thing1 :  I was just being sarcastic. Back in 2008, those who didn't like Obama were racists - and I still hear that nonsense. However, attacking Sarah Palin wasn't misogyny

janus : No, Obama was a bad choice.  I have my reasons for believing this, as a Veteran of the US Army, but still. I honestly think that the only reasons Obama got in was because he identified as being black, and nobody wanted somebody that came off as a Moneybags kind of guy.
I honestly think that this is why Hillary is running now... she's attempting to take advantage of the US changing, for lack of a better wording.

thing1 : changing? In what way? Bush had African Americans as Secretaries of State and a Hispanic Attorney General (don't know about ALL the secretaries, though).

Besides, to be a president one "needs" to be a moneybag... despite Democrats vilifying them

zanderlex : The race hasn't even officially started yet so we'll have to see. But yes, she DOES seem to be the only Democrat running so far. Elizabeth Warren being out of the race is a big piece out, and unless she rallies with Clinton this might play against Hillary

TheFadedWarrior: As long as he respects the constitution and scales down government, I'm all for it!

Interesting twist: a REPUBLICAN woman is running! Carla (?) Fiorina, former Hewell Packard CEO, will announce her candidacy sometimes next week. While she's a conservative on social issues, at least she has done something productive during her life and has interesting economic ideas (supposing she won't get corrupted... too quickly). When you look at Hillary... has she done ANYTHING productive in the private sector in her life?

While I don't believe she will win the primaries - unless her buddies at HP can "print" her some help - I nevertheless agree with some commentators in that she might be considered for Vice President. With her on the ticket, I might have considered voting GOP (but I only have a green card). She is an intelligent woman who can do good for this country.

Meanwhile, obsolete warhawk John Bolton keeps croaking around in order to have his war drum rolling so people don't forget about his existence. Unless something major (like Iran actually developing the atomic bomb it's been on the verge of completion for about as long as I've been alive) then
domestic policies will be much more important.

Speaking of which, the Democrats (well, Clinton really) have rallied the usual points that miss the big picture: Citizens United, income inequality and other similar subjects. The GOP also promises to repel Obamacare but fail to present an alternative plan; they even want to keep the actuarially insane no-rejection policy.

Since I am not American, I have no say in this but I actually morally supported Hilary over Obama when the democrats were last time deciding who should run for president. I am happy of the outcome. Obama is the best president you have had in almost a century. Now I'm pretty much interested to see how Hillary does explaining all that stuff about selling nuclear materials and land to the Russians and stuff. Also excited to see who will be the Republican candidate this time. What I read it could be basically anyone.

Brigand : I would be curious to know your definition of "best".

Also are the claims substantiated? A book recently came out making the allegations but are they true? Conservatives were quick at jumping on the news, but even though I hate her guts I won't find her guilty before she goes "to trial."

Brigand : OK I can give you the lack of "religious nutness," which was a good change from the previous president. However his handling of the economy was absolutely abysmal; participation rates are still at a 35-year low.

As I understood, your previous presidents economical politics left damage that would take a generation to fix no matter who would be in charge.

Brigand : Yes, presidents with an S. Clinton was the main cause behind the housing bubble, and Bush fired the adviser that warned him about it.

However it wouldn't take a generation to fix. The 1920 Depression, which started more severely than the one in 1929, was over in 2 years because politicians "did nothing".

If anything, Obama's 8-year mess IS going to take a while to repair. But I'm not holding my breath over his successor's ability to do it...

During Clinton era you had less national debt than ever but dear old  W. pretty much sold your whole country to the multinational corporations but... Blame it on Obama, wont you. And now it is not the "grapes of wrath" era, the whole economy works on very different set of rules.

Brigand : Nope, incentives still matter. I admit not being familiar with the novel, but the 1930 decade was completely wasted because of failed government policies, not "unbridled" capitalism, which never existed anyway.

Also, Clinton ended up his mandate at the height of the dotcom bubble, which was fueled by the Fed. He also sold the country to Mae and Mac when he forced them to create subprime loans by wanting to increase home ownership so much.
