Kung Fu review for the NES G@mehe@d
This is one of the best beat em up games I ever played. Even though the graphics and sound are not a marvel. The gameplay is great and I always enjoyed playing beat um up games.STORY: The story is pretty simple. An evil man named Mr X, kidnapped Sylva. The hero is Thomas, he travels through 5 floors so he can save his girlfriend Sylva. Each floor is packed with enemies and powerful bosses, but he will stop at nothing to save his girlfriend. GAMEPLAY: The gameplay is top notch. I really enjoyed it because it delivers satisfaction in defeating enemies. The controls are simple and easy to remember. I found other beat um ups difficult because most of the enemies are so strong. This one however, the enemies are really easy to kill.GRAPHICS: The game looks nice, but there's not much to say about the graphics. Nintendo could have added more stuff to the background because it looks kind of plain and there is not much to the levels.SOUND: There are some great sound effects and laughs from the bosses. In fact this has better sound then most NES games especially since it was an early NES title. Even though the laughs sound a little cheesy and a bit creepy, for the time it was impressive.ADDICTIVENESS: No matter how many times I had to start over. I still would not stop playing the game until I beat it. That's how addicting this game is. Although if your not going for a high score contest. You will quit the game the moment you beat it.DEPTH: There is only 5 levels in the game that are short. So if you never died, it would take you about 15 minutes to beat the game. There is 2 difficulty settings like most of the launch titles for the NES.DIFFICULTY: The first 2 levels are pretty easy but when you get to the 3rd level you have to use strategy to defeat the boss. It get harder and harder from there. In general the game is not very difficult.OVERALL RATING 8.5

The Grandfather of Kung fu beat em ups SuperCrash64
Here we have, Kung fu on the Nintendo Entertainment system. A classic and fun game. That I really happened to enjoy playing on vizzed, I've figured I do a review of it, and not to mention.. I haven't done a review in about a week or 2.. :S , so without a further ado please enjoy the review.
Game background & Storyline: Starting out like a lot of home console games, Kung fu on the nes, was based on Kung fu master the arcade game, this game was one of the first, if not the very first, Beat em up game. The storyline takes place here. one day a Kung fu master by the name of Thomas, had a girlfriend named Silvia, They were enjoying their time Together, Until they both got attacked/assaulted by a group of unknown warriors, Thomas tried to hold them off and keep Silvia, but he failed and Silvia got kidnapped. One day Thomas, had Received a Letter from the name of Mr X, Saying how and if you want to rescue you're girl friend, so Now you have to defeat all enemies, and bosses and rescue Silvia. The only thing about the storyline that confused me, was the ending, Now I cannot reveal the storyline ending, due to spoilers, but if you see/read the last bit of the storyline, You should understand why It confused me for a bit, until I realized this game was a never ending cycle, either that or the developers could have been planning a Sequel to this game, anyways storyline rating six out of ten.
Graphics: These Visuals seem to fit better then there arcade counterparts.
Now in general, looking at the nes and the arcade versions, they look a lot different from one another, but at the end of the day, I will prefer the nes style of the graphics for Kung fu, and the reason for that is, because, the characters don't have much of a 80's style look as the characters did in the arcade version, and In general the characters are less blurry, and more neater looking in my opinion, The characters like Thomas does have a different kung fu suit, were this time he has a White suit with a black belt, In the arcade version he had a blue clothing and a red belt. Each of the characters really look much more crispy styled in this game, Even the dragons, the butchers, they all look so much better then they did in the arcade version. Stages: The stages are pretty basic looking if I say so myself, but I really like the arranged version of the floor and background coloring, they look much more modern and crisp, for this type of game, than they did on the arcade original version, the stages just look a bit plan, to me, because of just a blue sky in the background, a basic looking temple and other stuff etc. The animation: The animation Didn't look too bad for this title, as it looked pretty smooth and flowed along with the characters nicely, The only thing about the animation in the game that annoyed me, was Thomas going up the stairs animation, that animation sequence really annoyed the heck out of me, It just looked so boring and plan to watch, and it wastes some seconds of my time. Graphics rating seven out of ten.
Sound: Nothing much to describe about the sound quality here(so excuse me if this section is short) Anyways, The sound effects sound much better, on the nes version, because they sound a bit more clear, and more epic, than the tiny squeaky sounds like the arcade version had, You have all you're basic sounds, Like hooyah, and other sound effects, when you punch, kick, and knock out a boss, and he goes like oof. That sound effect always made me had a good time, especially after getting my butt handed to me, a lot of times during game play. (Soundtrack: There's only like two theme's, that play during the entire game. The first theme only happens when you receive the letter during the arcade version, and the start of level one on the nes version, the main theme happens during each of the levels, and it sounds pretty basic, to me, Just basically because of the tune's composition it's self, Is pretty repeative, and it doesn't sound all that memorable, in comparison, The nes version of the arcade theme's sound almost the same, the nes port does sound like it has a bit more of a lower tune to me , but other then that, it sounds the same to me. Sound rating five out of ten.
