Humble Beginnings   endings
Mega Man, the hero who is fairly generic, save for his ability to copy his foe's more powerful attacks. The box art looks bad. The hero looks constipated. But here it starts, a platformer where you can do the stages in any order, and the weapons can help you defeat the other stages.
Bomb Man: He's probably the easiest to defeat, and his stage is not very hard. His bomb power sounds very useful, but honestly, aren't. The fire weapon from Fire Man is his weakness, but the boss spends so much time slowly jumping, you shouldn't need it.
Cut Man: This dork has a pair of scissors over his head and he throws them at you. His stage is a little harder than Bomb Man, but his Rolling Cutter is useful. If you have Guts Man's power, Cut Man is a piece of cake.
Guts Man: Some recommend starting here first, I think he has a hard stage, as its full of pits and armored enemies. The boss throws giant rocks at you and stuns you when he lands from a jump. Timing is key for this whole level. Just be aggresive with the boss.
Elec Man: A pretty easy vertical stage, and one you definitely want to come back to with Guts Man's Super Arm ability, as there is a hidden powerup, Magnet Beam near the top of the tower. Elec Man himself has a very strong attack you'll want to jump over. Use the Cutter to kill him.
Ice Man : This stage sucks. The disappearing blocks are numerous and can really waste your time and your life. If the magnet beam has been recovered, it can make steps for you to cheat, haha. You might think a fire weapon hurts Ice man but surprise, its Elec Beam.
Fire Man: This guy has a stage of flowing lava that's a little hard, made easier with magnet beam. His weakness is Ice Slasher, but it still takes quite a few hits.
Mega Man has a heavy jump that takes some getting used to. He can also hang almost completely off an edge with only one foot supporting him, so use that to your advantage.
Graphics: 5
The visuals are kind of murky, save for the brightly colored robots. The bosses are pretty impressive, but this whole series takes it to another level in the sequel. I did like themed stages, like Guts Man has a construction site (seems OK), Fire Man is in a refinery (on point) and then you have Bomb Man in a ... high rise? IDK. Cut Man's level felt very pedestrian and maybe belonging to another game, not really futuristic save for the robots trying to kill you. Megaman looks pretty good, despite his bland green and blue outfit, his bright eyes stand out. The special attacks are nothing special, the Elec Beam looks weird, and the goofy giant bombs give this a cartoon feel.
Sound: 6
I don't think you'll remember very much of the tracks, but I did like Fire Mans. The zapping laser sound of Mega Man's gun is very satisfying, as is the giant explosion when bosses die.
Addictiveness: 7
The ability to chose your own stage, and therefore your own fate, gives a lot of replay. You'll die a lot, since this is the hardest MegaMan game ever, its still the formula you love from all his future games.
Story: 7
Evil Robot Masters take over the city? Robot fighting and stealing power ups? Pretty cool. The guys who are actually behind Mega Man, Dr. Light, play a very small part that could have been stronger.
Depth: 6
Since you might be having trouble with a stage and having a subweapon that handles it, adds some planning and strategy. I'm glad you can't get locked out, like with the Magnet Beam, you can go back to Elec Man's stage even when hes defeated. You can also do the stages in a certain order and help yourself to easier boss fights: GM; CM, EM, IM, FM, BM
Difficulty: 8
This game gets a rap for being very hard, but its really a few scenarios that make it tough. Ice Man's stage is infamous (try doing it first), the infamous Yellow Devil boss fight (Wily stage 1 )is so hard, I can't beat it fairly. But most of the enemies and encounters are not too bad for MM veterans.
Its worth a try, just don't look at the box art pic. It looks like the hero is constipated. The game is rough, but its because this is the genesis, its all uphill from here (unless you like difficulty).

Mega Man: Powerful Beginning   bossrunner
As I've been absent from the board for a while, I thought I'd come back by reviewing all of the NES Mega Man games. So here is the first one! Was it indigenous? Was it a blatant example of naiveté? I will tell you here!
Let's start with the story.
It is the year 20XX, and the science of robotics has advanced to the point where robots can be made to almost any task, and the A.I.'s of some are of almost human level. Two of the world's leaders of this pursuit, Dr. Thomas Light and Dr. Albert Wily, work together and are assisted by Dr Light's humanoid, child-like assistant robots; male Rock and female Roll. Just recently, the two scientists had finished their latest revolution, the Robot Masters, designed to oversee tasks that are very or too dangerous for humans. There are six:
Cut Man, made to moderate forestry.
Guts Man, a construction and reclamation robot.
Elec Man, manipulator of electrical energy to help regulate power plants.
Ice Man, designed for exploring the polar regions.
Fire Man, a smelting robot to melt down waste.
And finally Bomb Man, a demolition and disruption robot.
Because Dr Light was the one that came up with the majority of the project, he was the one credited and praised for their creation. Wily was so jealous of this, that overnight he reprogrammed all six of the Robot Masters to follow his will and help him take over the unnamed city that this game takes place in! (I refuse the name Monsteropolis.) Light felt helpless at what was happening... until Rock, with a strong sense of justice, volunteered to be converted into a fighting robot. Light was reluctant at first, but consented due to the fact that there was no other option. One transformation later, Rock was wearing blue armour, became able to copy the weapons of other robots, and gained the Mega Buster, which he used as inspiration for his new name: Mega Man! Mega Man then set off to defeat all of the Robot Masters and bring Wily what was coming to him.
(Note that no story is provided in-game. I love this robot concept, but the lack of backstory bothers me. For that, I give the story a 6.)
Gameplay
When you start the game, you are presented with a stage-select where you can choose which of the aforementioned Robot Masters you want to chase after. While you may think this as not a big deal, the fact that you can choose your stage order was quite innovative compared to other platformers on the NES at that time. Each stage has its own challenges and boss fight. Once you beat a Robot Master, you gain the ability to use their special ability as long as you have ammo. As well as being useful in different situations, each Master Weapon actually does increased damage to a different boss. This fact is the main draw to Mega Man's replay value. Figuring out which boss is best to take down with your Mega Buster leaves a lot of room for experimentation. Here's a list of what each weapon can do:
The Mega Buster is the default weapon, and you have no ammo for this. It fires a lemon-esque projectile that travels in a straight line, and there can be three on-screen at once. Not the most powerful weapon, but good for taking out basic enemies.
The Hyper Bomb, which you get from Bomb Man, makes you throw a gravity affected bomb that bounces a couple times, stops, and explodes after a few seconds. Unfortunately, this bomb is VERY situational as most enemies constantly move or are in midair.
The Super Arm, which belongs to Guts Man, lets you pick up and throw certain blocks that scatter into four pieces when they hit something solid. You can only use it where the game wants you to, but it can dish out some area damage if aimed right.
The Rolling Cutter, on Cut Man's head, shoots said cutter in a boomerang-like motion. It can take out ground based enemies pretty well, but is a bit of a hassle to use elsewhere.
The Elec Beam, that Elec Man summons, shoots a large beam forward and two smaller ones above and below you. This is widely considered the best weapon of all, because of its multiple directions, high damage and low ammo consumption.
The Ice Slasher that Ice Man is equipped with is very similar to the Ice Beam of the Metroid series. It fires a large icicle that can freeze enemies for easy pickings and fire pillars so you can touch them. It can't be used against any boss but the one that is weak to it, however.
The Fire Storm that Fire Man loves shoots a fireball as well as surrounds you with a fiery shield that does damage for a few seconds. It can't stop projectiles, so be wary.
There is also a tool hidden in Elec Man's stage called the Magnet Beam that creates platforms for about five seconds that you can use to bypass some of the trickier sections. Make sure to find it, because you need it to beat the game!
Let's talk about Mega Man himself. He can run, jump and shoot, and it ends there. You may think it's standard fare for a platformer, but this guy handles a bit different. While running, he has a bit of momentum to him that can get you falling of platforms at first, but you'll adjust. His jump is also a bit heavier, but the stages are designed around this, so no worries. Note that he can't shoot up.
Enemies can also drop items. They're what you expect, balls that are worth 1000 points at the end of a stage, weapon ammo that looks like a six sided shape or a large tank, health refills that have a light bulb look, and extra lives in the form of your severed head.
The main thing you need to look out for in the Mega Man series is spikes. You will hate spikes. While they may just hurt you in other games, you touch one here, you die. Not even invincibility frames will save you. FEAR THEM.
Now that I've told you the basic stuff and all six Robot Masters are done, it's time to invade Dr. Wily's base and take him out! Be warned, though. Your weapon ammo doesn't refill between each of the four Wily stages, and when you beat one, it's on to the next immediately. I'd give you some tips, but that's what a walkthrough is for. Good luck!
Graphics
For the games at the time, Mega Man was pretty decent in its aesthetics. Everything is perfectly clear from the rest, and the animations, while basic, do their job. It's still quite charming today. However, sprite flicker does sometimes rear its head, and that is always an eyesore. I give it an 8 in this regard.
Sound
Oh, man, where do I start? Every piece of music in this game is awesome. The energy of Elec Man, the chill of Ice Man, the beats of Cut Man, every single song is great! Lots of the sound effects are nice to hear to. Feel the power of the Elec Beam! A well deserved 9.
Addictiveness
Trying out different orders of the Robot Masters is entertaining, and it's pretty fun to play in general. I come back to this especially to hear the music! Getting a game over is a bit of a turnoff, however. 7 is my opinion.
Depth
Past the unique stage orders, there isn't a lot to this game. Experimentation is what makes this game a lot more deep. Well- rounded 8 is what I give it.
Difficulty
This game will test you, and without an idea of what you're doing, it will kick your behind. Once you know the tricks, it gets a lot easier to manage.
Verdict
Mega Man is a game that I recommend to any fan of NES platformers. Non-linearity and challenge may scare away newcomers, but be patient and you will see the beauty of this game.

