain, and it’s certainly not easy, as some monsters are unavailable in the wild and require evolution or trading to obtain, and even the ones you can catch, some of them (COUGH tauros COUGH) are difficult to catch due to a low catch rate multiplier, and in the safari zone, all Pokémon found there can run away, making it a time consuming, but not redundant process. There’s also plenty to do in the game, but no side quests sadly. You need to collect 8 badges from gym leaders (the equivalent to bosses in this game) and some of the bosses are actually a bit challenging (unless of course, you’re using psychic Pokémon) the dungeons also are plentiful and contain many goodies that reward curiosity and exploration. The after game is lacking though, the only thing added is a new dungeon, and the new dungeon is difficult and contains the strongest Pokémon in the game. On the downside, the level curves requires lots of grinding, which artificially makes the game longer, ruins what it has going for it. Over all the game offers quite a bit of content, but there’s a bit of redundancy mixed in and the after game is pretty weak compared to the rest of the game.
DIFFICULTY (5/10)
The game is easy, there I said it. You can easily just grind and beat all the trainers in the game, and using a psychic type, essentially guarantees you’ll win any matchup. Balancing issue are obviously a big factor here, the fact that the special stat makes special attackers both tanks and sweepers makes for a fairly cheap experience overall. The dungeons are hard though, rock tunnel and cerulean cave probably being the top contenders for most frustrating dungeons, each has a maze element and rock tunnel requires flash in order to increase your odds of getting out there alive, while cerulean cave is filled with tough wild Pokémon that only the best of trainers and grinders can navigate through alive. You may experience some trouble early on in the game if you chose charmander and if you forgo catching a nidoran, as brock can kick your butt with his onix, and misty can destroy charmander if you don’t come prepared with a grass or electric Pokémon. But choosing bulbasaur or squirtle will literally make the beginning of the game a cake walk, and this hurts the overall score. And lastly, the game just, isn’t hard; there are no complex quests or strong bosses that can manage even high level fighters, the game was made for kids, and it shows difficulty wise.
OVERALL (3.4/10)
Overall, the game has aged horribly, the graphics are poor, and the sound is average, the gameplay, oh my god the gameplay… The depth is the buried gem in this game and the game’s story is lacking, not mention the game is very easy. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I’ll take criticism as long as it’s constructive =)

Pokémon Review. This is the first ever Pokémon game made.
Graphics - 9/10
The graphics are obviously not going to be great as its old but are great for the Game Boy.
Sound - 8/10
I liked the sound on this game but there was nothing I found myself singing along to while I played. Also none of the music was really epic, but overall pretty good.
Addictiveness - 8/10
I enjoyed playing this game and would often play a minimum 30 minutes a day. However after I completed the game once I didn't find myself playing it anywhere near as much.
Story - 7/10
They do not explain the story very well at the start of the game although its not that hard to figure out after playing for a while.
Depth - 7/10
After you complete the game there is not much to do, apart from catch all the Pokémon. So if you don't like doing that (like me) then there is not much to do after you bet the  Pokémon league.
Difficulty - 7/10
The game is quite easy overall. Especially if you have played Pokémon before.
So overall a good game and well worth playing. Don't get put of by how old it is.

A Retro Review from RetroKid - Pokemon Red   retrokid12
Pokémon Red. This game is what started all these crazy Pokémon shenanigans. We've got near $40 games, expensive dolls, almost as expensive spin-off games, this series costs a lot of money to have. Now, a lot of classic lovers(such as myself) use the term, "Oldie but a goody", but in this game's case, I disagree.
Graphics: 4
Okay, so this game had some graphical issues. I just can't get over some of those in-battle Pokémon sprites. I mean, the out-of-battle sprites are okay, but I still prefer plenty of others(like Kirby's Dreamland). Another thing that bothers me just a little bit is the fact that there are only three or four different menu Pokémon sprites, even on the field.
Sound: 8
Great music. It has some charming music, like when you enter Route 1 or Viridian City, but then there are creepy songs like in Lavender Town and in Lavender Tower. The game has great music that memorable and unforgettable. So it is going to be one of the only good ratings I'll give to this game.
Addictiveness: 3
This game is downright boring. Most Pokemon games are exciting, fun, and addicting, but this one is very boring. I've nothing more to say.
Story: 6
Blah. So You're a kid in a tiny, grassy town that has a Pokemon Professor living right next door(what are the odds?) that gives you your first ever Pokemon after attempting to go explore elsewhere besides your little, boring town. Meanwhile, an "evil" group called Team Rocket wants to steal all the Pokemon for money, but they are weak! Usually the strongest Pokemon you'll encounter with them is a Raticate! And, also, they can't just all the Pokemon overnight! Stuff like that could take YEARS, because there are millions of Pokemon, just like there are humans. What are these guys thinking??
Depth: 9
Okay, so there is SO much to do in this game. Play in the Safari Zone, hunt down variations of Missing No., complete the Pokedex, and, more importantly, become the Champion. But sadly, the only thing that takes a long period of time to do is completing the Pokedex.
Difficulty: 6
Alright, now we must talk about the somewhat easy difficulty. The only REALLY hard things are hunting down Chansey and Tauros, and level grinding. Because when your Pokemon reach level 50 or so, it will takes HOURS just to get a few levelups.
Final Verdict: 5.5
This game had a lot of potential on the Gameboy, but they blew it. Things got better when they released Pokemon Gold & Silver. Tons of people probably hate for writing this review, but whatever.

