The future of gaming is edging towards touch screen or body movement recognition. Altough a touch screen gamepad would have its advantages such as customisable buttons I am not really keen on the idea. For starters until OLED technology advances the pad would be completely flat which wouldnt be comfortable, secondly I think it would break/get scratched very easily.
What do you think?

I have a DS and despise games that require you to use the touch screen. Like that Star Fox game, I was really disappointed with that....

I think that a touchscreen video game world is what we're moving to. All game companies do new thing all the time to impress buyers so they'll buy more. The Touchscreen will probably just be a new improvement for a system, and I bet the first company to perfect the Touchscreen will be nintendo.

well, touchscreen blows, i really think they are just pointless and stupid. As for motion technology, Sony has already perfected the motion controller (they sort of copied nintendo, but it isn't crappy and shaky and inaccurate like the Wii's), and that will soon be on the shelves. I'm really looking forward to that.

Finally, a motion controller on a system that I can stand to play. I really hate the Wii, or any nintendo above the N64/GBA for that matter ^^

This should be in video games
someone will move it.

but I really think that they will advance more in this.. especially with the ultra success of the wii/DS.. It only makes sense..

Im looking for Apple to get into the gaming world.. Because I think they have the best touchscreen technology.. The iphones touchscreen is 10X better then any other phone touchscreen out there.

I think touch screen games will suck alot.....

Think about first person shooting games ex:HALO
Will i be able to dbl-tap the screen to shoot an opponent?
Wont that increase Accuracy?
I have alot of reserves as far as this idea goes... they had better not release something "Cool Looking" and it not work... or the FPS is so slow it is literally impossible to run the way we would all like to imagine it.

I reckon that one fascination with FPS games is that there is a certain amount of skill involved where a bit of time and thought is required to target, a simple double tap of a screen would indeed increase accuracy, however I feel the effort needed to do so would be lower.

Moving away from games...
I think touchscreen systems will start to dominate this decade in general. I just feel its such a flimsy and fragile method that will almost certainly go wrong. For example ticket kiosks will soon be replaced by touch screen vending machines, but it takes only one drunken and/or heavy handed commuter to bring down the system. Whereas a more robust, although now archaic button pushing method would maybe stand a chance.

P.S I initially started this thread to talk about touchscreen technology in general and gave the gaming world as an example – sorry for making it sound like a game-only thread.

I think all touch screens have to much of a lag and they would get worn out way to fast from constant use.

touchscreen gaming would be a horrible idea. Like you said, the pads get damaged and wear our far too easily for it to be a viable option. Motion capture... I dunno, I can see it getting annoying if it is in every type of game. Though at least it is closer to VR than touchscreen.

Touch-screen PC's will be awesome.... gaming will suck on it tho cuz like i said FPS will go down

On the other end.... Table sized touch screen PC's have already been invented by HP and are really cool if you ever get to play with one. Blue-tooth to any electronic device with blue-tooth to extract pictures, music, and movies. You can even slide the pictures etc. with your hands to your other device (say from a cell phone to a digital camera) that is on the table as well. Idk about you guys but from time to time my hand gets tired of resting on a mouse after ive been on the computer a little while, and i feel that the table PC's would alleviate this greatly.

They actually have laser keyboards out there which is sort of like touch screen technology....sort of.

I really hate the idea of having to use a touch screen or use motion controlls. I like not having to move all around like an idiot when I'm trying to seriously play a game. I like my hardware non-moving controllers and will always prefer them over touch or motion capture. The touch screen has some cool features to it but nothing I can't game without.

Just remember, touch screen and especially motion sensing is fairly new to popular vedio games; after a generation or two it will be perfected.

I wouldn't worry about touch screens getting damaged, the early mini-joystick on the 64 wore out in no time, but after a while we developed better and better joysticks, and they are now the norm.

Rest assured, weather you like it or not, motion sensing is going to get more popular.

It's cool that the motion sensitive and touch screen technologies can be made more economical, but it will never completely replace button pushing. While for some actions it is a good idea, with others, it simply gets in the way. "Wario Ware" is the perfect example of how the touch screen and motion sensitivity should be used. "Sonic and the Secret Rings" is the perfect example of how it can be a horrible idea.

Well, there are quite a few games that I'd like to try with a touch screen, but the majority of them I'm satisfied with. So, it can be a good thing, but needless to say, it probably isn't one of the most revolutionally shocking idea.

We just have to see if it gets perfected in games. For example: A DS using an iPhone touchscreen. However, they must not push this too far. Apple can help a lot with gaming corps getting it right but that would be it. Done. However, I think that Nintendoâ„¢ are not going to let this go, I think they are going to keep the DS alive as much as they can. But now some games dont even use the touch screen putting it to waste. Other games require you to either rub really fast or tap really fast. They should have expected this and made the touch screen tougher in one way or another. The DS touchscreens are weak as hell. My one broke in the first week of playing Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
