Superhot Box Description

SUPERHOT is the first person shooter where time moves only when you move. No regenerating health bars. No conveniently placed ammo drops. It's just you, outnumbered and outgunned, grabbing the weapons of fallen enemies to shoot, slice, and maneuver through a hurricane of slow-motion bullets.

Superhot... cup of tea. SUPERHOT REVIEW

Hello, there.

So, I recently I was watching some totalbiscuit and stumbled upon a video he made about a game called Superhot. It looked really interesting so I got it

It’s an indy game developed and published by the superhot team.

It was released in February of this year to overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Gameplay: 10/10

Now I think I just have to start this review off talking about the gameplay because it is the most interesting thing about this game.

You see, this is an FPS game where time only moves when you move. Sounds crazy, and well it is.

But the amount of strategy this mechanic adds is awesome. Sometimes when there are a lot of enemies with guns around you just stand still to look around and see what you have to do.

But the gameplay is way more complex than just that.

You can pick up pretty much every object, glasses, balls, etc. and throw them on your enemies, they will drop their weapon and you’ll pick it up. But these objects can be broken if your enemies shoot it.

Also, one hit death, might sound awful since you’re really outnumbered, but it just makes it so much more fun. If this game had a health bar it would be a lot less fun.

Overall the gameplay is just perfect and I can’t think of a problem.

Graphics: 9/10

Now, this game’s art style is really polarizing, you either love it or hate it.

Now obviously since I gave the graphics a 9 I love it.

This game has a very simplistic art style, you’re a very simple completely black figure, and all the enemies are red. Most of the rest is completely white.

But this game’s graphics fit the game really, really well.

The game’s menu looks like an old computer interface which is really neat.

Now if you’ve never played the game, the graphics might look unimpressive, but it really fits the game well, the game itself is very mysterious, and if the graphics would be flashy, and spectacular, that wouldn’t fit at all.

There are some nice graphical effects in this game as well, such as your enemies shattering like glass.

Overall I think the graphics are polarizing for a reason, this is an art style that is definitely odd, and doesn’t appeal to everyone.

Depth: 8/10

Definitely a good amount of things to do in this game, but there are some  secret game modes that I don’t want to spoil, so I won’t get in to very much detail about that.

The main campaign is pretty long, not incredibly long though, if it was, it would get a little bit old.

I admire the campaign for being really smart. Sometimes you’re put in a small area with a bunch of enemies while you don’t have any weapons, and they all team up on you,  the way to beat that part can take a bit of thinking, and that thinking was fun.

Overall there are some fun secret modes to play, that offer quite a bit, and the campaign is just long enough, although some might want the campaign to be a little bit longer, I personally don’t.

Sound: 8/10

Well, I have to start off with saying; there is barely any sound and no music.

So why is the score so high then? Well, you are probably noticing a pattern here but: It fits perfectly.

There are the sounds of enemies shattering like glass, and whenever you complete a stage you hear the words ‘’Super.. Hot’’

It gives the game a very good mood and a very unique atmosphere,

But because there is barely sound I can’t talk about it very much.

Difficulty: 8/10

Now I am not going to lie, this is a difficult game, but its forgiving at the same time. I never found myself angry or frustrated while playing the game, but it was really challenging at the same time, which is impressive.

The difficulty escalates very well, and it never felt like it randomly got ridiculously difficult.

Now, this is a very strategic game, it’s as much a first person shooter as it is a puzzle game.

If you try to run around the stage you’ll die and you won’t get anywhere. You have to take it slow and think about your next move.

To sum it up, it is very difficult but never frustrating.

Story: 7/10

Story is not the main focus of the game, but the story does play a role, and is actually not bad at all.

I will not spoil the story because it is pretty interesting but to give you an idea:

You log in to a chat called guruchat and you meet some guy that tells you about a file, a file that enables you to hack in to some server and play the game, ‘’Superhot’’

Ends up the people at the server are mad at you for hacking in to it, and start sending you messages.

Like I said it is interesting, but it’s not incredible or anything.

Addictiveness: 10/10

I decided to make addictiveness the last category (apart from the overall) because all of the previous categories have led up to this one.

The gameplay, the difficulty, the interesting story, and so much more are what make this game incredibly addictive.

Not only that, some other things I didn’t mention were the controls, they are spot-on, as precise as possible*

Overall this is just an addicting game, as addicting as a game can get in my opinion.

*There will be an XBOX ONE version, which could cause problems with the controls.

OVERALL: 9.4/10

This is one of the best First person shooters I have ever played. Very few problems make this game an amazing experience.

The graphics are subtle but great, the difficulty is perfect, the gameplay is brilliant, It is just a fantastic game.

It is one of those games that I absolutely adore and I definitely recommend it, although, sadly it does have a pretty hefty price tag which is a turn-off for a lot of people, but still like I said this is a great game.

That has been my review, I don’t have anything witty to put here.
