I have two questions. What are your home countries like? Have you ever been to other European countries? Thanks for sharing, friends.

Ultrajeff : Scorchingly hot, extremely varied and with laziness strikedthrough in the capital punishments list. That's the best definition I can give without entering into details.

I've been twice to the UK, once to London and another to Manchester/Sheffield; four times to Germany, twice to Berlin, once to Cologne and once to Frankfurt; once to Geneva, in Switzerland; once to Lisbon, in Portugal; and several sporadic visits to France, just to the close cities and villages that belonged to Spain in the past; as well as several one-day visits to Andorra to get advantage of the lesser taxes. It's quite a big list, but I fully plan to expand it even more.

How do you guys not have crunchyroll?!

Alright, but really. You guys seem really patriotic. I really love that about you guys! But if you had to live in another country, where would you live?

Is it true that nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition?

What is something about your countries that you wish the rest of the world would follow along with?

A user of this : Lol I've always considered myself the opposite of patriotic, I just like living here because I'm used to it If I had to live somewhere else, excluding other scandinavian countries it would probably be Great Britain or The Netherlands. I would say the US but I think it's too different politically from us to where I'd enjoy it. in particular with the oh so amazing Donald Trump probably becoming president. If the Republican or Libertarian party tried to run here they'd be considered right wing extremists and probably be ignored by most.

Yes

As for the last question -withdrawn because too controversial- I mean uh if I keep with the theme of countries I think our self distance, people really aren't afraid to criticize their own country. Which is good because blind patriotism is kind of stupid.

Am I allowed to ask questions if I am european?

This is specifically towards zlinqx,

is swedish extremely similar to english, and is that the reason that such a high percentage of the country speaks english? (That's pretty much the case for holland.)

imamonster : It's a germanic language so it's similar to some extent. I think it's likely more similar to German though. People being so good at it here is probably less because of that and more us just using it more. We for example more rarely dub English tv shows. When I was younger they didn't even dub cartoons so it really helps with speeding up the learning process.

Compare that to some other European countries I think mainly countries like Spain, Italy or France where they seem to dub over everything (though correct if I'm wrong). The reason we don't do it probably has more to do with us being a small country population wise so it would be kind of difficult.

A user of this : Because we don't live the American dream.

I'm absolutely not patriotic. My country's laws and society are the worst for what you can consider "First World". I could be more patriotic if Catalonia was independent, at least we're a referent in foreign countries and that's something to be proud about.

I'd leave in Germany. Society, culture and everything there is magnificent compared to Spain. I wouldn't pick a country I haven't traveled to, so I cannot pick the US, though it would be an interesting field to discover.

I will omit the Inquisition question for obvious reasons. Joke or not, nobody around here wants to dig deep into history, very little good comes out of it.

Your last question is kind of hard... Probably checking out laziness from the capital punishments list, like I've said before. If incomplete projects count, probably the new bus net being periodically implanted in Barcelona: each bus travels through only one street, either from side to side or up to down and vice versa, thus making it easier to remember which bus passes through which zones.

Zlinqx : No need to correct you, we dub ABSOLUTELY everything. The new channels, being more specialized, are starting to break this trend, but it remains in the all-time channels. Probably because the overall English level is 0.21 on a scale from 0 to 10

Heyo! Fellow European here. I've lived in Germany and currently live in Great Britain, and I've been to most of the countries in western Europe. I have two questions:

Do you follow football? If so, favorite team?
What's your LEAST favorite thing about your countries?

Oats : I don't follow football that closely. I do follow the matches of FC Barcelona for being my city's team, but other than that I watch nearly nothing.

The least favorite thing... Hell, if there was just a single one. The massive corruption of the political class is the worst by far, because it affects absolutely everything, from the image we give to foreign countries to our methods of obtaining energy (they punish everyone who attempts to self-produce electricity or heat via solar energy).

And talking about politics, I may as well ask a question to my partners.

Zlinqx :
Furret :

When was the last time there were elections in your country? We're right now heading to the second round in less than two weeks, after having no winner in December (no politic party has managed to parlay with another one during this time).

Our last election was 2014 which interestingly enough was the first ever election I think where the government parties didn't have a ruling majority. Which caused a lot of problems in the time that followed because they couldn't get through basic stuff like their budget proposition. It lead to an agreement being made to allow them to use theirs but it took several months where they were basically incapable of doing anything.

Unfortunately the voting situation in Sweden right now is choosing between the lesser of three evils. We have the ruling parties the socialist and environmentalist parties (normally the side I'd be in favor of) which barely anyone even those who voted for the party likes the party leadership anymore. They seem completely incapable of ruling a country. Then we have the anti immigrant parties that's been gaining a lot and blames most problems on immigration. Then there's the main opposing parties the liberals/conservatives which want to basically want to slowly get rid of our welfare system that the country is built on. Leaving most people suffer due to the worsening healthcare and school system like they did last term. None is a particularly appealing option.

Our next election will be in 2018 which is going to be first election I'm legally allowed to vote. With the current options I'm so looking forward to it *sarcasm*

Pokemonfan1000 : Life in Europe could be a lot better, honestly. Some countries are better than others, but overall I'd say it's fairly bad.

I haven't been to the US, so I cannot talk by experience, but it does seem like things are different at the other side of the Atlantic. You have a lot of things we don't have in here, and I think there are also a few things we have here that you don't have. Not sure how much of a difference do they make, though, but I doubt we have similarities in several fields.

Pokemonfan1000 :

It's impossible to make a general comparison since the countries in Europe differ a lot just between each other in everything from the political system and economy to cultural values and religion. I can't speak for certain since I haven't been to the US (so my impressions are based mostly on talking to people through the internet) but I'd say some are likely pretty similar while other countries would seem very different.

ZeroTails : Without a doubt, a Spanish series that debuted not long ago. It was deemed as one of the best series of all time even overseas, so much so that Timeless was heavily inspired by it (and there's even word it could be a plagiarized US version of our series).

The series was called "El Ministerio del Tiempo" (The Ministry of Time) and it involves many episodes of our country's history thanks to a special method of time travelling, so it provides very good culture beyond being an enjoyable and well made series.

thing1 : According to my sources, it should be $295. Looks like the dollar is losing the battle against the main European currencies.

I’m going to bump this thread, and this forum, back from oblivion back fo the home page.

How many of you guys drive right wheel drive cars, and how many drive left wheel drive cars?

What car manufacturers are the best in Europe? I’ve heard a lot of good things about Peugeot
