This is really a minor, and honestly it didn't affect me, so I really shouldn't be this angry, but it did affect a few friends of mine, and how this situation was handled was just... let's just say, this whole mess could have been easily avoided.

I had a half day at school today, and all we were doing was two things: A ceremony in the first half of the day where seniors pass down awards to underclassmen for whatever accomplishments they receive from their classes or teachers; and an annual school event called "Battle of the Classes" where each grade competes in several events (scooter race, pie eating contest, tug-o-war, etc) to see who comes out on top.

This could have been a perfect day...

Well, the ceremony was perfect, but Battle of the Classes? Eh...

One problem with my school is how they deal with ineligibility. I think this goes for every school, but when a student fails at least 2 classes, they are deemed "ineligible," and therefore, cannot attend any school events or sports. Today, everyone was expected to go to the ceremony, so that was okay. But with Battle of the Classes, the students who are ineligible were to remain in another room and not attend.

And guess what? Because of how inconsistent the school is with either informing or reminding a student that they are ineligible, about 30 students didn't even know they weren't supposed to attend our event. So my loving vice-principal comes to the event when we were half-way done with it, stops the entire event, and calls for every single student who did not show up to the ineligibility room when they were supposed to.

Yeah... some students were wondering why this was such a big deal, and we were also forced to listen to the names of every single person who was ineligible. The students who were called down had no prior notice to their situation. Even better, I am informed by my friend who had been in the room the entire time that when all the students finally came down after that embarrassment, the vice-principal tells them all they are getting detention for "trying to trick her and go to the event anyways."

And to add a cherry to the top of this ice cream, my friend also told me that a boy who got called down and was given detention for this went straight to the vice-principal and told her he is actually passing. He even took his phone out and proved to her he isn't failing by showing her his grades. What did the vice-principal tell him?

"You're still ineligible, so you can't attend Battle of the Classes."

... Seriously can't wait to graduate in less than 2 weeks now. Srsly... the school staff already pulled crap like this earlier this year by firing our school wrestling coach for literally no reason. Now it's detention for all the students who didn't even have a notice or reminder that they couldn't go to an event. I mean, really? Maybe if they actually reminded them this morning in homeroom or something, this embarrassment and punishment they got would have been avoided.

I needed to vent... I mean I already vented, but it really annoys me. A few of my friends were also called down, and they are really mad about this mess. I don't blame them at all :/

Always nice to see a staff environment following the teachings of class studies so well, keeping up with that lovely attendance and reminders they always tell kids to not lose track of .  Ahhh...the taste of perjury/hypocrisy. Must be their favorite lunch break meal

5 STAR!! A+++ 4STAR!!!!!

While I didn't go to school here, I've heard stories about how horrible it was and still is. It was burned twice. I guess some people just never get the picture, huh?

m0ssb3rg935 : That's a beautiful story.

sonicthehedgehog57 :
A user of this :

Of course, school is so great, rating it 11/10, top notch education, eggcelent quality!

In all seriousness, no school is perfect, but the only issue students should actually have is their idiotic classmates, and backstabbing "friends" from there. But nope, my school has pretty awful principals as well as a corrupt board...

You'd be surprised how often its not the students that are the issue.
If its not the corrupt board/staff, its the teachers with tenure that just don't give a f*** anymore and basically collect a paycheck. (I had a math teacher like that... just about all her students failed, but they couldn't do anything to her...)

It's always difficult for me not to show frustration towards a school event if it's terribly ran. I'd rather be doing last-minute work for classes than watching those ineligible students get embarrassed like that. I feel so bad for them, especially the one who was eligible but the vice-principal tried to act like the staff made no mistakes.

Vanelan : My health teacher was like that last year. He was by far the most cranky teacher I ever had, he cussed every day, and he acted as if people are constantly going after him and trying to get him fired. His most common quote was that he had tenure so he wasn't going anywhere.

Just to further update, I went to a school event last night and talked to a friend. She told me that one of the kids who got called down to the room of ineligibility got suspended. When his name was announced, he left, saying "Peace out, homies." The principal pretty much screamed at him and gave him a 3 day out of school suspension.

Just for saying "Peace out, homies" to his classmates.

I don't think I understand the logic in this. Can anyone explain this to me?

