Hi everyone and welcome to my review of Street Fighter 2 the original dub (not super, nor turbo,)for the arcade. This game was legendary for the time of its release but eventually the later versions eventually changed the formula. To the characters and how they are played and balance of all the fighters, Then later added combos and new ways to pull off each super attack like doing the hurricane kick in midair, To Granting new moves to pre existing characters like chun li with her fireball etc, The game has many ports on which i won't exactly do since it would be pretty much the same thing
History: The game was intended to be a beat them up like how games like final fight and streets of rage was.(It's ironic that final fight came from the idea of street fighter 89 before that turned into final fight) The game was in development after final fight was released in arcades back in the day. with nearly 50 folk worked on the game from the balance. There were many designs of some the characters but some of them scrapped characters did kinda made it into later games. The game was met with universal praise and did pretty well with many media dubs and made fighting games extremely popular with the many things they did add. Characters that can be played as, Female fighters, unique stages/theme songs (correct if i am wrong about that or the entire thing)
Gameplay: what do you expect in a fighting game just simply beat down the opponent till they are knocked out or let the time run out with the victor who has the most health wins the round or the game if the 2nd or final round has ended. The game has 8 original characters in this version of the game on which hail form different parts of the world with of course some of the 7 of the fighters hail from the same country (And yes i am counting Bison AKA Balrog plus the other 2 bosses) with each of the fighters having their own play styles like Guile for example if pretty much on the offence, Chun li with her agility and with those legs of hers could make mince meat out of anyone who comes her way, Dhalsim with his incredibly reach and low attack power. The game won't end after beating the other 7 warriors with the player must fight the shadaloo bosses (Main villains of the street fighter franchise apart from the street fighter 3 series)
This time i am going to cut out the story due to the time of the games release fighting games and story where rather part of the characters endings (besides from official cannon tie in media that could serve as a back story or with later games explaining the story with many changes in later games. Plus the debates on the characters endings being cannon as well) so forgive me on that
Music: The games music was composed by Yoko Shimomura who did make the music of every character and theme song with help from Isao Abe. The songs did get remixed or
updated in later installments as well as when the game upgraded from the Capcom's Cps's (Arcade system made by capcom) and later installments as well. the sound effects are pretty good i like how the some of the characters say their moves well of course some kinda gets misheard (trust me i happend when i pulled of the hurricane kicks as ken masters)
Graphics: the game looks amazing and still is unlike most modern games (forgive me for that since some modern games do kinda come out ugly these days) It still holds up to this day. With impressive animation with the background of each stage. As well the characters on how they move and attack (With some ports only losing a few animations due to system limits) still its pretty good with later dubs would improve on that especially with characters that debuts in the super versions.
The depths of the game only go as far as you know the characters strengths and weaknesses. And how well you know your opponent. That also serves as the difficulty point no matter if you're playing with someone or a computer controlled AI. Of course not to mention of hard the bosses are which can be brutal if your not careful (*cough couch* Sagat *cough cough*) The game itself is great fun with friends and family if they are keen on fighters
I hope you guys n gals enjoy this this review. Feel free to point out any mistakes if there's any till the next review
HAPPY GAMING
