I am already regretful, so if my life was shortened by 2 years, I do not think that it would change too much.

However, if I could live forever, I would probably attempt to dawdle in some business, maybe try to work my way up in a company. But, I do think that eventually, I would get very very bored.

I wouldn't live forever on the Earth because it wouldn't take long before it became too much sorrow. When people lose those they love, it tends to be much harder to go and talk to new people. My grandma is 80 and she's lost most of her friends and family already, and she's been living alone for over a decade. I'm really glad she believes in God or she might be really depressed.

My mom and the rest of my immediate family are who she's able to talk to often, but we're busy so we aren't able to talk to her for very long. If I lived forever and I felt lonely often, I'd start to get desperate. I'm a Christian and I believe that I will live forever, after dying on Earth I can go to heaven if I lived a life that glorifies God. I'd love that kind of eternal life, being able to be there with God and deceased family members including pets. However, I wouldn't want to live on Earth eternally.

Another thing is that people want to communicate with others their age, and assuming you're the only person that lives forever, after being 100 years old there won't really be anybody else close to your age. Even if you had other people living forever with you, it'd still be difficult because they might not support you forever and with old age comes many difficulties. I've seen it in many family members.

The final thing I'll add is that Christians like me would get anxious to go to heaven to be reunited with all those I've lost. I already cried after not being able to speak to a close friend for 3 months and getting very anxious for us to talk again. Thankfully, we do now, still not often but I'm not complaining anymore.

Life on Earth was meant to be temporary, especially since things on Earth leave us unsatisfied.

I would not live forever. It sounds so boring. What will I do after 150 years. Just sit at home and being a grumpy old man and getting annoyed on the noisy young people and stuff like that.

If I just live to over 60 I'm happy enough and would think I have done my part on this earth

Most of me says yes purely because I don't want to die. Once people bring up that you will outlive everyone you love, yeah that's when I will probably not want to live forever.

I'm someone that believes that everyone has a purpose, so that makes the question a little confusing for me. Even though I believe that there is indeed and afterlife, if I were to assume that there isn't and that I would better serve my purpose by living indefinitely, then I would. If I live forever, that means I have better chances at being successful, rich and influencing things. If I lived long enough, I'd probably try to take over the world so I can do with it what I believe to be right. So yeah, if I knew there was no afterlife, I would live forever. It would seem like a waste not to.

I would love to, but at the same time it would suck to see those that I care about die around me, unless they are living forever, then that would be awesome. I always use to wish as a kid that the time I became an adult they would be able to do something that allows you to live forever. There are still plenty of things I want to do, places to go, and so on. Also throw in that "unlimited money" idea too

Definitely a tough one.

If I was the only one who'd live forever, then no, because I'd rather not see my loved ones die.

If I continued to age at a normal rate, I too would say no, because I feel like eventually, I'd be too old to do anything anymore.

But if say, everyone lived forever (ignoring any and all potential overpopulation problems that could occur as a result) and if we hit a prime age where we stayed (like right now I'm 22) and didn't lose any of our physical and mental capabilities, I would consider the possibility.  That is of course, assuming too that there will always be new things to do and experience.

I'd rather not live forever the to the fact I really don't want to not die. Dying is just how it is, and I don't want to cheat it. As for 2 years I would be sad, but I would make people happy until then.

Honestly, I wouldn't fancy living forever at all.

For me, life is about having fun and enjoying everyone and everything around you, as well as overcoming what comes in your way. There's the thrill of trying to do everything you want to accomplish and achieve within the time you have on this Earth.

However, these kind of things are only able to happen when you're physically able to do them. When you fully understand what you're doing and that you can feel the rush and thrill of such tasks. Also, the people around you have to be able as well, or else you'd easily feel lonely and not having the most out of life.

If you're going to live forever, you'll end up having no friends left, first and foremost. You'd be destined to watching everyone you know and love die, and go insane from how you wish to join them, whether you believe in the afterlife or not. Second of all, there comes a point where your body isn't what it used to be. After this point, you can't have fun and do what you want, and you can't enjoy your time with people because they'll all be dying since you're forced to outlive them.

Well, for me, it varies. While I would like to live a long life, and be able to do things I want to do... Well, if my body gets too weak then... I would possibly want to not live much longer.

But, if I could become like an Alter Ego, like those of you who know Danganronpa would know of, then sure thing.

Living forever would be cool just to see how the world evolves, but at the same time, it would get old due to how repetitive things would get.

This is actually a really interesting question that isn't as easily answered as it might seem to some.

At first glance we see a way to escape death and we think it's a great opportunity. After all, who wants to die, except for people who are depressed obviously, but even that is a temporary state usually. A life without death is such an incredible idea that we've had people devote their lives to finding a means to attain it, Ponce De Leon springs to mind (no pun intended), and probably many others.

Other, more logical people, spend their lives eating and living as healthily as they can because they hope to stave off death for as long as is humanly possible. While yet more sing and preach about eternal life every Sunday. And indeed, the Bible speaks quite a bit about eternal life, even though that's referring to the next life rather than this one, it's a beloved topic because we all want to live.

Then there's the other side of things though. I remember a book called Tuck Everlasting. I never read it, but my sister absolutely loved it and recounted the entire story to me in a condensed form. It's about a family that finds a spring in the woods. They drink from this spring and the water makes them immortal. They never age, and even when they try to kill themselves, they cannot die.

