So, before I begin, I just want to say that this is all my opinion. So please don't get mad at me over a disagreement about a mere video game franchise.

Now, yes. I used to like FNAF. But it was really just me trying to fit in.

So, here is why I think it is a pretty awful game franchise.

So first of all, is this really supposed to be scary?

I know this is really polarizing as some people get more easily scared than others. But this was so boring!! All of the games were!

The characters were just boring as all hell, and the supposedly good scary story is one of the worst I have ever had to endure, so were the characters.

Then we come to the gameplay.

Oh...My...God. It sucks.

You wait... and you wait.. you press some buttons... and you wait... press some more buttons, and of course... wait..

 Yeah, it's amazingly awful.


So, yeah that was my opinion. Again don't get mad at me please.

I've never liked Five Nights at Freddy's. I easily get scared, I have anxiety problems, and when my friend forced me to play it, I was both bored and scared-to-death at the same time. I had no idea that was possible! XD

After my first jumpscare, I put it down and told my friend to please find something else to do.

PacmanandMariofan : To each their own, indeed. I hope no one will get mad at me, as many FNAF fans are really passionate - Maybe a bit too passionate.

Don't worry about people getting mad at you about an opinion on FNAF. If they do, it's their problem. Also, it won't get you downrated (I'm talking about both post and TP rating) unless you're too harsh when people argue with you.

Yeah, it's actually really bad.
First one was ok, original concept, but boring.
Second one was eh.
By the third everyone lost interest, I feel. The games were literally the same thing. It's like adding a texture pack to minecraft. It might feel different for the first few minutes, then you realize it's just a re-skin and get bored. Unlike Minecraft though, which is actually fun to begin with, Fnaf is just not good.

The graphics are really bad, especially for this day and age.
Music, there is none/close to none.
Sounds are decent, I guess.
Jumpscares get boring after the first one.
This game isn't scary. True horror games come from the atmosphere, the ambient. This is just loud sounds hoping to be scary.
The complex and amazing story is really simple, dull and boring. It's just scattered about to make it seem so. Kids die, now ghost haunt the place. So complex.
Characters are boring.
Gameplay is...atrocious. Terrible. You have more input and gameplay from those "mini-games" found in DVD's

The fanbase is pretty bad, too. Not all of them, mind you. But they treat it as the holy trifecta of gaming. It's just...no.

So basically to put in a few words: FNAF deserves to die. (don't overreact to that statement)

Yahoo! I'm glad someone made a thread like this! Even though I've never played the game myself, I can say that videos I've seen of it don't appeal to me at all. Playing a game where you're just watching out for animatronic animals doesn't do it for me. I don't get why so many people play those games, and from what I've heard, the series hasn't really changed from the first one. I don't get it and I never will, but that's just my opinion.

gamerforlifeforever2 : It actually started to suck even more with the second one as you have no doors.  But yeah, a part from no doors, it's exactly the same throughout with No/To next to no innovation.

FNAF barely changes up the gameplay from what I have seen which to me isn't always a bad thing if the formula works well (Pokemon,COD,FIFA). Only difference I have seen is the number of animatronics and some added minor annoyances that make it harder and make it feel like I am taking an endurance test. Also the 4th installment is out next month. I thought it was gonna be out in October but nope. The story is very unclear with different theories about it. While I do like listening to them it doesn't mean the story is good.

Meh I kind of agree with you now. The first 2 or maybe even only the first were good but now it seems they are just overdoing it.

As long as those 11 year olds on the school bus keep shouting about it and playing it on Ipads they will keep making them.

The gameplay is actually not all that bad I mean in most games you are wandering around and you can avoid the scares or whatever but in FNAF you are just sitting there making it more original and scarier like the first time you play.

So overall I think they should have just kept it one game.

I have yet to actually try any of these games. I've mainly stayed away from them because they look pretty generic. Games like this that claim to be "scary" almost never actually scare me, so the desire for me to play them is pretty minimal.

I might play them sometime in the distant future, but I'm in no rush to do so.

I liked it at first. It was pretty original and the first one scared you a little, because in the first few nights You aren't expecting anything. Then it just got old. Second one was alright,
But was basically the same thing. The 3rd one was just terrible. It wasn't scary, It was boring and the strategy was extremely simple. Play sound on cam 10, play sound on cam nine, play sound on cam 10, fix any errors you run into and rinse and repeat. :V I didn't finish it all the way through because it was boring, But i'm pretty sure you could win by just doing that.

The 4th one just killed it. It's now taking place in a HOUSE, of all places.. and it just looks downright awful. It looks like a game that a college student would make for their final project. Which is good quality for a college student, but not at all for a game developer. I have no hope for this game. :V

I've never played the game - nor will I ever as it's not my kind - but it does seem to be an all-or-nothing game. Most critics lean towards like, but I recently read one (yours?) that put that game down like I've rarely seen.

janus : Nope not mine. I haven't made one about it, maybe I will. Though I don't think so as I'll have to play it again - which is something I don't want to do.

I think my hatred for fnaf is because of the fanbase that won't shut up about the games. While the games are bad, I would be indifferent to them if there were no annoying fans.

I'll admit that the first game was okay, I mean I wouldn't really consider it a masterpiece but it was an original concept even if the gameplay still just mostly relies on jumpscares and a lot of things like how power is required to shut doors doesn't make sense. But it just goes further downhill with each installment and the gameplay really isn't interesting enough to warrant 4 installments.

I know the story is the main draw for a lot of people but to me personally it mostly looks so vague that it seems like the creator and barely even bothered with writing one and then passed that off as "leaving it up to the player" Letting the player basically write the story does not make for good story writing on the developers part in my opinion.

And calling each game a sequel is a stretch, It's more like a rehash of the same game, and what's more is they don't even get any better, the 2nd game was like a worse version of the 1st game and 3 basically killed it where most of the time you're just left off at the mercy RNG generator on wheter you'll survive or not (unless you take advantage of the instant win glitch...) And the 4th game, while I haven't actually played it looks laughable almost like a bad school project.

Combining that with how short the release cycles is, it seems pretty obvious that the creator is just trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of the fanbase and doesn't actually care much about the franchise.

I know this is a bit like beating a dead horse, but when I saw this thread I couldn't resist sharing my opinion.

I'm seriously hoping all humanity has to endure is the Halloween DLC for 4, and then the horrible, horrible movie that'll be in the works. Maybe with a movie there will require some effort? But Spooky Bootleg Chuckie Cheese the movie might get demands of a sequel...

I thought the first one was alright. I mean, back then it was original. Not exactly anything ground breaking. A few leaps in logic and reasoning, but it wasn't another crappy Unity "horror" game. 2 was okay but just more of the same. 3 was where there was no redeeming factors. Ginger covered the strategy pretty well.
But 4 is just...A nightmare. Not a scary one though. One that just reeked of failure and cash grabs. The gameplay from what I saw looks just...Really clunky and disconnected. The only difference is everything now loads not when you look at the camera, but when each location loads. It's just really disconnected and overall; a mess.

Yeah, I agree the first game was okay, but the big mistake was developing the sequels which have gotten exponentially worse. This better be the final chapter, but we all know it won't be. I remember when everyone thought the third game would be the last.
