There is always a movie people have unhealthy hype and obsession over and is very popular but the movie doesnt deserve all the fame it gets. Could you list movies you think are overrated?

Hm...Well, I was never a big fan of Frozen, or any of the Cars movies. But yeah.

One of the most overrated movies in my opinion was Avatar. I'm not saying I hated the movie or anything but the hype and love for this movie never made sense to me. I didn't think it was that good.

Frozen definitely got a lot of undeserved hype. Oh my god did it overdose on hype.
Also, Fast and Furious 7. I mean yeah it normally had hype cause people dig those movies but that one dude that left Vin Diesel at the very end who I don't even care about I swear, everyone went gaga over him and the sad-soundtrack song that played during his exit was still on the radio for the next 3-4 months. It's so ridiculous.

I really think Titanic was an overrated movie. When it first came out it was all people could seem to talk about. And how great and amazing it was, how amazing Celine Dion was. Some people are still even arguing about how both Jack and Rose should have been able to fit on the board drifting in the water (because some people don't understand buoyancy). People would treat you like you were crazy if you hadn't seen it, or even crazier if you didn't like it.

This is not to say it was a bad movie. Just WAY overhyped.

Cooliogb :  Ugh, tell me about it. Since there are not that many children close to me anymore, I guess I was lucky not to hear about it every day. I watched it only once and still can not understand the hype. It is just a conventional animated movie (with admittedly beautiful animation) where everyone sings instead of talking. As far as "girl empowerment" goes, I thought Jasmine had it better in Aladdin.

geeogree : Yes, it was overhyped and yes it was terrible. It was just one of those classical propaganda movies about evil humans seeking resources for resources sake and the gentle, nature-loving Natives being destroyed. It made no sense whatsoever - and was a pale copy of Pocahontas.

Everybody seemed to like the Kinsmen so much but I didn't really care for it. That Tom Cruise movie where he keeps dying and coming back was lame too I thought. Oh yeah, and any Harry Potter movie. It's a free country.

I didn't really care for Inside Out. It was creative on one end,but also kind of bland in other areas. Plus it was a bit complicated for a kid's movie. Not that I'm against complex movies, or complex kid's media. But this was just kind of a...strange film. And it was pretty overmarketed and had artificial hype behind it.

Lets see....its what people said. Frozen, Titanic even though I do love the film, avatar I never liked the film from the trailer I never understood the film. I may be wrong about this but I am going to list down guardians of the galaxy I never liked it that much as it was something that just came to play. There are others I forgot the rest maybe some other people will list it down after my post here. :/

I think that's enough for now. Not saying these were BAD movies exactly but they did get a lot more hype than the resulting movie deserved.

I think the Fast and Furious movies have to be "up there" in the most overrated for me. In times right before each and every one of them came out, everyone around me couldn't wait for them to come out. I thought the first one wasn't that bad, but I just didn't see what was so special about those movies. "Hate" is a really strong word that I don't like to say, but I REALLY didn't see what all the Fast and Furious hype was about.  

I think Elf is an overrated movie.  While the humor works, and works quite well, I might say, the overall message can seem to be distorted and false imo.  If not taken too seriously, I feel Elf is a good movie for anyone.

I'm going to just clarify overrated doesn't mean "People like these but I don't", it either means:
1) A movie that was really hyped up and failed to live up to it's name, or
2) A movie in which hundreds of people love it, yet has obvious weakness's that people don't acknowledge.
While yes, it is your opinion, I do feel the "I don't really like it" is a weak argument.

The Big Lebowski. Everyone hails this as one of if not the only cinematic masterpiece. I'll admit it, it's a great movie. But barely great. The writing is decent, and the plot is pretty poor. It has some good jokes, and I'd say a viewing or two would be good, but to praise it as the best thing since Citizen Kane is a real big stretch.

geeogree : Avatar was one of those movies that was amazing in the early days of 3D in the theater. Was really cool. Watching it on DVD though was a letdown after seeing it in all it's 3D glory in the theater.

maguc : I don't think anyone has compared the Big Lebowski to Citizen Kane. If they have, they are crazy. It's a "stoner" type movie in the same ilk as movies like Up in Smoke. It's not supposed to have a great plot. It's just funny. In that regard, it's one of the more well done comedy movies in the past 20 years.

MattyIce : I never understood the love for the Fast and the Furious movies either. I mean I could see the first one or two being popular, but they have made so many now...it's not even funny.

Personally, one movie I never really thought was as funny as people make it out to be was "Napoleon Dynamite" Some of my friends act like this is the most hilarious movie of all time. I just found it to be dumb, which is strange because I usually like these type of comedy movies.

I love the Hobbit and I fall into the crowd of people who went bonkers over it. It was rushed and nowhere near the quality it should/could have been. Yet, it still managed to retain its hype even to the last movie.

Twilight... I'm not bashing this just to be bashing it, I was there on opening night among the masses of screaming fan girls (and their boyfriends). Afterwards, even the viewers said it sucked.

Descendants is a TV movie but I feel it deserves to be called overrated. If not just by the way they shove it out there for merchandise. The movie was ok but was basically a rewrite of High School Musical  (which itself is pretty overrated) but with Disney villains kids. It's very obvious that they didn't even care to cast the right folks for the Villains. I mean really? How did I not catch that Cruella de Vil was African-American (granted she does look a little like she could be Michael Jackson's sister). Or that Jafar was a fat middle-eastern merchant (the guy looks close to the merchant in the beginning of the movie)?

Star Wars Is Overrated!


Star Wars is boring. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is an unnecessary remake. There are so many products that are Star Wars-oriented. I saw a Darth Vader shower head. WTF. I bet if I walk into a store, I will find several items with Star Wars enticed to them.

Jordanv78 : I think Napoleon Dynamite was just over quoted. I feel like Monty Python and the Holy Grail is the same way. I used to love that movie, but now it annoys me when I hear it quoted because it's done way too much.

As for overrated movies, the whole Fast and Furious is WAY overrated. Not only were they terrible movies, after that, every idiot in a Honda civic thinks they can race me. Not saying I have a Ferrari or anything, but news flash, your non-turbo civic isn't gonna win cuz you made it look like a shopping cart with that giant spoiler and made it irritatingly loud...

I have an entire category to add - remakes!

I see remakes being made all the time and getting lots of media hype prior to the release and nearly all of them pale to the original. I'm sure there are some that I could come up with if I tried that I enjoyed the remake as much or more than the original but there aren't likely to be many of those.
