I'm curious as to where everyone finds out about what's going on in the world? Do you scroll Facebook and just believe what people post in a meme? Do you look at websites like Fark.com where news is bent to be funny but is still accurate?

Do you watch TV or read CNN or BBC online?

Where does your news come from? Why do you choose that particular website, station, or provider?

no 8120 : I get one of two local competing papers, The Detroit Free Press, once a week. But you and I are a bit older and we lived in a time when internet news didn't exist just yet. Sometimes by the time I get to the paper for national news, it's old news.

It's good for local happenings to see what my kids can do the next week.

In America our media has become very biased. So I chose my news sources carefully. I also check to make sure its legit. Anyway here is were I get my news from: BBC, CBS, Google News, Yahoo News, Factcheck, Polifact, and Fox news. However Yahoo and Fox post some biased things so that is why I do research on news stories.

I usually get my news from everywhere imaginable. To me, one of the best ways to hear what's being said is to carefully listen to what's NOT being said. If all of the channels are silent on one issue that's supposed to be quite major/important, I'll know there's something going on there. All of the news outlets and sources in the world will broadcast/spread some degree of noise and false information, but I do believe the truth is out there and usually, it takes a lot of work and critical thinking to dig out and sift through the information to figure out what's real and what's not, but in the end, it is worth it (to me) to learn and piece together the truth. Since the truth is usually weirder than anything we can even begin to think up, I don't discount the "weirder" and more "unreliable" sources sometimes, although I will take their information with a grain of salt.

Thus, I read and watch for news from around the world and local news and my sources include CNN, BBC, Fox, CBS, Google News, AP News, Yahoo News, The New York Times, my local news channels, Facebook, Twitter, Vizzed... =P , etc. among other sites and places. I also find real life social gatherings to be an important source of news because the people around me often talk about what's happening in the world, and they will point out some of the stuff that can't be released to the press because of well, politics. Quite often, other countries will censor their news (even CNN), since they know that some people don't bother searching for the facts beyond what they hear in the news, so they do try to use their news outlets to twist our understanding of their societies (for better or for worse). In some countries, they don't have certain rights we do, much less freedom of speech (punishment is death), so all we'll hear are whatever they want us to hear and anything that they're silent on may be part of the truth. This is why I also find it important to not just rely on the news, and to actually go visit other countries to see for oneself what is really going on there. Often, you'll be surprised to find it's a completely different world from what you imagined when you go off to live somewhere else for a few years or so.

Most of my news comes from Twitter. I hardly watch TV, and I use Facebook mostly to look at memes. Plus, Twitter allows for a wider range of interactions.

I don't really go for one particular source for news. I don't consider any source to be reliable, so I'll cross reference numerous sources, as well as the opinions and observations of people discussing a given topic and form my own beliefs from there. We don't have cable and literally the only thing we use newspaper for is lighting the grill, so all of my news comes from the internet. It's hard to monopolize and skew things on the internet when everything is so widely distributed.

MSNBC/NBC affiliated stations and sometimes but less often CNN but that's usually because the doctors office has it on in the waiting room (although this past time, it was HGTV)

I'm gonna be honest I get a lot of my news from youtube (or "alternative media" as they like to say all the time) and from a mixture of websites. I sometimes read a newspaper here and there but that is mainly for sport more so than anything else unless the headline is something major or something I would be interested in. However I am not a fan of newspapers as they are pretty bad for the most part. Apparently a lot of people my age get their news from youtube nowadays which can be bad or good depending on the variety of youtubers they listen to or if you like news channels or not.

In terms of TV the BBC is ok but I prefer STV if I was gonna pick a TV channel to listen to the news. Channel 4 doesn't look too bad either but I haven't seen enough of their news program to say much about it. There is also Channel 5 and Sky news as well for the UK which I also haven't watched much of.

I use Twitter to find out what's going on and get the links for the articles. Sometimes I'll click on the article but usually you get enough info seeing the same thing over and over.

Probably not the best source: other people. Not even a website or a newspaper, literally just people tell me things and I fact check them.

It's maybe not the best, but at least it isn't Fake News

yoshirulez! : Well, as long as you're fact checking what you hear, that's good enough in my opinion.

I don't care to watch the news on TV, nor do I watch anything else on TV usually anyway. I see most news on Facebook. But after finding out about a few articles I thought were true being fake, I fact check it before I put full belief in it having occurred.

For me where I live we have an app called "Omni". It's essentially an app that compiles news articles from many different sources and puts them in one place easy to find. That's where I get my info from.

Even though they are british and often make typos I find that the Daily Mail is by far the best American news source for breaking news coverage in the moment as it is happening especially during terror attacks. The cable news here is pathetic, they lack variety and are just way to slow at reporting things in the moment.

I don't really watch much TV, or even look at the Newspaper. So, most of the time I get my news from the trending section on Facebook, if it pops up on Bing when I am searching for something, or if my Dad mentions it while we are on the phone.
