I'll be working a full time job at a local factory starting October 3rd. For the first 2-4 weeks they'll be training me in and I'll be working 1st shift from 6 AM - 2 PM central time, Monday - Friday. After I've been trained in, they'll be switching me to 5th shift which will be 6 PM - 6 AM central time, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

At the moment I invest 60+ hours into the site a week but once I start working, I'll only be investing 10-20 hours a week. While I'm on 1st shift, I wont be working on the site as much, most likely around 10-15 hours a week. Once I've switched to 5th shift, I'll be working on the site around 20 hours a week.

I made a lot of sacrifices to try and continue working on this site full time but I eventually just ran out of money to keep going. The site's revenue is 1/4 of what it was 4 years ago and the last blow was earlier in the year when Nintendo had me remove the Pokemon and Mario games. I was barely making enough to live off of up until that point but having to remove the most played games on the site was too much. After completely draining my 401K, all my savings accounts and selling $1000s worth of games from my personal collection, I'm basically out of money to keep going. This full time job was something quick I needed to take before my family and I lost our home.

This will most likely be temporary until the site's finances pick up again or until I reach my first milestone goal with my Patreon page. I'm determined to get the site's traffic back up because I know this site means just as much to everyone else as it does to me. Working on Vizzed full time has been a dream come true for the past 7+ years so I want to say thanks to everyone who has helped me make this site what it is

Staff : Since this is my last free week, let me know of anything on the site that needs to be fixed. I'll take care of anything that's viewed as important as long as it's something that'd take less than an hour. If there's anything that should be taken care of that's high priority of that I've forgotten to take care of, be sure to let me know ASAP.

EDIT: A list of reported issues that I'll try and get to:
-The logout link doesn't work on mobile
-Fix ability to upload songs and remove songs in the Video Game Music Room
-After someone replies to a thread so many times, despite having someone else bump it for them, they're not allowed to post in them anymore
-changing the title of a song in the VGMR without selecting a keyword adds "Other (Specify)" as a keyword

I'm just going to assume that 6AM to 2AM was a typo, because working 20 hours a day is insane. Maybe after you're there for a little while and you get in good with the higher ups, you could just casually something like "Oh, by the way, I build websites and I know a software engineer. Need any work done?"

As far as issues with the site go, there have been several little nitpicks that I've picked up, but nothing major. The logout link doesn't work on mobile, there's a problem with people not being able to reply to a thread even though there've been posts by several other people, I still can't upload songs to the VGMR and I also can't remove songs that aren't working. That's all I have at the moment, but I'll come back if I find more.

m0ssb3rg935 : The logout link on mobile doesn't work on pages with the new site layout. It does work in the few pages that still use the old one, so while it still isn't something major there's something wrong in the new code for mobile.

I don't know of anything else that needs to be fixed. I had noticed a few things, but all have been solved now.

Good luck with your new job, man. I hope things start going uphill from now on in your life.

m0ssb3rg935 : Yeap that was a typo lol.

Having computer related skills should help me work my way up.

Do you have more information regarding users not being able to reply to threads?

EX Palen : Thanks, I appreciate it.

Apparently, after someone replies to a thread so many times, despite having someone else bump it for them, they're not allowed to post in them anymore. I think it has something to do with the system preventing sandwich posting, even though it's not being sandwiched. Examples would be EX Palen's staff thread, yoshirulez!' and leggy's ask anything and a sports thread that Ghostbear1111 was posting in.

Good for you. Let's take a minute and all appreciate the effort and time and blood and sweat that David has put into this whole experience called Vizzed.com.

Thank you.

You're doing a great job and I have a lot of fun that I'm still here and enjoying myself. I'm learning things, I'm talking to people, I'm doing me and it's fun to do.

Thanks for the work.

Good luck doing what you're doing. With any luck, you pick up skills, you get better at it, you get a raise, you develop your career and you might find something you like. Maybe we fade in to the distance as you go forth and have a new line of work. I know your goal is to make this your primary job but you might just find out you really love working in that new environment. Or if you don't do it the rest of your life, at least you had a good time while you were there. Nothing is worse than hating the job you're at and not being able to make a change for the better.