The First Mega Man Game   luigi25

Mega Man was released for the NES near the end of 1987. It is an action-style shooter game where you control Mega Man as he shoots at enemies with his arm cannon. This game is the first in a long running series of games. Capcom released a lot of these games for the NES, but there are also some Mega Man games on the Gameboy and SNES systems as well. When it comes to this first Mega Man game, there are a lot of issues I have with the game's difficulty that keep me from enjoying it all that much. This one feels like isn't as designed as well as the later games and is only for players who are experts that grew up with it.

Graphics 7/10: Mega Man is an early NES game and suffers from the same problems that a lot of these types of games had graphically. The backgrounds aren't as bland and uninteresting as some of the other ones released prior to Mega Man, and you can tell that Nintendo and Capcom were trying to make a better looking game. The sprites aren't all that bad looking, but these backgrounds don't look all that great. I've seen worse looking games, but then, I've seen better. The sprites are okay, but the backgrounds look very dated. For the most part, I have to say that this first game in the Mega Man series isn't a good looking game, but it is kind of passable considering how old it is.

Music 9/10: The first game of the Mega Man trilogy has a soundtrack that sounds pretty good but not as good as the later games. I have played the second game and after going back to this one, I've noticed that the tracks in this game aren't near as good. Don't get me wrong, I love the themes for the Iceman, Cutman, and Dr. Wily's stages, but some of the other songs for the Fireman and Gutsman stages sound very boring. I have mixed emotions about the music of Mega Man 1, but there are probably more good songs than there are bad ones. This is the game's strongest point, and you can say that Mega Man does have a pretty impressive soundtrack that is still pretty decent if not superior to a lot of other retro NES games.

Gameplay 2/10: Mega Man is a different kind of game from a lot of the other ones I have reviewed so far. It is an action-shooter game where you control a robot named Mega Man who shoots at enemies with his arm cannon. There is also a lot of platforming in this game as well. The player starts out the game with the option of playing any level they want to. There is a recommended order to play the stages in that makes things easier. After you beat one of the bosses of the stage, you are given the same ability of the boss in that stage. In other words, you copy their ability kind of similar to a game like Kirby's Adventure when you would inhale an enemy.

Mega Man has an energy meter and also an ammunition meter for each copy ability he has. The arm cannon you start the game with has unlimited ammunition, but the other ones run out after using them so many times. The player has plenty of energy, but after taking so much damage you'll run out and lose a life. There are only about 2 or 3 lives in this game without many opportunities to collect more. Running out of lives will give you a Game Over with the option to play the stage again. You'll be able to retain your copy abilities and items, but you'll have to replay the entire level again before getting another chance to take on the boss.

There is no time limit in Mega Man, but the player has to make their way through the stages without getting hit by enemies. You can clear the path by shooting them with Mega Man's arm cannon. The player also has to avoid bottomless pits and spikes that instantly kill you. You have to do this all while avoiding contact with enemies, and the placement of these enemies are terrible! Not to mention, how difficult the platforming in this game is also. I hate the Gutsman Stage! Those moving platforms are almost impossible to time right! As a mentioned in the introduction, it's like this game is only for experts or very experienced players. It sure isn't designed for beginners, and I think it has God awful level design!

What makes things even worse is that if you don't play these stages in the proper order, you can't beat the game. You need to beat the Bombman Stage in order to defeat Gutsman. The Cutman Stage is by far the easiest, but you still have to go back and play the other areas in order to unlock the final level which is an utter nightmare! The player can play the first 6 stages in any order, but all of them have to be played in order to unlock Dr. Wily's stage. With the 6 main areas, I feel like with a little practice and trial/error things aren't that bad, but Dr. Wily's level freaking sucks! It is full of glitches such as unfair platforms you can fall right through and die!

This is what I hate most about this game. You can avoid a lot of this by grabbing the Magnet Beam which is found in the Elecman Stage. The Magnet Beam is the only way to get through the Iceman and Fireman Stages. This is why it is necessary to play these levels in this order: Bombman, Gutsman, Cutman, Elecman, Iceman, and Fireman. You need certain items and abilities in order to successfully complete these stages. Otherwise, Mega Man is an impossible game to beat (I think it is still impossible no matter how you play it). I've never gotten any further than Dr. Wily's castle, and that's why I can't get that much enjoyment out of this game. I know that I can't beat it, and it is designed in a way that makes a lot of players want to give up.

I think it took me forever to beat the Gutsman Stage, and I needed the Gutsman ability to get the Magnet Beam. The controls in Mega Man made it very difficult to time the moving platforms at the beginning of this level. Mega Man is so slippery it is frustratingly difficult to control where he lands. Like I mentioned before, the moving platforms on the Iceman Stage are fall-through! If Mega Man gets hit while he is riding one of these things, he'll fall to his death! I don't mind a game being hard for the right reasons, but this is a game that shouldn't be so hard. It feels like Capcom was still in its experimental phase with the Mega Man games.

All this game really amounts to is re-playing these stages again and again because you hardly have any lives, it is impossible to not die because of glitches and other problems in the game, and the way the enemies attack you makes it impossible to avoid taking damage and losing all your energy. As I already stated, Dr. Wily's Castle is as far as I have ever gotten with this game. The first boss on that stage requires a lot of memorization in order to defeat him. If you die on this part and use up your limited supply of lives, you have to play this level (which is full of glitches and other platforming issues) all over again in order to fight this next to impossible boss fight again!

I have found that over time this game does not get much easier, and it is not a fun game. The platforming takes forever to get used to, and you'll probably find yourself dying a lot about every time you play. I still cannot finish this game, but as I said before, the main 6 stages of the game have tolerable difficulty. The final level was where I lost interest in the game and just gave up! This is a game with very poor level design and gameplay due to its insane amount of difficulty. The only ones who like this Mega Man game are the players that grew up playing it as a kid not people like me who are new to the franchise. For newcomers like myself, I don't recommend playing Mega Man unless you just want to be trolled!!

Story 8/10: The setting of Mega Man is in the future where robots have been created to assist mankind. Some of these robots go mad and start attacking people. Dr. Light discovers the evil Dr. Wily is the one responsible for this. So, he converts his helper robot into Mega Man and equips him with an arm cannon to stop Dr. Wily and his 6 evil robots from destroying the human population. You have a plot here that is about like that of a lot of other games. It is sort of creative in a way but still pretty ordinary. The setting is pretty cool, but there isn't much else about that is all that catchy. Like many other storylines, it isn't all that important and is okay but nothing groundbreaking.

Content 5/10: Mega Man consists of only 7 different levels which are fairly lengthy. They are: Bombman, Gutsman, Cutman, Elecman, Iceman, Fireman, and Dr. Wily's Castle. In total, this game takes only about 30 minutes to successfully finish. That isn't a lot of content for a video game, and this is another area where the game fails. This is a game that is pretty short for people who are familiar with it. I feel like many who have completed this game feel like there isn't much to it. Maybe they get a lot of enjoyment out of it, but I feel like players who have played the other Mega Man games probably get more out of those games than they get out of this one. The first one seems to lack a lot of content that the later games had.

Difficulty 10/10: I've already talked about how the difficulty keeps this game from being all that fun to play, and it really does become a big problem. The controls are way too slippery, some of the stages are very long meaning you have to go back a long way even if you can still continue upon losing all your lives, a good many of the platforms are fall-through, and the enemy placement makes it impossible to avoid taking damage. The thing I hate the most is the way it is almost impossible to avoid the attack pattern of the enemies in this game unless you have this crap memorized! All these things really make Mega Man a hard game to play for just about anybody unless you're an expert or a very experienced Mega Man player!

Overall 6.2/10: This first Mega Man game falls into the same category as many other first games in any of the game trilogies. There are players who get too caught up in the nostalgia factor of this game to realize how badly designed it is. However, unlike with quite a lot of other first games, many feel like I do too. Mega Man 1 does have a good soundtrack and decent plot, but the way it is such a hard game to play is what makes me give it a pretty low score. Capcom was still developing these games, and I heard that Mega Man 1 and 2 were both being worked on at the same time. Maybe this was the prototype for the second game which I felt like was way better. Anyway, this game feels out of date and isn't as good as the later ones.

Mega Man, a great Classic!   tyranit
Here it is folks, the one that started it all, Mega Man (or Rock Man in Japan) came out in 1987 and was not extremely well received, but was a great game nonetheless. I am going to get into some really great aspects of the game that revolutionized the video game industry. First of all, you could choose which level you would like to go to in any order, kind of like Duck Tales, but had a rock paper scissors effect to it, having the bosses have weaknesses to another boss' weapon. Now let's hop into the review!
Graphics - 8: The staple of the series until Mega Man 7 was this 8-bit greatness that was the NES' hardware capacity. The enemies' sprites look very well done, the bosses do to, as well as Mega Man himself! The stages in the game look fantastic and do not put a strain onto your eyes while playing. I rate the graphics of Mega Man 1 an 8/10.
Sound - 10: It's Mega Man music, what else can I say? The music is to imitate rock No roll, as the names in Japan of Rock Man and Roll. Elec Man's stage also sounds like Faithfully by Journey (but most Mega Man fans know that by now.) I give the sound of Mega Man 1 a perfect score, 10/10!
Addictiveness and Replayability - 9: I say that the way you can challenge the six bosses will make for replaying the game because you can take different bosses down in different orders, except for the Wily Stages, which makes sense because it is a castle, even though you don't see any castle. It also is fun to do little challenges through the game, such as no dying, no missing with any weapons, and no getting hit! In fact, a man named Roahmmythril has done perfect runs of every boss in Mega Man 1-10! I give Addictiveness and Replayability a 9/10.
Story - 5: There is no story in the game, besides you have to stop Dr. Wily from doing any evil things while you beat the reprogrammed bosses. *SPOILERS* I am going to tell the basics of the story. First, Dr. Wily and Light went to the same college, same field, and Dr. Light was always surpassing Dr. Wily, which was making Dr. Wily jealous, so when Dr. Light created Bomb Man, Guts Man, Cut Man, Elec Man, Ice Man, and Fire Man, Dr. Wily reprogrammed them to do his evil bidding, so Dr. Light decided to change his preexisting robot Rock, into Mega Man to stop Dr. Wily from taking over the world. So I give the Story a 5/10 since the story is told in cut-scenes in later games, making it a little more relevant than no story told whatsoever. *END SPOILERS*
Depth - 5: There are not really multiple pathways, because the pathways are mostly on the same screen, so you can see the alternative path while you are on your own path. So I give the Depth a 5/10.
Difficulty - 8: This game is really hard if you are a casual gamer, but if you are a gamer who plays games every day,  this is not too hard, but is still a bit of a pain in some sections, but the bosses are so easy with their weaknesses, so if you want a difficult game, don't use special weapons! I rate the difficulty an 8/10.
Overall - 9: I love this game, I love the series, besides the number of glitches that you can find if you try hard enough, this game seem perfect in every way, so I give Mega Man 1 a 9/10, a solid game, but a little too hard.
                                                                                                                              Thank you for reading!