I don't understand how that 1 kid was ineligible if he wasn't failing.

As for the kid that said Peace out, I am willing to bet its just the principal feeling like he lost control of the (already poorly handled) situation and was trying to seem like he had control.

I've heard of bad schools with worse staff members before, but that's on a whole new level. Did the staff fail to emotionally grow up past kindergarten? Even kindergarteners know that it's unfair to punish someone for something they had no idea was wrong in the first place. Maybe they need to be educated in their own school to learn that. As for giving a kid detention for saying "Peace out"? That's just stupid in every possible way. I wish there were a better way to do something about things like this, but I'm not aware of any. At the very least, you won't have to deal with these people again once the graduation comes.

I've never been to school, but I've heard plenty about them. I dunno if I already said this in the discord but this is absolutely ridiculous, schools never do anything right.

And it's frustrating to know there's nothing we can do about it.

Get a lawyer and sue the school for everything they've got! Make sure you name the other affected kids as defendants.

Pokemonfan1000 : The school just humiliated the students. It's not like they did something illegal.

Also, I'm not involved, and I'm not going to drag this situation to court. Otherwise, I'd do the same thing with every other crappy situation that's happened there.

And I just graduated, and I want nothing to do with that school anymore.

Pokemonfan1000 :

Okay, let me point this out to you.

No one is going to give a lawsuit to the school for ONE minor moment of humiliation.

If the students had wanted it dealt with, they can just tell their parents, and those parents can rage at the school until they find a solution to the problem.

What has happened is NOT worth suing over. That's like saying, every student should sue the school cuz they were unfairly suspended for defending themselves in a fight, or a student didn't like what the art teacher said about his work, or a student was put in the spot for answering a question on a homework assignment he didn't do.

Talking with their parents would be the better idea than initiating a lawsuits but if worst comes to worst then a lawsuit could be used (Just think of the kids who are barred from Prom because of their outfits. I think those are lawsuit worthy in my opinion and this could be too if the school decides to use this humiliation to affect the kids college life which would be extremely cruddy of the school to do such a thing)

Pokemon1000:

Okay, stop.

Just stop.

And before you reply to this post, please think about what you're saying to me.

You're telling me that because of one event that happened two weeks ago and no one cares about it anymore, we should all file a lawsuit over it, even though that is all expensive.

You're also assuming that my school keeps students from going to prom cuz of their outfits, or that they'll use the aforementioned event this thread was about to keep students from attending certain colleges.

I know you're suggesting ideas and all, but please think before you even offer these ideas.

Has my school ever told a student "You can't go to prom because of what you wear"?

Do you think my school goes out of their way to affect students' future college lives by trying to use minor events like this?

Do you think my school goes out of their way to affect students' future college lives by trying to use minor events like this?

After thinking about it, the lawsuit idea sounds pointless now especially with the cost and due to having no evidence to back up the students claim for the judge (For all the judge knows, the students could be making this up even though they're not) Would a simple, small protest be better so hopefully the staff doesn't do this again? And I'm not referring to your school either, I'm referring to the other schools that do this kind of stuff. It makes me sick when schools Barr kids from going to prom because of their outfits. The only situation I can think of where barring kids would be justified would be if their outfits are too revealing (I.E. They reveal something they shouldn't be revealing) And you never know what a school might do over a rogue situation like this. All it takes is that one idiot principal to spas out over something so minor that they put it in their permanent record even though it wasn't that bad. And I am sorry for going overboard with the lawsuit idea. I'm just on the mindset that lawsuits solve everything.

Oh Boy, that really does sound great *Sarcasm*
I had something similar happen to me actualy. I had a teacher who always refused to tell me my mark, and would not update it on the online mark system because she said that seeing my mark would make me worry
I have anxiety
Severe anxiety to the point where I missed school because I could not talk to anyone.
So when I was told that my mark might worry me
It worried me more because I had no clue what I had to do to get it up to passing, if I was passing, or even if I had a hope of passing.
the worst part? the way that my school structures its classes, We can really only fair one course in our whole 4 years before we would have to take a full extra year to have enough credits to graduate, and the course I didn't know I was passing was a full year course, meaning it counted as 2 courses, bur if you failed it last semester you had to take the whole year again.
I know how you feel.
