Galaga (NES) Review   Eddy88
Alien Invasion!
In the past, Video games didn't need of long and complex stories or controls, they even didn't need of amazing graphics to amaze and entertain people... Only one or two screens, and a progressive Difficulty is all what it was need, To mention some examples: Pac Man, Donkey Kong and Space Invaders. That was enough to make a boy sit down in the front of a screen for hours and hours, playing and trying to get a good score. This formula was repeated by years... After the big success of "Galaxian", Namco decided to make his successor. That successor was named "Galaga". And it was released in 1981 for the Arcades. As his older brother, Galaga was a real success. It was ported to multiple systems... between those: the NES... Yes, that is, today I'm going to review Galaga, for the NES. So, if you're interested, take a seat and keep reading.
Story: Here's another typical thing of the old Arcade games: No Story... However, since it involves Aliens and a Space ship that must repel them, I would say that is all about defending the Galaxy from those Invaders. Nothing new about that. But, as said, no story. So, it's just me thinking on that. (N/A)
Graphics: For the time, the graphics were really amazing... Well, In my opinion, these are still amazing. If we compare the NES' port graphics to the original Arcade, we'll see that both are really similar! About the Sprites: Sprites are really good, these are colorful and with some good details on them... About the background: Ummm... Well, there's not much to say about it, it's only the black and cold space filled with many stars. Well, at least we can say that they had the correct vision of it. (8/10)
Sound: This game counts with a few songs... Which are good, of course, these are adapted from the original songs of the Arcade, and they sound very good (Specially the Results screen and start songs) SFX is pretty simple. It can be quite annoying if you're playing the game for the 1st. Time (mainly because these sound all the time, because the stages doesn't have music) ... But, once you've played it enough, you will enjoy it. (7/10)
Addictiveness: As the most part of the old games, this one can hook you up for various hours, mainly because of it's good details, ease, and the competition factor... Because playing until beating your best score is something you don't get bored so fast. (8/10)
Depth: The game is easy to play and understand: You control the white ship at the bottom of the screen, you only can move to the left or to the right. At every stage, the Aliens will come from the top of the screen, before taking position, these will make some loops around, trying to confuse you. Your only weapon here, are the bullets, which you can use by pressing both A or B. After a while, the Aliens will try to crash your ship or to shoot at it while descending, some can even capture your ship, forcing you to use your next life (if you have another, of course) if you manage to clean the stage, you'll go to the next one... After 3 stages, there will be a Bonus Stage. (Challenging Stage) in where you must shoot at all the Aliens you can... If beat them all, you'll get a bonus of 10000 points (if not, you'll get 100 points for every alien destroyed). That's all what this game is about... simple, right? (6/10)
Difficulty: As excepted, the difficulty is high... As long you progress, the game becomes difficult. The Aliens start moving and shooting faster, making almost impossible to clean the screen. (8/10)
Final Rating: 8
Even though if this game doesn't have a lot of things to do, this simple formula makes of the game a really decent and addictive product... If you have the chance, play this game... It's worth it.