25 years ago, the Blue Bomber was born.   Azul Fria
OVERVIEW

The game that started it all for the Blue Bomber known as Mega Man aka Rockman in Japan. Unlike its sequels to come, you start off fighting against six robots before going to face off against Dr. Wily who had reprogrammed them to wreak havoc on Monstertropolis so he can take over the world but we ain't having any of that are we?

The game's six bosses are (in order of creation): Cut Man – quick robot with clippers on his head that he tosses, Guts Man – big strong looking robot who tosses rocks and shakes the ground which momentarily stuns you, Ice Man – looks like an Eskimo who throws ice wedges in threes, Bomb Man – has a Mohawk and jumps around tossing bombs that only hurt if you're an inch away, Fire Man – has a torch on his head and sends walls of fireballs, and Elec Man – looks like a rip off of Flash but throws deadly bolts.

Graphics - A-

I really liked the graphics in the game though I honestly thought the color usage what a little bit too bland for some levels. Almost like some one took the colors and put a washed out filter on them. It was a good idea to have Mega Man change colors to match the weapon that he is currently using such as red & yellow for Fire Storm (from Fire Man) and blue & white for Ice Slasher (from Ice Man).

Controls - A

The controls are very simple. What is good is if you think you jumped to far, you have time to steer yourself back in time in most situations. There's also that oh so famous select button cheat where if you fire a weapon each time you hit select to pause as the weapon hits then unpausing it will cause the same weapon to hit again as it passes through the enemy every time the game is unpause. I beat the game easily with this method.

Gameplay - A-

Each robot is weak to another's weapon. This rock-paper-scissors concept would be another of the series niches.  In this first game, the boss weaknesses made sense. Guts Man > Cut Man (rock > scissors) - two hits, Cut Man > Elec Man (cut the wire) - three hits, Elec Man > Ice Man (electricity running through water) - three hits, Ice Man > Fire Man (ice melts into water and puts out fire) - seven hits, Fire Man > Bomb Man (fire lights fuse and bomb goes boom) - seven hits, and Bomb Man > Guts Man (dynamite blows up rocks or in this case construction worker) - three hits. The fat lady hasn't sung yet for Wily just yet. Now you got to fight through four more stages to get to him and one of those bosses you have to face is none other than the Yellow Devil who will be several more appearances within the franchise. Ironically, this version is the toughest of them all due to the lack of features to come and dodging the blob parts were a little bit tougher.

Difficulty - 4

The game was in opinion the 2nd most difficult game in the series due to the lack of a password feature that would be introduced in Mega Man 2. The game also had what would eventually become useless features: points and score balls. Both of them would be taken out of the series after this game. You also lack the slide (introduced in Mega Man 3) and the charge shot (introduced in Mega Man 4). Both features would've made this game very easy. Also in this first game, if Mega Man's footing is taken from under him, he will plummet rapidly instead of fall down. This lead to easy deaths via pitfall or spikes. Speaking of spikes, you had no immunity against them even when you had just taken damage which normally rendered you temporarily immune to anything else until you recovered. The Guts Man fight was hell as he knocked you flat on your ass if you are on the ground when he lands from a jump. Capping off the difficulty is that you had to fight four of the six bosses in a row before taking on Wily. Luckily, if you died fighting Wily, you didn't have to fight those four again.

Sound/Music - B+

The soundtrack in my opinion is a little so-so. The only theme that really wasn't good in my opinion was Guts Man's. It was too redundant and too short, it gets extended when Mega Man: Power Fighters comes out. The rest of the robot bosses on the other hand were awesome. Fire Man and Ice Man's fit their stages to a T. Elec Man's theme sounds inspired by a number of radio songs like "All the Right Friends" by REM & "Faithfully" by Journey, Cut Man's sounds Latino-influenced and Bomb Man's has a little bit of Rome-based influence.

Replay Value - A+

No doubt about it, this game is addictive as they come. First time players will be addicted to it because they will be experimenting how well the bosses' weapons have an effect on other enemies including bosses and get a chance to use them for other purposes. Ice Slasher for example can be used to freeze flames in place to use as platforms and it can also be used to freeze enemies for you to switch to another weapon to kill them. It don't work on bosses though.

Overall - A

Here's a fun fact: Did you know that Capcom had only planned to make one Mega Man game and that was it? It would have been that way until Keiji Inafune started drawing up concepts for a sequel called Mega Man 2 and the people of Capcom decided to give the game the green light under the condition that Inafune helped produced some of Capcom's other games. With that being said, I myself had a great time playing this game and it was fortunate that although this game did not warrant a sequel, one was made and guess what? It was that game that marked the beginning of Mega Man craze just like how Street Fighter 2 would do the same for it's franchise. Fight on, Mega Man. Fight for everlasting peace.

A look at the first Mega Man game for the NES   Zircron Swift
This game is a classic slid-scrollin' shooter/slightly RPG game that had interesting properties that other games didn't have at the time. Is this game worth playing? Lets have a look. You play a blue and cyan super fighting robot warrior named Mega Man, created by Dr. Light, that must defeat the evil Dr. Wily, who is hell bent on taking over the world (of course). He has created 6 Robots that each have their own powers and weaknesses. It is your job to defeat all the Robot Masters and their stages, break into Wilys castle, and bring him down before takes over the world.
This game allows you to choose what stage you would like to fight. This adds some edge to the game play. After you defeat a Robot Master, you gain their powers. You can access these powers by pressing start and picking it there. Each boss has his own weakness to a weapon. Some are easy to work out, like fire on bomb, but some don't quite make sense. Like cut on electric. Shouldn't that be the other way around?  I mean, cut would be made out of metal, which is a conductor.....unless it means that electric man uses wires, and cut man would cut off those wires.....It's always fun to figure out why that power works to well to that Robot Master, even though it doesn't matter why. Try it out next time your playing a Mega Man game. It's a nice little exercise. So this has a good replay value to figure out which order to go in is best. You can even play the stage you once defeated again. At first, this might seem only to gain more points, but later you figure out that one of the Wily Castle stages are impossible with out a special weapon that is in electric mans stage, which requires......Accurately, I'm going to let you figure it out.
Now, the design of theses levels are pretty nice. The enemies are also nice, a combination of flying pac-mans and black blobs in yellow helmets clearly says something about there creativity. They normally bear similarities to the Robot Master and are challenging at first, but you get used to them and can complete it after a game over or two.....Until you play ice mans stage. This stage is completely unfair. The first half is ok, in fact pretty easy, but when you get to the part when you have to jump on these green flying platform that shot on their sides......that's when this game reveals its true colours. I mean, they have no pattern what-so-ever, they fire from their sides - which also are random - so you have to jump to avoid them, but as they have no pattern, that jump could cost you a life. Then after jumping on four of them, you have to jump on four more, only find there are some missile bird things that you need to dodge. This makes it harder than it needs to be. You could jump to dodge them, but you could land on one of those bullets, causing you to fall off. You could attack those missile bird things, but they explode on impact/killed, so you could get hit by those explosions and you could fall off. You could attack them, jump around them, then land on them without flaw, but then you realize that you need to jump again because of those darn flying platforms are about to attack, and in a state of panic, you jump in the wrong direction then try and get back on, only to get hit by those pesky unpredictable bullets!
There is a way to get round this easily, you need that......I'll let you work that out for yourself (sorry, no spoilers! =D). Now, the music. The music is awesome. Full stop. Period. Comma. Explanation....The music works well with the stage it is given. Just play fire mans stage and bomb mans stage and you'll see what I mean. In fact, the music was so great, a video game band known a The Megas made a cover on some of the music in this game. It was interesting to see them add lyrics to them, each Robot Master having a personality and how Dr. Wily didn't really want to take over the world, but instead think mans time has ended and Robots should now rule the earth, and stated that Mega Man was a murderer for killing his "sons". You kinda feel sorry for Dr. Wily after hearing this song. That's a sign of good lyric writing, and as they couldn't have made that song without that music, makes this game responsible for that song. That is how good this music is. Of course, the second games music is legendary to say the least. But lets just say that the first game was the start of epic music for video gamesin the future.
The controls are slightly stiff. Your jumps are quiet heavy meaning you have to time them very well in order to get further. The powers you get from the Robot Masters are nicely done. Sometimes they are simple like firing fireballs from your Arm Cannon, and others are a little more unique. Take Guts man for example. When I first got his power, I though it was to punch people. But when nothing happened I didn't know what to do. Then I realized that you could pick up certain objects while having this power. It's always satisfying to pick up something and throw it at something a quarter the size. Which brings me to......the difficulty!
This game is seriously hard. If you though that the Robot Master stages were easy, then the real challenge begins at Wilys Castle. The first stage is probably the hardest. You must tackle jumps that threaten you with fire unless perfectly jumped, and *sign and talks coldly calm*, those green flying platforms and *signs again* SPIKES! SPIKE! SPIKES! I hate spikes. I hate them for killing instantly even though you  touch the side of them or something......And in this game, it's even worse. Normally, when you get hit, you "blink" or "flash". This gives you  temporal invincibility for a second or two, or what we call "recovery time". In Mega Man 2, when you were hit, you could walk on spikes until the recovery timer went off, giving you enough time to get out of there. In this game, when you get it, and land on spikes.....You die. Yep, you don't get recovery time for that, you just die. CRUEL! In fact, of spikes are so effective, why doesn't Dr. Wily make a Robot Master out of them? there was needle man in the third game, but that's not spike man. An why can't he just make a corridor out of them, with no  platforms? He must have.....Stupid Evil Villain Syndrome! At the end of this stage you'll probably meet one of the hardest bosses you'll ever have the misfortune to fight. The Yellow Devil. I could have defeated this boss legibly, but it was getting late, and I wanted to defeat this game, and I didn't know about save states then. So I used the pause bug and-
*Audience booing*
All right, ALL RIGHT. I cheated, lets just move along. The stages in Wilys castle are - what I think - are better than the stages themselves. I
mean, you get to fight......I'll let the surprise of that get you when you come to it =D Overall I give this game a 8.5/10 This game is hard, but offers a good challenge for those hard-core gamers out there. The music is great and the graphics are swell. I would recommend this game to any Mega Man fan. Although not the best, it is definitely worth a look if you like mega man. it has a lot to offer. Check it out.

