After 6 years, the Project M Dev Team has finally stopped working on the game. 3.6 is the final release. HOWEVER, many new characters were in development. These were scrapped when they stopped, but dev builds have been leaked.

More info here: http://projectmgame.com/
Dev build with Lyn, Knuckles, Isaac, and possibly Sami download (may be down from activity): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxZMNpERcBNqaElVMDRDS2VNODA/

How does this make you feel? Why do you think they did this so suddenly with so many new things ready to be released?

TheFadedWarrior : Words cannot explain how much I wanted to play as Lyn and Knuckles. ;~;

I am sad that they just suddenly stopped. I almost think that they got a C&D from Nintendo seeing as how everything is now gone. And for some reason there is the email address of their lawyer. But nobody has said anything about it yet. So it's not really fair to jump down Nintendo's throat just yet. But for somereason they have completely shut it down. So this was NOT nothing. I was seriously excited when just a few weeks ago they showed new Roy and ZSS alts. But anyway, they said they were moving on to bigger and better things. That makes me kind of excited for future hyjinx by the PMDT.

I am guessing either Project M Wii U Edition, or Project M Mario Kart. Melee's tech and movement options, all items and karts from the past, and returning veterans.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

A user of this : I have a feeling this time wasn't a cease and desist from Nintendo. They have been aware of the project since trying to bring some sponsorship into competitive gaming for Smash. Or, at least, there's almost no way they wouldn't have known of its existence. There's just too much presence in the competitive environment for it to be that known. Moreover, the project required a purchase of Super Smash Bros Brawl; any alternative was illegal and not intended by the developers. It doesn't make any sense on any level as to why they would declare a cease and desist now.

At the same time, though, it is true that the site has been completely cleaned out with the exception of the message of cancellation. What isn't being said here?

In response to this, while I am rather disappointed with the cancellation of Project M, I at the same time look forward to this alleged new project of theirs. Moreover, I'm sure many people are still going to enjoy the game, and I'm certain that many of the competitive players will be at least a little satisfied with a chance at a grounded metagame for once. While the updates do give just enough time to create a decent metagame, each one of them drastically changed characters and made the metagame flip on its head.

SWTerra : About the C&D... The two heads of Project M, Strong Bad and Warchamp, have repeatedly stated that it wasn't a Cease and Desist or lawsuit, but they stopped working on Project M in fear of that happening (proactively). But if you think about it, this could mean that Nintendo THREATENED a lawsuit or C&D, but never filed one.

TheFadedWarrior : My biggest rebuttal to this is looking through recent history. Nintendo has never been shy to throw down the banhammer.

And even then, throwing the banhammer on something like Brawl hacking is both late and kind of silly. It's not going to stop, and it's Nintendo's fault for allowing it to get to such lengths. Not to mention, isn't this more Sora Ltd. and HAL Laboratory's territory on whether or not to sue than Nintendo's? I realize they're ultimately a part of Nintendo, but it's been the biggest reason as to why the likes of Super Smash Flash 2 haven't gotten a cease and desist.
