Bubble Bobble Review by: ObeseDaemon - 9.5/10

A Timeless Classic
"Welcome to the world of Bubble Bobble! Those funny critters, Bubblen and Bobblen are finally making an appearance in the Sega master system. Play this game and see the wild adventure of Bubblen and Bobblen." - Original back of box description.

Basic Thoughts: 9.5/10
Fun Game. The game at a first glance and coming across it could seem like the childish concept most would never even consider or be interested in, after all you play as what seems to be little blushed up dinosaurs that blow bubbles to get what they want from level to level. So your task in hand is fairly simple, run around blow bubbles and progress on your journey to complete the game, why but of course there are many enemies along your journey that would just love to see you fail and will try there best in order to do so. Basic idea of the game is go through each level overcome the challenges in your way to reach your goal and finish the game.

Graphics: 9/10
Graphics used and designed within this game seem pretty solid with many various colours and patterns, having been exported and ROM'd to many different consoles from it's arcade days the graphics do somewhat vary depending what you get your hands on. On a general basis though you would be surprised at the quality that has been formed when making the bubble bobble variants, all of the shapes patterns and colours seemly solid which makes the game a delight to the eye while playing. Although there's not much to really "design" one could say, someone has done a great job to make the game look how to does for the players to really enjoy their experience and time spent playing the game.

Sound: 9/10
When it comes to sound in a game like bubble bobble, you could say and argue that there really isn't much to it with a few noises here and there just random sounds and snippets pulled from places and pushed together in a jumble? Wrong, if you take your take to listen while playing the game you will hear that there are many tunes within the game as well as all kinds of individual sounds to go with power ups, enemies and many other things within the game. Sounds in bubble bobble give the game quite a uniqueness about it and add depth to the overall game play that is already life draining-ly addictive, when playing through a game one should always pay attention to details to really appreciate the game in which they are playing. I think without most of the sound's that are used within the game it would really make the whole experience quite dull and uninteresting, to the team who helped come up with the sounds and noises in the game I think they have done a great job and people should take time to enjoy some of these within the game as it can be a great aspect within games.

Controls: 3/10
Starting off with the fact that i made this category myself as i feel it's useful to know about about the controls of a game and basics and I rated this on how hard the controls are to grasp from the start, so a 3/10 meaning the controls are not basic but pretty close to with not much to learn on the off go. This means the game is pretty gamer friendly and anyone really should be able to pick it up getting right into it and having a blast, which also leads me onto another point where I would like to say that with these things in mind it would also make bubble bobble a very family and friend's game due to being able to get a grasp of the concept fair quick. With all this in mind though that far from means or makes the game a easy task, playing the game is one thing but to be good and actually get near the end or even complete it will take a lot of skill and patients really testing the limit you can go to as a gamer.

Story: 7/10
The game actually has quite a story to it in comparison to what the game actually is many would just think its pretty random and really not much of a meaning at all, but with a little knowledge or looking around it can soon be found the story and plot within the game which is also quite interesting in its self: Baron Von Blubba has kidnapped the brothers' Bubby and Bobby girlfriends and turned the brothers into Bubble Dragons, Bub and Bob. Bub and Bob have to finish 100 levels in the Cave of Monsters in order to rescue them.?The game, starring the twin Bubble Dragons Bub(Bubblun)(????Baburun?) and Bob(Bobblun)(????Boburun?), is an action-platform game in which players travel through one hundred different stages, blowing and bursting bubbles, dodging enemies and collecting a variety of items. The main goal of the game is to rescue Bub and Bob's girlfriends from the Cave of Monsters. It is an early example of a game with multiple endings, which depend on the player's performance and discovery of secrets.

Depth: 7/10
Where depth is concerned in bubble bobble it is probably debatable depending on who is playing the game and how much they pay attention and like to get into the story of games they play, there is quite a story hidden within the game that one would not usually just know without being told or doing a little research. The game itself has quite a depth to it also with quite a lot to offer on the topic of game play, with many different power ups along the journey you are taking that have a large variety of affects on the game play and experience you may have. With items and pick ups that alter the current level or skip and change the levels you are on/playing or others that just completely alter your characters way of movement and its actions also altering the way you would then continue to play. Overall i'd say the game does offer quite a variety of different options and quite a depth when it comes to game play even if there isn't much you can do but go through level after level it is almost different each time you pick it up.

Difficulty: 8/10
The game has a solo and a co-op option which means obviously that if you're one of these that likes to go solo on games and be a long wolf about things you are going to have a much hard time as all the levels are ideally made for two players with 2 set and ready spawns on the majority, however this by far does not mean you can't play solo. With the game having many ways to get around each level and styles to play it co-op and solo can be just as much fun and as much of a challenge, co-op would be the better option really, not because it may make the game slightly easier but on the basis it is a great game to play along with others. The difficulty slower gets hard and more tricky as you progress through the 100 stages that the game has to stop you, personally I usually get quite far and in the higher numbered level's then after a few continues stop but have made it to the last level before and beat the game it is a great feeling after all the effort you have put in. Overall I would say the game is quite challenging but with time and patients in hand it can be done and can be beaten.?

Addictiveness: 9/10
I would say that this game is by far one of the most addictive I have ever played with many hours of entertainment. Time and time again i have come back to play this good old classic game with my brothers, family ?and friends it is just great no matter how many times over you play. So with hours and hours of playtime build up on this game and many memories and good times i recommend it to all who have some free time and are up to giving it a shot, it seems at first glance to be just plain and boring without much to it but trust me just give it a shot and you'll see how the bubble popping fever gets to you!!

Conclusion: 9.5/10
So after all the time I have spent playing this game and sharing it with family and ?friends, thinking it over studying it and just in general getting to know the game for what it really is. I really think it is one of the greatest timeless classic's that I have ever come across with its simple and solid idea's its got a place on my shelf always, I love this game i hope you enjoyed my review as i tried to cover all that i could and if you haven't already by now, give it a try!

I give it a 9.5/10

I think this is the same as the NES Version I don't see that much Difference and I like it unlike the Arcade you can actually Continue in Both Versions.

I prefer that port as well, although this isn't bad for a SMS game.