Galaga Review!   Seishiro Leonha..
Galaga Review written by Seshiro Leonhart himself!
Ooo, I remember this game, I used to play this game A LOT with my brother too when I had my NES emulator CD, this were one of our favorite games, we used to play this a lot of times, the gold ol' times, our childhood... Great ol' times, too bad time passes very quickly, but I was happy that I could have a brother to play with when young, now it's time to move forward.
Anyway, this game tells the history of a ship going into space to destroy aliens in it's path, there is not really a story for this game, but this is what this game is about.
I believe I should start reviewing this now.
Graphics: 8
I have to admit that this have good graphics for it's time, it have a nice design that kind of calls me to play when I look into it, but the look of it is very simple overall, but for calling my attention because of graphics increases this section of the review and the Addictiveness points, This deserves an 8 for good graphics despite being simple, but calls the attention of the player (at least mine).
Sound: 8
Another thing I like from this game, the sound of firing and killing aliens can be a bit annoying for people not used to this game, but I could hear the sound just fine, maybe if the sound were more repetitive and faster maybe the firing / killing sound could be a bit annoying, but increased points for having great soundtrack, I love the game introduction song, the song of when you get a perfect on the bonus stage, and the ending song (the game over song), I could hear those songs for quite a while before I get tired of them sadly there is no song during gameplay, another 8 should fit this part of the review just fine.
Addictiveness: 8
Like I said before, the graphics of this game calls my attention when I look at it, it makes me want to play it, and when I play it, I want to play it again and again, despite the game being simple, this game can be very addicting, it makes you want to play it for hours, or until you have to leave to do something important, I highly recommend you to try this game out.
Story: Blank Rating.
Like I said before, this game have no history, you are just a pilot controlling a spaceship around the space while destroying aliens that come into your path before they destroy you, if I were to give the spaceship a name I would name it X-222, but no history for this game if you are looking for a story.
Depth: 8
As far as I have played, this game takes a long time to reach the last level which is really hard to do (bonus points for Difficulty), and as you progress through the levels the aliens come with different tricks to try to attack your space ship, for example, when they are gathering at the center, you are firing calmly at the aliens spinning a bit above your spaceship X-222 (Name I gave to this ship if you have been reading this review), when all of a sudden... THE ALIEN LEAVE THE SPINNING MOVING TOWARD YOUR SHIP WHILE MOVING DOWN TO LEAVE THE OTHER ALIENS, A KAMIKAZE ALIEN! Yes this happens, on later levels while you are firing at the aliens some of the aliens can all of a sudden move down, disappearing on the bottom of the screen, if the player don't pay attention the player may be hit by the alien and lose a life, and sometimes an alien may flash and transform into a similar look or turn green and create 3 copies of itself while moving down trying to hit the player, or firing toward the player while moving down, or avoiding being caught and captured by the armored alien, and etc. Kind of a lot of different things to be seen on this game, I forgot to mention one thing, if you are caught by the armored alien the X-222 will stay above the Armored Alien, and when it moves out of the spot it stands, the player can fire at the Armored alien and save the spaceship, making the spaceship saved move at the side of your ship, increasing your firing precision and firepower, but nothing will happen if you fire at the Armored Alien if you kill it when it is at it's spot, the only choice left to do if you do this it to destroy the capture X-222 to gain a little more points, because that ship will not be returning if it goes to the bottom of the screen.
I guess with such a huge explanation you got the idea of the much about this game right? For that Depth deserves an 8 as a rating.
Difficulty: 5
If you read the Depth, you will see that many different things may happen on the game, making things harder and harder, the aliens transforming and triplicating itself, the all of a sudden down moving aliens, avoiding having your ship captured, being careful to hit the armored alien when it is moving down, but things being easier if you manage to save your spaceship X-222, you get the idea, difficulty for this deserves a 5.
Combining everything: 7.4 Overall.
You have to try out this game, this game will consume some of your boredom time, this game is very fun and you will want to play it again and again for a while, and the challenge of the game is good for those who are looking for a little challenge, and enjoy a small soundtrack when starting, game overing, or making perfect score on bonus stages.
I guess this ends the review for the Tour de Vizzed and a S P (don't worry about this) lifter, if you liked, you can reply to this thread saying your opinion about this review, it may be intentional, but I did it as best as I could.

