Friends are good.

Friends can also be not good.

And when they're not good you don't wanna be friends with them anymore.

So I have a question for you all- what causes you to not be friends with someone anymore?

For me it's if they've hurt me so many times that it's not worth it anymore. My former best friend in elementary is a prime example. She was nasty to me on a few occasions that I just couldn't take it anymore. And now she moved away from where I live so I'm happy now.

If they start to mess up my life I unfriend them and never look back because I'm very serious when it comes to self preservation.

I feel no sadness and I don't think twice about it.

For me, it's complicated.... Friendship, or any other kind of relationship, for that matter. First of all, I've always found it silly that there's some sort of specific criteria to meet before being called a friend, as if it's somehow official at that point. To me, a "friend" is someone who plays nice around you when they stand to benefit from it and are only there when it's convenient. To me, all "friends" are fair weather friends. I would say the say the same thing about family, as well. If blood relation means so much, then why are so many people taken advantage of and thrown under the bus by their own kin? Why should we have an unconditional obligation to a relative when they're only using you to get what they need and make sure their phone is off when you need to reach them? I don't really like using the word friend much, but I can't think of any other word that would make a suitable substitute. Some people still have real families, but it seems to me that, outside of a particular family unit, extended family are nothing but ruthless con artists that see you as an easy target because they know you and take advantage of your loyalty. I wouldn't insult you by calling you family. For me, there are people I trust, who are my real friends and family, and then there's everyone else.

I don't really unfriend people

I do if we don't talk much of if there wasn't much significance between us as individuals, but that's about it. If anything, I prefer to make relationships work rather than fall apart, and as long as I believe I can be a good influence on them, and they aren't influencing me negatively, I'll probably be friends with them as long as I can.

End of story.

Long answer or short answer?

Short answer: They act like a jerk.

Long answer: They act like an extreme jerk. Example: the only person I recall unfriending (aside from one that sort of implied they wanted me to in a way) I unfriended because they made a racist comment. That comment wasn't against my race or nationality, but that's just not cool ya know? You don't talk bad about people because of their skin color or where they're from. That's stupidity.

So now you know what you must do to finally get off of my list, Sanspai. I saw through this trick! D: lol

I only unfriend people for very few reasons. Either A. They REALLY made me mad. B. We haven't talked in forever. And I don't really think of them as friends anymore. Or C. They asked me to.

What causes me to be unfriend a person. Well, if they betray me, slander me, send me vulgar pictures, or if they try to get me to support their habit. I have only had to do this a few times.

Last time I did was against a former friend. Me and him were friends up until I was in the 10th grade. He moved away. But I found out he had slandered my name behind my back. He also showed up to my house begging for money. Well he came back after I graduated High School and was in college. He was at the same college too. He kept hitting me up to buy his booze cause I was 21 and he was 19. I told him now cause I could go to jail for that. He developed a full blown drinking problem. Then he got into drugs and more alcohol. Kept hitting me up for money and then said very vulgar things. So I cut ties with him.

I never really consider friends to be not good. Any friend is a good thing. I participated in the DARE program at school so I have not really had a problem with making the wrong friends. My intuition about sour influences and shoddy behavior is now highly developed.  I would just not hang out with someone if they were not at all nice to me unless they were a package deal with someone who was a friend to me. I get a little prickle[not unlike Harry Potter's scar] inside me when an A-hole enters my presence. I could call it "jerk radar" but it does not work that way. I have to see or hear or smell them clearly.

When a friendship breaks down for me, is when the friend forgets about me. "Yeah, haven't talked with you in a long time. I made all these new friends and they burn up my telephone wires day and night. We should catch up."

I say no thanks to second chance friendships usually. If they wanted to call me back every time I called them, they would have. It takes two to maintain that comradery.  I can't keep it going all on my own. Cut the phone line and never call again.

That is my piece. Thank you.

For me, it takes a lot to get me to unfriend someone.

Mainly, it boils down to one of these qualities...

1. I get bored of you as a person. That's not to say I don't have boring friends. I do have boring friends, ones I rarely talk to, but ones I'll keep in contact with because I care about them.

But if you ever become a boring human being, someone who doesn't have any personality, or someone who doesn't appear to be advancing in any way, shape, or form, I will probably stop calling you a friend. As a person I want to continue to climb higher, and refuse to associate myself with people who have no intention of climbing in some way.

2. You become a rude person I don't recognize. I'm slow to make friends, because I want to get a general idea of a person's worth before I friend them. If I friend you, it's because I've made the assumption you are a nice person who I can communicate with, based on the little knowledge I have about you.

If you betray that, and become someone I do not recognize, then I cannot say I will be staying around you. It kind of ties into what I said above. I want people who will continue to climb higher, and I also want people who are not going to drag me down with their bulls***.

3. Mainly, however, it's when you stop trying to be my friend. If you do not want to stay friends with me, I'll let you out of my life very easily. I don't want people in my life who don't want to be there.

Well some people here has said what I would have to say. When someone crosses the line for me when they do, that's when I cut them off and distance myself from them. I find that a lot more easier. Also do something so extreme. Betray me for no reason whatsoever or do something unexpected as in something not good.

There's really only been 2 times where I've unfriended someone because of something they did. One of those times was actually on here but I'm not gonna get in to that.

Anyways the reason i unfriended the other one is because he had very differing political opinions. That might sound like a dumb reason to cut ties with someone but he supported a political party that hates ''my kind''. I can't really stay friends with someone that literally wants me out of the country lol.

Really, the only reason i would unfriend you is if you have extreme differing political opinions or you really, and i mean really cross the line, like talk s*** behind my back or something. That hasn't really happened to me though (have i said really enough times, really)

Most of the time when i stop being friends with someone its not because they've done anything wrong, its because we haven't talked in ages.

EDIT: had to retype half of the post because im dumb

As a general rule, I don't unfriend people. But I might unfriend people largely depending on what is on their profiles or what they post and whether I or others can see it. To prevent exposure to certain things, I might unfriend them. I've had a few traumatic experiences because of friending certain people. I don't resent them for that, but I just don't want to hang around them too much because of their influence on me. I want and need to be a good friend, but I also want and need good friends as well. It's hard to be a great friend when you have little but poor examples to draw from. But people aren't their examples, people are people. So the way I see it, unfriending someone just because I don't like them much isn't a cool thing to do. There are many valid reasons to unfriend someone though, not just limited to how I generally judge how to do it. My mother, for example, limits her Facebook friend list because she doesn't want to get bogged down. She doesn't seem very concerned about whether or not she offends someone, she mainly wants to use Facebook to have the best experience she can. Me, I'm not that direct. And maybe I should be. I mean, I don't want to get bogged down, either. But I also want to show I care. But there's a better way to do that than to have someone on my "friends" list. Because God knows that list extends beyond whatever Facebook, Vizzed, Steam, etc. says it is. Giving someone my time and help is a much better way to show I'm a friend than simply adding someone to a list, no matter how significant that list may be.

Well in here I have no friends really so no need to do that. Well sometimes I unfriend someone who unfriends me.. Why keep that person in your friend list if he does not even want to be your friend? But other than that, I don't hate anyone so I do not see any good reason to unfriend them from my part...
