I wish i could go back in time to prevent this game from being made.   RedHotToddy
Again, If you were bran in the 80's, then you have probably seen the hit movie Back to the future, The story of a young hipster named Marty mcfly who travels in time and must get back to his current town, It sounds like the perfect?movie to be made into a Nintendo game right? Well you are going to see that for yourself, This is back to the future for the NES.
Story-5/10
The story is pretty much the same as the movie It is based on, A you teenager named Marty mcfly is sent back in time?to the year 1955, He then meets a bunch of other people on his visit, Such as Doc brown, his parents, and his wife Jennifer. It is now up to you and I say YOU, t help Marty mcfly get back home.
Gameplay-4/10
In this game, you control Marty mcfly, as you adventure through more then 9 big levels getting from point A to Point B, Now the first thing you will notice, This game is not a platformer! Instead, it is an overhead view game where you control Marty as he runs automatically through the level collecting clocks and avoiding a bunch of weird obstacles, such as girls with hula hoops, Guys with windows,? bees, etc. Where did they come up with this stuff? Oh yeah, the game is made by LJN, a game?company known for making a horde of Terrible games for the NES, and they make toys and action figures as well. But anyways, there are 3 worlds in the game, and there are about 4 levels each, once you finish the 4th level, you will be treated into a bonus game where you do weird stuff like stand in front of a counter and throw these white things at dudes, or catch notes with a guitar, It's downright weird. Did LJN even watch the movie before making this game? Of course not. They just want to make a quick buck of off of Michael J Fox's "Beep"!
Graphics-4/10
Really? This is what you call back to the future? Well for starters the running stages all look and feel the same except the colors keep changing, and as for the characters sprites, oh god are they awful, Everything looks like a freaking pixel thingamajig Especially look at Marty! In this game he looks like he is wearing blue baggy jeans and some sort of blackish shirt, He didn't wear any of that in the movie! The HUD is pretty self explanatory, It shows you how much points you have racked up, and some other weird stuff that I could honestly not care jack about.
Sound-1/10
I am being honest when I say this, the only song you are going to be hearing in this whole game is one never ending song that doesn't sound like anything you would hear in the movie! It just keeps looping like "Dun dun dun dun da da da da dun da da" And It just goes on and on and on As for the sound effects, they are hardly noticeable, but they are there, You get little beeps, boops, slams, and a bunch of other crud. And that freaking song is all you are going to hear for the entire game, from the start, to the very end, It is irritating to say the least.
Addictiveness-2/10
Is this a game I am going to play again? Please gods no, It is not, I have only played this game 9 times and It has already be the bane of my childhood! Curse you LJN! Can't you make a good game on the NES for just once in your life? You guys are absolutely destroying the NES library here with terrible games that are not worth any of our time at all!
Depth-1/10
No no no no, and NO! There is absolutely no reason to ever come back to this game after you finish It! You beat it once, you just put it away forever, and ever and ever. The game is pretty short as well, There are only 3 levels, so you can beat it in about 1 hour or so. Well It is LJN, so what to expect?
Difficulty-9/10
This is one of the second hardest games I have ever played on the NES, It is right up there with ghosts and goblins! This game is so hard that only a true video game expert can get through It all in one piece! Trust me, I have only beat this game 2 times in my whole life, And on a real console!
Overall-2.9/10
You guys already know, Do not buy this game! It is the biggest waste of money ever! I remember paying full price for this thing And I already feel ripped off, You guys should know why I gave this game a 2.9 out of 10! Because It is a game that is so bad It does not belong in the NES library, It deserves to be burned! This has been Red here, And I am signing off!

