Captain Bucky O' Hare, NES Game review osazemccurley
Yo guys, Its osazemccurley back after a few weeks with a brand new, actually slightly professional review! I hope you guys enjoy and by all means, PLAY THE GAME!!! ITS AMAZING!Captain Bucky O’Hare was a saturday morning cartoon character from the 90s that I watched a few times online, mainly low resolution VHS rips from slightly shady websites (I'm so smart!). He's a really weird looking green rabbit with monster sideburns. Him and his team (M
ade up of a a strange, extra armedduck, Blinky, a robot, some animal women, and a boy from earth wearing a... gorilla costume... Damn, I wish I were a kid in the 90s!) battling the evil toads. Thats is about as much as I watched, Thats just mainly the surface of it I think.
Enter this gem of a video game I played and finsihed just a few hours ago. Its a 2D platform game from Konami (
Most games were sidescroller on the NES, as we all know. Just 1.44MHz of sheer POWER!!!). You play as Captain Bucky O’Hare and are tasked with rescuing your friends from the evil toads because I guess they didn't have weapons at the time for SOME reason so they got kidnapped (
Jeez its just an ongoing cliche from NES games isn't it?).
Similar to Mega Man (
And VERY simalar to Mega Man), you can
select which stage to go to, but
UNLIKE Mega Man, you actually have to
beat some of the levels to gain access to new ones. (
For the most part, You always have at least a few options) because you need the abilities from your friends
(Who you rescue after each stage btw) to move through each level.
After you beat a level, your able to
switch to the other team members instantly to take advantage of their abilities. Blinky and shoot things that destroy ice and hover, animal girl can shoot lasers from her head, I can't remember what gorilla guy does, and Bucky can jump extremely high (
I'd hope a rabbit could do that).
Each stage is broken up into
different sections and OH MAN its
hard! You do have a pretty big life bar
BUT THERE ARE SO MANY INSTANT DEATH TRAPS ITS ALMOST COMPLETELY USELESS, ITS LIKE A SLAP TO THE FACE MOST OF THE TIME. However, even though the game is
hard, you
start back at the start of each section of the level each time you die (
Even after a game over, Which pretty much makes extra lives pointless) which makes it extremely fair. I really never got frustrated with the game because each time I died it
felt like it was my fault and I got to try again right away without being sent back t0o the start of the level (
Unlike a few other noteworthy NES games).
Gameplay is
tight and
feels REALLY good. Level design is
excellent, each stretch of a level always has a theme which gives the game some well appreciated
variety. (
For example, in one level you need to ride a mine cart through a star base, while other ones have you moving through ice worlds) Graphically this
game looks AMAZING with awesome animations, textures, details, and more. And don't even get me STARTED on the sound! It
ranks up right against Mega man, upbeat and catchy, it just makes you want to keep playing and it keeps you going!
Overall this game is
awesome with
fantastic graphics and
AMAZING sound. It’s pretty hard but with an
abundance of respawn areas in stages, it makes you
feel REALLY good when you actually make it through a difficulty spot. Its a DEFINITE must play for fans of Mega Man and platform games.
And now, what you've probably scrolled down to see, THE GRADES
