Not important, just backstory:
So, I was playing Pac-Man 256 the other day. I don't really play a lot of mobile games, as I often find them lacking in quality and get annoyed by the ridiculous use of micro transaction, but I gave it a try.

I actually enjoyed it, except for one little thing. A thing that annoyed me so bad, I couldn't play it anymore. When ever you died and didn't have credit to continue, you had to sit through the result screen which interrupted the flow of the game a little bit, as there was animations that had to play. But that was no big deal.

What really annoyed me, was the fact that you where sent back to the title screen, which spent maybe 4-5 seconds on a little intro animation, before you could play again. I found this extremely annoying after a few deaths, and it really ruined the whole game, which I thought was other wise pretty fun.

This gave me an idea for a game though!

RULES

Tell everyone about something that annoys you in a video game, or just video games in general! It could be something really small, or really big! Silly or serious!

But before that, tell us why the thing that annoys the person before you, doesn't annoy you! This doesn't have to be serious at all. Use your fantasy, or sarcasm!

Example:

Person before you:
I like getting sent back to the title screen, I really like the jingle that's played in the intro!
What really annoys me though, is the walking speed in Legend of Zelda! I hate having to roll around everywhere!

What you could respond with:
The walking speed doesn't annoy me, since I like to take in the scenario. Also, I like to roll around. It makes me feel like a tumbleweed!
Do you know what annoys me? The lakitus in Super Mario Bros! It keeps bringing the spinies I've killed back from heaven!

Remember: Explain "why" the things annoys or doesn't annoy you!

All right, I'll be first to complain!
The bosses in Mega Man are way too hard! The way to get to them are really hard, and when I finally find the boss, it kills me right away!

That never really annoys me because I have yet to make it to a boss in a mega man game
I hate that you have to spin-jump in Paper Mario 64 so you can travel at a decent speed.

haha, I know what you mean. I love leveling in an RPG type game. I have no problem staying in an area and building up levels before moving on to another area.

I absolutely hate when I'm trying to get somewhere new and I run into monsters over and over or when I'm just trying to find a save point but have to fight a bunch of battles before getting there.

I also hate dying right before a checkpoint in a game especially when you can see it just a few feet away. I'm more than willing to die on the other side of the checkpoint but I don't want to redo the whole level because I died 2 feet from the checkpoint.

geeogree : Just as bad as dying near a checkpoint is encountering a monster in general near there, even if you are in full health because it just takes up so much extra time when you are intent on doing something. So many times I would be unning through a grass patch in Pokemon and not be bothered during the entire run and the. A Pokemon attacks me right as I hit the last grass tile, or right before I leave a cave.

When your Cable goes out, you play Pokemon.
When you play Pokemon, you use repels.
When you use repels, they run out.
Don't run out of Repels, make sure you brought enough.

When people commentate on YouTube videos all the time, when you're trying to listen to the music or something.
Particularly if said game is DKC2 or DKC3.

Especially if said voice is some random American kid.

What really annoys me about games are things like the new Star Wars Battlefront game. You think you're getting a great, new continuation of a game you loved from childhood and what you get is a half baked concoction that tries to make you spend more money to make it less crap.

Games like that are insulting and insufferable. It just eats me up inside whenever I think about it.

That, and the fact that, apparently nobody wants to play a game with their friends in the same room anymore.

Spidey243 : Why do you think? They probably develop it from just before E3 and rush it, and then bring out pre-release DLC content to scam you even more.

That's one thing that extremely annoys me is all this pre-release access and DLC content. Also game updates all the time, basically so that they can be lazy at developing the game and leave everything until later.

Pre-release access doesn't annoy me, as it's a very smart marketing decision that gives extra incentive for being a fan of the series the game in question is in and will generally not be too big of a deal if you don't end up being a part of it, unless you suddenly love it or long for that particular game. However, I've always been rather patient.

DLC also doesn't annoy me, when done right, anyhow. Day 1 DLC is a big problem, but most DLC is not prepared before the game's release. It's actual expansion to a complete game when done right, and never necessary to be able to fully enjoy the game. DLC in Smash 4 is actually a perfect example of this. While I'm pretty much obligated to obtain DLC of every character and legitimate stage that's released due to being in competitive play, the only thing I would've actually gotten to further my enjoyment of the game is Dreamland 64. Not just because it's one of the legal stages in competition, but because I've always enjoyed that stage.