Back To The Future Review   Marcmoney
Overall - 6
Back To The Future was a very popular movie and probably still is.  I am guessing that on how famous this movie was, they had to make a game of it, on the NES.  You would think that this game would have good scenes in it and be very popular, well your wrong, it is nothing near the movie except for a few of them.
Graphics - 8
The graphics are okay, at least.  What I don't get is that one of the enemies that are in this game.  There is two guys holding up some kind of painting or something, how the heck would you know, it doesn't even show the image they are holding.  It is just messed up and if you go through them, you die and then the image shows.  This was the only issue there was for the graphics.
Sound - 2
The sound makes you want to shoot yourself.  The game plays the same song and repeats it every single time.  It is very annoying and I just wanted to mute it because it was so annoying.  In the building levels, they don't play the song (thank God).  Even the main menu is the same song as the game song.  Don't you just want to destroy this annoying sound cause I sure do.
Addictiveness - 5
I probably wouldn't play it as much because first of all the sound is freaking annoying and second of all, the first building part is very hard to play.  You have to throw hamburgers or something at the people coming your way and you have to hit them in the face, no where else and their head is small.  Good luck with that level.  Another thing, if you die on that level, you demote a level and have to play that same level to get to the building area.  Big rip off.
Story - N/A
There is no story in this game, I waited for an opening in the game, but nothing, just the most annoying sound you have ever heard in your life.  The movie however is very good, I'd rather watch the movie than play this game.
Depth - 6
The game does not give a lot of features.  You are basically the kid and you run in the street trying to put up clocks and avoid people and anything that will get in your way.  How stupid is that?  Who goes around the street and picks up clocks?  They did not think this through.
Difficulty - 8
The game is hard.  What I hated the most was the first building level.  There is one glitch in the game that just annoys you if you don't go around it.  On the third street level (I think), there is a bench in the middle of the level and if you try to jump it, you won't make it.  The enemies in this game are completely idiotic.  There are hula hoop girls, a person that tries to chase you, two people holding a painting and moving around, and the worst part of it, the flies.  Who falls on the ground over a fly?  It is just messed up.
Wrap Things Up...
Back To The Future on the NES was a mistake.  They should have not made it so horribly bad.  I would recommend this, but do this one thing.  Turn the sound off, I guarantee that you will be annoyed by it.  Also, check out the movie of this if you have never seen it before.  It is not a bad movie at all. :)

Back to the Future... How can it be bad?   aquabludolphin18
Back to the Future= awesome movie. (at least that's what everyone says because I didn't watch the movie)
Since it was such a success, people made video games. How could it go wrong? Well, if you know who made it you can understand because it's the worst video game company ever.

Graphics- 2
For an NES game, the graphics are pretty bad because they are really plain and simple.
The developers failed to realize the NES's full graphical capability.
The objects and backgrounds are plain and need detail. You probably could have done the same graphics on an Atari 2600.
Sound- 1 (0.1 if possible)
The sound effects are simple. It's OK if the sound effects are simple but, the thing that made me rate this so low was the music.
The music just keeps on looping and looping throughout almost the ENTIRE game. At first, you don't mind.
But, then it starts to get annoying and on your nerves, then, it's stuck in your head and then, you go completely nuts.
It wouldn't bother you so much if it was enjoyable, but the music is definitely NOT.
Even worse, it's not the Back to the Future theme!
It's not like developers making games for the NES couldn't compose an 8-bit remix of it, Duck Tales sounded awesome, Metal Gear was great, so why did LJN have to make this bugging theme:
*Ahem,*
Dun dun dun dun dun dun dunn dun dun dun
Dun dun dun dun dun duunnn
It already sounds horrible!
Addictiveness- 1 AGAIN. Not Surprised.
It is too obvious to say if you already tried the game.
It's not addicting at ALL
"Why?" you ask?
It's not fun. All you do is collect clocks and-
Collect clocks? I will mention that in depth
Anyway, so, you collect clocks while dodging WAY too many obstacles. That's all. It doesn't sound like much fun, does it?
Story- Cannot Answer
I didn't watch the movie so, I'm sorry, but I can't fill this part in.
It must have been a good one.
Depth- 2
There's really not much that the game offers. All you do is collect clocks, which has nothing to do with the movie.
You also have to dodge many obstacles. If you want to know how hard it really is, then check Difficulty.
Once you clear a certain number of stages that only change color to make it look like they are different stages, you get to play a different stage and take a break from the boring street-running stages.
I've only made it up until Lou's Cafe, then, I keep on losing. I'm sorry, but I cannot finish the game. It's too hard.
Difficulty- 8
The difficulty of this game is outrageous!
You have to be a very hardcore gamer to beat the game without cheating.
As for casual gamers like me, you don't stand a chance!
Marty won't stop walking, there's too many obstacles coming at you at the same time. I will list them here:
-Bees
-Garbage Cans
-Bullies
-Hula-Hoop Girls
-Potholes
-Coffee Cup Shaped Thingies
-Benches
-Two men with a big invisible piece of glass
Can you imagine all of that at the same time?
If you're a casual gamer with no experience to hardcore games, then I suggest that you build up some skill if you're going to beat this game.
Getting different controllers won't help you at all, either.
No matter what you use to play, you are guaranteed to die at least five times.
The keyboard, USB controller, turbo controller, even the NES Advantage won't help you much.
And that concludes everything about this game.