Galaga review   SacredShadow
Overall: Overall this game is a classic and it is very fun to play and it doesn't require a long drawn out complex plot to be a good game either because in these arcade games there is only one objective and that is to win and set a high score! I rated the game overall a 9.4 because it is a fun classic game that everyone can enjoy for its simplicity
Graphics: For its time period the graphics were amazing and they are still really good, all of the sprites of the enemy ships look great and very colorful and very unique. I like the graphics for these arcade games because of how classic an simple they need to be to make the game fun but still make the game look good and appealing to play, I scored the game an 8 for the graphics which is really good for a classic arcade game, well done Galaga.
Sound: The sound of the game is pretty decent, it does offer a playing environment instead of a soundless one, the game's music sound is really simple and it does enhance the game play and makes it more fun to play as well. Some may find it irritating, but I think it makes for the perfect arcade experience, I rated them a 7 out of 10 because on how it makes the game more fun to play instead of a soundless game background.
Addictiveness: The game itself and all of these classic arcade games are meant to be addicting and make you want to waste several dollars worth of quarters playing and trying to beat your high score and make it to first place on the high score page. I played it a lot to try and get a high score and I managed to get 40,000 or so as my high which is a little low for me considering since I have the actual game for Nintendo and my high score is around 67,000 and the experience varies for computer to controller to joystick in the arcade days. For addictiveness I gave it a 7 because it was very addicting and it will get you hooked for several hours of fun if you like playing classic arcade games it is meant to be addictive and guarantee lots of fun, it is just like pac man always trying to get better!
Story: Like I said before most of these classic arcade games are good without a long story that drags out forever, that is what made them awesome and fun to play, because of their simplicity that makes them fun to play. I really like that about these games is how they can be fun without having to be long and complicated, these games have one purpose and it is to make you addicted and want to play it more, and I think that is easier to do with a more simple game like these classic arcade ones, so I gave the story a 4 because the objective is really simple and I think it doesn't need a detailed complicated story to be a great game.
Depth: The game offers a fun to play environment and it is easy to pick up on an play, you move the white ship at the bottom while firing to destroy all of the enemy aliens at the top as they come up to fire at you, easy as that all you have to do is do that and keep it up through the levels and keep clearing them. I just destroy most of them as they come around in their loops, then there are very few still left. The  alien ships attempt to either capture, run into or shoot at your ship to make you explode, sometimes it can be hard to avoid getting a lot when a lot of them come at you all at once, but for the most part it is pretty easy to avoid capture and destroy all of them. You can also get a big bonus when you make it to the challenging stages when they fly across the screen in loop, a perfect 40 gets you a big bonus and that is what I usually get. The game is easy to learn and play but it is still fun and challenging and that is what makes it fun and addicting to play. I scored them a 5 on the depth because it does have many levels and becomes increasingly challenging and fun
Difficulty: The difficulty  is not that hard like I said before the controls are simple, all you have to do is move across the bottom of the screen and shoot with 1 button, it is very easy to play. But as for game difficulty it does get harder to clear all of the alien ships and they move a lot faster as well, but still nevertheless all arcade games get more difficult as you get higher in the levels, and this game is no exception. I scored the difficulty a 7 out of 10 because it may start out as easy but then it becomes harder to dodge their shots and avoid getting hit, but that is what keeps it exciting and fun to play because it would be no fun to keep playing a game where all of the levels are exactly the same and it always stays easy and never changes, that is no fun, you always want a challenge!

space shooter, Galaga   pi0x
Overall:
Galaga is a really awesome game, it's one of the original space shooting games, it offers much fun, and it will give you a fair challenge.
This game is honestly my second favorite space shooter out there, I've had lots of fun playing it, although I have ragequit the game several times due to being at a high level several times and lost due to losing my nerve when getting to the high levels and I would die. :P
The game has great game play, which makes it addicting, and even though you may die, you just want to pick up the controller again and keep playing because you think that you can beat your high score this time.
Graphics:
Galaga for the NES has pretty much the same quality of graphics as all the other quality games on the NES at that time. The only problem is that I didn't really see much of a difference in the levels, or the enemies.
Sound:
The sound in Galaga is of course 8-bit, so it's not all that great sounding to your ears, but the sound effects are pretty good for a NES game, the crashes sound like crashes, the shooting sounds like shooting, and the theme is pretty catchy! :)
Addictiveness:
This game is really fun to play, and for me a game that is fun to play is addicting. Arcade games were meant to be addicting, and this game was originally an actual arcade game.
I could play this game for quite a few hours before I get really bored.
Story:
Sadly there isn't any kind of story to this game, you're just fighting aliens in space in you little space ship, more than likely trying to save Earth from an invasion.
Depth:
Although all the levels looks identical, you can pretty much play this game forever until you lose all of your lives. Some people have gotten extremely high score, which they must have been at least past state 50 to get. I'm this game has quite a bit of depth to it.
Difficulty:
As I said before, I'm not the best at this game... so I think it's fairly hard, although it's not the absolute hardest game out there, the game certainly gets a lot harder once you start climbing up the levels, and sometimes(at least to me) it will put you on the edge and get kind of nerve wrecking.
Nevertheless, Galaga will give you a challenge, especially once you start climbing levels.

