Just like the title says,have you ever wondered,"Why is this YouTuber so popular?" I have wondered that myself about some of them. I guess I wonder why people LOVE PewDiePie and Markiplier? They are just  people who do game plays and are only somewhat funny. I cannot understand why Pew has around 50M subs and I think he has a ruby play button and Mark has 10M and has a diamond play button.

I think its probably because they're so mainstream that people probably get to youtube just because of them you know what im sayin? But seriously, i think most of the 'youtube addict' people started from Pewds and KSI and stuff. Tbh, me too, back when hi got 1 mil subs or stuff.

I personally like Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, and the slew of Matthias' channels because I like the humor, and the games they play. In Matthias' case, the humor is just so... meh, it's good. His Team Edge channel I am the unofficial score keeper for. And then his other channels are pretty good too. I like having the different family friendly humor and then having the cursing every other word as well. It's a nice variety. 

I also watch CinemaSins, The Film and Game Theorists and a few other series. It's nice to have content that I find interesting that isn't just about games or stuff found on the internet. 

Because kids are stupid.

All joking aside, I'm subscribed to a bunch of Youtubers but don't watch them. I need to fix that. :x

I like Markiplier, but I much prefer channels like Game Grumps.

Thanks for the replies. I agree PewDie is mainstream and kids are just addicted to him. I have seen Mark on other channels and I cannot figure out what he is liked,he seems like a nice guy and all,but normally nice guys do not have 10M subs. Jack,I think the name just turns me off,sorry,no offense. I do enjoy Game Grumps,they are more like average gamers.

I usually watch Crazy Russian Hacker for his DIY videos,life hacks,and product testing,Metal Jesus Rocks for all things gaming,Drunken Master Paul for a bit of insanity and seeing what he and MJR get into,Alpha Omega Sin for his unfiltered views on things,Gundog 4314 for MRE reviews around the world,I like seeing what other countries do for MREs for their soldiers.

Personally I just don't understand why people like prank channels unless they're mindless idiots who like bad content. It's plagueing youtube so much right now it hurts.

Another thing I don't understand is why people like Smosh. It's just two really immature guys being random in front of a camera.

And don't even get me started on Leafy. Leafy's content is absolute trash and so is his fanbase.

Smosh sometimes comes out with decent stuff like their Assassin's Creed rap. But you are right,a lot of their stuff is mind numbing.

yoshirulez! : yeah, i feel you dude, fake pranks are what's up right now and people seems to be crazy about it and it makes me cringe about the fact that they don't even know it fakes even tho the 'pranked' person looks at the camera a few times and my friends are just like "nooo she didn't see it, she's just looking the other way, this prank is 100% legit bla bla bla.."
I personally watch some pranks, but only from the faze clan member cause i think its for real and i support the faze clan cod team (im not a fanboy or anything, i just like e sports lol)

Any honest YouTuber admits at some point that they mainly got lucky. Then word of mouth goes from there, and of course "viral" videos. There's a few different methods to the madness, but at the end of the day, luck.

Skilledtree : Luck is a huge part of it. So is hard work and perseverance. But I think the biggest part is YouTube itself. It decides what videos are 'trending' and how their algorithm is set up,and YT has fouled that up repeatedly.

You're right though. I didn't want to make it sound like people don't work for it, trust me I know they do. I just consider getting your foot in heavily based on luck. Some will do it every day forever, and never get a chance. Others will release one video and get 100,000's of views. You know what I mean?

Hard work will help compensate for bad luck, but yeah.

Game Theory is another one I don't get. The entire channel is, to keep this site friendly, him just talking out of his own butt. He thinks he knows better than everyone else, and has really stupid reasoning to his newest stuff. He used to be good back when he just applied real physics to video game items, and stuff like that. But none of this "Rosalina from a parallel universe where Luigi and Peach were togegher and Peach is dead now." or "Sans is Ness because I said so." or "OBJECTIVELY WRONG FNAF THEORY NUMBER 753".

Anyways, my main youtube channels are penguinz0, videogamedunkey, and vinesauce. So who knows if my opinions hold any water.

Skilledtree : YouTube has screwed up so much,it is pathetic. Of course,they blame those of us that are smart enough to use Ad Block and thus a new scourge was born,You Tube Red. Seriously,pay to watch a video? I know you did not mean to make it sound like it is not work. It is hell to try to retain viewers and attract new ones. There are very few bulletproof ways to guarantee views. Even Tipsy Bartender,the channel famous for chicks and drinks,changed his formula to make it a quick video that does not focus on the girls. Luck and work,go hand in hand.

A user of this : People like drama. That is why reality TV still exists. I agree both Leafy and Keemstar are cancers to YT though.

I do like Game Theory,but again,it is hard to equate actual science to a video game. That is why stuff like Death Battle is popular. That is like trying to figure out why people love the FNAF series.

Now I may seem like a misogynist,but I love channels that shows a what a load of crap that modern day feminism is. These women have to realize that they have so many opportunities and rights and privileges that women in third would countries could never know. And yet,they have the gall to whine about stuff like an X-Men movie poster where Mystique is being choked out by Apocalypse.

I would say that people like particular YouTubers because they grow up with them. It's not that they like everything they do, it's just that they see one video by a YouTuber that they like, and they start watching more by them and soon grow to like them over time.

zanderlex : That would be true,you see how they have progressed or regressed depending on your YouTuber. And they do come and go. Some YouTubers let it go to their heads and think they are that great or whore themselves out to sites like Kickstarter. I know producing a good video is not cheap nor easy,but try to make sure it is actually worth it for those that might back you.

I'm not on YouTube a whole lot, so that may play a big factor in why I'm not really all that hyped about the big YouTubers. I really like FPSRussia, though. What isn't entertaining about watching a Georgia redneck fake a Russian accent while dual wielding .50 caliber sniper rifles loaded with armor piecing incendiary ammunition, firing at an old, broken washing machine filled with explosives and dodging the fragmentation and then driving to McDonald's in a tank for lunch?

I think it's all about personality, but that could go either way. There are people with horrible personalities that are very popular, but they feed off drama. A lot of channels I watch, which are mostly gaming channels, usually give their insight on a game, or they are ridiculous and stupid when doing a let's play. Pretty much they are just having a lot of fun. Then there are channels that are informative on games, and maybe show hidden gems, or games I never heard about. If someone has a great personality, they are upbeat, and like to have fun, the chances of them becoming well liked is good, sure they won't get 50 million subs like PewDiePie, hell they might not hit 1000, because Youtube is over saturated in general, but they can get a small following.
