So we all know that Sony is currently dominating (and I mean dominating) the console market with the PS4, but just as Sony is crushing the console competition, Nintendo is crushing the handheld competition. Meaning Sony is making history in one market while being manhandled in another.

It would seem that nobody wants a Vita, but I can't see why. Oh sure, it sells a few thousand every week, but the 3ds is selling upwards of thirty thousand a week. And while the 3ds has some good looking titles, I honestly feel that the Vita has some equally good (and often much better) titles.
Examples:
-Pix The Cat
-Freedom Wars
-Helldivers
-1001 Spikes
-Rayman Legends
-Tearaway
-Rayman Origins
-Spelunky
-LittleBigPlanet PS Vita
and I could list more.

So with this many really good games (some exclusives, some not), and the ability to remote play and crossbuy/crossplay with the top selling console of this generation, why do so many people keep overlooking the system? All I can figure is that most people are buying handhelds for their kids and so assume Nintendo is the way to go because we grew up with the Gameboy. Who knows.

Anyway, are any of my fellow Vizzed...ers... proud owners of a Vita, or do any of you at least plan to be? I know I can't wait to get one myself. I fully expect to see this little system restore my interest in handhelds to at least some reasonable degree even though I'll always be a console gamer mostly.

I'd like to be, and (hopefully) will be an owner of a Vita.
I always liked the PSP, like really liked, so getting a Vita was always something that was there for me ever since it came out.

Always liked the shape of it, feels very comfortable around my hands, and the games seem to be really good so far.

It also comes with some really amazing-looking features, so that's always a plus.

Eirinn : There's really only a few games I would get for the Vita would be for the hatsune miku games and maybe Muramasa: The Demon Blade

And maybe, just maybe the rayman games. Otherwise I'm really not interested.

Unless the release more blazblue games for it, of course.

Tbh, the vita just seems to me as a handheld which had cool features but not a lot of them were executed. such as that whole playing games irl through the vita or whatever. Whatever happened to that?

Eirinn : What's an Ecample?

Of course I have one, I had one for almost 2 years now and love it though I dont have any of those games.

I dont really play the games I have that often anymore, some of my games I havent played in months, some only have been played for an hour, but I generally use it now for movies and TV stuff I have saved.

alexanyways : I think this thread was meant for you.

maguc : Sweet. I really hope the Vita gets some more notice, not so much for Sony's sake (the PS4 is carrying them in that department) as for the system itself. I hate to see such a deserving system go to waste for no apparent reason.

yoshirulez! : Well knowing your game interests I can understand, but maybe you should look deeper into their library. It actually has a lot more games than even I thought until recently.

And can you describe the feature you mentioned? I'm not familiar with it, but given my close watch on Sony gaming I probably know of it, but don't understand the description you gave. Remote Play is all that comes to mind given your current description. And maybe PlayStation Now.

zanderlex : Sorry about that, this phone is hard to type from. I promise I proof read that post, not sure how I missed that. xD

So what games would you personally recommend then? I'm building a bit of a list of must-buy games when I get one.

Eirinn : Let's say you're playing an FPS on the Vita

And lets say someone else is playing the same FPS on a Vita..

And lets also say you're outside in the woods..

You could use the Vita to shoot the other person, and you also could hide behind the foilage.

Is that a better explanation :s

I'm not huge on handheld consoles, but if I would have more money
to spare, then I would most likely look into getting a handheld console,
so I would probably pick up the Vita as it seems to have quite a bit of games
that interest me.
For some reason I always had the feeling that Vita wasn't really that successful,
because people felt like it didn't have enough games, or enough good games
to be worth buying.
If I get the Vita my first game purchases would be the Persona 4 game and the
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, but I would really have to look more into it to find
the hidden gems that would really bring out the magic in Vita.

yoshirulez! : So basically like allowing you to integrate your real surroundings into a game? If so, I've heard of that in one mobile game, but never heard of it in relation to the Vita. I'll definitely look into it though.

DSGjr : Yeah, the old classic PSX/PS2 compilations and remakes are a big draw for me personally. You'd think they would be for a lot of nostalgic Sony gamers as well. The old greats available on the go? Yeah, I could live with that. lol

dragonlord2469 : Freedom Wars is one that I've had my eye on for a while. You think it would be a good early purchase title then?

I was planning to get a Vita primarily because I'd like to play the Rebirth 1 and 2 for Hyperdimension Neptunia (since I'm an avid fan of the franchise), second because my first ever Sony console was PSP and I love how I can lie down while playing games lol. HOWEVER, Neptunia's developers suddenly released their Rebirth1 on PC with their other games to follow as PC ports, so that means I'd probably not buy a Vita any time soon since I went ahead and bought Rebirth1 on Steam. Unless of course Vita releases some great line ups of "Vita exclusives". If they're just going to do ports or give access to older games from Sony's past consoles, then I'd rather stick with my PC and Ps3, and yes PSP.

