gamerforlifeforever2 : I played so little Game Boy games that I unfortunately cannot say anything on the matter

Final Weapon : if you mean with words, I would go for Suteki Da Ne. Otherwise, the FF 6 battle and victory fanfare and the most memorable of the series, and the castle them from Dragon Quest is the best of its king I've heard so far

gamerforlifeforever : I have never played a single game from that console, so I have no opinion at the moment.

Lexatom : Boy did it come a long way from its early beginnings! Games like Sword of Vermilion had such a heavy synth (like the overworld theme) that I felt like pulling off my ears. It was equally terrible in Phantasy Star III (battle themes, final dungeon), although the dungeon music was enjoyable. The drum was also a little too heavy in games like Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 (the problem seemed to come from the Master System; Phantasy Star I always had heavy drums).

Fortunately Genesis redeemed itself in later games. Phantasy Star IV found excellent ways to exploit the heavy synth and created some of the best tracks of the era (organic beat, behind the circuit), and even some of the best for their categories ("major boss" battle, i.e. Laughter). Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (and its Sonic and Knuckles extension) did not have such a heavy drum and even had arrangements that one could not think possible in 1990 (Angel Island, Carnival Night, Flying Battery). The same thing goes for Shining Force II; the drum is not as heavy as in Shining in the Darkness or Shining Force. The arrangements even sound realistic-ish at times like the overworld theme; the composer even reminded us of the heavy synth in the temple of the sealed jewels which was perfect for the situation.

I hope I answered your question

gamerforlifeforever : If you mean Dragon Warrior (both games are different on the NES) then I would go with Dragon Quest I. The music loops much too quickly, it is unimaginative and gets annoying very quickly. However, I have to say that Dragon Quest V (SNES) comes in close second. It features the most boring final boss theme I can think about. Also, despite being on a 16-bit console I found the arrangements to be a little clumsly; the castle music sounded almost like a funeral.

Beastmode64 : Even to this day, it is still Final Fantasy VIII. From the first time I ever played on the launch date (or the Friday after if it was on a weekday) I was completely blown away by the arrangements. It was a stellar improvement from the heavy synth in Final Fantasy VII

What do you think is an underrated Sega Genesis soundtrack? For me it has to be Ecco The Dolphin, some very dark and haunting pieces of music in that game and then there are some nice beautiful tunes,so i was wondering what one you find underrated?

gamerforlifeforever : I've never heard the second one, and Earthbound was a mixed bag. It had a lot of variety, but many of the tracks were kind of childish.

sonicbros : good question. Of the games that I played, I would say that the Dungeons and Dragons game was pretty good for the time. The music always felt appropriate

Cactuar : musically wise, I'm still sold to Final Fantasy VIII
