Which of these military movies did you like better, Top Gun or Officer and a Gentleman?

I've seen both of these movies and personally, as much as I like Top Gun, I liked Officer and a Gentleman better. It has much more charm than Top Gun does. Top Gun felt like guns ablaze, while Officer and a Gentleman felt like it had heart and felt more down to earth than Top Gun did. So, which military movie did you like better, Top Gun or Officer and a Gentleman and why?

This seems so lop-sided to me.... I would pick Top Gun any day of the week. I really enjoyed Top Gun though. There was something about it that has always interested me and it is probably the "guns ablaze" feel to it. I prefer action military movies to dramatic military movies. Both can be good but I'd rather see military in action than military talking and politics.

I haven't seen either of those but know Top Gun is the obvious choice, it's something I have actually been trying to get my hands on for almost a year now and it happens to star my favorite actor.

How could someone not have seen Top Gun? <<

Anyway... my choice is Top Gun.
I am with geeo on this one. I prefer military movies to tell a story with action.

An Officer and a Gentleman felt kinda slow paced to me and had a really ham-fisted love story crammed in... but I suppose that's what Richard Gere is known for...

Top Gun all day baby. Back when Cruise was in his prime (my opinion), and Val Kilmer as "Iceman". That movie is such a classic for good reason, and I'm sure most people will agree it was the better of the two. I remember watching it as a kid the first time and wanting nothing more in the world than being able to fly one of those jets around to blow some stuff up

Top Gun. Danger Zone time. Back when Cruise was not bat $hit crazy and actually cared about his acting. I heard they want to do a re-boot of this, only pit the actual pilots against drones.

Top Gun, for sure.

That's probably my all-time favorite military movie.

LordGaldan :  I'm going to throw a flag on the question.  An Officer and a Gentlemen isn't a military movie.  It happened to have a guy who's in the military play a role but like you said, "Top Gun was all guns ablazing..."  That's what military movies are:  People shooting at each other.  That's kinda the whole point.

But, hey, if you enjoyed An Officer and a Gentleman, good for you.  I prefer Top Gun because it has so many cheesy good quotes from the 1980s, it discusses relationships between the United States and the Soviet Union.  It's over the top with terrible/good acting and Val Kilmer bites at Tom Cruise, *chomp.*

And also, the volleyball scene is the most homo-erotic without coming out and saying anything I've ever seen.