I am Mega Man. Now feel my MegaBuster.   chaoscontrolx
Looks like we're looking at one of the most iconic video game series' to date. And one of the most hardest at that. You guessed it! It's Mega Man! A franchise I respect for a huge amount of reasons. The epic stages, the awesome soundtrack, the emotional characters and even it's ability to make it's story progress with each game and allow itself to make SENSE. Yeah that's right I'm looking at you Zelda. But we aren't here to talk about other franchises here no. We're here to talk about the Blue Bombing rainbow color robot we know as Mega Man. Now let's begin.
Plot: Back then who gave a care in the world about plot? Not many people unless you watched a lot of deep movies. Like Mario or even Sonic for that matter, the plot of Mega Man wasn't to complicated. It wasn't nearly as unoriginal as Mario's stories are, or anywhere near as complicated as Zelda, but it is still a game that can tell compelling stories. So here is where it all starts out.
2 scientific geniuses, Dr. Thomas Light and Dr. Albert Wily (notice a pattern here) have discovered the creation of industrial working robots with the addition of Rock and Roll. However Dr. Light is the only one who receives credit for these amazing robots. So Dr. Wily devises a plan. A plan to steal all 6 of their robots, Gutsman, Cutman, Elecman, Bombman, Fireman, and Iceman, in order to take over the world. Now Rock, wanting everlasting peace for both Humans and Robots alike, wants Dr. Light into a super fighting robot. Understanding his feelings for the world, the doctor transforms him into the super fighting robot were all know today as Mega Man. Thus results in the destruction of the industrial robots and the foiling of Dr. Wily's evil schemes.
Game Play: We all know how side scrollers can be. But how does Mega Man affair? Well to most people, Mega Man is the King, yes I said it, the KING of the sidescrolling genre. Give mario a slap to the face because we a taking a whole new direction into the meaning of side scroll.
Unique to his franchise, (and metroid in a way) Mega Man has a different way of game play. It's all in the famous gun on his left hand known as the Mega Buster. The weapon that allows him to shoot tons of weapons from the robot masters. Weather it be a sharp pair of scissors or a Dark Void that sucks things up. Anything can have a free chance of being sent out of that deadly gun. However when he doesn't use robot master weapons? He shoots plasma when he hasn't any weapons to use to his disposal. And I must say, it works pretty fine compared to the other weapons. You can take down every, and I mean every robot master in the game. (as long as you know how to abuse their movements) Not that it makes it nearly as useful as the weapons you get. Now how about we list some of these powers and see what they are useful for?
Cut Man: A pair of scissors that can be used like a boomerang. However it is only useful for defeating Elecman.
Gutsman: This gives you the power to lift strong rocks and completely cream Cut Mam. (Necessary to get a special weapon. That is also necessary to beat the game...)
Elecman: A blast  of electricity that's is as powerful as a TANK. Most spend their time using this weapon against other enemies for it's the strongest weapon in the game. Also used to beat IceMan.
IceMan: A beam that freezes enemies in place no matter where they are. In the air or on the ground this thing will freeze it. Also used to beat
FireMan. (You know. Because screw logic. Am I right?)
Fireman: I must make a mote of this. Future installments in the series allow a charged shot. Mega Mans 1 - 3 do not do this. However, with FireMan's weapon you can preform a charged fire shot. It's the closest thing to a charging Mega Buster we will get in this game. (Well technically it is but you get the idea) This is also good for blowing up Bomb Man and igniting that switch.
Bomb Man: A bomb that can be thrown a medium sized range away from you. Blow up Guts Man if you have this weapon.
Magnet Beam: No audience. Don't start whining about how Magnet Man is in Mega Man 3. I understand that. But Magnet beam is something exclusive to Mega Man 1 OK? Now, Magnet Beam is something that if you hate backtracking, you're going to need GutsMan's power to obtain. Or Elecman's but like I said, backtracking. During Elecman's stage there are these rocks that you can pick up with GutsMan's power to obtain the magnet beam. Now this weapon is also necessary to beat the game. It shoots a beam of electricity that can be used like a platform to go over things. (Would've been useful in Mega Man 2 CapCom...) This can be used on walls, and even the air. Just make the platform as long as you want.
Sound: On the NES standards, this soundtrack was amazing. Especially considering the fact that it could only compose 3 notes. Just listen to CutMan and IceMan's stage themes. It's nearly impossible to stop! Now let's take a look at the themes from Mario and Zelda. Sure they were awesome themes to hear, but the Mega Man themes are just so more preferable. It shows a lot more variety than the other two games would. The only theme that would remain is the boss theme and robot master theme. But that's about it. Now take your other two cartridges out of there and put Mega Man in the slot!
Addictiveness: Mega Man itself is an addictive piece of cake. I mean think of it as Pac-Man, only it's a complete game. A blue bombing robot who fights robot masters and obtains weapons is something everyone should enjoy. And it only gets better from here. Let's take something like castlevania for example. As fun as that game may be to others. It's not something I look for in the NES. It's too slow paced, and leaves me on a conveyance note. By all means Mega Man isn't the fastest thing alive, but more action happened with his games. It was always around the corner and something you could enjoy.
Depth: I'm not saying much here because, well think of it. Mega Man is just a robot who collects weapons, jumps ans shoots. (+1 for anyone who get's the reference) Now if this was Mega Man X this category would go straight to the top. But I can't really say this game has more depth than Zelda now can I? You can't possibly keep a straight face and tell me this game has more depth than a series like that? Bur it did make an improvement from earlier titles like Mario.
Difficulty: Run away Sonic because this game's difficulty has taken your spikes from Green Hill Zone and shoved it up Mega Man's hand. Everything. EVERYTHING about this game is hard. For hardcore gamers? A bit less hard. Now let me get one thing straight. I know I will drive yo up the roof by saying this. But I find these games harder to beat than Mega Man X. Maybe it's because I'm more used to that series than Classic, or simply because of the dash... But MM Classic is much more difficult than MMX. The robot master stages won't give me a break, those inconveniently placed bottomless pits...(Dang it I can never make that jump!) Everything in this game is replaced with a difficulty spike. And don't even think you will have an easy time with the Yellow Devil simply by watching tons of YouTube videos on it. You want hardcore? Than Mega Man is declared your best friend here.
Now, for 1987, when Mega Man came out. There were few good games with the released of the NES. But has the series aged well? that is all up to the fans, viewers, and others who find enjoyment from this here blue robot. Myself? I love this series to no end. No matter how simple the story gets, how hard the game is, even how much the game has to offer. If you're gonna start of with a plat-former, star off here. I can make sure that you will be satisfied in the end. Now work up that viz and get yourself Mega Man ASAP! Take your MegaBuster and send your cartridge out of it!

The start of a hero   DoubleD1997
Mega Man has always been a great franchise for Nintendo but today we're going to look at where it all began. This is my review.
Graphics 8
The graphics are good they they make very good detail of Megaman and also the enemies are so creative! they look so hilarious and hard to take seriously. I'm talking about flying smiley heads, huge gorillas. etc. When you look at these enemies you feel like wow Nintendo really went creative with these enemies. I feel like that they can't be taken seriously as enemies but definitely comedic wise which is not a bad thing I mean don't you like to laugh in a video game? I know I do.

Sound 10
This game has amazing music. It has the catchiest themes, mostly all the themes are played in a major tone so you feel happy most of the time while playing. What makes the music better than other NES games is that the themes are backed up by background music which gives the music more epicness.
Addictivness 9
This game is super fun it give very good side scrolling gameplay and what makes it more fun is that you have a bunch of more gadgets that you can use to defeat your enemies with as you grow closer and closer to the final level. It gives the player choices on what bosses they would want to fight which is different from other games but also very good. What makes it good is that in other games that you play that you have already beaten you already what to expect. IN MegaMan you can choose what level you want to play which gives the gamer a choice and as we gamers we always like options in video games.
Story 8
The story is your typically evil man wants to take over the world kinda thing. It is basiccly A man named Dr. Wily who wants world domination and has created six robots to assist him in the plan. So a guy named Dr. Light created a Robot named MegaMan that will help stop Dr. Wily and his evil plans. The story is simple which is not a bad thing but some creativity would of been nice.
Depth 8
The game can be kinda refereed to as a RPG game because like what I said you get to choose the level and after every level that you beat you obtained the villain's powerup which are weakneses to other bosses so the game also allows you to figure out what to use against other bosses. It gives the player to think What should I use? which makes the game's depth so good.
Difficulty 9
Okay this game does not mess around it can be pretty hard in like basically every level if you are not good at platformers. What makes it good is that the game doesn't focus on a certain spot to be hard the game focuses on every aspect of the game to be hard. I'm talking about the enemies are hard jumping platform to platform can be hard the bosses are hard. dodging hazards can be hard. The game makes sure that mostly every part is difficult in its own way. The reason I gave it a nine is that when you are in a boss battle and you have a powerup you know will beat him the battle only lasts like 10 seconds but imagine the difficulty of getting that powerup? That is why this game is hard.
Overall 9
This game is super fun it will challenge you and give you enjoyment at the same time which is what we like. This is one of many Megaman games so if you play this first one you can see why there was so many installments MegaMan 1 gets a 9 out of 10.

