I do not eat salads,I am not a veggie person. The closest I come to salads is when I make a sandwich or go to Subway. But when I do go there,I always get lettuce, tomato, spinach, green peppers and pickles on the sub.

Yes, I do think people should eat salads because I sort of believe in “all things in moderation.” XD For me, if I eat a lot of steak or meat, then I’ll naturally go to find some leafy vegetables or fruit to balance it all out. However, I do understand that some people can’t digest or eat raw vegetables (I’m not one of them though), so I guess I’m considered lucky to be able to eat them raw and fresh. For the people that can’t eat raw vegetables, I would still recommend that they get their daily dose of vegetables, even if they have to cook the vegetables. Also, in some countries, the water may not necessarily be sanitary so the people really cannot only rely on water to sustain themselves. Again, they would probably want to boil their water and cook their vegetables thoroughly, which sort of takes a fresh salad out of the equation. I've been to countries where people are afraid of eating vegetables raw because often the restaurants don't wash the vegetables for their salads. In yet another country, fresh vegetables pretty much don't exist because the soil does not support the growing of vegetables at all and thus the prices of vegetables are sky high. Overall, I would say that due to my experiences in other countries, I'm not quite a salad addict (only somewhat of a salad advocate) and I eat vegetables in moderation to mitigate the risk of becoming poisoned from eating only vegetables.

janus : As you know I am getting into the salad fever but, the more I get on it the more it pushes me to vegetables. So, I agree seems vegetables themselves are a better alternative. I also like the idea of lemon water to help cleanse. Never tried spinach so I'll get it on my groceries next week. Though I am curious to find out what the "clean spinach" reference means lol In regards to salad taste, for me it has to have some dressing to it; I just can't eat it plain with veggies alone. At least not yet.

jlove92 : zanderlex had a pretty bad case of infected spinach this summer and made him hate the leaves. Otherwise, try to buy the pre-washed kind (I buy the Popeye brand) as they require less preparation. And don't be afraid to put "good" fat (olive oil) on your veggies. Not only is it necessary to assimilate the nutrients (vitamins A and K), but it makes them taste MUCH better.

janus LOL poor zanderlex

I can see how that would create GreenPhobia. I find that olive oil is just well rounded. Before I only used it for cooking but now it really accentuates a lot of salads and sandwiches I make. Really tasty.

Not trying to go off topic too much but, what's your favorite way of eating spinach?

I should eat salads. It would be better for my lifestyle, but I don't. I don't even get 8 cups of water a day.

Chart : That measure seems to be arbitrary. Don't forget that most veggies you eat contain a huge amount of water, and it counts towards your total.  You should drink as you get thirsty, if you don't want to spend your day peeing.

jlove92 : I try eating my veggies raw, as it's apparently better to save their nutritional value (except tomatoes, which are more efficient once heated). For cooking might I recommend coconut oil. It's pure saturated fat, but the good kind. However be careful as it's solid at room temperature (25 Celsius). Don't break a spoon!

janus : I rarely eat vegetables. I'm a picky eater. I know I get a lot of Vitamin D, though, because my body's almost %25 milk. Just a fun fact.

Chart : yes, it tends to be an acquired taste. It took me a while before I could eat spinach or even olives. Since you seem to like milk, do you also like cheese? Adding it to you veggies (or even cheese crumbles in your salad) would boost the taste and make you eat them.

janus : You got me curious about coconut oil. Will try it.

Chart like he said add things you like to the veggies. Fetta cheese is very good -little crumbles of taste.  I tried it first with grilled chicken and started warming up to the them.

I always drink water in the morning and before going to bed and of course as needed. Try some naturally flavored water

Salads are really healthy and are quite good for you, however, I am not fond of the taste or texture at all.

I do agree that salads are a good diet food and an acquired taste, and my taste for them has gotten better (at least for spinach that is).

Don't get me wrong I enjoy salads in fact it's my favorite food but only because it has the potential to taste decent. Something as plain as a salad could become potentially unhealthy if you top it off with dressing. If I were trying to receive a nutritional value out of salad I would stay away from dressings and try to top it off with bacon, cheese, or crackers. Any one of those are healthier substitutes than dressings of any kind. If you really want something healthy then just eat salad and drink water as a full course meal.

I'm a big fan of using spinach as a base in a salad instead of lettuce. Then throw in carrots, bacon, ham (split the portion of meat between the two), little bit of kale, broccoli, and a few other things depending on the type of salad. I always make them from scratch at home though. I prefer to put it together myself over buying something pre-made as I can build it to my liking. I don't eat salad often though. The only reason we have those things to begin with is my mom is a big fan of salads. I always put ranch or honey mustard on it though since I don't really care about the amount of calories.

Salads can be good or bad. But I wouldn't suggest replacing your water intake with it. I would suggest using more kale, spinach, and other greens instead of plain lettuce. Mix it up a little! More nutrients is what you need! And plenty of water (in the form of water, not vegetable) will make your weight loss go a lot easier.

Thanks for the coconut oil tip! I have some of that in my pantry.

I love salads, I also love Spinach, Asparagus, Brussel Sprouts, etc. I think I should eat salads once in a while since they are pretty healthy to eat. Though it is up to you whether you eat a salad or not, since they don't have as much water as water.........obviously.

Eating salad I think is good but, its how you make them. For me I like to buy certain ingredients to make the salad that I want and most likely to eat a lot. Depending on what everyone have theirs most people can eat salad if they want, to and of course there will be other people out there who don't for one reasons or the other. So its up to you if you want to eat it. As for me its something that I like to eat from time to time.

I mean, I love salads as long as it's pretty plain, but I don't really eat them very often, so I'm not sure. I know they're really good for losing weight since, like you said, they're basically all water, but I'd honestly stick with meat and bread. That diet's hard, I can't even cut out my bread. :/
