I normally am direly against anecdotal evidence, but seeing as how this is an opinion thread, I'm going to throw my two cents in.

Every single Muslim who knows I'm bisexual, is very supportive to me. I only know one Christian who's accepting, let alone supportive of LGBT people.

there are bad apples in every group, and if you're actually going to pretend you know enough about this entire religion and its people to make a general statement as horrible  and ridiculous as that, then i guess the benefit to it is that you're helping shed light on the types of mindsets that are responsible for dividing our people today.

if you expect me to actually believe what you just said is true, it's going to take a lot. sources, maybe? that'd be a start. half of my family is Muslim. my mom's cousin is GAY and MARRIED. i live in an entire country full of them, i go to school with them, i play with them after school, and i'm not even going to bother explaining how inaccurate your view on them is. you can try getting other people to hate and fear and drive us further apart, but it's not going to work on me. i've already seen enough of who you're so set on defaming to know that what you're saying just isn't true.

i know these kinds of things would be easier to debate if the world were as ugly and simple as "these people are good, and these people are bad," but that fairytale-like dystopia you seem to hope exists just doesn't anymore. sorry.

earthwarrior : I am not talking about 100+ years ago, I am talking about now. The world we are currently living in. The world where predominantly-Christian countries treat LGBT people with respect, while predominantly-Muslim countries hang them and throw them off buildings. The world where 49 people were killed at a gay bar at the hands of a Muslim. The world where 52% of Muslims IN THE UK (so not including the even more radical ones that live in the middle east) support penalties for homosexuality.

like i said before, people of all cultures are making progress, and this kind of change is more complicated than it would have to be for us to talk about it easily. i know it's tough to discuss when stuff is messy, but we can't make things up and pretend for the sake of simplicity. ESPECIALLY not when said assumptions are alleged atrocities that tarnish the reputation of 31% of our world's population . come on, bro. we're big kids! see this?



everyone is adapting at their own pace, and if Muslims truly are lagging behind, then perhaps we can attribute it to the fact that a lot of them haven't  been exposed to certain societal norms and ways of thinking. they're never going to be able to listen to and participate in debates concerning issues like LGBT rights if countries that would normally offer such experiences turn them down. i hope you see where i'm going with this.

it's great that people like you and i can learn about and discuss topics such as the one at hand, but a lot of others live in stricter countries that limit freedom of speech and therefore hinder curiosity and change in general. if we insist so strongly on keeping them there, then how are they going to become the open-minded people we continuously s*** on them for not being?

anyway, i can't argue with you about the predominantly-religious countries. it's no secret at all, and frankly, i'm not afraid to say that i think saudi arabia is scum............ that's a rant topic for another time tho.

As a lesbian, black, Muslim woman who came into this country illegally from Mexico, I have to say i am very spooked

Really late to the party here, but still want to say something about this "Muslims want to kill LGBT members" thing.

First of all, most Muslims in the west think about this the same way most western Christians do, we don't necessarily agree with it, but we're not gonna do anything about it, let alone kill them. (Most of us, there are some rotten apples, obviously) I can say that as a Dutch Muslim who lives in a predominantly Turkish, Muslim neighbourhood.

Now, it is true that in the middle east there is a big anti-homosexual sentiment. The thing is though, that isn't really a religious thing, rather its a cultural thing. Ask the christians there, and they'd give you an extremely similar answer.

The point i'm trying to make is that most western muslims have the same standpoint as most western christians, and that middle eastern muslims have the same standpoint as middle eastern christians, as it is, again a cultural thing, not religious.

Also we don't want to kill them, where did you get that from?

I read an article where the Mexican government is protecting its citizens because they are concerned about this as well.

Now,if they came here legally,they have nothing to fear. Illegals,they should fear it. The reason that many other Presidents looked the other way about illegals is because they were used to cast votes for them in conjunction with cities that allowed them to vote.

It bothers me how scared people are of donald trump when he really could be what this nation needs. He's better than Obama, that's for sure. Nearly anyone would have been. And it's obvious he has no problems with any other countries, so why are people afraid it'll cause war? Hillary most likely would have caused war too, since putin did threaten to start war if she was elected. Unless that was debunked..

All I know is, 2017 looks like its going to be a fantastic year and I'm hoping he does good with the country and other countries.