Mega Fun, for good reasons   TrollStoneProdu..
When the popular developer Capcom first introduced Mega Man in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, it was... different from other games on the system, but would start an entire genre, dare I say, of platform shooter games. The first thing that struck me about Mega Man was the story. There was almost an absence of one. Just a small cut-scene about how Dr. Wily creates 6 Robot Masters to take over the world int the year 20XX. After just shrugging it off and thinking, "Well, maybe it's just a casual game that isn't big on story, that's all." Then I realized how hard this game was. However, this game actually taught you so well, you could become a master at this game almost immediately! The game has 6 levels, 6 bosses, and then the big ending battle with Dr. Wily, yet still could last for hours even due to the limited space on a cartridge. The games teaching tools were visual. Rush in, and you learn the hard way. Be careful, and you would see what obstructed your path, what challenged and how to beat it. You learned by playing. The graphics and sprites were superior, with Mega Man 2 and up boasting amazing visuals for games of its system. And I'm not saying NES games were typically ugly, the were appealing and worked well with what they had. The music was brilliant, an so were the sound effects, not just a catchy tune being played on a loop, but fully original chip tune songs that you would find yourself humming for days after being immersed in this masterpiece. This game was a blast to play, with many different strategies depending on which Robot Maters you beat first and which powers you used on them. (Yes, Mega Man was the game with the genius mechanic of letting the player learn and use the weapon of past-defeated Robot Masters and using them against others.) Each robot had a weakness, so choosing which one to fight first was important. Using others weapons had certain advantages not just against Robot Master, but normal enemies as well, for example, Bomb Man's weapon was slow firing but packed heavy damage. Elecman's weapon went multiple directions and could hit enemies directly above your head, and Gutsman's weapon could destroy certain blocks allowing you to progress further and to alternate paths. Use an ability too much, and you run out requiring you to get V-Tanks, which could refill weapon energy. The game offered an incredible amount, short puzzles that also involved shooting, just to keeps things exciting, and many different enemy types to keep you on your toes and establish the sense that you never knew everything there was about Mega Man. The advanced learning system and difficulty are what make this game a gem in today's modern world.

The first Mega Man (Game Review)   tornadocam
The first Mega Man game that introduced us to Mega Man. A review of Mega Man one
Story: 6
Well the plot in this story comes from the manual not from the game. Unlike other and future Mega Man games the first one does not have an intro that introduces the player to the plot. Dr. Light and Dr. Wily are well known robotic scientists both have won rewards. Dr. Light has won more awards. They created 8 robots (9 if you include Proto Man). The names of the Robots are Cut Man, who is a lumber cutting robot, Guts Man, a construction robot, Ice Man, an arctic explorer, Bomb Man, a robot used for demolition, Fire Man, waste disposal robot, and Electric Man, a power control robot.  Rock and Roll were lab assistant robots to Dr. Light. Wanting power Dr. Wily takes the 6 robots to take over the world. Dr. Light modifies Rock into a fighting robot and he takes on the name Mega Man. Mega Man goes out to stop the evil plans of Dr. Wily. Okay if nobody read the manual, lets face it who reads manuals, okay some of us do, the player would be lost since the story is not clear. That is were the story and plot suffers. One has to read the manual to get the point. Mega Man 3 did  not have an intro either. However, unlike 3 the first game should have had an intro. Mega Man 3 did not really need an Intro because if people have played other Mega Man games they already knew what the plot was. Mega Man one though needed an intro segment because it was the first one. At least the story from the manual is nice.

Graphics: 4
I hate to say this but this  had the worst graphics of any Mega Man game I have played. The backgrounds do not have real good color. A lot of the times the graphics and sprints are very glitchy. People who have played this game know what I mean especially in Ice Man's stage. But, the graphics are not to good in this game. Their is also a lot of lag in this game. Ice Man stage has a lot of lag, so does Guts man, and even Electric Man's stage has serious lag. The controls are not very good either.. A lot of times mega Man looks like he is slow and stiff. For example when he jumps from one platform to another or when he fires. Now, I did not suspect killer graphics because this game came out in 1987 the NES was still young, and this was the first game. However, I was hoping the controls would be decent. Thankfully Capcom fixed this in future Mega Man games and they fixed the glitches and lag too.

Sound: 6
Okay two stages, maybe 3,  really saved this from getting a lower rating.  Ice Man's and Electric Man's stage music were very memorable and very good. I could also make an argument for Fire Man's stage. Everything else  not so much. A lot of times it even feels like the sound is lagging to the music. The sound in Mega Man one feels scratchy compared to other Mega Man games. Mega Man 3, 4, 5 and 7 all had very excellent sound. I know this is the first game. But, seriously Capcom should have made better sounds. Another bad sound is those annoying platforms in Gut's Man stage those just make you want to put ear plugs in your ears. The bad thing is the Wily games have sounds that tingle. The enemies firing back sounds more like a tingle. So I wrestled with the rating for this one. Due to three stages having solid sound and music I gave it a 6. Thankfully, Capcom fixed the sound in other Mega Man games.

Addictieness: 5
I find myself not playing this one as much as the other Classic Mega Man games. It is nice to go back and see how Mega Man started. I also think it is nice going back to see how well the graphics have improved since Mega Man one. However, this game is short and not as long as other future Mega Man games. The poor Graphics and mediocre sound takes the replay value down on this one. It should be noted that this is the only Mega Man game that keeps score, so that can be fun. For me it just feels awkward. I guess because other Mega Man games do not keep track of scores like they do in other non mega Man games.

Depth: 4
Okay future Mega Man games had 8 stages and then the fortress stages. Mega Man 4-6 had two fortress stages in them.  Mega Man One suffers in depth. There are no extra power ups in this game. The only power up is the platform weapon. Other Mega Man games had power ups. There are not other items to collect either. Mega Man one only has 6 stages and then the Wily stages. So it is a short game. Thus, the depth of this game is so so.

Difficulty: 9
Now here is were the first Mega Man game shines. It is difficult. A lot of the difficulty comes from the games unpredictable springs and glitches. For example, it looks like the player landed safely on a platform but then they fall through into the pit despite making it. Then there is the unpredictable sprints. Sometimes springs move awkward Ice Man' stage is noted for that. Unlike other Mega Man games were the player could get hit on purpose and turn invisible for a few seconds to clear a tough spot, well you can not do that in this game. If you get hit and land on spikes you lose a life. The enemies in this game just love to knock you into spikes or the pits. The bosses can be tricky. Ice Man and Electric Man and maybe Fire Man are very tough to beat without their weaknesses.  The Wily stages are also hard. So while the game is not so good in other areas. It makes up for it in the difficulty rating. I had a very tough time playing this game.

Overall: 6
Okay here is my take on this game. Is Mega Man One a horrible game, not really. Is Mega Man one a great game, no not really. It is so-so. I do not hate this game. But, the graphics, springs, controls and sounds could have been better. If a player is playing this as their first Mega Man game they probably will not  notice these things. However, a lot of people, including myself, played Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3 before playing this one. After playing other Mega Man games players get spoiled to their level. This was an okay start for the franchise. But it was Mega Man 2 that is credited for starting Mega Man great run in gaming. So would I recommend this game. I'm so so on that I think the players have to be their own judge. If you want to see how Mega Man got his start and how well the graphics have improved by all means play this game. If you think this game is fun, which it does have its moments, then play and enjoy. However, if you are new to Mega Man and want a good game to learn the controls. I would recommend playing Mega Man 2 instead if you are new. So to sum, it up, I did not expect this game to be as good as the others since it was the first. But, I thought it would be better, it is not a bad game but not a gem either. Thankfully, Capcom fixed a lot of these problems in future Mega Man games.

Mega Man Review   SuperVizzedWorld
Ah, good old fashioned Mega Man. Released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1987.
Let's look at the controls. They aren't bad at all! A to jump, press B to shoot, and the d-pad to move. Use Start to pause the game and be gave the option to switch to a different weapon. Pressing Select instead of Start will pause everything, you just can't choose different weapons.
There are 9 stages in the game, 9 fun stages. They are hard, but no worries! The game is still enjoyable and fun! The story isn't that huge, but it's still good. The game is very addictive, I can't stop playing it. It's fun. Remember that when you defeat a robot master, you get their weapon. The music is great, you will love it. The sound is actually very good for a NES game. The graphics aren't that bad. In fact, they are some of the best graphics I have seen for a 80s game. The game isn't big, but still enjoyable. And it's also very buggy, and has lots of glitches in it. One of the most famous glitches is the pause trick, which I don't use. Shoot a weapon that goes through enemies, and then press select while the weapon you fired is in the enemy. Wait for their temporary invincibility to be over. Press select again and it will double the damage. You can do it more then twice. You can kill Ice Man with one Electric Beam doing this. Another glitch, get the Magnet Beam in Elec Man's stage, then go to Ice Man's stage. When you reach the place where it's one more drop to the boss area, (where that 1-up is) take out the Magnet Beam. Climb back up the corridor using it. Then, touch the platform where the 1-up is (you won't be able to see yourself doing it) the game will think you have dropped into the next room, and show the screen going down. You will skip the big eye. There are many more glitches, but I can't list them all here. Overall, this is a fun addictive game. I suggest you play it.