This ain't the best, around! (Back to the Future Review) (NES)   alsonic
Hey, Mcfly! Are you trying to play this game? Don't it's horrible!
Hello people of Vizzed, and that was my horrible Biff Tannen impression. Today I played back to the Future! And it sucked. Alot.
Graphics: 3/10 This game looks horrible, the only thing that looks good is Marty Mcfly's shadow. It closely mimics his movements, and that's mainly the only thing that looked good in this game. I mean, I know it's on the NES, but this is crap.
Story: N/A Okay, there's no story, so I'll make it up.
Marty Mcfly is trapped in 1955! Collect Rolex watches that are stuck at 9:30  and avoid the citizens that apparently turned homicidal to go back to the future! Also, bees hate you too.
Sound: 1/10 This game has one soundtrack and it's short and loops over and over! Yay! (sarcasm)
Addictiveness 1/10 I hate this game. I never want to look at it, touch, or even mention it ever again in my life. It's THAT bad.
Depth: Hm....Depth:
'How big the game is and how much it offers; if it's a game that takes a while to beat or has a lot of to do, rate it high' In that case it's a 10!
No, really, 1/10. This is crud. It's hard, it's bad and it smells like week old bacon left out in the sun for a week. Nothing to do. Just go and beat it. I dare ya.
Difficulty: 9/10 It's really hard. The only thing that's real dangerous is the bees, because apparently, our old friend Marty is allergic to bee stings. And forgot to pack his vaccine. And he lost the DeLorean.
Overall: 1.5/10 This game is awful. The only thing going for this game is the gameplay, and if this game was about collecting watches instead of going back to the future, my final rating for this game is... BURN IT!

