The long awaited Nintendo Switch conference ended not too long ago, and along with it came with lots of important information. This information includes the price and release date, as well as various features that the system has. If you would like to watch the presentation yourself, here is a link to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuC4YLLkqME

The price

The price for the Nintendo Switch is $300 in US currency. The package in which the Switch itself comes in contains the Joy-Pads, the console itself, the AC adapter, cables needed for the console to work, etc.

The release date

The Nintendo Switch will release worldwide in almost all countries on March 3, 2017. Of course, there will be launch titles that will release at the same time. More about those titles below.

The features

The Nintendo Switch system and the Joy-Pads themselves have a lot of features that you wouldn't expect them to have. The Joy-Pads contain the usual buttons you would find on a controller, such as the A, B, X, Y buttons. It also comes with a motion camera, which can easily determine distance. There is also what they call Rumble HD. Suppose you have a glass of ice cubes. Lightly shaking that glass creates a sensational feeling. The Joy-Pads can replicate that feeling. The battery life for the Switch has been revealed to vary from game to game. A good estimate in general would be 2 - 6 and a half hours.

The games

In addition to all these features that were announced, they also showed off some games for the system. Below is a list of the games that were shown at the presentation, as well as a link to the trailer for that game.

1-2 Switch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7p47TOmicQ
ARMS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7s3UB_8dFM
Fire Emblem Warriors https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POsTR5iy_TI
Splatoon 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN4w5D2tzME
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJuiTw6nk7A
Super Mario Odyssey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kcdRBHM7kM
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw47_q9wbBE

You have some big titles in there, such as Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild, while you have the smaller titles such as 1-2 Switch and ARMS. What do you think of the Nintendo Switch after everything revealed so far? Would you consider buying a Nintendo Switch?

Breath of the Wild is the only one I'd get for the Switch until Odyssey or Smash comes out.

Just kind of disappointing they had 1-2 switch and ARMS there.. I wanted a console with a regular controller.

I watched the stream. I was fairly happy overall but man that translator didn't sound all that interested at all. The line up wasn't good either but I am hoping we get more news later on.

"For the price in Europe, please check in your local retailer". That's what happens when an entire market-region uses different currencies: other regions don't bother paying us attention

I like the many things it can offer: different ways of playing just like the Wii, classic playing with buttons and joysticks... It seems to have gotten up to date with graphics, which was one of the weak points of Nintendo for a long time, at least when I saw the footage of Odyssey. Definitely something worth of looking on, I should seriously consider getting rid of my Wii once and for all.

While it wasn't in the reveal trailer, we can't have a thread about the Switch in Vizzed without mentioning our beloved Bomberman. The official Nintendo channel has a short trailer for the new Bomberman game, Super Bomberman R, and it will be one of the early titles because it's announced for March. One more game to add to my list of possibly wanted.

I'm going to hold my cynical side in check here. There's a lot to say here.

The system is disappointing still, and that won't change for me no matter the price or games. I still hate controller wagging no matter what the game looks like. But the games...

1. 1-2 Switch. This game...I'll be the first to admit that my opinion is simply my own and not indicative of anyone else's. Also I'm aware many will love this, but me? No. Just no. Why should I pay for a game that I can play for free? It's more imagination than video game. Literally I play some of these exact games all the time with my nephews, and I don't need a $300 console plus game to do it. That's me.

2. ARMS. Oh gosh no. This is worse than 1-2 Switch. What is that even supposed to be? But worst of all, the controls prove my worst fear for the Switch: it's Wii 2.0. Seriously, look at the control method. Nintendo claimed this was going to be a step into the future of gaming, but it looks like they're going BACKWARDS to the Wii. Piggybacking on Wii was a lot of what caused the Wii U to fail, and now they're doing it more blatantly. :/

3. Fire Emblem Warriors. YES. The first bright spot in the lineup for me. I love the warriors games. If I'm honest, I didn't even watch the video, instead I just checked the description. "[insert something here] meets the warriors games" is all I needed to hear.

4. Splatoon 2. For Nintendo, a big win. As far as I personally am concerned, a profound Meh. I can't say anything negative about it, I just don't find it at all interesting.

5. Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This is what I call a fan trailer — it tells you absolutely squat about the game unless you're a fan of the series and so know what it's like already. For an outsider like me, I see nothing but people running, riding animals, and idling. I suspect it'll be a decent game given what tiny bit I know about it (that it's an RPG...I think), but that's all I can even guess at.

6. Super Mario Odyssey. This is what I've been waiting to see for over a year now. Miyamoto said they were taking Mario down a radically different path...I don't see it at all. The game looks great, like the first and only Super Mario to appeal to me since 64. I seriously want to play this game now, if only the controls don't end up Wii-fied, and the Switch can field at least a dozen more appealing NON-MARIO games for me over the course of it's life. $300 is cheap for a console, but a lot of money nonetheless.
My only issue is that, it started off better than it ended, and that scares me. The game looked insanely awesome when he was in the real world city, but the later areas and such seemed...boring by comparison. The forest looking level did manage to appeal to me though. And the hat throw/jump was nice.

7. Breath of The Wild. I saw this at E3 and raved about it then, so I'll spare you now. The game looks very promising.

I saw some other games for it too, but most weren't mention worthy. The Switch overall has actually lost my attention even more. However if they produce a few more good looking non-motion games then I could see myself buying in at a reduced price in two or three years. Of course an exceptionally well made Harvest Moon could change my mind on that.

