One of the biggest debates I've seen online is Pc gaming Vs Console gaming. I know some people on vizzed and outside of it don't want to make the full switch to pc gaming so I'm hoping this can change some of their minds. I'm going to go over some reasons why you should choose pc over console. Both have their own pros and cons so I'm going to try not to be biased to one or the other. Feel free to post your thoughts on this thread bellow .

TL; DR Computers can do more than run games, games are cheaper, play on the go or on the couch, and have more customization. But they require you to buy a computer which is more expensive than a console and install steam and the games. You also need gift cards or credit cards which can be a problem for some people since it seems more expensive that way.

Consoles are simpler, but lack all of the pros from computers.

Pros (PC)
First off, computers can do more than play games. You can browse the web, use programs and apps, and watch videos with ease. You can also do homework, projects, and professional work on them while being able to transfer files and use a physical keyboard instead of a virtual one. The vast majorities of students and adults will benefit from having a computer in their home. Why not invest some more money into your computer and make it a gaming computer?

Another reason why you should switch to pc gaming is steam. Steam, which most of you know, is the PSN and Xboxlive for PC. It serves as a social network and store for games. It has 4 huge sales each year, around 100 games on sale daily, and FREE games. If you go to gamestop every new game is about $60, there are rarely sales (until the games are replaced by newer ones), and you need to pay for memberships. I have $216 worth of games on my wishlist and during the winter sale all of them should be in the daily or flash sale. Whenever a game is in one of those sales their prices will be at their lowest. For example Gauntlet was $20 normally and last Thanksgiving sale it was in a daily deal for $10 (50% off). If all of the games I want have a flash sale then the price for them all will be about $109.

But wait there's more! Steam users from other countries like Russia and Indonesia get games for about half what americans get them for. Steam has a feature where you can buy and trade games for items or other games. There are tons of places where steam traders meet and everyone can get fair deals. I got Mirror's edge a $20 game from a trader for only $2.50! Thats over 75% off a single game!

Not to mention there are websites where you can buy bundles of around 8 games for one low price. I've seen bundles for $10 that save you $140!

PC's have the capability for much better graphics and modding capabilities. If you invest into a better computer or better parts then you can have over 60 FPS (which consoles are locked at) or even play in 4k. 4k is a resolution that is four times greater than 1080p, which most people are used to. Here is a 30 and 60 fps comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXGqD55lUXU
You can also mod computer games, but not console games. Two good examples of this are skyrim and minecraft. Both have hundreds of public mods made. Players have pretty much created entirely new games with modding powers. Skyrim even has a tool for pc to make your own mods. This isn't possible on consoles, and I dont expect it to be without turning consoles into normal computers.

PC's can give you a console feeling. You can buy a pc controller, like a logitech f710 or wired xbox 360 controller, and connect it to your pc to play with a controller instead of a mouse. You can also use an HDMI cable to connect your pc to your tv. This means you can sit on the couch and play just like with a console.
You can also take your games with you to a friend's house or on a trip if you're connected to wifi or 4g. The Nvidia shield (might make a thread about this) lets you do this. It comes as a controller with a connected screen (similar to a 3ds) or as an android tablet with a controller. If you have a supported Nvidia graphics card then the nvidia shield will be compatible with your computer. It streams the game from a desktop to the shield. The shield can tell the computer what to do like a controller can. You can be miles away from home and enjoy 1080p gaming.

Cons (PC) You either need to build a good computer or buy a beefy one from a store (normally costs more) Also if you have a problem with the computer you'll need to have a warranty if you dont want to buy some parts twice.
Also if you buy a low end computer now you'll need to buy another one soon if you want to play modern games from the next year. A good motto is buy nice or buy twice.

Pros (Console)Simpler to start playing. No setup and no long downloads if you buy games from a store. You also have a guaranteed warranty for the console. You wont need to worry about upgrading until the next generation of console comes out.

Cons (Console)No customization, no mod support, only for games and apps, and few sales.

You can actually get a high end PC cheaper than consoles if you know where to look. My PC is more powerful than a PS4, despite this it costs less.

I was a Nintendo gamer until recently. Still am. It's just with all those sweet, sweet Steam sales and Humble Bundles...I feel spoiled, even though I barely have any money to buy games with. Despite my lack of money, I've managed to get a few hundred games over about 2 years. If I really got into trading, I possibly could have done a lot better. I dunno. But I am satisfied with what I have. I could spend the rest of my life just playing the games I have on Steam right now and be more than happy. I hope to get more games someday, but for now, I'm taking a break from trading/buying unless something "must-have" comes around.