Addictiveness depth & difficulty: I always found kung fu master to be addicting for the main challenge that it brings, I mean the enemies and everything is so hard to face, I would have to constantly keep on playing this game, just to try to get good at it, and the main reason for this, is because the Cpu"aka" the enemies are so freaking cheap and hard to deal with, the butchers are really annoying with them always trying to back up and throw knifes at You, the enemies who hit you with their fist, I had struggle with them, because whenever I got hit by one of them, I could never escape or break free from their attack for some reason. the bosses are pretty annoying as well, one they are strong and cheap, two It makes me button mash and sometimes constantly jump kick just to defeat them. Depth: For the depth part of the section, There's really not much to say, I hate to be a party pooper, but the developers of the game, spoiled how many levels their is in the game, you'll see that in the intro screen, like the intro/cut scene said, there is only five levels in the game, but on the bright side, each of them take quite a bit to finish, due to the addictiveness and difficulty mentioned at the top. addictiveness rating nine out of ten, Depth and difficulty rating eight out of ten.
Overall kung fu master on the nes, is a great port of the original arcade classic, overall total rating 8.0

the beginning of beat-em ups endings
Kung Fu. A classic game. This was early days, so you as Thomas the kung-fu master are pretty limited in what you can actually do. He can crouch, stand and jump - in each of these three positions, he can punch or kick. Its not a big deal, but it is pretty fun. The kick has the reach but gives you less points.
Story: 4
A Mr. X has kidnapped Sylvia, Thomas Girlfriend. Oh no! We don't know why, but it must be martial art related, as Thomas has to go through an entire pagoda of baddies, up five floors, even!
The real story I want to know is what's with the grabbing guys in the purple. I mean, these guys just hug you. And apparently it hurts alot! Grabbers need love too, but this is a strange attack.
Graphics:8
For the NES, the characters were big and bold and animate well- theres no lag in when you push the buttons rapidly. You have Thomas, the grabby guys, a knife thrower in a bright white outfit, and several other enemies. When you defeat any of your colorful enemies, they fall through the floor, and presumably off the pagoda. It seemed strange at first, but I imagined a giant pile of bodies as Thomas climbed up, and then I started thinking you know - if he can punch you so hard you fall through the floor - maybe he is the Kung Fu Master!
However, all floors look the same. One might have small holes in the wall, but there is very little variation. What you do see of the pagoda looks good, however.
Sound: 7
The steady beat of the game is not varied, and goes for all 5 levels. We will hear Thomas' kung fu yells, and his pained sigh when he is defeated. You also hear Mr. X's strange laugh, and some odd inanimate-animate enemies make their own small sound effects. The smoke sound effect gets used a couple times, but it honestly felt appropriate. Its pretty good overall for sound, but a variation in stage tracks would have been nice.
Addictiveness: 7
I played this game alot. I can still play this game, it gives a simple arcade feel. You just want to beat something up, and its very fast and gratifying. The game can be played through quickly, as the moves are limited. I wished more expected of me, for instance, a absolute must to use the jump kick, but for the most part, you are free to attack how you wish.
Depth: 5
Each floor contains many enemies, which will keep coming until you advance to the boss for that floor. Each boss relies on a physical or missile attack to stop you. The poor lonely grabber men make up the bulk of your foes, but later add some knife throwers and small guys to their ranks. There are other enemies, but they are restricted to the floor they are on, and are not seen on all the floors. I was expecting the top floor, fifth, to throw the kitchen sink at me, but no, its the same threats I met on level three.
I had hoped for some kind of bonus stage, instead you get the repeated visual of Thomas' girlfriend being held against her will, which you will see twice in the game. Its kind of strange to repeat the exact same little story sequence, as the game is not that long.
Difficulty: 5
Your limited moveset requires you to learn how best to deal with threats. Floor 2 and 4 are the clever ones, not using human opponents very much. Its probably best to keep moving forward at all times if you can help it. I found the last boss quite a pushover, and wished a better fight. The regular enemies are repeated very often, and offer little challenge after awhile.
Overall: 7.5
Kung Fu gets the speed right, as Thomas does have rapid fire attacks. Its a simple arcade concept that is still fun, as long as you don't mind its kind of white belt basic.
