Bases Loaded Box Description

Pitch, hit and run like the pros! Here's voice, action and graphics so real, you'll believe you're in the lineup. The characters look like real baseball players, not cartoons. The action moves at the same pace as a real game. Sounds real, too! The crack of the bat, the calls of the ump, the roar of the crowd when you score. Play against the computer or a friend. Pick your team from 12 different lineups. It's tough. Each team has 30 players - 12 pitchers and 18 fielders. Each ballplayer has his own style. The trick: learn all 360 players! Control and play any position. Whether pitching or at bat, control every aspect of the game. Throw a fastball, high outside or a slider. Swing for the fences. Hit and run, bunt, steal or call for a pinch hitter. Win the Pennant by storing your wins and losses. Sign autographs later.

Bases Loaded Review by: kramer4077 - 8/10

Bases Loaded for NES is a Homerun!
Thanks for reading my review of Bases Loaded for Nintendo!  --kramer4077

Overall:  8/10--This certainly is one of the great classic sports games out there for Nintendo.  I think it was the first sports video game I ever played as a youngster.  The game understandably has it's flaws, which is why I scored it 8/10.  However, there is something so refreshing about just being able to throw a pitch or swing a bat with the "A" button instead of having complicated controls.  I recently tried playing MLB '12 for Xbox 360 and it's a whole different ballgame, literally!  The controls for figuring out what to pitch are so complicated it really takes away from the fun of the game.  That's not the case at all with Bases Loaded.  It's one of the original baseball video games.  The person pitching the ball can hold down the arrow for where they'd like the ball thrown and the batter can swing up high, down low, or right down the middle.  These controls can limit game-play for those of you who may like the ability to pick which pitch you are throwing like the newer baseball games offer.  One issue I have is that my outfielders never seem to be in the right place at the right time and it's difficult to control your outfielders.  On the other hand, the computer opponent's outfielders can catch almost anything I hit at them!  All in all, this is an awesome game that you should try if you haven't played it yet.  Here is the breakdown of categories I've scored:

Graphics:  9/10--Compared to other Nintendo games, this game has a very classy feel to it.  The graphics aren't gimmicky or fake.  The graphics are trying to be as realistic as possible to create the impression that you are actually using real players and watching a game on TV.  The colors are nice and it's easy to tell the white from the gray uniforms.

Sound:  9/10--There are lots of good baseball sounds--baseball hitting a bat, crowd cheering, and the umpire calling balls or strikes.  There are some extra sound effects too.  Again, the sounds are trying to be realistic enough to make you feel that you are taking part in an actual baseball game.

Addictiveness:  8/10--The computer opponent is pretty skilled at the game, so it is very addicting to try and beat that darn computer.  It's also very fun to play against a friend to try and win.

Story:  There is no story in Bases Loaded.  It's a video game where you play a full baseball game against a human or computer opponent.

Depth:  7/10--Bases Loaded offers a traditional game of baseball.  You pick a team, and you get to pitch and hit.  You try to score the most runs and there are 3 strikes, 4 balls, and 3 outs that can be called in each of the 9 innings.  You just get to pick from about 12 teams and then you play a game of baseball.

Difficulty:  8/10--The controls are all very simple, as I previously explained.  The arrows and "A" button pretty much do everything no matter if you are up to bat or in the outfield.  The difficulty comes in controlling the outfielders, having them judge where the ball is going to land, and getting them to the ball in time to catch it.  But hey, if there's one thing we can learn from baseball, it's that practice makes perfect.  So keep on trying and happy gaming!
