Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Land of Adventure.
In this Forum Game, I will begin by introducing a main character and giving a brief description of him.
Then I will type a few sentences that will help this character begin his adventure.
Each user after that will add something to the story, and the next user who adds to the story can only build on the current story.
For example:
Me: Joe Schmo is a young blue bird that has trouble learning how to fly
User 1: Joe Schmo went on a journey to find the power of flight
User 2: Joe Schmo encountered an evil Raven who wanted the power for himself
User 3: Joe Schmo defeated the Raven and got the power of flight.
So each person can change the direction of the story, but they cannot change what already happened in the story. Someone could also add a twist like: Joe Schmo's real name is John Tron, and he is the Raven's son.
Each person can right up to five sentences for their addition to the story. A person may not write two posts in a row. And you do not have to continue the story.
Other ways to add to the story:
Introduce a new character
Add to the back story of the main character or another character
Create a parallel plot or side story that will eventually intersect with the main story
Invent an explanation for a past event in the story that foreshadows an event that you want to happen later in the story
I ask each user to read the previous events of the story carefully so that your addition to the story will blend well. To make it easier, every once in a while, I will combine the posts and make one post that tells the whole current story. So the next user who posts doesn't have to go through every post to get the gist of the story.
Before we start for real, let's do a practice run. In the next post I will introduce a simple character, and the posts will create a rather short story about that character. Got it?
The practice will help me iron out the rules, and answer your questions. It also may help to reference the users whose posts you are basing your addition to the story off of. So you can build on a specific user's ideas, but still stay in line with the core of the story.
When the story reaches a legitimate ending, the user who ends the story must end their post with "The End". Then I will introduce a new story, or begin a second "chapter" or "volume" that starts a new adventure for the current main character.
So if you are interested, go to my next post and begin reading. Have fun!