Nice work, Lex.

Eh.....looks like people will be lining up to buy the thing. I'm not really interested in consoles that doesn't give me a reason to buy them. This I think its Nintendo biggest hit of console to release and be seen to people. '-'

Well overall, I'm happy with the specs that have come out, although I was hoping for a price point around 250, but with the talk about battery life/etc I'm pretty happy overall. Decent lineup of games, but honestly when the system launches, I really only am worried about playing through Zelda at first. Although a lot of the issues I've had with Nintendo console launches over the past couple systems is that there are limited decent games available near launch.

This time around sounds better with some promising titles on the way, but I will wait further news.

Overall, this is as excited I have been for a Nintendo Game (Zelda) and a Nintendo console in a long time. I think this is a really cool console idea for fans of Nintendo. Something you can take with you, but also play at home easily connected to your TV.

My only thoughts now are, how hard is it going to be able to find one of these systems? Nintendo has a bad track record of making their products scarce at release. I'm still trying to pick up one of those darn NES classics....lol

Also, did anyone notice during the Mario Kart 8 Delux Reveal, that it looks like they are bringing back the old Battle Mode from the SNES game! That makes me want to buy a MK game for the first time in YEARS.

Eirinn :

Only 1-2 Switch and ARMS are confirmed to have motion controls. The controller isn't a motion controller, but it CAN be.

I want to remain optimistic. There were good and bad things here.

Pros: SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY! Everything about this game made me want a Switch!

Then we have the latest Breath of the Wild trailer. One that made me actually want the game. Just the fact that we are actually getting a story, and characters is a huge sigh of relief. They really, truly, made this game look like a storyless and empty overworld. And the fact you can confront the final boss from the very start of the game only made that feel more uneasy. But this trailer showed something that no previous footage showed. Characters and emotion!

Fire Emblem Warriors tickled my curiosity. Hyrule Warriors was a lot of fun, but it got really repetetive really fast. And there was no reason to not spam the same combo over and over again with each character. I am hoping that FE Warriors remedies this somehow. And if not...Well at least I have hopes of one more time being absolutely invincible against an oncoming army as Hector!

Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The game that is everything Xenoblade Chronicles X wanted to be--and never could be. And hopefully the dialogue won't be butchered, removed, and watered down by Treehouse this time.

Splatoon 2 looks like a ton of fun! Unfortunately, I will never forgive Nintendo for choosing to charge us for online gameplay.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks great. Although I would have loved it more had there been more characters shown, and maybe some single player stages. But it is great to see my boys Dry Bones and King Boo back!

Cons:

Paid online, paid online, PAID ONLINE!!!!!! I cannot believe that Nintendo went full greed with this choice. Sure, in the past Nintendo's free online services ranged from unplayable to minor cases of lag. But everyone liked that they didn't charge you more. Once you bought the system and game, that was it. The PC is now the only platform that doesn't charge you extra money to play your games online. And when everybody complains that the Nintendo servers are as crappy as ever, I can't wait for that crapstorm.

Motion controls. Ugh--I really thought we were done. But we instead get 1-2-3 Switch and Arms. Essentially Wii tech demos that have been refurbished into a $60 game. I cannot believe they still are forcing this stupid control scheme.

Aside from connecting you to online servers, there is nothing the Switch app can do that Skype, Steam, Discord, and text messaging can't do for you.

You have to pay actual real human money to connect to the internet in 2017.

That about wraps up my thoughts on the Switch.

A user of this : "The PC is now the only platform that doesn't charge you extra money to play your games online."

Not counting all the subscription in MMOs, paid games, crowdfunding games, mobile micro-transaction games, and internet not being free. Ya you can almost count it free to play.

I'm actually pleased on what games I saw I was impressed.this won't make me to buy the console, but....I know some will be on steam so I would get it there instead. XD

Eniitan :

Nintendo doesn't put their games on Steam. Unless you mean 3rd party games then yeah those might be on Steam.

Eniitan : I think you mistaken, not one single game has announce steam promotion. i looked through the official trailers and none have it. Sonic is on PC but this is sega we are talking about who themselves hate steam. Xenoblade Chronicles is Nintendo's now because if it is allowed to be in smash brothers then it got to be official. Arms can not be played on a PC. Fire Emblem is Nintendo forever too.

So ya none of them are coming to steam.

Sega hates Steam? They've released a ton of their games through Steam, though.

Lexatom : your only thinking of Sega Genesis & Mega Drive Classics which have many different studios but not all of sega's classic IP. Also not all of sonic games have been on steam because Nintendo owns small parts of the games series (thats why its on Switch). Also we do not know anything about the deal between sonic team or steam so we are left out of the dark in that detail.

Eniitan : heros what, there has been many fake articles about games from consoles going to steam and now its fake articles  about games going to switch.

mastergame :

Sega has put many Sonic games on Steam: Generations, Sonic 4, Adventure 1 + 2, etc.

Nintendo doesn't own any part of Sonic. They had a deal with them around 2013 to make 3 games together but that's over with. Sega has full control over the series because they are the ones who created it.

Lexatom : nope read your history, sonic team own it. The games you see on steam do not present sega but rather sonic team as well as other studios who wish to release it on steam. again we do not know what deals were made with valve so none of us can say for sure if sega officially made deals with valve.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_Team

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Division_(business)

"the studio began to create and develop new intellectual properties, whilst continuing to oversee production on the Sonic series."