The blue bomber   Xiledx
Hey guys, xiledx here, and here is my review for the first game the blue bomber was in: Mega man. Back in the day mega man was pretty much the icon of capcom. Now a days, not really. So, how does the game hold up today? Let us find out.
The graphics: 8
The graphics are very good for a game of this age. The animations are fluid, and everything is quite detailed. In fact, the reason the the blue bomber is blue, is because the nes and the most shades of blue than any other colour.
The sound: 10
The sound and  music? It is epic. The sounds are good, and used in the right areas. The music, is one of the main things mega man is known for is the music. It is very fitting, and is epic in general. Also, I like that it has victory music when you kill a robot master. It makes me feel like I actually accomplished something.
The addictiveness: 8
The game is very fun, and it is something that I would play again and again. Trying challenges is fun, for example, mega buster only, don't take any damage etc. You can go through most of the stages in any order that you want, which makes it have a bigger replay value.
The story: 8
The story goes like this. Dr Light and Dr Wily went to the same university. At one point, Dr Wily becomes jealous of Dr Light's success, and takes 6 of Dr Light's robot masters. Mega man, having a strong sense of justice, asks Dr Light to be converted into a battle robot. After some adjusting, he becomes the blue bomber we all know and love.
The depth: 7
The game is quite long. You have to go and do the first 6 robot masters, and then go through Wily fortress. All the robot masters have weaknesses, making it easier to destroy them when using the correct weapon. Using the right weapon can be key, and you ca use them for different uses too. For example, you can use the ice beam to freeze your enemies in place, you can use the magnet beam to bypass certain obstacles etc.
The difficulty: 7
The other main thing that mega man is known for, is for its difficulty. The game is very hard. You have to have observation and you have to have patience. The enemies can do a lot of damage, and can be very difficult to dodge. The platforming, for the most part, isn't that hard, though it has its moments of hard platforming. Also, with mega man's main weapon, it only goes right in front of you, making it hard to hurt certain enemies that are above or below you.
Overall: 8.6
This is a game that I would recommend to a friend, and play it over and over again, doing different challenges each time. The Graphics are good for the nes, the sound and music are just simply amazing, it is very addictive, the story is wonderfully thought out, it is quite a big games, and it is very difficult. It is an amazing game, and I think that you should play it. that is why I rate it an 8.6.

Mega Man (NES) Review   yaoyao9
Well well well. We have since moved on to one of my classical favorites: Mega Man. Although I wouldn't have discovered the franchise until the seventh installment, I decided to play backwards back then, from seven back to one. The journey was quite a difficult one, moving backwards from the advanced seven all the way back to one. So, let's see how my impression of Mega Man (NES) is!
Graphics: The graphics of Mega Man really focus down on the Blue Bomber himself, instead of everything around him. The creator, Keiji Inafune, directly stated that in order to create a more detailed sprite, they chose the color with the most variation in the Famicom color pallet, and "blue" happened to be it, so Mr. Jump-n-Shoot here has got to be pretty detailed, more than the likes of say Mario in the original "Super Mario Brothers". That however, was only the character; the rest of the game does not check out here. The backgrounds are drab, falling into the classic "Metroid" style of using completely solid colored backgrounds and the guilt of copy-and-pasting area designs to artificially increase playtime. The boss chambers also suffer from this. Guts Man and Cut Man both have the exact same room to fight in (minus the changed patterns, the structures are identical)! This makes the game quite a bore to look at times, since an average player would most likely focus on his surroundings for possible enemies, instead of Rockman himself, thus losing track of the most detailed sprite.
Sound: Ugh, I really wish I could give this a higher score, but I can't. No matter how memorable the music are (I still whistle them to myself at times), the sound design in this game is still pretty awful. All of the music tracks are simply bleeps and bleeps of machinery, and that really decimates the value for me. The songs are catchy, but can get droning at times, especially since you only hear the main Robot Master tracks in their respective stages, which are all short in general (save Elec Man and Ice Man, but I'll get to them later). The Wily Stage 1-2 theme is also pretty nice, but once you get past the first stage, the second stage becomes another droning area again (again, I'll get to it soon), and the final Wily fortress theme, though not as droning as say "Mega Man 2"'s second Wily theme, is also quite droning (I'll get to it later). So, the sound really can't score past a 7 in my book.
Addictiveness: This area for me translates to many levels, including controls, which I will cover in the difficulty section. However, ignoring controls, and provided that I play with the sound off in the aforementioned droning stages, I would gladly replay the game. However, this is when the other aspects kick in to make me hate the overall experience (see difficulty for everything that I said I will cover later).
Story: like many early NES titles, the game has no story... unless you have the Japanese instructional manual. The English version of the booklet is absolutely horrendous in every way imaginable, starting with the nonexistent "Monstopolis" the keep yakking about, and how "the leaders of Monstopolis: Dr. Wily, Dr. Light, Mega Man, Cut Man, Guts Man, Ice Man, Bomb Man, Fire Man, and Elec Man". All gibberish and  old-school mistranslated nonsense. The real story, which is a classical tale nowadays, is still quite shallow, "once upon a time there where two doctors, Light and Wily. Both pioneered in the fields of robotics, but Light always seemed one step ahead of Wily. So, Wily, being jealous of Light's success, hijacked his six Robot Masters to conquer the world. Light's assistant, Rock, who had a strong sense of justice (cheesy quote), volunteered to be transformed into the fighting robot Mega Man to stop Dr. Wily." Very shallow story, but the game really needs no story.
Depth: This carries a bit over to difficulty once again, but I'll just say it ain't that deep. Just jump and shoot anything that moves. Figuring out weakness chains for the Robot Masters isn't a problem: Nintendo Power or Internet.
Difficulty: Ah, here is where I have been waiting to sink my critical fangs into! The difficulty of this game is completely ludicrous, offering little challenge and putting more into luck than any other game I've ever seen! It is one thing for the game to be hard, but this game is arbitrarily hard, offering not a fair challenge of reflexes, but instead praying that enemies don't spawn right on top or next to the ladders! Guts Man, for instance, was boss I struggled with so much, and I am now convinced that my emulator's random number generator is rigged. He keeps jumping towards me and cornering me at the boss gate, relying only on his sheer size and contact damage to take me out, and by this point he is already out of the range of my Hyper Bombs, his only weakness. This is completely ludicrous. Then, there are the matter of those Footholders, the things you step on in Ice Man's stage. They take up and entire third of the stage, and move WITHOUT PATTERNS! They go where they wanna go, which is anywhere but near you, and they shoot as well! The player must land on these little platforms in the middle to wait for other Footholders to come by, which may take up to 30 minutes (how long I've waited for one)! Then, there is the matter of Elec Man, which requires you to move vertically upwards in his stage, which Mega Man's physics where not built for! I have had those propeller droids spawn point blank next to your advancing ladders, and have more than a fair share of being killed by them. Then, it is Elec Man, whose Thunder Beam packs such a punch it is really unfeasible to try and beat him with your normal blaster unless you exploit the programming. Finally, what's with the physics control in this game? Mega Man slides forward quite a bit after landing from a jump, which killed many a unsuspecting gamer. The Blue Bomber either has quite a bit of momentum, or just has ice under his Mega-Feet. Not a fan of this selection, Capcom!
Overall: *Sigh* "Mega Man" is simply a game that I can recommend to everyone. It's sheer difficulty (and unfair difficulty at that!) makes them game unfeasible to play for newer gamers, and even today I struggle at the game. It is quite a sad thing for me to say that this game really was a poorly constructed mess, and although I still like it, I can't say the same for others. If you want a challenge, have a few hours to cash in, have a game genie handy, I'd say try this game. You may see something that I don't.

Mega Man Review   supersayianbroly
Here it is folks Mega Man.
The Blue Bomber in his very first adventure, he has been called many names over the years he is known as Rock, Mega, Mega Man, and of course the most widely spread name he is called The Blue Bomber.
By the cover of this game when it first came out it was widely believed this was going to be a future set space age game. While the game is set in the future it is not a space game, it is set here on earth.
While Mega Man may  it is not look a thing like his counter part on the cover and he does not use a gun per say, it does not hurt the game at all.
If any thing the cover disgraces the game, this game is so much better then what the cover led people to believe.
As you begin the game you are taken to the stage select screen, which to me was a disappointment, usually you get some kind of story background even if you have to wait for a bit for it to show up without pressing anything.
This game does not do this it takes you straight into picking your first stage, the idea of taking the enemy robots powers after defeating them and using them to beat the others was a genius move.
As well as the two hidden power ups that help you along the way, well one is mandatory to beat the game which is why it is right out in the open lol.
The other power up is harder to reach but well worth the effort.
After you beat the enemy robots it is on to the hardest part of the game, making your way through Dr. Wiley's Castle, where you have to fight newer bigger creations of his, as well as the enemy robots again, then on to the confrontation with Wily himself.
The music gets to the point where it is repeative but it gets real  good once you get to Wiley's stages.
Finally at the end credits you get a bit of a story line and get to see a list of the robots created the ones you just beat and get to see their numbers (order of creation), as well as see what their jobs were before they went to Wiley's side in trying to conquer the world.
This game still has a strong following and has spawned into many different games, and even tv shows, who knows maybe even a movie someday.
This series of games will all ways be a fan favorite, and is a must have to any retro gamers collection.
Heck it is a must have to any gamers collection.

