RGR Plugin Instructions (Updated 9/6/2022)
The RGR Plugin is no longer supported with modern browsers, so that's why you need to install both the RGR Plugin and the RGR Plugin 2023+ Update.

1. Download and Install the RGR Plugin
If you don't already have it installed, download and install it:
VizzedRgrPlugin-2.41.msi

2. Download and Install the RGR Plugin 2023+ Update
After you've installed the RGR Plugin, download and install this:
RGR Plugin 2023+.msi

Note: The installer might get flagged for not being secure, and that's only because it's new and hasn't been installed on many computers yet, so it might give a warning due to not having any information about it. If a windows security window comes up, just click More Info and from there, you can choose to install it anyway.
Note 2: Do not update the Firefox Portable that comes with this installer, otherwise the games will no longer work since updating it will remove Flash from the RGR Plugin. If you do accidentally update it, just reinstall this.

3. Restart Your Computer
You'll need to restart your computer after you've installed the RGR Plugin and RGR Plugin 2023 Update. If you already had the RGR Plugin installed and just recently installed the RGR Plugin 2023 Update, you'll still need to restart your computer.

That's it! Go and enjoy playing any of the 40,000+ retro games in the Retro Game Room. All of the RGR Plugin related features should work.

If the plugin tells you you're missing VC++ Runtime, you'll need to install that first. You can download it here:

You may need to uninstall previous version if you're having troubles installing this new version.

**Attention Internet Explorer Users, the plugin will not work in Internet Explorer by default, you have to add vizzed.com to the 'Compatibility View'. To do this, click the 'Tools' icon in Internet Explorer (it's right underneath the close 'X' button) and go down to 'Compatibility View Settings'. Add vizzed.com to the list and the plugin should now work fine in IE. NOTE: Some systems, possibly including the Dreamcast, may not run properly or at all in IE and for this reason we recommend using Firefox.

Why do you need to do this? But to do that, right click your desktop, go to display settings and from there you can adjust the colors.

My Computer Doesn't allow the plugin .

What operating system and browser do you have?

Hours after release, version 0.45 is released which gives the plugin server side support of save files and emulator settings

I've having trouble with the save states.

I've tried to use it 3 times now and each time it lags firefox for a really long time. Is this normal? Twice I had to kill firefox and restart it and the third time I left it for longer and it finished "saving" (I assume) but when I hit esc to get out of the menu it lagged again and hasn't started working again.

Not sure if I've done something wrong or what my be the cause of this. Oh, XP and Firefox 3.x

okay, that first game I tried it on was Actraiser and it didn't seem to like that. But I tried it on Super Mario World and it works just fine. Not sure why it would be game specific.... but it is working for me now.... I'll try actraiser again and see if I can figure out what's different besides the game.

I'm assuming you restarted Firefox after installing this? When you create a save state, it does take a while, basically what it's doing is, creating a local copy to your computer and than uploading that copy to the server so unfortunately it's not a quick process.

yeah, I restarted....

and I've just tried Actraiser again and it worked.... the first save just seems to take the longest and after it's done it seems to be quite a bit faster when you save it the next time.


Is there any way to set it up so it only saves locally? That might speed things up. If it's possible. Although, does this save based on IP or user id... cause that would matter more if it saves based on user id.

It saves based on IP. Maybe that could be an option later to make it so it saves only locally but for now this will have to be.

Actually I just though of something, when you went to save, I bet there were a lot of hits on the server at the time so it was just slow because of traffic. Have you noticed the board being slower with all this traffic? Might have to upgrade server again if so.

A feature I might implement is save state sharing. I thought it'd be an interesting idea, basically a user could set their save file to be shared with everyone else. So basically there'd be a pool of save files for each game that you could choose to load from if you wanted to and users could submit descriptions with their save states.

and it probably was just a busy bit of traffic.... it only happened for a little while and now it's working fine.

