CHARACTER
Soma Cruz, the protagonist of Castlevania Aria of sorrow and its sequel Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, is a Japanese high school student (or an exchange student if you're playing the American version) from the year 2035.
STORY
Soma went with his childhood friend, Mina Hakuba, to see the solar eclipse, when everything started. When they went to the top of a hill so they could get a better view of the eclipse, something strange happened. The next thing they knew, they were outside of the infamous Dracula's castle in Europe. As they were approached by a man named Genya arikado and attacked by monsters, Soma fought back and learned that he had the "power of dominance" which, Arikado explained, allows him to absorb the souls of monsters he's killed.
Spoiler:
as Some went through the castle, he learned that somehow, he was the reincarnation of Dracula, which was why he had this power. After destroying the very essence of the castle, him and Mina managed to escape, and they went back to their mostly normal lives, while he still continued to fight and try to keep the darkness inside from consuming him.
ABILITIES
When he absorbs a specific monster's soul, he can use the monster's powers, which help him gain abilities in fields such as attacking, defense, raising his strength, making him immune to certain status effects, or giving him new skills for exploration, along with Soma himself being skilled with a variety of weapons, from swords, to spears, to hammers, to guns.
PERSONALITY
He seems to be a bit of an introvert at the beginning of Aria of sorrow, but at the start of Dawn of sorrow, as he's met more friends, he's more open. He's also very determined when it comes to helping his friends and suppressing the darkness inside him.
Soma also appeared as a playable character in the downloadable crossover game Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.