Thanks for the work and the effort. You put a good product out there for us to enjoy. We appreciate it, even if all you hear are the complaints, the bugs, and the problems. I'm happy for you for making things work for your family. They're more important than we are.

We'll get us figured out. No worries.

Oh, yeah, the "you have too many back and forth posts" thing. I have grown accustomed to PMing tRIUNE that I even forgot about my staff thread.

Not sure if something can be done about that, but looks like the problem has been around for a long time. There's another staff member who lost access to his thread back in early 2015, but probably there are examples of older cases as well.

m0ssb3rg935 : Thanks for bringing that up. Stupid blurry memory of mine...

Wow, I had no idea you had to give up so much...I wish I could support you, and this site more.

I'm glad you got a decent job, at least. Are you getting good pay for it? What will you do at the factory anyway?

I appreciate this place a lot, as well as everything you've done for it. I sorta thank this site for keeping me alive, really. I know this has got to be a tough choice to make, and the transition into a new full time job will be hard. But we all appreciate any and all time you put into this place. Thank you for making a happy, enjoyable, fun community for all of us.

legacyme3 : Thanks

m0ssb3rg935 : Thanks for the info, I'll add that to my todo list.

Ghostbear1111 : Vizzed will always be part of who I am. I've been invested into Vizzed and Vizzed Board for nearly 15 years which is almost half my life and I hope to continue investing into it for as long but hopefully longer. Thanks for the encouragement

EX Palen : I'll work on getting that fixed.

Pacman+Mariofan : Thank you.

A user of this : The pay will be decent since I'll be working on the least in demand shift. The factory makes circuit boards and I'll be starting out inspecting circuit board panels but I actually applied to a computer position and I'll most likely be upgraded to that position at some point which will be a little less mindless and should pay a little more as well. I wont be doing anything that utilizes my skills unfortunately but hopefully my computer skills help me work my way up. I would've preferred getting a job which utilized my skills but due to finances, I had to get whatever I could quick. Anyways, thanks for the support and I'm glad that the Vizzed community has been there for you

Good luck with the new job.
The hours shouldn't be too bad... might take a little while getting used to working 12 hour shifts.

I do plan on becoming a Patreon supporter. I just need to get rid of some credit card bills first. ^^;

Congratz on getting the job David.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head on site that needs to be fixed, but if something comes up before this month ends, I'll let you know.

Davideo7 : This is an excellent step. I didn't know who posted this, then when I saw it was you, I was hyped! I hope this job will help relieve some of your stress and get things in order. You need a life away from Vizzed to help recenter you, so to speak. I need a life away from the internet, but I'm doing a swell job of that now Actually, I kinda hit a breakthrough today. I'm hoping to maintain it. Glad to hear other people are doing the same.

I didn't even know you were sacrificing so much to keep this site going. From what I'm reading, though, things should be able to get back on track, given a bit of time. I think others have said this before, but your personal life comes above providing updates all the time on this site.

Good luck with your new job. Maybe this is a good thing for you as you can re-build your 401K savings back up and also get other benefits that you may not have gotten while being self-employed. It sucks the ad industry has tanked with all the ad blocking going on but it is what it is. The fact you were able to live 7 years off ad revenue alone is pretty much what all webmasters aspire of doing including myself (though I never had much luck off ad revenues, I will probably just do what all business do from now on... charge money for things).

This is the lucky break you have been waiting for David. This should and I hope give you the money you need to help things balance on check for real life, and on vizzed as well. I don't really have anything else to say really, but this is really good since we know you have been really struggling with things as of late.

It looks like changing the title of a song in the VGMR without selecting a keyword adds "Other (Specify)" as a keyword. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but it does raise a question: when the total amount of tracks allowed per playlist is limited to 1,000, are playlists sorted by keyword or composer the exception to the rule? If they aren't, then that would mean that, after a keyword is added to 1,000 songs, we won't be able to apply that keyword to any more, right?

I'm really sorry to hear you had to drain your 401(k) - I've been thinking about retirement a lot more, and I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you. I'm in Canada, so I don't know exactly how it works but I hope you can put the money back in. I also have to give you props for stepping up and doing what you need to do for your family. Accepting you need another job couldn't have been easy.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