That could be cool.... but I think with something like that it should be reviewed. I don't want 100 save states for each game. A couple for collecting all the items or passing all the levels (except the last level) or stuff like that... but I don't care about save states after each level or anything. Maybe restrict submission to trusteds only but anyone can access them. The idea does have potential.... for both being good and being abused

As for the shared save states, I don't think a ton of people would share them but I'd let the user submit a description like I said and I could also make it so other users could review the quality of the save state so that'll help figure out which are good.

Another 2 features will be support for taking screenshots that get submitted to the site and also the ability to record your gameplay (which can be used for competitions and such).

Just so much potential with all of this, it's pretty exciting to see what I and others will come up with for ideas for the RGR.

And maybe we could make the bar something easy like having posted 10 times.... I just don't want every random person playing to be able to submit save states. Although I don't actually see myself submitting save states if I weren't an active member of the board. Who knows =/.

I downloaded firefox and it still will not work. I know the plug in downloaded properly. Any advice.

Do you mean to exited the browser and come back, or to some how restart the browser like a comp, because I tried turning firefox off and coming back already.

Ok than you may just have to try and restarting your computer.

When the video recording feature comes out, can you save the videos on your computer and upload them, like on Youtube for a walkthrough or something, because that would be cool to have.

I restarted my comp and it still isn't working. The screen turns own but it just keeps saying "your game is loading". And I waited like, 5 minutes, and nothing.

I have an issue when trying to alter the controls. The in-emulator menu doesn't respond to anything.

Geeogree: Well I downloaded the plug when I learned I needed it, there was a problem at first but I got it to download properly, then I tried it with chrome but I just got a blank screen, so then I downloaded firefox and it gave me a screen saying "your game is loading and it said that for like five min, so I exited firefox and tried again that didn't work so I restarted my comp and it still didn't work. And the games I tried were super Mario world and megaman x.

so, you didn't try installing it again since installing firefox?

try uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling it. Maybe because firefox wasn't installed when you installed the plugin that could explain the problem.

I realize it might be a long shot but I've found that trying something is usually better than doing nothing

Geeogree: I did what you said and that made things worse. Now it says I need to download the plug in, witch i did do, but when I click the button it gives me it says there's no plug in to be found. Any way I'm just gonna stop for now and try again another day. If you or any one else think of any thing please let me know, oh and thank you and Davideo7 for your help

hrm... that is strange. Well, if it says you still need the plugin then maybe try uninstalling it again. It did take me 2 tries to get it installed properly so that the games work.

Try again tomorrow.... hopefully we can get it figured out for you.

Aren't you supposed to be able to play games with a joypad even if you don't have XPadder? 'Cause it won't recognize mine, and I can't use XPadder since I have Windows 7. Please help, I want to play Star Fox with my joystick!

wakka: Mac compatibility is in the future but since that will require a whole new app, it'll be a few months and will cost a ton of extra money. But don't worry, I wont forget about Mac users but I of course was more concerned about Windows users since they make up about 90% of the boards users, figured it'd make sense to release something for them first and than something for Mac users later (plus making the applet for mac will cost way more).

David tried to get this to be as compatible as possible... but he can't be expected to make it work perfectly for absolutely everyone and every program out there. You have to be expected to put in some work to get it working.... or accept the fact that you may not get to play with a controller. there is only so much we can do here to help you.... sometimes things like this just don't work and there isn't anything we can do about it.

By default, ZSNES should support almost all controllers without any additional plugins so did you make sure to go to the menu, config, and input and than enter in your own controls for the controller?

hey davideo great great great work on the snes games,just a bit of feedback i thought id give you ; i can only get the snes games to work on internet explorer and not firefox for some reason,as soon as i click play game (while using ff) it automatically closes my browser,but its fine using ie,oh i did every thing in the thread,restarting my computer etc it just wont have it!!

retroman: Yeah I'm sure there's some reason why it's not working in your Firefox but as long as it's working in IE for you, that we don't need to troubleshoot the situation unless you're really wanting to play using Firefox. And thanks the compliments.

yeah i sorted it now mate,i just uninstalled the download and installed it again then updated my firefox and it works absolutely perfect !!! i just bought a pc controller the other day so it was perfect timing !! the controller works fine as well btw no need for xpadder
