Mario Kart 8!   Uzar
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!…AND METAL PEOPLE, FUNGI, AND REPTILES OF ALL AGES!…AND WALUIGI! START YOUR ENGINES! Mario Kart 8 is a game now!
Now then, this newest installment in the Mario Kart series does something no other Mario Kart has done before. It comes back to the gimmicks of the last Mario Kart, (customizable vehicles, gliders that serve no real purpose, coins, and underwater driving) ) and expands on it. With more parts, and the ability to drive up walls and upside down in zero gravity. While cool, it’s not anything I haven’t seen before *cough cough F-Zero's did zero-gravity first *Cough Cough.
Outside of the zero gravity thing, that’s pretty neat. But, the game does have its flaws. And now we’ll delve a bit into this fun, and sometimes difficult game.
Graphics: 10/10
This game looks great! It’s a weird mix of realistic, and cartoony. But it’s fantastic all the same. There are also little things that I appreciated, when you go into a drift, you leave skid marks on the road. After a lap or two it starts looking like a real racetrack. Also, in the sand you leave tracks behind your kart when driving. And when you drive in the dirt, your tires get dirt on them. It just makes the game seem a bit better when it pays attention to small things like that.
All in all, it’s a glorious HD Mario Kart with very nice attention to detail. One more thing, the characters actually turn their heads to see their items hit other racers. Which can lead to some hilarious replay moments. (Death stare Luigi anyone?)
Sound: 8/10
There is a lot of great music in the game. The best are probably the remixes of older courses, used in the Retro Cups. You might not be able to remember most of the newer courses' songs until a long time of playing.
But the problem I have is, you can hardly hear at all in multiplayer! While you hold down the gas button (AKA 99% of the race) your kart’s engine roars. And that’s fine, most of the other games did this too. But in 3-4 person multiplayer it’s so loud you can’t always hear the music! >.< Most of my time with the game I spent in multiplayer, so I needed to mention that slight oversight by making the engines loud. Also, every character has their own horn, that’s just a small, but nice thing they threw in.
Addictiveness: 9/10
What can I say, it’s Mario Kart! Of course it’s addicting! The fact you can play it on just the gamepad makes it even more addicting! The only problem is, once you stop playing, you kind of forget about how much fun it is, and then when you pick it up again, you won’t be able to stop. It’s a vicious cycle.
Story: ?
There’s no story really. How about this: Once upon a time, the Mushroom Kingdom was inexplicably paved over. And also, because of too many Olympic crossovers with Sanic Sonic, the Mushroom Kingdom has grown shuttle loops and twisty terrain as well. With a need to go fast, Mario and friends jump into their future cars and race for 1st place!
Depth: 5/10
Well, there isn’t too much depth to this game. Every 100 or so coins you get, you earn a new Kart piece (Although this changes to 500 once you get to the thousands). And with every Grand Prix you win, you get a new character. There is a lot of parts however. Mario Kart isn’t exactly a deep game. It has the most content of any past Mario Kart game, but it cost almost all major challenges to do so.
Difficulty: 7/10
Mario Kart is an experience that can’t be very well expressed with words. You can be invincible for most of a race, or Grand Prix, and in an instant, all is lost. It all comes down to a odd mix of actual skill, and chance. You’re at the mercy of the game, and the game has none! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Although they added a surefire way to destroy the dreaded blue shell, they also upgraded the Blooper, so now the ink actually does block your view of the race.
Another thing I’d like to shed light on is, the game kinda forces you to collect coins, so your kart can improve on it’s speed and acceleration. But when you get hit with an item or fall off the track, you loose three. And you will start falling behind…A lot. And then it’s near impossible to climb back up to 1st place. So, you’re in for a nice challenge.
Some computer players are actually programmed to be especially hard on you during grand prix’s. Even more than it was in 7. First of all, computer players save their mushrooms to use on shortcuts, and pushing you around. Although its not really shown, there is also something called the rival system. So if you were playing as Bowser, Mario and Luigi would go out of their way to hit you with shells, banana peels, and be general jerks to you. But you get to taste the thrill of competition! Learn what a miraculous comeback is! And MAKE WALUIGI NUMBER ONE! WAA! …Or the bitter sting that is 2nd place.
Some pros and cons not covered.
Pro: It’s a great game to play with friends
Con: Honestly, who wanted to play as the Koopalings/Koopa Kids anyway? (Plus I miss King Boo and Dry Bones. I wanted some HD spookyness too.)
Pro: The customization options make each race feel like a new experience.
Con: The zero gravity mechanic is really overused. And you can’t really tell you’re on walls or upside down. All Zero Gravity does, while being cooler than the Sonic Riders gimmick of the same name (Sick burns) it just turns your wheels sideways and gives them a cool Tron Lines sort of effect. And when you bump into people, both of you speed up. But honestly they could have kept the racetracks normal, or at least tilted the camera view sideways when you’re on walls. Probably not turning the view upside down when you are though, because that would become too confusing too fast.
*Drifts across the Finish Line* Victory! Well, there you have it. That’s all for this thrill ride of a review. I hope you enjoyed it, I sure did. ^_^ Mario Kart 8 is an amazing game. It has some high points, and low points. But you'll have fun no matter what!

