We are always told to try our best in any given situation. However, some might like perfection a bit too much, to the point of obsession. I am no different. Those who love perfection strive to be perfect in just about everything they might actually do; academics, sports, competitions, etc. We push ourselves quite high to live up to our own standards, hoping to be the best by outperforming everyone, only to crack when we fail. It's a sad predicament. I am but a person who strives for absolute perfection; I try my hardest, and work incredibly hard.... only to be completely overshadowed and outclassed by someone else. I get depressed due to my low self-esteem, and I believe I am imperfect and doomed to fail, which I believe, will lead to my mother not caring for me in the slightest. If I can't be the best, it's not worth trying.

Perfection, to me, is ideal to aim at but it's often unnecessary. I like to use sports analogies so I like to think of my projects, goals, and competitions as sports. If I have a project that has to succeed, it doesn't have to be perfect. I can grind out the work, get something off the ground and make it fly but it doesn't have to soar like an eagle. As long as I can look at the effort and say I tried hard enough.

Wins and victories, both personally and professionally, don't have to be flawless. They don't have to look good. I love style points but I'll take wins. Wins, however imperfect, are fine.

Striving for perfection is a good ideal but it often ends in disappointment. I don't strive for perfection. I just work on "Let's do this better than last time."

I think the best thing is just be yourself. But there is also nothing wrong is striving for some perfection. It could be towards something you want to reach. Or like for instance. A certain type of baking technique you don't get it right the first time. And really want to perfect it. You keep going until you have mastered it. I do sometimes for certain things. And to reach certain goals. I at times like to test my skills further to see what I can do and when I do it. Its not always a bad thing to do this all the time either. People are different with how they approach to strive for any goals and any types of perfection they look into.

I sorta beat myself up over not being perfect... but then I don't end up trying super hard to be perfect either. I think I used to, but then I realized that it was often a pointless effort, so I stopped trying so hard.

I do strive to be perfect in some areas in life, but if I do incredibly well, I'll be happy. I'm not one to cry about a 98% on a test :p. I don't care about how I look as long as I'm presentable either (but sometimes I do enjoy looking good).

The one exception to that is video games... well, I don't do perfect no hit 100% accuracy runs in games, but I need to get 100% (every collectible, achievement, whatever) or the game will constantly bug me and it won't let me forget about it until I do. That even extends to the game pages of those games (reviews, guides, screenshots) because I want it to look complete and not half finished. And Steam cards... that's one thing I'm trying my best to forget about. I don't have the money.

Eh. It depends. It could be nice but it's not really essential to life. Nobody's perfect, neither are any of us. I don't really strive to be perfect, I do strive to fit in at school, though. 

It depends on how interested I am in whatever I'm doing or if it really needs to be perfect.

For example, I have never cared about my grades as long as I passed. It's not actually needed to get a higher mark if, in the end, you get to pass. I've obtained some perfect scores, and while they felt amazing, it made small difference over getting a lower score.

When being perfect does make a difference, like the quality of my reviews or guides, then I do try my best. Going back in time to the guides and reviews I did two years ago and comparing them to now, it's clear that aiming for perfection has positively affected their quality, so I still aim to polish every small detail I might find in my way.

It really depends on what I'm doing, but for the most part yes. I was raised with the idea of "anything worth doing, is worth doing right." I've always taken pride in my work ethic, though it's not uncommon for my need for perfection to actually slow me down and make me less efficient than I should be. Either way, I'd much rather be a little too anal about stuff over not caring enough

I barely strive for mediocrity. Like if I cared more then sure but I really just don't care that much.

I am not perfect, and I'll never be. I cannot always be a 'straight ruler'. The question is, do I aim for perfection on everything? Well, uh, I do my best on everything. Mistakes are expected, and no one should feel guilty of committing one, since we all make mistakes. Mistakes are evidence that you are TRYING. We all learn from our mistakes. I believe, the more mistakes you do the smarter you'll become, since you're experiencing more. However, committing the same mistake twice is no longer a mistake, but rather a choice.
 
So, um yeah, usually I'm not much of a perfectionist.

Ultrajeff : Well, yes and no. Especially in the past I didn't accept anything that wasn't failure so if I didn't get a 10/10 at school I'd be disappointed. Now, though I've come to accept it more, but I think that I'm still more of a perfectionist than most people.

Not at all times..but sometimes am a perfectionist.

I don't really strive for perfection, but there were times that I did. I'm very competitive, especially when I have a quiz, and I always strive for the highest score.

In this website however, I'm a part of the unknowns, and I will try to earn the most Viz that I can and to gain the respect of my peers

Whenever I'm trying to create something such as a drawing, or some form of project involving gaming I attempt to be pretty perfect.
I have spent over 30 hours in Flip Note 3D and most of that time was spent on only a few Animations, but it really just depends on what I'm doing I guess.

I used to strive for perfection. And sometimes I still do, but I've come to terms that what I do won't always be perfect, and I just do the best that I can. I do my best, but if I score a 98 or a 96% I won't be complaining. Heck, even a 86% is probably my minimum for how pleased I'd be. lol But, I try do do everything I can do to the best of my ability.

"Absolute" perfection seems a little strong. However, when I do something I do give it all that I have. I sometimes end up a little frustrated (like when I can not do the number of reps I wanted to do in muscle training), but at least I know I could not have done better.

It depends on what it is that I'm doing. If it's homework I really don't care how crappy it turns out in the end, but if it's something as simple as image editing or making a layout for Vizzed I tend to be a perfectionist, often spending hours editing over and over.

There used to be a time when I would strive for what you might call “absolute perfection” but then I took an arrow to the knee I realized that the world all around us is already so perfect and yet at the same time so balanced with “imperfections” that everything is already perfect as is. You, just the way you are right now, are already made up of the most beautiful and perfect combinations of cells possible, whether you perceive them to be perfect or not. Striving to be better is always nice and it doesn't hurt to achieve your loftier goals, but trying to change yourself to become "perfect" really isn't all that necessary when everything is already perfect.

Not absolute, but I do strive to be the best that I can be. I am not at all a perfectionist, but I like things to be moderately well done and stuff like that. It's just much better when I do things right then when I just obviously do them wrong. 

In a lot of areas, I'm a perfectionist. I want all my schoolwork to be perfect, since I want to get high grades. If a game doesn't require me to kill every enemy in that stage, I do it anyways since I feel weird if I don't kill them all . I want to be the best I can be in all areas, and I shoot for perfection in a lot of areas, so if it's not perfect, it's still usually pretty good. "Shoot for the stars, and maybe you'll hit the moon".
