A26: Super Ferrari - Review by Dean2k13
Haven't made a review in a while*

Today I am going to be reviewing the game 'Super Ferrari' for the Atari 2600 as I noticed this game has yet to be reviewed on this site, so I decided to review it!

Alright Let's Go!

There's only so much that you can write for an Atari 2500 Game considering they're quite basic games.

Graphics: 6/10

Considering this is an Atari 2600 game, I'm not going to be very harsh and take other consoles into consideration. The graphics in this game are very similar to that of any Atari Game, there are many vibrant colors used to make the game more appealing, however I feel that the creator of this game did not choose the appropriate color schemes for certain elements of the game. There were dark blue roads which reminded me of the ocean, and a land based 'Ferrari' car game should not be making me think that. Taking that out of context, the atmospheric (sky) colors were very effective in that they shown different times of the day - night, midday etc. The sky changes color throughout the game, which is actually pretty advanced for an Atari Game if I do say so myself. I really want to credit the model and shape of the actual F1 Ferrari, although there doesn't appear to be much effort put into it, it's very splendidly built and in a way, resembles an actual Ferrari. I sincerely didn't like the outline of the track, the 'FLICKERING' white lines. These lines flickered frequently, almost 10 times in a second. They made the game obscenely annoying to play. Very poor frame rates. I personally think that the landscape should have been improved on, no one wants to look at red blocks in the background. I would have suggested adding trees or even a stadium full of people cheering etc. This would have made made a huge impact on my perception of the graphics in this game. I would finally like to add, if the racing track (the actual road you accelerate one) had of been a different color than the land surrounding it, it would have made it so much easier to see what you were doing. Overall, the graphics in this game are very primitive, even for an Atari Game. Very basic coloring and use of graphics.

Sound: 5/10

There wasn't much sound in this game, the only sounds I heard was the engine of  the car when I was accelerating. I actually quite like this sound effect though, it makes you feel that you are actually driving this car. What I said there may seem far-fetched but, if you take into context that there is really no other sounds in the game and that you've been playing this game for a while, the sound effect kind of gets stuck in your head and it plays over and over. Therefore, It reminds me of driving a car in real life. I recommend you listen to the sound effect before commenting on it here. You will know what I am talking about.

Addictiveness: 2/10

I can't particularly say this game is addictive, even when I put all graphical errors and sound errors aside. There is no real mean to this game, only that your just racing a car through a long racing track. Personally, I don't find racing a car through a track very, very addictive. So, I'm saying that this is game is not very addictive, but that's just my opinion. If you want, go ahead and try it out and then comment below the game what you think of it. You may like racing games and all that motocross 'mumbo-jumbo', but I just don't have a passion for it.

Story: 2/10

This game is definitely like most Atari Games in that there really is no story to them what so ever. Fair enough there is a plot, you're a racer trying to succeed in a very long and enduring race. I'll give credit for that. However, there's no real 'WOW!' Story to it. I will comment on the 'plot' here then. Of course it's fun trying to succeed and then succeeding, so the creators of this game did make a fun game, I'll give them that. They tried their best to make the game challenging and exciting also. So, the plot is quite fun if I may add.

Depth: 3/10

As I said above, there's no real story to game, and therefore their isn't much depth. I quote from above "Your a racer trying to succeed in a very long and enduring race." That's really it to the game. There's different levels involved in the game and you can try beating your previous high scores, so I guess that adds to depth considering it takes a while to constantly beat your high scores. Overall, there isn't much depth to the game but there is definitely an element of it.

Difficulty: 5/10

The game itself isn't very difficult, beating the computer is always easy in my opinion. But. What put me off was the flickering lines either side of the track that through me off and it made the game very annoying and hence very difficult. There isn't much difficulty to the game but it's definitely challenging to overcome the graphical errors in the game, so I bid you Good Luck! with that.

Overall: 5.5/10

Overall, I feel that the creators did make a 'good' game, it was fun and it was challenging (graphically). There was hardly any sound, but the only sound effect in the game enlightened the whole overall sound presentation, which is extremely hard and is quite effective. I would recommend this game to people to enjoy racing games, and very graphically challenging games!