I don't even have a very nice PC. It's a basic HP Pavilion from about 2 years ago. I can still run some higher-end AAA games (like Skyrim) on low settings (although it still might lag)...but use it mostly for indie games that don't require too much from the PC. Some games that look nice also run quite nicely on my PC (such as FF XIII and Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3: Full Burst). But those are generally the exceptions. I would upgrade the PC we have if I had the money...but it's also a family PC, and they probably wouldn't approve of it. I want to get my own someday.

I agree to some extent. Though Nintendo games don't make it on steam, and so I've found that the best gaming solution for me is have a powerful PC and Nintendo Consoles; that way you get everything your heart desires.

Consoles are more expensive than a well rounded pc. Frankly a console is outdated the mment it comes out.
There are pros. You dont need to be techy, they are easy to use, made with games in mind, the parts (should) be designed to work well together, minimising hardware failure risk.

But PC's are far superior. More for your money in both hardware and games (50-70% cheaper for games).
Games can be modded into entirely new games, hence more playtime.
The community actively fixes the bugs that the developers ignore.
No pay for online (mostly).
If you build your own pc, you dont have to cut costs for a cheap unit. You can be sure the system wont overheat, you can ensure that the case is solid.
PC has a tonne of exclusives, as well as most xbox exclusives.
Its damn near impossible to play startegy games on console (such as the total war series).

Since getting a pc, I have not paid more than 50% of a console games price for any title. The savings are huge.

I've never known a lot about games or been a heavy gamers, but if I had to choose a gaming conduit, it'd have to be my laptop. Most of the games I like are computer based anyways (tycoon and exploration games).  I know that 'my type' of games are on other consoles, but I wouldn't know where to begin, and many of them have elements I won't have anything to do with.  Besides that, I will NEVER get used to modern controllers. I just don't have the hand-eye coordination for them.

From what I DO know, however, the right computer can handle more anyways.  Having a computer and vizzed is like having almost every console in existence anyways, right?    If I wanted to play pokemon, for example, I don't need a gameboy or 3DS or what have you.... I just need my laptop. woohoo!

I'm more of a PC person, because of it's bang for buck and almost limitless customization. However, the main issue I have when it comes to PC gaming is trying to host any type of multiplayer through LAN or the internet. In most cases, you have to port-forward your router, make an exception to the firewall, and there could still be something preventing it from working (or that I suck at that sort of stuff). Consoles are designed specifically for gaming and user-friendliness, which is a very admirable trait, but you often pay a lot more for less than perfect performance.

But, another huge plus for the PC gaming world is the availability of low cost peripherals. People throw around slightly old (but working) PC parts like confetti. Almost all of the parts in my computer are from my friends giving me their previous generation hardware for little to no cost. Accessories are some of the most expensive aspects of console gaming, because the good stuff is only coming from a select few companies.

Pros:
PC: Can easily fit into your budget, and slightly older parts are very easy to come by in most cases.
Consoles: Extremely easy to use and get working, often a good library of games.

Cons:
PC: Hosting multiplayer games requires a PhD in advanced computer science. They can take up more room in some cases.
Consoles: More expensive, yet with sub par performance when compared to a PC of the same cost.

Okay, I guess that isn't ALL I have to say on the topic. I have a Dell Latitude e6400 laptop (made in 2008), and I can run games such as Minecraft, TF2, and Garry's Mod with ease. I don't know if that's very good, but whatever. I don't have much money to get a better computer. I got this thing for a really good deal though, I think. It was brand new, and came with 100 free gamehouse games and a battery extender. Is that a good deal do you guys think? Anyways, back on topic.

Pros and cons for PC.
Pros: 1. HUGE variety of games
          2. You don't have to buy online multiplayer (usually)
          3. Many free games
          4. Portable (If you use a laptop)
          5. Easier to mod games
          6. Games are a lot cheaper
          7. No risk of losing or destroying games (like scratching the disk)
          8. Also comes with a wonderful thing called "The Internet"
          9. Games not limited to a certain console
          10. Emulated games.

Cons:
1: Very hard to set up multiplayer servers
2: you have to have a high-end computer to run more modern games
          3. Chance of getting account hacked into
          4. Super new games come out on console first
          5. Harder to download games

      Console pros and cons
Pros:
          1. Games are easy to start up.
          2. Easy to join multiplayer servers.
          3. High Quality games
          4. Better controller, screen, and sound (usually)
          5. Newest games come out on console
          6. Nintendo. That's all I have to say.
          7.  Consoles can be less expensive
8: Certain benefits for consoles sometimes

Cons:
1: Many games limited to 1 console
2: Usually have to pay for online multiplayer
          3. Games are much more expensive

Altogether, I think pc is better than consoles, though.