Back to the Future Review   Zircron Swift
I was told something about bad games. Something I've tried my best about to avoid and push to the very bottom of my mind. Something that others would scorn and rage at when they hear the name. I was told to never, under any circumstances, play an LJN game. The Rainbow of Doom, I liked to call it. Nothing good could come out of an LJN game, so in general, I try to avoid them. For the most part, I did so. Yet I was tempted, tempted to see if they were that bad. Most would consider it a mistake, but I call it an adventure.
The game starts you off at Hill Vally 1955 with no opening scene or text saying how you got there. But I can safely assume that this is after you (Marty, of course) got hit by that car, as during a level, there are three heads that I think resemble your siblings (What are they, anyway? A sargent, Wednesday from the Addams family and....benjamin franklin?), and they are fading away, so at least we know where we are chronologically. You need to collect clocks to restore your family's faces on the photo (if you can call it that), while dodging the towns population....and bees.
Why do clocks restore the faces? There is also a time limit, making two times to keep track of. Why couldn't the clocks restore the time instead? If all the faces disappear, then you lose a life. If you run out fo time, you lose a life. You can gain a life for every 30,000 points you collect (I'm sure it's that much). Through out the level, there's a chance you can collect a bowling ball, which is kind of like a weapon. I just have two questions? 1, Why bowling balls? And 2, if you are throwing bowling balls at people in the past and injuring them, wouldn't that create some effect in the future? You know, the butterfly effect and all that. WIll bowling exist when Marty gets back? I find the bowling ball very usefull for killing those bees. If your good enough and keep the bowling ball with out dying, then you can use the skateboard.
Ah yes, the skateboard. Makes you faster. To me, the skateboard is like a fariy in Zelda, or the Metal Blades in Mega Man 2, you just got to have it. If you keep a clear mind, the skateboard makes things a little easier, in fact. There are bowling pins in the middle of the street when you have the skateboard, and if you throw a bowling ball at it, it'll score you 500 points. It's a nice little reward for not getting hit by anything. I've clocked several perfect runs of a level and foudn out the fastest possible time to complete a level with the skateboard is 84 Marty-Seconds, and there are 200 in each level. What are Marty Seconds? They are the time united mesured in Back to the Future, as the timer runs a lot faster in the game than in real life. But doesn't the Super Mario Bros. timer also run faster in the game than real life? Then those are Mario-Seconds. Happy? But I digress.
When you get hit by an item, you lose all power ups, and also get penalised a few seconds as you recover. The controls aren't the most fluid I've seen, as the prospect of you continuesly moving forward and then trying to move backwards is quite stiff. Jumping is almost useless, an you'll mostly be moving with the d-pad, but jumping does have its uses in the up most emergencies. The graphics are pretty bright and colourful, although the level design is very repetitive (in fact, it's the same, only recoloured!), and the graphics, although nice at first, is all you get for the walking stages.
The music.....urrgggg. I couldn't get it out of my head, it was a nightmare. The style of the music reminds me of Type-A Tetris music for the NES, but instead of the music suggesting you should play more and more, and your cooperation of wanting to play more, it does the opposite, in a manner of speaking. It annoys you, gets into your head, forcing you to do something you don't want to do, like watching a puppie drown or something crule and sick like that. Most people turn off the game by now. But when I continued to play it, the music got to me, the music changed, it seemed less annoying. Weather the music took control of me or if I simply was imune to the terrible wailing of the music, I do not know. All I did know was this: I liked it. It was strangly catchy, addictive and a little soothing. But this is a LJN game. I must be deluded....
After every four walking levels, you come across what I like to call the "Bonus Different Stage". Everyone of them is different. Weather you are throwing milkshakes at bullies, or collecting notes with your guitar, there's bound to be something for everyone at these stages. At the bully stage, you can press the B button to activate some sort of nuke to kill all the bullies on the screen. After a certain amount of bullies, a wateress walks up and hands you a milkshake, and that works as a sort of nuke for bullies.....don't ask me how. It's pretty challenging at first, but with a little practice, it's no problem. I got to 99 bullies twice (it won't go any higher). It's not that bad, in fact.
The walking stages are pretty addictive, accrually. The controls take time to get used to, but when you do, your practially dancing with the bees. Mastering the skateboard really helps speed through the levels. You can destroy clocks with your bowling ball, but I for some reason find it comical when I do it. The enemies seem to throw this purple ball around, and I don't know what it is. If it touches, you, it counts as a penalty. I think I'll call it a Paradox Ball. These are really annoying at times, but it adds challenge to enemies that just stand still. The only thing that increases in difficulty is that the enemies move faster. By the last four levels, the bees move really fast, and that's where real skill is needed to dodge those menaces.
Overall, I give this game a 6.3/10        After completing this game to the end, and reciving very little satisfaction for it, I can say only this. I like it. I think it's a pretty fun game. True, the levels are practially copied all the way though, the music sucks and the relation to the movie is pretty low, but I like it. Consider it on of my guilty pleasures.

Back to the Future Box Description

You are Marty McFly, just a typical senior at Hill Valley High. But after getting behind the wheel of a nuclear-powered sports car turned time machine, you find yourself in the year 1955 where you've accidentally tampered with history. Now it must be corrected. You must somehow make sure that teenagers Lorraine Baines and George McFly (the two kids that will eventually grow up to become your parents) fall in love before the photo of your family fades away and you're left with nothing to come home to. It won't be easy. You'll have to protect George from Biff and his gang of bullies while doing your best to keep them from beating you up instead. To complicate things, Lorraine has a crush on you, so you'll have to dodge her advances while trying to figure out a way to get George and her to kiss at the school dance. Time is wasting and even if you manage to put all of the pieces in place, there is still no guarantee that you'll get back. It will all come down to one brief moment in time when the past, present and future all meet.

The cafe and school levels were just as bad as the street levels, but the school dance level was the best of them all. Your future is what you make of it, and I recommend you don't invest any time into it by playing this game.

I beat this game today. I'm glad I didn't play it as a kid, because it would have been a waste of my childhood. I beat the DeLorean stage on the 1st try, surprisingly. The walking street levels were a pain in the butt (no, way more than that).

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