It may be old, but its still great!   Phoenix2312
Oh My God!!! I did not even know this old arcade classic had been released for NES until I found it on Vizzed...
I know that the admins prefer reviews to be broken down into sections... But there is not really any point for this one... Still, Lets try and just go for it...
Graphics - Perfect! More or less the very same as the arcade - Yes they are basic but they did not need to be fancy back in the 1970's, the game just had to have that "One more play" factor. Its a fancy Space Invaders! So don't expect anything special...
Sound - Once again, It's a more or less perfect adaption of the Arcade - That may not sound like much, but given some of the poor sound on games that had a far higher budget, getting a near perfect adaption of Arcade Sound for the NES was amazing for its time!
Story - What Story? Its Advanced Space Invaders... You do not need a story!
Addictiveness - Most notably a "One More Game" factor, Anyone who played this in the arcades will remember how it stole all our pocket money... That same aspect has transferred well to the NES Port, though I have to be honest - I have not played long enough to know if there are continues (A lack of them could be a real pain in the butt!)
Depth - No Depth! There are some nice bonus rounds to break up the monotony, but this game is just a very basic formula.
Difficulty - While not the most difficult game in the world, it can have its moments. On occasion, your ship can get captured costing you a life, but if you manage to shoot the alien that captured your ship, then you can get increased firepower...
Sounds easy? Nope! Actually planning for this is near impossible - And most of the time it will happen more by luck than judgement.
As a near perfect arcade conversion, there is little more to say other than if you are a proper old school retro gamer (Like me! The kind who remember having to actually go out and see sunlight to play a Video Game... Either that or play PONG) then you are going to be in HEAVEN!

Galaga Review   Marcmoney
Overall - 7
Galaga is a good game to play.  I am not that good at shooting-type games.
Graphics - 8
The graphics are okay.  It is basically the same thing in ever level, but the enemies get harder. :P
Sound - 7
The sound is actually the same in every level.  It is mostly quiet, but it still is a good game to play if you like shooting-type games.
Addictiveness - 6
I would probably not play this game many times.  It will be fun for you if you love to try to beat your own high score. :P
Story - N/A
There is no story for this game.  It would be cool to have a story. :)
Depth - 8
I think that it is a long game just like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, etc.
Difficulty - 7
Like I said, it is hard for me, but if you are good at shooting-type games, I guarantee that you will do good.
Wrap Things Up...
Galaga is once again a good shooting-type game to play.  I am more into strategic games like Fire Emblem, but it sure is fun to mix a little.  I recommend trying this game out, it is not a bad game to play. :)

Galaga   ArcadeNerd
Graphics: 10
It's a normal NES game, you shouldn't have to expect anymore than that, nor any less.
Sound: 7
Like I said about the graphics, it's for the NES, but sometimes the sounds do get a little choppy, and irritating.
Addictiveness: 5
The sounds and controls make it hard to make this game for the NES addictive, but I can't really complain since this game did come out in the '80s
Story: N/A
There is no story, just like Most other Namco game, they don't provide a story, the game is to let you have fun.
Depth: 10
The game is really nice, if you really get into it, learn the patterns, and get through the game, you'll have yourself a keeper, every time you beat the game (if there is an ending), you can try and beat the high score you get by doing better.
Difficulty: 10
The game is nice, but the controls are hard to use, it's like the player's ship sometimes has a mind of its own and doesn't want to shoot or move, the difficulty increases in the game which is really nice, and I think it should stay

Galaga is a great game for its time. The graphics for this game on the nes is great for its time. The sound in the game is good theirs no music but the sound of the game like the shooting of the aliens are good. The game is really addictive u cant stop playing it because u want to beat your high score. There is no story behind it but of course there wasn't much games back then that had a story it was all about beating your high score. The depth is good the game pretty much says it all u shoot aliens. The diffuctly gets harder as u move up levels. But all in all its a great game to play.

This game will take forever to beat, since it only goes up to stage 255. After stage 255 it says stage 0. Then in a few seconds, BAM! the game crashed. You have to reset it and start all over again, like Deja Vu.

Enemies spawn in fairly predictable patterns. I use reference points like the bottom of the emulator's window (reset, pause, and close buttons).

I felt the same way sloanstar1000 until recently. I really had to think about a few things to get better. I avoid doubling my power up with a captured fighter because I can never keep it going for even a single round. That's just wasting lives.

 Hi

Adblocker detected!

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
