Of course! In fact, it was Super Mario Bros. 3 that got me hooked to video game music for good. I remember one afternoon in primary school (around 1992 I believe) when we had a free afternoon where people brought NES. I just watched one guy play Mario 3 so I could enjoy the music.

zanderlex : I would say video game. Unless one is constantly watching movies, then video game music is usually heard more often than movie soundtracks. So I do prefer Final Fantasy over Star Wars in that regard.

As with your question, if you mean "song with lyrics" I would say Suteki Da Ne. I was glad that was not translated; Rikki's voice is absolutely fabulous. But if you mean "any track", it would either be Magician Tower (Final Fantasy II) or Celestia Boss Battle (Tales of Eternia).

I have to go with Sonic, at least on the 16-bit consoles. Despite the technical limitations, Sega was able to pull out better and more varied tracks for its games than Mario.

Final Fantasy VI, without hesitation. VII's arrangements were so heavily synthesized that, at times, they sounded straight out of Sega Genesis. It was such a setback from VI, which arrangements almost sounded like real instruments.