As I've started to play Mario and Luigi: Dream Team once again, I've begun to realize something that irks me to no end: additional "Hard" modes in games that proceed to amp up difficulty in the game by changing nothing other than damage output by enemies and lack of forgiveness for not saving at every corner. This only amps up tedium and frustration, while rarely giving any real sense of accomplishment. All of the moves themselves by the enemies are completely the same; they just deal far more damage every time you mess up. There's no accomplishment in this; you've already dodged the moves and beaten these enemies in Normal mode, only to have to do the exact same thing, just for a longer time period if you haven't grinded enough.

While the other games in the Mario and Luigi RPG series also take you to your last save point if you die, it was acceptable because that's how it is on the first playthrough. But to throw that in on your second playthrough? No.

Another bad example is, sadly, Metroid Zero Mission, which is a game I otherwise love, as well as other games in the series. Nothing changes other than increased damage output, punishing you for not having completely memorized enemy placement if you want to go fast by dealing damage, especially in early game, that is rather significant to your energy amount, unless you're doing a 100 percent playthrough (which not everyone does). Surprisingly, the game in this series that's gotten it right so far is my least favorite in the series, Other M. It nerfs the otherwise very overpowering dodge mechanic, giving you less invulnerability and forcing you to actually time your dodge and choose where to dodge. It sounds like a minor point, but it forces you to pay more attention to enemy attacks as opposed to continuously tapping a direction on the control pad until you dodge the impending attack. This is actual added difficulty.

(It seems people posted first, before reading the rules. Tsk, tsk.)

Increased damage output and enemy placement doesn't bother me. The game's trying to tell you to be patient, so you could enjoy the game longer.
However, tutorials is what ticks me off the most. Just hand me an instructions guide with the game!

I agree that tutorials can be annoying.  Most of the time it's the same format with different games.  Also, when I want to play a game I've beaten before, I know how to play the game.  I don't want to spend the first level learning something I already know.

One thing that also annoys me is that modern game systems don't play the games of older versions of the system series.  For example xbox 360 doesn't play original xbox games.

Lack of backwards compatibility doesn't bother me anymore, I figure I buy a new system to play new games, so I have little to no need for it.

What annoys me is bosses that come backed with endless numbers of grunts that you have to fight off while battling him/her. Just make the boss harder if they're too easy without their lackeys. I want to fight the boss, NOT the boss and all their little friends. Lol

(Come on guys, let's read the rules. It's a game, not just a discussion thread And an interesting game at that.)

It gives for more interesting tactics, though, doesn't it?

What annoys me is when someone says [Xbox 360 game] was the first [genre inserted here]. Usually a fanboy.

That doesn't annoy me because I know fanboys usually don't know what they are talking about.

I hate quick time events.
They are in every game these days it seems...

If you dunno what those are, its like when you are watching a cut-scene and then randomly... "PRESS X!"

catamandoo : That irritation from interrupting the flow was simply motivation for you to not die.  Don't die and you don't have to sit through it.  I think it's genius.

I get annoyed when games stop every four seconds to go through some sort of tutorial.  I think most people can figure out how to play something by firing a game up and playing through.  If it's a strategy game, one simply reads the instructions and learns through trial by error.  Instead, all these games have to have a few seconds of stoppage to introduce a new element, like we can't handle it ourselves.

It's like that joke that the original Super Mario Brothers had been done for Facebook and the result is thus:

I think tutorials are nice because there's always people who get confused. Some people who have never owned a game system need help understanding what to do. It's also nice because if one game has so many controls you have to use, they show you properly how to use them. Another reason is that if you haven't played a certain game in a while, you get a refresher on how to play. Tutorials are also needed when a game has different features that haven't been used in many games before.

I get annoyed at odd camera angles when you have to attack something, like in the Legend of Zelda series. I swear, sometimes that game has the weirdest camera angles on purpose when you're fighting something so that you have a hard time seeing things correctly.

I hate lagging it drives me crazy. I built a lighthouse in Minecraft and can't use it because the game lags. I hate when games freeze before checkpoint- ah the torture.