Now again, at first glance immortality sounds like a pretty sweet deal, but soon they find themselves forced to abstain from relationships with others and (to my understanding) move around frequently because people will notice that they fail to age. Additionally the point is raised that if you're immortal, you have to see anyone that you do get close to die, and this happens with every friend you ever make outside of your family.

My point here is that, if I were immortal I would absolutely love it for a while, but eventually, if the world were around another hundred or two hundred years, I would begin to tire of it because of the heartache of watching everyone I ever cared about in any capacity die off, one by one. And then there are old people that say they're just tired. I can't help but think that I would feel that way too after a while. Tired. Tired of everything that happens in life. It's a nice experience, but after a couple hundred years it would have to begin taking it's toll on you.

And then on the flip side, you asked also about having two years to live. Yes, I would be very broken hearted to hear this about myself, even though I believe with all my heart that I have an eternity with Jesus to look forward to. Why? I don't want to die. I enjoy life, and death is incredibly frightening. I think most anyone would be floored by this news, and I've see a few people get this kind of report before, so I speak with some experience anyway.

If I had to choose between the two, I'm almost sure I'd go with living forever, but in reality both are pretty grim prospects.

I agree with all posters on this aspect.

Life is a very precious thing and can be taken away in an instant. It's like a whiteboard.

Though I'm an Athiest myself, I like to divulge in some other religions and see what they have to say about it.

Immortality is contradicting what we call life itself, a limited time. Immortality could be equal to stopping time itself. Unlimited time.

As Firinn said, it would amazing for a period of time. Getting to see other sites and sounds that you would never else experience in your lifetime. But after a certain amount of years, it would just get boring.

Imagine if suddenly everyone was immortal, what would that do to humanity itself? Over-population would probably the biggest cause of death, but since every is immortal, they can't die, right?

I'd choose to die in 2 years.

Because in a few billion years you'll be floating in space for God knows how long. You would do nothing, just drifting, for maybe thrillions of years. Until the Big Bang theory or whatever happens again, you'll have to hope to land on a good planet. Which would still take a while. I'd rather die at the age of 18 than having to float in space for billions of thrillions of years when the time comes. Nothing lasts eternally; not us, not our universe. Everything will vanish and reappear, and it would be lonely to never, ever vanish. It would be like another version of hell, but instead it's the reality.

DBZ Fanfic, Break to the Limit:

'"Hey, uh, I don't want to sound rude, but you're not gonna try and intercept the wish, are you?" Krillin asked.

"What?" Raditz realised what he was talking about. "Oh, you mean to wish for immortality like Vegeta wants to?" He shook his head. "I thought about it for a while. Nothing lasts forever. If you were immortal, eventually everyone else would die." He frowned. "You'd be alone, in an empty universe, forever. Count me out of that one. Besides," he gave a little smile at the thought, "I have no particular desire to fight Kakarot over it. He's grown in skill and power far faster than I'd have imagined."'

Raditz is the only one with logic in Dragon Ball Z (fanfics) when it comes to immortality.

I would live forever, but only if I didn't look like dog poop after being alive for 100 years. I'd want to maintain at the oldest a 50 year physique, and I think I'd enjoy seeing new advances in civilization, and some groundbreaking discoveries would most likely take place.

Without a doubt I would prefer immortality.

I'd be just as happy for the singularity though, doing whatever you want online after you die has got to be a great thing.

The whole point of life is to experience its wonders, and to put that, saying that you'll live forever is completely contradicting the fact why we live here on this Earth in the first place.

Think about it. Our development on this Earth combines over a period of time, by losing this ability to develop you are essentially stuck in time, with no way out. Sounds unfair, doesn't it? We as humans evolve solemnly, yet greatly throughout our lives.

Living forever also posing issues medically, and practically mentally. Imagine living forever with a serious, incurable, medical condition that causes you to have hallucinations. Would you live forever with this, or would you rather just die? Spending an eternity having these horrific hallucinations? Seems legit.

Obviously after discussing these points, living forever isn't what it's all cracked up to be.

Definitely not. I would welcome the opportunity to live a prolonged lifespan of perhaps 150-200 years or so, but not forever. The fact that we are mortal has an enormous impact on the way we live now. The fact we have a limited amount of time on Earth gives our lives meaning and spurs us to make the most of our time and experience as much of this world as we can, while we can. To be alive is to make mistakes, struggle, laugh, and savor life and all it has to offer. To live forever goes against the definition of "living" entirely, being alive for eternity is more akin to existing than living. Existing is mechanical, to exist is to have objective reality and being.

I don't want a life where I've already experienced all the world has to offer and have nothing driving me to live differently. Death is the greatest motivator, but only when we are alive. A prolonged life would be nice. To live forever? No thank you.

I believe in an afterlife so that being said here are my thoughts on living eternal in THIS life:

Honey, I do not even want to live my whole natural life on this planet. I feel like its the same cycle over and over. Generation 1 do something dumb, something bad happens, they learn their lesson, fix the dumb thing they did and then try to teach their children who do not listen to a thing they say, then they pass on. Generation 2 repeat same pattern, Generation 3 etc.etc.etc. Humanity tends to learn from our mistakes, forget them and then remake them.

Plus I have always dreamed of going out in some heroic blaze of glory. I would currently like to go fighting off slave traders so that I may give my life protecting the innocent.