Mario Kart 8 Review   tgags123
My brother got this game as soon as it came out. I do not own this game myself, but I have played my brother's copy a lot. I was not exactly impressed, I will tell you why in this review.
Gameplay:
Mario Kart 8 is pretty fun to play, but not as fun as some of the other Mario Kart games. Other Mario Kart games give you the option of Manual or Automatic turning. In Mario Kart 8, it is only Manual. Mario Kart 8 introduced the ability to go upside down, but they did not do a good job with it. You can't even tell if you are upside down or not, and it is completely overused. They even added it into the retro courses, which was a major "turn off" for me. And when I say "turn off", I mean it actually caused me to turn off the system is disgust. Other than those major issues, the gameplay is pretty good. Steering is good and smooth, the items in the game are pretty cool (they added a cool 8 item), and everything is pretty well done.
Graphics:
The graphics in this game are nice, but nothing special. They are very similar to the graphics in Mario Kart Wii. They look nice and are well done. But all graphics are good nowadays, so they do not really stand out.
Sound:
I can say the same thing about the sound that I said about the gameplay. It is well done, but not special. The sound effects are nice. They are realistic, but cartoony at the same time. I love the comments that the different characters make. Overall, the sound is pretty good and deserves a good rating.
Addictiveness:
This game did not really hook me at all. It is fun to play, but there are much more addicting games out there. There is not a lot of depth in the game (I will get to that later), so it starts to get boring after a while. I often consider addictiveness a combination of how fun it is and how much there is to do. There is not that much to do, and it is somewhat fun, so that means it is only a little addictive. I think you will be hooked on this game at first, but you will eventually get bored of it.
Story:
You race. That is the story. Like many sports games, there is no story in Mario Kart 8.
Depth:
There is really not that much to do in this game. One of the main challenges in Mario Kart games is trying to unlock all of the characters, but that is not a challenge in Mario Kart 8. All of the characters can be unlocked just by beating all of the Grand Prixs. You don't need to do anything special, so it gives the game a lot less depth. As always there are 8 Grand Prixs, 32 total courses to race on, and 3 battle games. There is really not a lot of depth in this game.
Difficulty:
Like most Mario Kart games, Mario Kart 8 is easy. It is easy to beat the computer players. All you have to do is not fall of the edge and you are pretty much set. You don't even have to be that good at the game to win. The only difficult course is Rainbow Road of course. Everyone's nightmare. Rainbow Road is not any easier in this game than it is in any of the other Mario Kart games. And to make it even worse, they threw in another Rainbow Road from an old game as well. So there are 2 Rainbow Roads. Yay. So if you are looking for a challenge, choose Rainbow Road. If you aren't, choose any course BUT Rainbow Road.
Mario Kart 8 was a very disappointing game for me. I was expecting it to be really, really, really good, but it was only decent. It is still fun to play, but unlocking all of the characters, my favorite part, is too easy and boring. I do not recommend buying this game. At least not yet. It is not worth $60. Wait for the price to drop a bit and then grab it.
And that is my review of Mario Kart 8! I know it was a little shorter than most of my reviews, but I wanted to try to cut out any of the unnecessary "fat" and make it more to-the-point. Let me know what you think!

Mario Kart in HD   evilcon09
hi everyone and welcome to my review of Mario kart 8 on the Nintendo wii u.
this the 1st time the game has an anti gravity system found on certain courses since not all courses have it well for some courses in both the new courses and retro tracks don't have it while it can be a underwater or alt routes. for the courses in the game uses the anti gravity it can be used as alt route to avoid much of the environments trying to hinder you or the other racers. the game has online modes where can create your very tournaments or par take in others and brag about on the miiverse. also including the replay system where you can upload it to YouTube the only bad thing i can say is you cant upload the full race to YouTube.
the game introduces new items like the crazy 8 mixes of all kinds of power ups from bomb to red shells. Mega horn the most useful power up gets rid of the pesky blue shell even if your in the lead and its after you though it technically possible to evade the blue shell.
personally what i hate about Mario kart 8 is AI rubber banding at its evilest core even on 100cc trust me the AI wants to make you wished your where playing Sega and Sonic all stars racing. the other greatest downer is the battle mode instead of an arena you duke it on a race course. total downer. as i said about the replay system too cant upload it the entire race to YouTube. hopefully these issues can be fixed within updates or dlc give or take
what i liked about Mario kart is how awesome it looks and the colorful courses on which are fun and easy to master them. the online modes tests your skills to the limits with players from all over the planet with some rank higher than you and still have the chance to defeat them. rarely have issues with online. and unlockables from cars to bikes and new characters to vary up what suites to your likening
in closing this is amazing racer despite the flaws is overall a fun game to play with buddy's and family hope you enjoy this review please follow me on the miiverse i am known as Evilcon14

Racing upside down with the wheels emitting a magnetic field for the kart to float was used in Crash Nitro Kart more than 10 years ago... Applause Nintendo for innovation.
