Walking Dead   zanderlex

First of all, let me be clear, up until about a month ago I have had almost zero contact with anything that had to do with The Walking Dead. I had not watched the show, I have not played the game, I have not even watched game play of the game. I know that the series is very popular but I never got into it for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that I did not really have much access to either the game or the show for a while. The 2nd reason, and probably the most important one is that I did not care for the series at all. I just did not find any interest in it, I thought it would be like any other zombie game and series.

That all changed a couple of months or so ago when I was watching my favorite youtuber. He was doing a Let's Play of 7 Days To Die with a friend and during random sections of game, they would begin talking about The Walking Dead. Then I began to think to myself that if he likes it, then I should too and I decided that I should look into it. However, it was never meant to be. By the next morning, I had forgotten about it and each time he mentions the show and game in a video, the same thing happens. Even after he says all these good things about the series, I could never muster up enough interest in the series to look into it.

Then everything changed again about a month ago when I traded in  my 3DS so I could by Vita games. At the Gamestop, I noticed this game and then I thought back to all the remarks in the YouTube videos. I figures that since I actually remembered, and that I was in a Gamestop, I should do some research. I asked around and the workers told me a bit about the game, the friends that I was with gave me some insight, and I read a couple of reviews on my phone. I figured, what the heck, I might as well buy it and try it out for myself, I would never get to tell whether I like it or not without trying it out. Of all of the games that I had bought on that day, this was the first one that I played so I could get an early reaction to it. I will admit that this was not the best game of the ones that I had bought, but it was still much better than I had thought it would be.

First of all, getting the game and playing it does not tell me much about the series as a whole. Playing it only tells me about what the game part of the series is like. This is because I had been told that the story of the game is not the same as that of the show. So though I like the game, I am still completely oblivious to the show and I still am not "that" interested in the series as a whole.

There were quite a few things that I really enjoyed about the game, the first was the ability to choose all of your actions. Sure, it’s not like the average game where it’s fast paced and you basically go on instinct, but instead it’s a slow game that allows you to make decisions that are based on the users thoughts on how the game will play out. I never played any game that was like this, and I think that it was a great idea on the part of the developers.

GRAPHICS 8/10

First off, for the graphics, they are not as good as any of the other games that I have bought, but they were still better than some of the early Vita games that I have played. They were not really as good the console version but it’s good enough for a handheld game. The graphics are alive and bright, and it is a valuable aspect of the game. My grade for this section is 8 out of 10.

SOUND 8/10

As for sound, there is the music, there is the voice acting, and there is the various noises of zombies, gunshots, and more. As for the music, I don’t really like the soundtrack that much. Of course, there are a few notes of some songs that when you are in a certain scene will make you jump because of the drama, but other than that, I find the music to be quite lame. Then we have the voice acting. The voice acting is great. The main character of the game is voiced by Dave Fennoy who has done the voices of many video game characters and has been a main voice in the Ben 10 series. All of the actors who have lent their voices for the game have done a great job and because of that, the sound of the game is greatly boosted. Then of course, we have the various sounds. There are gunshots, screams, crashes of all sorts, and more. My overall grade for sound is going to be an 8 out of 10.

STORY 10/10

In a game that is as slow passed as this one, a good story is needed to keep the gamers entertained and this game does just that. The game starts off with Lee Everett in the back of a police car that crashes and Everett, after an encounter with the zombies, finds shelter in a house. After that, the story is about nothing but survival and drama. It gets even better because the user has the opportunity to choose what Evereet does and says, so in a way, the story changes because of you. Because of this, this already great story can be different every time that you play the game. A story like this delvers nothing lowered than  a perfect score.

ADDICTIVENESS 10/10

At first, I thought I would be bored, but by the time that the scene in the police car was over, I was 100 percent thrilled about what was going on. I did not take a single step, I did not fire a weapon, or do anything really, but what was being said in the car and the ability to change what is said on Everett’s part is what sparked my curiosity of the game, and after that scene, I would go 3 to 4 hours at a time without quitting the game. If you want to see what other choices might have resulted in, then you might want to try parts of the game over again, but because of the slow pace, it is not really the kind of game where you would play the whole thing over again. However, just one playthrough was enough for me and I felt that it could not get any better, so because of this, the addictiveness aspect gets another perfect score.

DEPTH 8/10

To be honest, there is not really any depth. Sure, you can choose what you say and do, but you are confined in a way. Some of the locations are very small and don’t allow you to do anything other than what the main task is. In my opinion, the only depth related apect of the game is the length. I found the game to be really long, it had 5 long episodes as well as a bonus episode, so I was fine with that. For a grade, I give it an 8 out of 10.

DIFFICULTY 5

As for difficulty, I am going to give it an even 5 because there are some easy aspects while there are also some tough ones. Most of the game is laid out for you and all you really have to do is choose wisely and make sure that you press the buttons fast enough. That is all there is to the game.

OVERALL 8.2

Overall, this game was not as good as the others that I had bought on that day, but it was still a ton of fun and it was much better than I had thought it would be. I would recommend this game to people who are fans of the show, but if you are the kind of person who like me, do not really care at all, then I suggest that you do some research because in the end, the game might not be the kind that you would be interested in. My overall grade for this game is going to be 8.2. It was a well thought out game that has a ton of good qualities.