          4. Better controller, screen, and sound (usually)
          5. Newest games come out on console
          6. Nintendo. That's all I have to say.
          7.  Consoles can be less expensive
8: Certain benefits for consoles sometimes

Cons:
1: Many games limited to 1 console
2: Usually have to pay for online multiplayer
          3. Games are much more expensive

Altogether, I think pc is better than consoles, though.

Honestly, a PC is better than a console. The games are much cheaper and instead of buying a whole new PC you can upgrade a PC for less money(unless the motherboard doesn't support of course). Also, the Internet and emulation is great to have.

I can sum up PC gaming superiority in one word: Steam. You have more games than you have ever/ will ever hear of. This makes it cool, because it's all there, but that's not it, you also have sales. PC gaming has many Pros, which consoles are getting closer to, I'll list a few. Better Graphics, Faster Frame rates, and portability. (The possibility to move.) Those are the reasons that PC gaming is better for most... I like that I don't have to buy a more expensive console, and then super expensive games, just to play a game, I can use the computer I already have!

I'm going to stay in the middle on this one. While I have an amazing PC (in my opinion, specs here if interested ), I also like consoles. While I only have the PS3 and the Wii right now as consoles, I still think they are very fun to play on and equal a PC.

Okay, I'll start with PC pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Can last a while longer than a console if you bought a good one.
2. Steam let's you buy Xbox exclusive games and PS3 exclusive games, so you have both right there.
3. More to do than on a console.
4. Can play on it like it is a console if you hook it up to your TV and use a wired Xbox controller or any controller.
5. There are more than just Xbox and PS3 games, you literally have games that other people make. If you go on certain websites, you can play many more games for free. Vizzed is a great example of this .
6. If you know what you are doing, you can mod games a lot easier than if you were to mod an Xbox game or PS3 game.
7. Most games are already multi-player and don't require you to buy a pass once you buy them (Xbox ).
8. Minecraft. It's way better on PC and you know it. More is added and it seems that the consoles will never catch up.
9. There are some pretty amazing PC specific games out there.

Cons:
1. They require you to know quite a bit about PCs, at least if you want a good one.
2. Games released for consoles and PC will usually be on consoles before PC.
3. Some games require you to make servers so you and your friends to join, and this can be pretty confusing.
4. There won't be as many people to play against on multi-player because most people will either be playing on Xbox or PS3.
5. Nintendo games aren't released on PC (that doesn't mean you can't find websites like Vizzed ).
5. Last, but not least, is money. If you want a really fast PC, it's going to cost you. Mine costed me $600, but it's retail price would be around $750.

Console pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Games will come out on consoles before PC usually.
2. More people to play against.
3. All you have to do is buy it at the store, nothing complicated like building it (you can buy PCs at the store, but if you want a good PC, then you'll probably have to order it online).
4. Consoles have an easy to understand OS, and you can go straight to games from turn on.
5. Consoles are usually less expensive.

Cons:
1. There are console specific games (Halo and The Last of Us to name a couple)
2. Games are more expensive
3. For Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PS4 you have to pay for a membership to play online (the reason I got myself a PS3 ).
4. It can't do as much a PC can.
5. Just because I put this on PC pros, Minecraft is pretty bad on consoles. It's way harder to build things, you can't join servers other than if your friends are hosting them, and they are so far behind on updates.

Overall, I say they're both a good thing to have. I have to admit, I mostly use PC for single player games, but that's usually one of the most important parts of a game anyway. Multi-player is usually something that is on the side, available for you to have fun, but it doesn't give you the same feeling as when you're playing on story mode. I do enjoy playing PC specific games on multi-player. Consoles are what I use mainly for multi-player except Nintendo games for obvious reasons. Maybe the PC is better than consoles, but I still am going to say both are a good thing to have. Peace .

I forgot to mention another Pro to PC gaming, the retail prices of games are much cheaper than the Store Xbox Prices, but one thing is that PCs don't get console exclusives... Halo, Infamous Second Son, or whatever that one is... And other games like those.

I'm going to have to agree with almost everyone on this thread. PC gaming is the way to go.

Don't get me wrong; I own several game systems and I love my PS3, but if I can, I usually get the game on my PC. Why? Well, to sum it up-MODDING. Yes, I'm a modder. I got addicted to modding games at a young age, lol.

I mean, c'mon. Who doesn't want to have the all-naked-all-the-time Dragons Age Origins Mod? Huh? HUH? (Well, ok, not me honestly, XD The biggest mod i used on that game was the Winter Forge so I could make a whole outfit of armor called "Massive Pectorals" and "Many Thews" with super-sweet bonuses, mmm. And the pink legwarmers of speed and the tie-tack of magic resistance, yah!)

With the addition of a game controller, there really isn't any great advantage to buying a system. You can get emulators for almost every system out there, so why bother?

Sorry, I'm not going to do the pros and cons thing.