BEST GAME EVER   rain1
This is the greatest game ever!  It was the first game I ever owned, and the greatest game I've ever played! I could never imagine a better game being made!  That feeling of nostalgia that I get whenever I play it makes me miss my childhood so much! This game literally was my childhood! I could play this for hours upon hours on end and never get bored! Why does the rating have to stop at ten? I give it 11/10 hands down!  vie always been a Pokémon fan since I first got this game, and I always will be! Pokémon > everything!

A flawed game, but a classic   penzycubone
Ahhhh Pokemon red, a classic among Pokemon games. Looking at it now, lets face it... it sucks, ignoring the nostalgia factor and the fact it was the first american Pokemon game, It's an ok at best game.
Graphics-9/10:One of the first Gameboy Games with color so that already makes it high, not to mention some of the sprites looked good like slowpoke and the bulbasaur family, but some looked horrible like Koffing and Sandshrew.
Sound-6/10: For it's time it was OK, some of the tracks were poor (like Pokemon mansion) and others were good (like the battle theme for instance).
Addictiveness-7/10: I can't really describe this category, just think of any other RPG, your hooked until the end
Story-5/10 Your finally turning 10, and you get your Pokemon license to become a trainer, and your goal is to become the Pokemon master, not much else though so it's a bit shallow.
Depth-3/10: Ehh I can't rate this higher, with 151 Pokemon, and the only rematch-able trainers being the elite 4, there's not much to do.
Dificulty-6/10:not too easy but between the rare candy glitch, and wild pokemon you can easily get to the 50s before the 4th gym... although the broken critical hit system and the partial trapping mechanics
Overall-6.4/10:It's not an awful game, but it's not good, between all the glitches, broken aspects of the game, and the over all poor depth keeps it from getting any higher.
Feel free to criticize my review as long as it's constructive, also feel free to disagree with my opinion.

I love this game! As the first Pokémon game you have to remember it was made on the game boy not even the color so it will not have boss graphics. Despite this this game is awesome! There are several hacks that are in this game that are removed in Fire Red and leaf Green (the re-makes). This game inspired a whole army of fans. There are several Pokémon from #001 to #151. There were many things that only this game has. 1st is the whole Giovanni is the 8th GYM Leader. Then there is the whole Blue/Gary/What ever being the champ. Then there is the fact that until X and Y the EXP share only this and Blue (and Yellow I think) had the EXP share give ALL your Pokémon a share. So that's all for now!

Simply attempt to put your bike into the computer at any Pokemon Center. Instead of going in, you will have one in your bag and one in your computer as well.

Clone Pokemon
**THIS GLITCH CAN DELETE YOUR GAME SAVE DATA.**
**This glitch requires 2 Gameboys and a link cable.**

Have one game have a pokémon that you both want (generally a starting pokémon, a legendary, or Mewtwo), and have the other game have a pokémon that you wouldn't miss (as it will be deleted forever). Example: Level 4 Ratatta. Once you both have your appropriate pokémon, enter a trade. Now, trade the bad pokémon for the good pokémon. The screen will flash "Waiting...," and then "Trade Completed." Before it flashes "Trade Completed," the person who originally owned the good pokémon should turn off their Gameboy, or pull out the link cable (turning off the power is the preferred method, but the latter option should work as well). The person who originally had the bad Pokémon should have the message "Trade Completed" on their screen.
If done correctly, both of you should now have the good pokémon. The way this worked is the person who originally had the good pokémon turned off their Gameboy before it could save, so his gamepak doesn't know the trade ever took place. The second person's Gameboy remembers the trade, and has the new Pokémon.