The explosive beginnings of this bionic boy.   RedHotToddy
Back when?I was a kid, I wasn't all that into action shooter games, hence other titles like doom and such, which were first person shooters much in the lines of call of duty, The thing is that I was only little, and I didn't have much experience into all this explosive violence and stuff, and I don't why, This all changed until I got my hands on this very video game right here, That is right folks, this game is what made action shooter platformers, and what game is that you ask? Well folks, this game is mega man, This is mega man for the NES. Let's get started shall we folks?
Story-7/10
In a very distant futuristic world lives 2 very humble guys, Dr light and Dr Willy, these guys have created these super powered functional robots to do bidding around the place, These robots include Cutman, fire man, Ice man, guts man, Bomb man, elec man, and last but not least...Mega man. One very day though, Dr wily grows tired of using these guys to do their daily bidding, so he then reprograms the robots to take over the world and cause havoc everywhere! Because of this, it is all up to Mega man to save the day, Mega man is a humble blue robot with many features, so he is the perfect guy to save the world! So anyways, that is the story for the game, now let's get onto the actual game itself!
Gameplay-8/10
For the most part, Mega man is a 2D action shooter game where you take the role of the titular hero mega man, as you jump climb and shoot your way through 6 big giant and vast levels, The first thing I like about this game is that out of all the 6 levels, you can play through them in any order you like! This trend has became very popular throughout, and I can see. So anyway, the controls are pretty simple, You use the D-pad to move, A button is jump, and B button is shoot. In each level you must chase after and destroy a certain robot reprogrammed by Dr wily to destroy the world, The levels consist of two main sections, The first section is the main level itself, and the second section is a tough and challenging fight against the desired robot, now these guys are tough, so be careful! Each level in the game is crazier after the last, as the blue bomber, you will be shooting your way through volcanoes, glaciers, saw blades, and so on! Mega man will be fighting tons of baddies in his quest, including buzzers, flying bombers, and so on. As mega man, you are also and always armed with a powerful hand gun to defeat the bad guys, as you progress through the game, you will find more upgrades to your gun, so keep an eye out for them! Power-ups are also an essential in this adventure, you will be collecting yellow bulbs which will restore your health, pink pellets that drop out of enemies that will give you extra bonus points, and so on! Anyways, That is pretty much it for the gameplay folks!
Graphics-9/10
This game was made way early in the NES' life span, and for what it is worth, It looks quite amazing to be honest! I mean let's be real here, the game has a bunch of colorful and pretty looking yet tough robots, so of course there is alot of color to everything! But anyways, each level you will be exploring is vast, big, and bursting with color and atmosphere! As I have addressed already, each level is crazier then the last, you will be exploring saw mills, volcanoes, glaciers, and so on! Now for the actual character sprites, they look pretty good as well! Mega man looks good, the robots you will be fighting are Ok, and so on. I mean the game came early in the life span of the NES, so cut it tons of slack guys! Of course it is not going to look as prettier brighter and just overall better then the sequels, Yeah, I am going to be saying that on all first installments of certain video games (I:E Ratchet and clank 1) But anyways, that is pretty much it for the graphics!
Sound-8/10
Capcom is no stranger when it comes to fun and catchy soundtracks in their video games, and this is really no exception! Each level in the game is filled with fun catchy and overall pleasant music that fits every each of the levels! But anyways, now as for the sound effects, they are pretty plain and Ok to say the least, this game does involve lots of shooting blasting and exploding, so be ready to here alot of "Pew pew pew" "Boom" and "Kabam!" in your quest to say the least! Mega man games are always and I say ALWAYS have awesome music, and this is the first game in the series, so no duh!
Addictiveness-8/10
I will admit, shooter action games have actually really grown on me since I first played this adventure, and that goes for the same when It comes to all the other mega man installments and sequels. I mean, some fun factor in this game is replaying all the levels for extra goodies like extra lives, higher scores, and so on. Don't all you guys here on vizzed board think mega man is such a fun addicting series because of all those reasons? I think so! I hope they make newer games though, haven't seen the little guy in a long time I tell you, ever since the fall of DMC earlier this year, capcom has left him alone for a while. Let's bring him back! Who is with me!?!?
Depth-7/10
This explosive action packed adventure is pretty long and offers quite alot to do, Well to start off, the main adventure itself is over 6 levels long, so get ready for an hour of action packed explosive shooting goodness! Oh yeah, the game also uses a scoring system, each time you kill guys or collect stuff, your score increase, I still play the game to break my current or old high scores, and tha is a definite plus if you ask me!
Difficulty-8/10
When I say the word capcom, I think of hard, fun, and really challenging games, and This is really no exception! The game can give you quite alot of trouble and here are a couple of reasons why, Most of those pesky levels (Ice man dang you!) Have really tight jumps and puzzles that can cause you to fall and fail a couple or more times if you are not good enough, and those bosses in the game have some pretty darn powerful attacks! So be careful, but if you are a real true expert gamer, then the game shouldn't give you enough trouble if you ask me.
Overall-8.6/10
This very game right here is what started it all for the cute comical and charm action packed explosive series, and this is one of the perfect games for me to review! Especially since I am really running out of games on the board to review, but anyways, I gave this game an 8.6 because it is fun, challenging, cute, comical, and well, Yeah! That is why I rated this game as it is! So anyways, just buy this game or play it if you haven't already, It is worth all of your time, so anyways, this has been RedHotToddy's 111th review, and I am off! Oh yeah, I have a confession to make, When I get to 130 reviews, I might go on for a long hiatus, but I will try my best to keep these awesome and long reviews coming! But anyways, see you guys in my 112th review!

Mega Man (NES) Review   totaldramaman2
Mega Man. A very influential game series that has been around for 25 years. In honor of the 25th anniversary of Mega Man, I'm going to somehow figure out how I used to write reviews like I did back in May 2012 and review Mega Man 1-10, the Game Boy games, and the Game Gear game. And maybe the X games. Anyways, like every game series, there was a beginning, a start to the series that would set the path for all the potential sequels. However, these games usually lack the features and enhanced changes that sequels make, and this is especially true in Mega Man 1.
Graphics - 8
The graphics are excellent for 1987, but I felt like some if the textures were a little... random. Take the blocks that you can pick up with Gutsman's ability. That texture looks as if they just put a bunch of strange shapes and such all about in the space that the box takes. Speaking of Robot Masters, their graphics are fantastic. 8-bit games are always much better when they are colorful. That's why I like the Game Boy Color so much, colors and pixels are a match made in Heaven. Everything is very colorful and detailed. The reason it is only an 8 is because, well, Mega Man 2 has better graphics.
Sound - 9
The music in this game is fantastic. The Mega Man series (excluding 8) is known for having a great soundtrack, and this is no exception. My favorite is Elecman, not because it's the same song as Journey's Faithfully, but because this song truly pushes the NES's sound to the limits. That's what Mega Man 1-7 did, push the system to its limits. And yes, I did say 7, that game is better than everyone says. Capcom did a fantastic job composing the music.
Story - 7
The story isn't exactly cliche, but it is kind of an every-day story, for NES at least. Dr. Wily built 6 Robot Masters to destroy the world. Dr. Light, his nice counterpart, built his second robot, Mega Man, to destroy them all and defeat Dr. Wily.
Depth - 7
Compared to the other 9 games, this game is short because it only has 6 Robot Masters. Even the first Game Boy one had 8! Sure, they are sequels and I shouldn't be comparing a game that came out two years later than the one I am reviewing, but really. I think that there could have been two more Robot Masters.
Difficulty - 8
The game is actually quite easy for Mega Man standards. It only took me about 2 hours and 30 minutes to beat this game, usually it takes me three hours and that's partially because there's no especially challenging stage. The bosses are out of control though. They just throw every attack they have at you at once and BAM! you're dead. That's why the Robot Masters have weaknesses, and they really help.
Overall - 8.5
Although certainly not the best main series Mega Man game, Mega Man 1 still is a very enjoyable game. Sadly, it has been extremely overshadowed by Mega Man 2. Even though MM2 is better, this game will always be enjoyable to me, and hopefully it is to you also.

Mega Man:The Original   Mega Boy
OVERVIEW: Mega Man is a very amazing game and has much to offer if you play! This is just a timeless tale of 2 scientists working together. One becomes evil and makes six robots evil! Rock becomes Mega Man and saves the world from many robots! A classic tale that will never get old (and come true!) to people young and old!
GRAPHICS: Usually, graphics on the NES were terrible! That was up until the rise of the Mega Man series! It has many colors(defying the rules of the NES Sprite System, or NSS) but some not-so-amazing animations, like the Bomb Man stand->throw animation! Nevertheless, the Mega Man graphics were as good as NES graphics can get!
SOUND: Well, the sounds are good here and there, and if you don't like SFX, some Mega Man music is good to! Some games in the Mega Man series have WONDERFUL tunes and amazing SFX, but if you don't like constant constant explosions, turn your volume on your PC to ZERO at Bomb Man's stage!
ADDICTIVENESS: At first, playing the game isn't addicting until you lose! As soon as I lost the game, I kept practicing and practicing until I had it JUST right! Then, the game became alot more fun and addicting! So just play and play!
STORY: As stated in the overview, Light and Wily build robots! Wily goes KOO-KOO and evil and stuff and makes most of them evil! Rock & Roll refuse(hehe, Rock 'n Roll) to be reprogrammed and Rock becomes properly armed for a battle! Or should I say tons of ACTION!
DEPTH: If 9-12 levels aren't enough foryou(it is for me) then you suck! This game has secrets to obtain like the Yasaichi and the Magnet Beam! So, happy Playing!
DIFFICULTY: At first, this seems like an innocent litle baby, but when you get to the Dr.Wily levels, you'll be begging, I MEAN BEGGING for some MERCY! It's like a 5-year old(you) vs world wrestling champ in the ring! No time outs, no brakes between rounds, just fight 'till one is finished!
OVERALL: Overall, this isn't a bad game, and it might have alot to offer to certain people, and if you think you're one of those people, go for it!