I have a Vita (as you know). The best game I have for it (and one of the more interesting games I have played in a very long time) is Tearaway. It is cute, and creative but way too easy. The game is super relaxing so I don't even really knock it for being so easy. The Vita is a really neat handheld but Sony needs to do something with it. Sony dropped the ball just like they did with the psp (worse than they did with the psp). There is a lack of games for it but its better than the 3DS, New 3DS, the New New super New 3DS, and any other pos cash grab Nintendo is pushing theses days.

I've thought about buying a Vita several times, but I still haven't because I feel like there aren't a lot of good titles to choose from besides remakes like Persona 4 Golden and Final Fantasy X Remastered. If there were more Vita titles out there that would interest me, I'd buy the Vita. But since there aren't, I'm gonna stick with my 3ds and Wii U.

Juliet : Yeah, the Vita does need some more exclusives, but I think Sony would have to make those games themselves. Most developers are afraid to release exclusively on the Vita since it costs them about eighty or ninety percent of the handheld market. Besides, with the PS3/PS4 - Vita pairing features, it's almost silly not to release on the Sony Consoles at the same time as the Vita. Honestly I think Sony might shy away from the idea as well.

GenesisJunkie : Yeah, our discussion about Tearaway is what prompted me to make this thread. lol It also got me to check Metacritic for a list of top Vita games. You might be interested in it. And Tearaway was on that list too.

As for the "new new super new 3ds" bit...I like Nintendo, but that was just gold. xD Post of the day right there. lol

As for Sony dropping the ball, I think they definitely could focus more on the Vita. As Juliet said, they need more exclusives. They have a really good system on their hands, but they need more incentive to make people want it. Sadly as Nintendo is finding out, even good exclusives aren't enough to recover entirely. All Sony can do is make the remainder of this handheld generation as comfortable as possible and work on doing better next time.

daffy_duck1 : So do you feel that the 3ds is actually a better system, or just has more good games?

Eirinn : you might not like my answer, but it's no. Ps just does not have a lot of things that interest me. You may know what i like, but none of those that you listed will interest me in the vita, though I just heard the ps3 plays ps2, now that might be a worthy investment after all!

Eirinn : The Vita might just be Sony's last handheld, and its not doing well but that is no reason to forget about it (the fans and Sony). It does have games but like its console big brother and the Xbone, exclusives are becoming a thing of the past. Its not profitable anymore to have exclusives from a 3rd party view. I would like Sony to give the Vita a second chance but I am not holding my breath. I will get the games for it that look good and not worry too much about it. Let Nintendo milk a dead/dying handheld market, good on em, but i'm not buying in (or at least while the consoles are new).
Eirinn : The Vita might just be Sony's last handheld, and its not doing well but that is no reason to forget about it (the fans and Sony). no I do prefer Vita over the 3DS I don't think I explained myself very well but there is definitely a lack of titles compared to the 3DS
but like so many things these days they don't seem to exploit the potential of any gaming consoles until the near the end of their lifespan

GenesisJunkie : Yeah, I'm halfway expecting the Vita to be their last handheld, but I really hope it isn't. They've shown that they know how to make a good handheld and give it great features, now they just have to figure out how to get it to catch on. I do think a more solid lineup would go a long way though.

And really the 3ds is selling great (not sure why Nintendo thinks it needs a boost), but the Vita is just slowly limping along. Maybe because most adults want a console and handhelds are good for kids because of not needing to share the television with their parents. Indeed kids seem to make up most of Nintendo's fanbase anymore, and adults make up much of Sony's game fanbase. Maybe that's the issue with the Vita?

daffy_duck1 : Oh okay. Yeah, the Vita needs a stronger lineup, but the good games that it has are some of the better looking ones. Hopefully they can get more good ones so it'll be less hit and miss. I really thought remote play would sell more Vita's than it did though.

Eirinn : Nintendo owns the young demographic when it comes to handhelds mainly in the hands of Pokemon. The problem with handhelds are really, they have become something of an obsolete oddity. Most adults have moved away from a dedicated handheld video game system because of cell phones and the stigma of a grown man (or woman) playing a video game is seen as childish (a topic for another day). You can play your endless runners or your puzzle games on your phone and everyone else still accepts you because they do it too. They don't see it as a video game (because it more or less isn't). The Vita doesn't really know what it is and what it wants  to be, where the 3DS (and the rest of its revisions and new consoles) know exactly what it is and what its gonna do, for better or worse. Nintendo's offering has a place in the market, where Sony's may be somewhere in a grey area. That could be a factor behind the slow sales of the Vita but I don't think it makes up for the bulk of disinterest in the console. Lack of games, poor advertisement, missing market, who really knows for sure but all of those things isn't helping the Vita.
