A simple and easy to answer question. What was the first video game console you owned? Or handheld depending on the circumstances. I owned a DS Lite before anything else, but I soon got a Wii after that for Christmas 2007. I know, I'm such a 2000's kid.

The first sega genesis was my first console, and my first game was sonic the hedgehog

By the first sega genesis I mean it was the first model, not like the tiny model 2 or the weird shaped model 3

I still have it, but the RF port on it is broken so I have to use A/V cables. A/V gets better quality anyways..

Eniitan :

The Sega Genesis (You Europeans call it the Mega Drive :p) came out before the Super Nintendo, I think. Although it could be different for you since you live in Europe.

zanderlex : Where did you find an NES in 2001?

I had an Atari 7800 back in the mid to late 1980s, followed by NES, immediately followed by SNES, which is the greatest platform of all time, if you account for the era of video games in the day.

Now I get by with a PS2 I got in 2001 or sometime around then.

Ghostbear1111 :

You're lucky, my PS2's battery already died out, making it useless. It only lasted 10 years, which sucks.

Also, there are many vintage game stores around where I live that sells NES consoles. And since he lives in New York City, I believe he has some of the same stores around too, cause NYC has everything. XD

LunarDarkness2 : Yeah...it was probably the brick one since the slim one lasts for longer in years. Not unless you keep the brick one really well that it would last for more than 10 years. :/

My first gaming console was the original Game Boy I got for my birthday when I turned 9 years old. The first game I played on it was Tetris, and then several days later I got Super Mario Land.

It would be hard to say. I know the very first I had were the Dreamcast, courtesy of my cousin, and the original Game Boy, but which one came first is hard to know. It could be the Game Boy, I remember a childhood friend of mine playing it a lot, or it could be the Dreamcast, after spending many hours playing on my other cousin's N64 my parents could set up a deal with my cousin so as to inherit his Dreamcast. I doubt my parents or my cousin remember either, so this will probably be a mystery forever more.

I'm now struggling to maintain my Wii, it's a bit old and has showed signs of failing every now and then. I hope it helps a bit that I have never used it intensively to prolong it's life.

EX Palen :

Yeah I get what you mean about the Wii part. About a month ago, my Sonic Colors disc got stuck in the console. I pressed eject and nothing happened. I knew it was in there because I tried putting in Super Mario Galaxy and could hear the discs hitting each other. Scared me, but my step-dad eventually got it out. XD

The very first console we had in our house was a Coleco Vision, with the swirly-wired controllers that looked like a telephone dial. However we hardly played it, and my agility was not that great. The first "real" console we owned was a Sega Genesis, right at the peak of the 16-bit era (1993).

LunarDarkness2 : What do you mean by "battery"? If you mean the little button battery on the main board, I could most likely replace it with one from the Dollar Store. Did it with our copy of Pokémon Silver Version when the internal battery died and it wouldn't save.

Me and yosh shared our first console. My dad remembered that he had been given a Genesis several years prior and had left it in the trunk of the car. I guess that was some time back in 2002.

yoshirulez! : I don't know anything about the RF port being broken... I just got the A/Vs because the converters keep shorting out.