Good Times   retro64foru
Ah yes, Mega man, some call him Rock, others Rockman, more call him the blue bomber, well, I call him a savior.
Anyway enough mushy talk, lets get to the game. This game is a rare masterpiece (not made by Rareware, its rare, as in hard to find) but that does not stop it from being an awesome series I have played mega man 1,2 and X1,X2,X3. Anyway, lets get down to graphics, they are exceptional and mega man himself is the most detailed sprite in the whole game. Game play: it is fantastic and has re playability.
This is all for now so see you all soon

Most underrated in the series.   gokugoku500
This is usually the most underrated of all games. Like Mega Man 8 and 6, i thought they were great. Six actually became my all time favorite. But i don't know anyone who says he/she likes them.
But some people love 5 and 7, while i thought they weren't that good, but we aren't talking about those games right now.
Graphics: This was kinda hard to rate. It had the weakest graphics in the whole series, but still very impressive for NES. So i decided to rate this 7.
Sound: Ah, i love this soundtrack! Especially both boss themes and Dr. Wily stage themes! They felt like you were actually approaching Wily's castle, and not many NES games could do that. Mega Man 2 Wily's castle theme is overrated.
Addictiveness: Mega Man game i play the most has got to be Mega man 6, but even still, this has some very interesting differences to the other Mega Man games that make it so enjoyable to play.
Story: What?! A story in a NES game that WASNT cliché?!
Depth: Alright, alright, this game isn't very long and it doesn't have many secrets either aside from the magnet beam. At least they fixed that in Powered Up!
Difficulty: Now this is what you call hard. This was the second hardest in the whole series, and we all know why,
That Yellow annoying blob monster.

Overall: This is a underrated masterpiece in the Mega man history. Everyone should try it out and see what i mean.

Its a bird! Its a plane! its.... MEGAMAN!?   bluecat2012
WOWZA IS THIS A GREAT GAME! I love mega man games. I love their irritating game-play its so much fun as you die and you just wanna try again to beat it! Well i gotta start the review now so sit tight. First the graphics. how are the graphics? Well Their OK but their not the most amazing thing since pac-man bit their good. I give them an 8. There are a few things that REALLY bug me about the graphics and there are even a few funny things. For a very good example Gutsman (one of the DEADLY robot masters created by doctor Wily) is used for some of the blocks in later stages. You have probably heard of the joke how DR Wily LOVES Gutsman. Any hoo tha'ts why the graphics get an 8. Good job capcom!
Now your probably wondering at this point (and i probably should of talked about this first) about the story of mega man and what is the plot of this amazing (and difficult) adventure as you take out DR Wily. The story is that there are 2 doctors. DR light (who is the good guy who created mega man.) and DR Wily (the bad guy who created all the robot masters.) They used to be good friends and enjoyed creating robots. but one day Dr Wily though: Being a good guy is boring! And started creating robots that he can use to rule the world. So Dr light Created mega man to put an end to DR Wily's madness. I think the story gets a 7. it isn't the coolest story out there but it isn't bad.
The sound (and the awesome music for the robot masters.) is a whole new story! Its perfect! 10! i'm giving it a wonderful flawless 10! WOW! My first time playing mega man i was stunned on how epic the sound and music was! My favorite sound track is the elec man theme. Its really cool and upbeat. Good job capcom! Guess what you get? A 10!
Now its down to the most important and most recognized thing about this game and the entire collection. THE DIFFICULTY. Now mega man games are very recognized for the difficulty. I give it a 10. There are annoying jumps annoying enemy placement annoying bosses. BUT this does not make the game not fun! its the difficulty that makes you wanna keep playing so you can beat it!  Capcom made it like this so people would keep trying to play it.
So to end this review im gonna give the full score! yep! this is my full opinion on what score mega man on the nes gets. it....... gets.......a...9.8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A True NES Classic   Robertoman
Mega man on the NES to me, is a true classic. The story is Dr. Light
created 6 robots to help the world But Dr.Willy got Jealous of Dr. Light
and took all of his robots and programmed them to be evil. But Dr.Willy
forgot one robot and that robot is...Mega Man. Mega Man has been set on a
quest to destroy these robots and stop Dr.Willy from terrorizing the
humans. Well now that you now the story, on to the review.
GRAPHICS- 8/10-  This game has a colorful perspective and had land changes. For the time this was mind blowing!
SOUND-7/10- This game to me had a lot of Great Robot Master Themes. Besides the robot master themes the sound can a bit choppy at times.
ADDICTIVENESS-9/10-  I see to comeback to any Mega Man game once in while trying to beat it and improving my skill also to see how fast I can complete a Robot Master!
DIFFICULTY- 8/10-  This game ain't no walk in the park. Sure some stages are easy like Cut mans stage While others are Painful (That Means You Guts man!) In fact that some Robot Masters can kill you in 3 hits is unbelievable!
OVERALL- 8.4/10- This game is just a NES classic. I recommend you put this game on to your "To Play List"!

Mega Man review!   G@mehe@d
Mega Man was released for the NES ( Nintendo entertainment system) in 1988 and in Japan he was known as "Rock Man".
The story starts out where Dr Light and his assistant Dr Willy. Create 6 robots, cut-man, elec-man, fire-man, ice-man, bomb-man, and rock-man. Each robot were supposed to do industrial jobs like working in freezing cold or super hot temperatures, cutting down trees quickly, demolishing things, lifting heavy loads, and fixing electrical circuits. Then Dr. Willy betrays Dr. Light, and programs the 6 robots to obey him so he can take over the world. Dr. Light sends Mega Man to destroy Dr. Willy and his robots.
The graphics are good but can be better. The animations are okay, and the colors are vibrant but the backgrounds lack detail. The most impressive graphics on an NES Mega Man game would be on Mega Man 6 which was released in 1993.
The games sound, is nothing to get exited about. Like the graphics, the sound get better and better as you go through Mega Man 1-6.
In my opinion, this is one the most addicting Mega Man games on the NES. I've played this game over and over again, at least 7 times!
For an NES game, this game has a lot to offer. 6 robots to fight and each have their own level, and 4 Dr. Willy stages which also have their own boss stage. Each level is very detailed in design and the levels aren't similar.
When you first play this game it is hard, but after a few tries it will be easy. The toughest part of the game is not the Dr. Willy levels, its the ice-man level. So try to do that first to get it out of the way.
OVERALL RATING 8.5.

Mega Man Review: Extreme Blue Platforming   Marlonv1
Growing up, I never had an NES or an SNES. I was an N64 and PS1 Guy. So I never had the chance to experience Mega Man in its purest form. As soon as I found this site. Mega Man 1 was the first game on my mind to play to begin playing NES Games and Catch up to all the games I never got to play.
I am happy to say that it was worth the wait because the Mega Man Series for the NES is Great. Although its first game was rough, it was the beginning of something Amazing.
Platforming at its finest, tight controls and pixel by pixel movements. The exactness of this game for its time is really something I did not expect.
The graphics of the game are ok for their time it is NES after all and its the first game as well so it gets a pass.
The sound, oh the sound. The Mega Man soundtracks can be used to study music composition because of the way they are made they are so good.
The story is not important here but it grows overtime so that's another pass.
When you start playing the game, it is very difficult at first if you have not played NES Platformers, but as soon as you get the movement and the control you are hooked until the end.
I am happy to say that Mega Man 1 for NES is a keeper for all time.

the start of a great series   lukexander33
Mega man is a series where you play as a robot who shoots energy and even takes other bosses powers which leads to other bosses weaknesses and leads to the end. This game offers 6 unique bosses that are very hard to beat. I have played the mega man series and I am a giant fan but this game is one of my least favorite because you don't get to power up shots or slide. There is only 6 bosses and adds a useless point system but other than that I think this game is really fun and I play it all the time. I hope you all play this game and enjoy it

Love this game   Alordo
The one and only game I ever got for making honor roll in high school.  I had a deal with my parents that every time I got on the honor roll; I could get a new game.  Made it one time.  And I picked Mega Man over all the other games at the time because I had no idea what it was about.  And I played through it until I got to the Wily stages.  Now, the instruction manuals at the time were not really forthcoming with information.  I had beaten every mini boss with my mega buster ONLY.  You couldn't even charge it in this one.  It took me a long time, but I had done it.  I never realized you could switch up the weapons in the sub menu.  I got so frustrated playing the first boss of Wily that I gave up and traded it to a friend for Zelda.  They then told me about switching weapons.  And how they beat the game.  Now, back then I also kept track of what games I beat on Nintendo.  And I had beaten Zelda on both worlds already, so I begged them to trade back with me.  And once I realized I could switch weapons, I dominated Wily and his crew.  Why?  Because I had gotten extremely good with my jumping and the such due to only using the mega buster all those times to defeat bosses.  I love this game more than I should.  It frustrates me to no end, but I never give up and just keep on keeping on.  My favorite game series after Final Fantasy.

Mega Man Box Description

It's MEGA MAN versus the powerful leaders and fighting forces of Monsteropolis - that strange multi-layered land of robot-like humanoids created by the wrongly-performed experiments with human beings by Dr. Wily. Mega Man - the chosen defender of the human race. For he dares to single-handedly penetrate Monsteropolis' seven separate societies to stop the rapid expansion of strange misrepresentations of humans. Mega Man's goal is monumental. He must infiltrate seven separate heavily-guarded empires. By himself, he must break down and destroy the following empire leaders: Cutman, Gutsman, Iceman, Bombman, Fireman, Elecman, and Dr. Wily. The action involves Mega Man armed only with laser beam weapons, encountering strangely-configured humanoids. They're atop, in and out of fortified prison-like structures strengthened with thick walls. Hidden amid gun turrets embedded in concrete uprights, even in subterranean passages below icefields. WOW!

Mega Man Cheat Codes

Iceman stage glitch

There is a point in the Iceman stage where you try to get a 1-up but often miss it. When you drop down to the next screen (the one before the Big Eye), use your magnet beam and try to climb your way up and try to hop onto the offscreen platform where the 1-up is supposed to be. The moment you step on it, the screen will glitch and show you falling to the screen below and avoiding the Big Eye in the process.

The Select Trick

When using a weapon that goes through an enemy, press the Select button (this pauses the game with out bringing up the weapon menu) when the weapon is making contact with the enemy. While the game is paused this way the enemy will continue to flash. When the flashing has stopped, press the Select button again to un-pause the game and the weapon will 'hit' the enemy again causing more damage.

You can do this trick repeatidly with many of the bosses making them very easy to beat.