How to Duplicate Items
(Great for master ball and rare candy)
First put an item that you want duplicated in the 6th position of your bag. Next, go to Viridian City and talk to the guy that tells you how to catch pokémon. Tell him you aren't in a hurry. When he's done, fly to Cinibar Island and use surf on the half water half land shore area. When you run into a Missing No. run away. Your 6th item will have a random symbol instead of a number. This means that it is now duplicated. You can use this glitch as many times as you want. *!*You can also use this trick to catch rarer pokémon like Starmie, Taurus, and sometimes one of the starters. (They will usually have insanely high levels so I recommend using a master ball, after all you should have a lot of them!)

Missing No. Kangaskhan
Item's needed for glitch:
Pokemon Red
Master Ball (infinite is recommended)
Rare Candy
---
This can only be done on Red Version of Pokémon. Do the steps described for infinite items. When you encounter the bar shaped thing (also referred to as Missing No.), use a master ball (if you have infinite) and capture the Missing No. ****WARNING: Only do this is if Missing No. is at level 80. Level 0 Missing No. WILL lock your game up. It will say that you captured #### n' #### as it's name will look in the screen. For some reason when attempting to run from a level 0 Missing No. it will continue to attack. The best thing to do is keep trying to run until it works.**** Once you have Missing No. in your party give it a Rare Candy to level it up to 81. Oh wait, it's evolving. After it's finished evolving it becomes... TAA-DAA!! Kangaskhan! This is no ordinary Kangaskhan. It has three attacks; Water Gun, Water Gun (again), and Sky Attack.

How to Re-board the S.S. Anne
To Re-board the S.S. Anne, have a Pokémon that knows Surf with you. Go to the guy who says "the ship set sail." Walk and stand directly in front of him and save. Turn your GB off and back on. Use your SURF Pokémon and hold DOWN. You'll be SURFing on the guy. Press DOWN after SURFing, and you should be in the ship.

Safari Zone Pokémon Easily Caught
1) Go to the Safari Zone and wander around until you run into one of the more rare and hard to catch pokémon.
2) Run away from it and immediately use dig, teleport, escape rope, fly, or anything else that will take you immediately out of the Safari Zone.
3) Surf down to the Seafoam Islands from Fushia City (Use repel if you have it to avoid encounters).
4) Surf up and down the East Coast of Seafoam (Make sure you stay on the very edge so you are half on land half in the water).
5) Your first pokémon encounter should be the pokémon you last saw in the Safari Zone.
***I highly recommend using the infinite item glitch to get loads of master balls first so you don't risk killing your quarry.... or worse being killed by it. Very nice little trick, that will save some serious annoyance when trying to catch Pokémon like Tauros and Ryhorn who don't seem to want to stay in the safari balls.

The top floor of the Pokémon tower is blocked by the ghost of a Marowak, which can't be identified and defeated until you get the Silph Scope in Team Rocket's Hideout. Or apparently not because if you use a Poké Doll item in this fight, with or without the Silph Scope, you'll escape the battle and Marowak will be defeated! With this trick, you can get to the top floor and save Mr. Fuji and get the Poke Flute without ever going into Team Rocket's hideout.

Cut's Secondary Effect
You may already know that Cut cuts down small trees to clear a path for yourself. If you use Cut while standing in a patch of grass, it will cut the grass so you won't encounter Pokémon in that spot. The grass is reset if you leave the area.

Get a diploma
To get the diploma catch 150 Pokémon and see the designer at the mansion in Celedon City. He will then give you the diploma.

Pokemon Red Game Genie Codes

I never got an opportunity to play any of the Gen 1 Pokemon games and having them available here is such a blessing. Thank you Vizzed for letting me play these master pieces. The games does have its faults but It does not take away from the experience.

Experimented with Ditto's Cooltrainer move. Caused screwy effects. Threw a Poké Ball at the Rattata and caught a Hitmonchan.

I'm worried I tried editing the page so I can use a game genie code but I'm worried I might get banned by entering false info because the code might not work

I've tried re assigning the controls, but it has no effect. I love this game, and would hate for this to be the reason I can't play.
c***ywalkslow 03-25-14 - 05:11 PM
when I double click, controls stop working. For instance, I saved the game, then tried to move, and the character stood still. I refreshed the page and loaded the game, and I couldn't get past the title screen because I couldn't press start. Help?
