Rise of the Tomb Raider is Xbox One Exclusive

Today at their Gamescom 2014 conference, Microsoft has announced that the upcoming sequel to Tomb Raider 2013, Rise of the Tomb Raider, will be An exclusive game for their Xbox One console.

What does this mean for the series? Why did Square Enix go down the road of exclusivity again, and why Microsoft?

We're gonna have to find out.

I really do not like when a formerly multiplat game goes exclusive, in the cases of Bayonetta 2 or Sonic the Hedgehog, but if you're a Tomb Raider fan like me, you're gonna have this as a reason to buy an Xbox One.

Personally, I got Tomb Raider 2013 for free on PS3, and it was an amazing game, it was a ton of fun to play through. And then I borrowed my friends copy of the Definitive Edition on PS4, and I swear it was one of the most refined and beautiful looking games I've ever played. Hand in hand with everything else that made the game great, it was made just so much more on the next gen consoles, and that's what hyped me up so much for Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4.

Now we're gonna have to look elsewhere, or to Uncharted 4: A Thief's End for that experience on the Sony console any time soon.

Update: Today Microsoft has clarified that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a timed exclusive, meaning it'll be on Xbox before any other console, and it will still come out on other consoles.
